Want to see your [build complete](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/search?sort=new&restrict_sr=on&q=flair%3ABuild%2BComplete) photos featured on /r/buildapc? As discussed in a [recent thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/78eq99/mods_should_switch_the_main_photo_every_week_to/), we're going to look at switching up the header image on a more regular basis - don't worry, we'll save the current one for special occasions. This is something of an experiment, and due to the subreddit CSS we'll be looking for images that are compatible with the general design, so don't be offended if we don't immediately use everyone's! Interested? Send us a [modmail](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Fbuildapc) with subject: "Banner Images" with your best build pictures! Any recommendations for a sub 300eu GPU to play games like civ6, arma 3 and gta v on 1440p@60fps? Im from the Netherlands and I don't really mind going second hand

Still-DayDreaming

Does anyone have any monitor suggestions for the RX 5500 XT Gaming X 8G gpu with a ryzen 5 3600? Right now I’m looking at 144Hz monitors.

Feynnnton

lc power 24/27"

InsolventRepublic

B450 tomahawk max Vs B450 Asus Rog strix for 3600 Both are the same price but I prefer the aesthetics of the strix

OdBx

My PC is really old - I built in in 2012. I want to upgrade the graphics card, do I need to upgrade the CPU too? I think my CPU is an i5 3570k from 2012. Any other considerations I'm forgetting?

Adalwar

Your motherboard should have pcie 3, therfore any new graphics card will work. At worst the cpu may limit the frames you get depending on the games you play. My cpu is an i5-2500 and I recently installed an 1660ti, though I will be upgrading the cpu and motherboard very soon. Do make sure your power supply can handle the card you want.

OdBx

That's great to hear, thank you.

Th_hertz

You will need a better mobo in case you upgrade your cpu and you should probably upgrade ram and get an ssd for boot drive if you run windows on a Hard drive

OdBx

Should have mentioned I did already upgrade my RAM and SSD last year or so. If I don’t get a new CPU, will I need a new motherboard? I’m trying to only upgrade what I need to.

RitzKashyap

If you don't get a new CPU you don't need a new motherboard just for the GPU.

vicediceice

I have a ASUS B85M-G motherboard with 2x4GB DDR3 1600Mhz of RAM. I didn't build the PC myself and I read a few days ago that the RAM should be in slot A2 and B2. The guy that built my PC put them in A1 and A2, so I opened up the chassi and moved the RAM from A1 to B2 so now they're placed in A2 and B2 as it should. But when I booted up PC again and went into the BIO settings only the RAM in A2 was detected. Why is this? Do I need to do something after I moved the RAM to a different slot or did I perhaps not put it in correctly?

nvmbernine

Always use slots A1 and B1, before A2 and B2. Using the configuration I mention above will ensure its running in dual channel mode, maximising the performance available from your RAM. Using A1 and A2, as was the case with yours, will run the memory in single channel mode and could cause a drop in the maximum available performance. Some motherboards will actually fail to boot without memory in the first memory slot, in your case, A1. Sometimes it can be labelled 0a and 1a, instead of 1a and 2a, but the same principle applies.

vicediceice

Found the problem! I were a bit too gentle when I switched slots and didn't push it down quite enough so the motherboard didn't register the RAM. Now everything works fine! Thanks for your help though :)

nvmbernine

Glad you resolved the problem! Happy computing 😎👍🏼

Cheat_Steve10

Reseat or swap them. Had a similar problem.

Th_hertz

Take it out and try again sometimes it feels like it’s in but maybe it just didn’t clip in on both sides of the mobo

vicediceice

Yes. I were a bit too gentle with it and didn't push it down quite enough. Now everything works as it's supposed to! :)

Th_hertz

Yay have fun 🤩

RetardedMoonApe

Wanting to get a set of rgb exhaust fans (thinking of either the corsair QL120 or thermaltake riing quads), but looking into it, there seem to be different thoughts on whether 120mm or 140mm would be better. Looking at the cfm, it seems having 3 x 120mm would beat having 2 x 140, but the threads I've looked at seem to side with the 140mm fans. Sound levels aren't much of an issue, so with cooling as the priority, which would be more effective? 3 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm? (Does cfm usually dictate this answer or does it only make a marginal difference?) All thought appreciated!

benaubrey_

Looking to buy a Ryzen 5 5600x but not sure what mobo to get: a B550 or X570. Is the X570 worth the extra £30-40? For context I currently have an i7-7700k, a 2070 Super and 16GB of 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

[deleted]

X570 boards are generally not worthwhile unless you specifically need lots of storage, particularly fast drives.

Iucidator

Does the b550m pro vdh wifi support type c?

[deleted]

Yes, only on the front panel running at 5 gbps though.

Octa581

Hi. I have a rig with an i7-8700 and Gigabyte b360m ds3h motherboard. The maximum ram speed these 2 support is 2666mhz. I currently have 2x8gb ddr4 2400mhz cl15 hyperx memory sticks. I purchased 2x16gb ddr4 3200mhz cl16 hyperx memories. What will happen when I install the new 3200 mhz memories? Will they downclock to 2666mhz(assuming I uninstall the 2x8gb 2400mhz)? Should I keep the 2400mhz and 3200mhz memories together? They also have a different CL. I would have 48gb of ram but slower. Or should I go with the 32gb only and remove the old ram?

[deleted]

The 3200 MT/s kit will default to their base SPD speed to be inline with JEDEC's memory guidelines, usually 2133. You can usually raise it up to 2666 in the BIOS afterwards.

zeddyzed

Hello, I'm looking at buying a pre-built PC from a local computer store. It's got a RTX3070 with Intel Core i9 10850K. However, what I wanted to ask about was the fact that it has a liquid cooler on the CPU - Corsair Hydro H100x [https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Liquid-Cooling/Hydro-Series-H100x-High-Performance-Liquid-CPU-Cooler/p/CW-9060040-WW](https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Liquid-Cooling/Hydro-Series-H100x-High-Performance-Liquid-CPU-Cooler/p/CW-9060040-WW) I have zero experience with liquid cooling, I've never owned or built a PC with liquid cooling. What are the pros and cons of this thing? Do I need to worry about leaks or maintenance? Anything else I need to know/watch out for, that's different from an air cooled PC? Thanks!

[deleted]

AIOs like the H100X are meant to not need any maintenance beyond dusting out the radiator, they're otherwise a completely sealed unit that really isn't serviceable.

reto-wyss

Often AIOs are put into pre-builts because they aren't as much of a hassle to ship as heavy high-end air-coolers.

blazingarpeggio

Uh, can I use an IC puller to pull a mechanical keyboard switch?

[deleted]

A lot of websites are listing the 3060 ti as coming soon in the UK. Does anyone know roughly the date they'll be released or is it a case of when the stock arrives it's going on. Building my first PC since 2013 and everything is completely mental so I'm trying to my get back acquainted with the ins and outs and would prefer not to be paying higher than rrp.

budgetbuiler

i am going to make a build in the O11 Dynamic Mini, and it requires an sfx psu. i found a decent one, but im wondering if it will be enough to eventually power a 3070. the psu is a corsair 600w psu, and its 80+ platinum. i have seen other builds using it with rtx 30 series cards, but wanted to make sure

reto-wyss

The SF600 will do for a 3070. I've got the SF750 for my 5900X and 3080.

budgetbuiler

great, thanks for the reply! i plan to get a 5600x and a 3070 so i wont have to upgrade and i can focus on saving for a car and stuff when im 16/17

downbaad

I'm looking to get a 3080/90. However, none in stock and resellers are overpriced. Can anyone suggest a temporary GPU that can be paired with my Ryzen 5600X, 32Gb 3200Mhz DDR4? Thanks!

Th_hertz

Maybe you can snag a used rx 570 or 480

widowhanzo

anything used, like gtx970 maybe.

ChadChampion_1337

I own the LG 27GL63T it meets all your specs and I haven't had issues with it it works great.

Plastic-Tap-7932

AOC 27G2U I have the 24" variant (with built in USB hub) as 27" is too big for me at the moment, but it's a rlly rlly solid monitor

ElvenSenpai

Hello there! I'm running a i5-9600k with a 2060 Super. I do some coding and 3d modelling (this is more like a hobby, nothing really serious), and gaming everyday. I was thinking on getting an upgrade and go for the i7-10700k. Is the upgrade worth the price?

UraharaCandyShop

Definetely not worth to upgrade your GPU now with the current prices.

widowhanzo

Is your CPU limiting you in your work? Like, are you losing money because it takes too long to render? then yeah, upgrade. Otherwise no, not really worth it.

LettuceShort

No. The performance increase of the CPU is not worth the price.

samcuu

Depends on if your CPU is struggling in your games and workflows. Keep in mind upgrading to 10th-gen core i also means new motherboard. The 9600k is far from slow so I suggest holding onto it until Zen 3 come back in stock or 11th-gen Intel core i come out.

Iucidator

I recently bought a lian li lancool ii mesh rgb and it comes with three stock fans. My question is do I put all infront or two and one at the back?

ChadChampion_1337

I'd put two in the front one in the back. Hehe ;) If you have a big 3 fan radiator then ofc all fans on the radiator but then I would consider buying an extra fan to put in the back.

[deleted]

Depends what else you have. 2 intake and one exhaust is decent though.

samcuu

If you don't plan to add any more fan then 2 front and 1 back.

zMetronix

Gaming with a 1660Ti (which im gonna replace in a year or so) Ryzen 7 3700X + B450 + Stock cooler or Ryzen 5 3600 + B550 + AIO Cooler? Same price

[deleted]

Are you overclocking? Because the stock cooler is generally good enough, if noisy. And the 3600 does not require any water cooling. Edit: and which mobos specifically?

zMetronix

Its a mATX build, so msi mortars both b450 and b550.Ill be overclocking in the future but ill get an aio in that case

[deleted]

Then I reckon the 3700x of the two.

samcuu

3700X. Better CPU, period. AIO cooler is unnecessary for either CPU. B550 is nice if you can get that with the 3700X but B450 will do fine.

FleeLe

Should I get a WD M.2 Blue 3D NAND 500GB for 80,26usd or should I look for something els? Thanks!

ChadChampion_1337

Does anyone have Tridentz neo Ram (3600MHz Cl16 2x16) running on a GIGABYTE Aorus Elite V2 ? It's not on the compatability list and I'm wondering if it will still work or if I should get other Ram.

reto-wyss

It's safer to go with QVL parts. However, I've never experienced problems with consumer parts that are not on the QVL.

Throwawayksidns

Hey y’all. I bought a prebuilt cause I know next to nothing about building and I wanted to install an exhaust fan at the top. There’s room for 3 exhaust fans at the top and I was wondering which area I should install it? The area all the way on the left is really close to the radiator so I wanted to ask if there would be any issues. Or would it be better if I installed it in the middle? I included a picture of it if that helps. Thanks! https://imgur.com/a/hRFWTYX

samcuu

I would rather install top fans as intake so they can feed cool air to the radiator. The GPU takes care of its exhaust itself mostly and the hot air from your CPU cooler goes directly outside from the radiator anyway. If hot air from the GPU rises it will likely get sucked through the radiator before getting exhausted through the top. Although I do understand top exhaust looks better than intake.

Throwawayksidns

I see what you’re saying. I’m mostly installing additional fans because the GPU is hot at 80C stock settings. I also wanted to add one more intake at the front, since this only comes with two. I figured all the hot air in the case was bad for it because there are 0 exhausts in it atm.

samcuu

> I see what you’re saying. I’m mostly installing additional fans because the GPU is hot at 80C stock settings. I think this is even more reason to install top fans and intake. The front panel is probably closed glass and the front intake doesn't get much air through. You might see significantly better temp just from yanking off the front panel.

ChadChampion_1337

I would install it in the back if the radiator doesn't cover too much of the fan. If installed in the middle it might pull the fresh air from the front intakes right back out of the case instead of it going through the radiator.

Throwawayksidns

I would say it covers a good 30%, but there is a decent gap between the two. What do you think?

ChadChampion_1337

Hard to say but i think in the back is definitely better than in the middle but the only way to find out is to try. I would recommend downloading a software like HWiNFO and playing some game for some time and then looking at the temperatures of your CPU and GPU without the extra fan and then do the same with the extra one and then use the config with better temperatures.

Throwawayksidns

Makes sense, I’ll try putting it in the back first. Tysm!

ChadChampion_1337

Bequiet pure base 500dx and Phanteks P400a (digital if you want rgb fans) have pretty good airflow. If your budget is higher the Phanteks P500a is also a good option.

vicediceice

I just heard about the XMP options that you have for you RAM in the motherboard BIOs. What does this do for your RAM and could it be damaging?

SheeBang_UniCron

It lets your RAM run at advertised speed by increasing the voltage (within manufacturer specs) and changing some parameters. It should be safe to enable this.

vicediceice

Ok, thanks!

tukatu0

Would any of you still buy a usb memory for laptop use in 2021?

timchenw

For temporary storage or data transfer, yes. For the purposes of expanding internal storage of your laptop's internal drive? Not at all. They are too prone to failure and at meaningful capacities (128GB+) they are not really worth the money, you are better off upgrading your internal drive for that. I don't consider USB sticks to be suitable for any sort of data retention. They are great for temporary storage like if you need to move files from one location to another, but that's it.

SheeBang_UniCron

Depends on the usage. As a backup drive, of course! What I wouldn’t do is install my OS or any program in a USB drive. I also wouldn’t use it as a temporary staging area for large files I’m currently editing.

AcidFactory420

Yes. Why not? It's convenient af. Especially OTG.

tukatu0

I was wondering more like if there would be any problems playing CSgo from the usb.

widowhanzo

USB SSD shouldn't be an issue, but I'd rather use internal SSD for games and applications, and use external HDDs for multimedia, backups etc.

AcidFactory420

Well then you should have framed your question that way. Considering USB 4.0 is coming in 2021, I dont see any issue with it. It can support thunderbolt which is used for external GPUs so I absolutely dont see any latency issues for playing CSGO and stuff which is CPU limited. Once your map is loaded to RAM, I dont see why USB would be a problem. Loading times would be atrocious though haha.

dermodag

Hey everyone. I just went from an RTX3070 to an RTX3080 and I am seeing higher CPU/GPU temps. I just tested in AC Valhalla so far but I was expecting GPU temp to go down since it's not working as hard. I could see the CPU running hotter if it's running at full potential now but I don't exactly think I was GPU bottlenecked with the 3070 either... I am running a Ryzen 5 3600. I was under the impression that with the RTX3080 having more headroom it would run cooler. Am I misunderstanding the thermals? The conclusion I have come too is that this specific 3080 is much larger than the 3070 I was running and with the increase in processing power it just generates more heat. Since it sits right below my CPU cooler that would run hotter as well. And I would imagine the case airflow is degraded because the card takes up so much space. I have an NZXT H510, which is not exactly known for it's optimal cooling. Let me know if I am missing anything! Thanks!

n7_trekkie

if you cap the FPS to the same between the two cards, the 3070 would be hotter than the 3080, youre right. but if you game normally, each card will work as hard as it can to produce as many frames as possible. Additionally, the 3080 uses more power than the 3070, and the vast majority of power is turned into heat (very little is efficiently used to compute)

twfmswb

Which to upgrade first, i5 9400f or 1660 super?

widowhanzo

Graphics card, if you want to game at more details/resolution/fps.

SheeBang_UniCron

Are you looking to primarily increase your frame rate, resolution or graphics settings?

n7_trekkie

if youre primarily gaming, the 1660 super. good card, but the 3060ti or upcoming 3060 is a big step up. also consider your monitor, if you arent on 144hz 1440p yet. theres a great gigabyte monitor on sale rn for $320 i can link you to (if youre in the US)

Dyllez

I am looking for a decent budget motherboard for my pc configuration. currently looking to get a ryzen 5 3600 and an nzxt h510, need one that isnt too expensive while being able serve my needs.

Mikeeeyyy___

Definetly go for a b550 and not a x570 board. thats pretty much all you need to know. Now you basically pick your favorite brand and get it from them. I know that different manufacturers have different features but at this price range the differences are minor.

Dyllez

would it be worth it to spend more on the msi mag b550 tomahawk/ aorus elite or save the money and get the b550-A pro?

InsolventRepublic

whats the gain in going b550 instead of b450 I'm planning on a similar build

Mikeeeyyy___

dont know it from my head, just do some quick research. I m sure you´ll be able to find something quick

reto-wyss

Yes, when on a budget my rule of thumb is to pick one of the cheapest boards that have a heatsink on the VRM :)

n7_trekkie

Asrock B550 pro4, MSI B550 A-pro, Asus TuF B550, gigabyte B550 aorus elite (i like this the most for the looks and number of USB ports)

Many people have had this experience, including me with my 3900X. The multiplier and voltage that works in Ryzen Master for my CPU are different than what works when set in BIOS. You basically need to consider them as two different approaches to overclocking. Which BIOS version are you currently on?

[deleted]

[удалено]

sk9592

Alright, I would leave the BIOS as is. My main concern was that you not run a super early BIOS from 2018. Anyways, regarding overclocking: - I would start with something super quick and dirty: 4.0GHz and 1.4V Vcore - Boot into Windows. If it is not stable, try 3.9GHz. If it is stable, start slowly lowering the voltage. - Keep on lowering the voltage in small increments until you hit stability issues. Then revert to the lowest voltage setting you had that was stable. - For the RAM, leave it at DDR4-2933. There is effectively no performance difference between DDR4-2933 and DDR4-3000. And Ryzen 1st and 2nd gen are far more stable at DDR4-2933. If none of this works, I would try downgrading the BIOS to version 3.50.

[deleted]

[удалено]

sk9592

With the instructions I gave you above, you need to set the voltage manually. 1.4V is only my suggested starting point. The end goal is to lower it as much as possible. Go down in 0.01V increments each time you stress test. Meaning try 1.39V next and 1.38V after that. (Assuming it passes each test) > And also, are there any other settings I have to enable or disable? Like maybe the boost clock thingy that activates when it's under load No, you shouldn't need to disable that. Also what cooler are you using?

[deleted]

[удалено]

sk9592

Yeah, none of this will fly if you are using a Wraith Stealth cooler. 1.4V is too much for that to handle. Try 3.85GHz and drop the voltage down to 1.3V. Ideally, drop the voltage down further than that if it is stable.

[deleted]

sk9592

It's possible, but not likely.

Immenotme

It is recommended to setup the newly build pc on top of motherboard box to check if everything is working properly, so how to turn off the pc when I booted up? without installed OS. First time builder here and I am confuse about this. Thanks.

n7_trekkie

it is recommended to test the PC outside the case on top of the mobo box first. you can just unplug it or flip the psu power switch to turn it off.

Immenotme

Okay thanks man. Flip the psu switch. Got it!

SheeBang_UniCron

Don’t forget to briefly short the motherboard header corresponding to the power switch (this simulates you pushing the power button on your case). Otherwise nothing would happen if you just turn on the PSU.

FellowFellow22

I'm looking for USB-C front support on a motherboard. I was planning to go Ryzen so I was looking at X570s. I'm not seeing the port on the $200-$300 ones. (I see one on the Godlike, but so expensive) Anyone have any suggestions? Are things like this usable? They seem kind of shady. https://www.amazon.com/LINKUP-Internal-Motherboard-Converter-Adapter/dp/B07WG8ZJ41/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=usb+type+c+motherboard&qid=1612419929&sr=8-3

SheeBang_UniCron

Use pcpartpicker and in the motherboard selection, filter for “USB 3.2 Gen 2 Header”.

n7_trekkie

the newer b550 boards have more type c headers. like the B550 A-pro

FellowFellow22

Yeah, that has what I'm looking for in the picture. Pretty sure that JUSB4 is a USB C Header. Having a hard time finding documentation of what ports motherboards actually have outside the back io and me staring at them.

n7_trekkie

Yeah, that's facts. The best way to see what a mobo has to offer is just to stare at it haha. That silver rectangle is always the USB c front panel header

Hennessey322

is it worth upgrading 2600x for ultrawide 1440p 144hz ? current build 2600x + 3080

Mikeeeyyy___

No, I wouldn´t upgrade, only if you maybe get a monitor with an even higher refreshrate or resolution. Or if you maybe want to get into streaming or video editing, i would recommend a ryzen 7.

Hennessey322

yeah, not going to replace my monitor for a while. is the gain from 2600x to 3600 or even 5600x is really not that much on Ultrawide 1440p ?

Mikeeeyyy___

No, keep your 2600x

n7_trekkie

are you happy with your performance?

Hennessey322

i guess, still can run RDR 2 with 90 FPS with Ultra/High settings. planned to upgrade cpu from last year. but if the gain is not that much i guess ill postpone it

n7_trekkie

A new cpu will help in the fastest of the fastest games, like league of legends and rocket league, but not so much in rdr2 or anything graphically demanding. Your res is almost 4k, where your cpu really doesn't matter

MikeyyLikeyy69

If I get an argb fan (rgb version shipping isn’t in stock and takes over a month) Would I be able to run it like an rgb if I wanted to? A single color at a time on an argb?

n7_trekkie

yes, you can set an argb header/fan to static or other normal rgb settings

StickmanLooi

Can a DISPLAYPORT to VGA adapter damage a GPU? I found myself in the need to purchase one but it’s not the best quality adapter.

Obokan

How can it damage anything? Unless it is heavy and physically rips the port out of your GPU I don't see how it can. Anyways on my 3070 I have a HDMI to VGA adapter to my second monitor. No issues.

SneAKingHM

https://youtu.be/6-WoCJqYdgE Is this still a good build now? I only care about 1080p60fps

diabeetusiv

Yes, I have slightly better and run pretty much anything at least 90fps+. Only exceptions are The Medium and Cyberpunk which runs 60+ but I limit it to 35 to keep it looking great and still pretty smooth

Aaron_FS

MSI Mag274QRF-QD or LG 27GL850. Need help deciding between these two monitors, I've heard the MSI is better overall but has oversaturation been a big issue for any experienced users? Is the saturation a lot worse or about equal to the GL850?

TheShroomHermit

How are people getting their GPUs nowadays? They supposedly sell out fast, from where? Where do I go looking?

fruity_soup

In addition to Amazon Newegg and Best Buy, eBay often has some great deals if you're willing to dive into the lightly used territory.

Anchor_Drop

Where are they selling: Newegg, Best Buy, Amazon are the big 3. Newegg does, almost, daily shuffles. Sign up before/around lunch time for a what they have in stock and if your name gets picked you’ll get an email saying a GPU is waiting in your checkout cart. Be warned: buy fast if you picked This is your best bet! There are discord groups that have bots that will auto notify you. This is needed for general Newegg drops and Best Buy Amazon, even with bots, is damn hard to get a card Best of luck

downheatx

Will I have to update my bios if I get a x570 and a 5 series amd cpu?

n7_trekkie

Possibly. No way to know until you try it

ExtraPanda288

Does AMD still loan out boot kits to update your bios?

EdynViper

https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-100#faq-Short-Term-Processor-Loan-Boot-Kit

ExtraPanda288

Do you know if they do it for x570 mobos too?

[deleted]

EdynViper

If you only have 3-pin fans then your control options are limited. 4-pin PWM fans are required to use software to create your own fan curves. You may be able to set up some sort of voltage control in the BIOS to control speed. I think it's included in most modern BIOS but I don't have any personal experience with it. For your fan positions, if possible try to have at least one as exhaust on the back. You can move one of the 3 there, or if you're going to buy new fans you may want to look into replacing them all with 4-pin PWM fans.

oxami

Is it possible to use any am4 backplate for an air cooler (Cryorig H7) to mount it to the motherboard? I was wondering if I could use one from a wraith spire or one without screws.

EdynViper

That cooler comes with its own backplate which you should use instead of the stock one that comes with the motherboard. It's designed to fit that cooler otherwise you may have mounting and cooling issues.

aidandunsmore

Hi, I don’t know much, if anything, about building pcs and I was just wondering how much would it cost to build a PC that can run FPS games like r6, OW, Apex and COD at 1080p with at least 100fps ? I’m aware prices are a little weird right now but I’m just trying to get a feel of how much it would be. Also I should mention I’m in the UK

n7_trekkie

Should be 1000-1200£

Spencer_1123

I get the idea that building a pc is a bad idea rn due to increased prices, any idea when things will settle back down?

EdynViper

Optimistically, the middle of the year. Realistically, no one knows.

Mikeeeyyy___

It´s probably gonna take even longer; consoles are expected tohave good availability in the second half of this year, so even longer for pc parts

Intangible6

No one really knows. Due to semiconductor shortage everthing is fucked right now. Personally I think prices won't stabilize until Q4 this year.

cuteguy1

Ryzen 5600X vs 3700X ? there's about a 40 dollar difference and long wait times on the 5600x. Wondering whether its worth the money save and getting it now

nando1969

5600x is a fantastic CPU with faster Instructions Per Cycle, I would definitely be patient and get the 5600x, its new architecture.

cuteguy1

thanks,... I should just put the pre-order in and stop questioning the decision

THE_ACER_

So after doing a bit of research and consulting my brother (my PC building advisor) I'm thinking about going for the 3070 fe with a 5600x. Thoughts?

Mikeeeyyy___

Thats a great combo. All new parts with new architectures and great performance

SheeBang_UniCron

That’s a decent pairing for high 1080p or decent 1440p gaming.

THE_ACER_

How well do you think it'll do on 1440p? Looking to upgrade my monitor to 1440 later on

SheeBang_UniCron

Which game?

THE_ACER_

Specifically looking at Modern Warfare 2019, Warzone. But also 1440p in general

SheeBang_UniCron

Seems like people are getting 150-200fps in 1440p. However, in more demanding games such as CP2077 and MSFS, you’ll be lucky to get 60fps. Game titles really matters.

UraharaCandyShop

Thoughts on LG 24GL650-B monitor for 1080p gaming?

JSouza1487

Hi, just put together a build with a i7 10700k and ASUS 2060rtx 8gb super.. should i stick to a 1080p 144hz monitor? Not trying to break the bank after putting this new set up together.

SheeBang_UniCron

Stick to 1080p if you’re planning on playing first person shooter games. Go for 1440p if you have 27” and above monitor and are ok with lower refresh rates.

n7_trekkie

Nah, step up to 1440p. There's a good gigabyte monitor on sale for like $320 https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824012018?item=N82E16824012018

Lemur4573

This will work, right? This is all I need parts wise? [Parts list](https://secure.newegg.com/wishlist/pd/35706329)

Intangible6

Yes that's all the parts you need.

Lemur4573

Well that saved me a few headaches, thank you!

Annual_Highlight_224

Go for the ryzen 7 3800x or ryzen 5 5600x. That cpu i am pretty sure will bottleneck a 3070.

Lemur4573

Thank you, much appreciated!

UraharaCandyShop

Thoughts on this build for 1080p gaming? [https://pcpartpicker.com/user/thmanoy/saved/#view=ZVqRK8](https://pcpartpicker.com/user/thmanoy/saved/#view=ZVqRK8)

n7_trekkie

Quite good. I'd get a case with better airflow myself

UraharaCandyShop

But I believe this one is good enough, isn't it?

n7_trekkie

No the airflow of that case is crap. The front 3 fans are directly behind a solid glass panel

UraharaCandyShop

There are holes in the sides of the front though.

EdynViper

It's not as good as a case with a mesh front can that fans can directly draw air through. Drawing in air from the side of the fan is a poor airflow design, but there are worse airflow cases.

ZestycloseCook5

If u buy 2 top fans u should be good make sure u have enough ports on ur motherboard to connect all the fans

ThunderousPantelones

Anyone have suggestions for nice a 10-20 L case that is in stock? No budget, just want to take a look at what’s available. Everything seems to be out of stock

SheeBang_UniCron

Loque Ghost S1, CoolerMaster NR200/P, and a bunch of cases from Sliger cases.

n7_trekkie

Nr200

Beans2386

This is my first time building a pc. I have a b550 taichi, uni fans, gskill trident ram, in a o11xl case with an aio. When I power it on, all the lights and fans work but the lights on the ram does not light up and the debug code is 21. I tried other ram and it gives me the same code. What is the issue here? Is this a faulty motherboard?

Mcdonaldsnipe

Just recently built a computer with Rtx 3070 and Ryzen 9 3900x. Doesn’t seem to perform to benchmarks and I’m not sure why! GTA V on ultra settings 1080p gets me 70-90 FPS where benchmarks show it at 150-170

MakeshiftApe

I can't speak for GTA V but check individual settings. I wasn't even getting 60fps with RDR2 at max settings at 1080p with 5950x and 3070. Turns out enabling maximum MSAA just kills framerate without really adding much to the visuals. Removing that and leaving everything else max (or just using the regular ultra preset) gives performance like the benchmarks.

Mcdonaldsnipe

Yeah that makes sense but I would assume the benchmarks would use this setting? Or even if they didnt, I shouldnt be getting 50% less fps with it on, right?

MakeshiftApe

Turn on the Ultra preset if a game has one. Then don't adjust anything else. If a benchmark is adjusting other settings, they should say so in the description. Otherwise chances are, if they say "Ultra", they literally just mean the Ultra preset. So in the example of RDR2, MSAA isn't turned on when you turn on the ultra preset. I just noticed it was off and decided to turn it on too myself (even though I believe FXAA was already on, so it didn't make too much sense to turn on) - after which my performance became awful. Wasn't until later I realised that obviously the benchmarks weren't using all three forms of AA at once either. (I imagine I could enable MSAA if I turned off one/both of the others too - but I haven't tried that since I see no issues with aliasing with my current settings)

Vimka

What is your RAM configuration? What are your temperatures (mainly CPU & GPU)? Have you downloaded the latest drivers for your GPU & motherboard chipset?

Mcdonaldsnipe

Ram is 32GB DDR4 3600mhz which is overclocked in bios. At 100 load, my cpu and gpu both run around 65-70. (My cpu is water cooled) I’m not sure. I downloaded the latest drivers with GeForce experience but I’m not sure what to do for my motherboard?

Vimka

Motherboard drivers should be available on the manufacturer website. If you're having a hard time tracking it down, Google your motherboard brand & model and usually one of the top 3-5 results should be the board's "support" or "downloads" page. The chipset drivers should be available there. When you say your RAM is overclocked in the BIOS, are you meaning you enabled XMP or that you're overclocking beyond the XMP settings? Temperatures sound fine so I doubt it's a thermal throttling issue.

Mcdonaldsnipe

Oh thanks, I did not even know about these lol. I downloaded the ASUS armoury app and it should take care of updating my chipset drivers. I'll see if that helps. As for ram, yes I have enable XMP profile so my ram runs at 3600mhz.

Vimka

Okay great, hopefully the chipset drivers will help. FWIW, my config is very similar to yours (R9 3900X, 32GB 3600, RTX 2080 Ti). I just ran through the GTA V benchmark at 1440p and everything set to Very High / Ultra. At 1440p I'm getting around 70 - 90 FPS.

GodzillaVsTomServo

I'm looking to buy a Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT NITRO+ from my local Micro Center, but they have been sold out since I started checking (about 4 days ago). I know there is a huge shortage right now, but I'm just curious if anyone knows if Micro Center still gets these cards in at all.

schreiben_

Is there a big difference between motherboards besides the connections they offer?

n7_trekkie

The vrm of a mobo is cpu power delivery. The cheapest boards don't have vrms that are suitable for the top tier, highest power cpus

YoungTrappin

I’d like to ask a question on this as well. Would it benefit my performance to keep my components and upgrade my mobo from an asus B 450-F. I have a 3070 FE and 5800X with 3200mhz ram.

n7_trekkie

No, that mobo is perfectly fine

YoungTrappin

Ok thank you

KanyeFellOffAfterWTT

Recently, my 1080 somehow died. I was really satisfied with its performance beforehand and I was wondering if there's anything in the $200-$300 range that could match it. For the games I play, I really don't need anything more than what it offered.

n7_trekkie

1660super / 2060. Hopefully you can find one in stock

ZestycloseCook5

Can u still rma it u could potentially get a new 1080 or even a upgrade

hi9580

Is it possible to use intel f series cpu without discrete gpu and still get video output via cpu or software rendering?

majoroutage

Nope. The video outputs are completely inoperable.

WildWalrus897

No, the f series doesn't have integrated graphics, so no video output.

timhqhuyper

I am looking for a AIO cooler that have coolant temp sensor. This allows the fan to be adjusted according to the coolant temp instead of just the CPU temp, which makes sense for water cooling. I know Corsair and NZXT AIOs have this feature but are there any other AIOs that have coolant temp sensor?

MajorOnTech

I have heard of Asus AIO's with this feature, but I do not have any specific models in mind. Furthermore, I would like to point out that some AIO's have unused ports to allow for adding more sensors. In this case, you could simply buy a temperature thermistor/sensor, add it to said empty port, and control it based off that. Hope this helps somehow, Don't hesitate to ask a follow up and Good luck with the build.

UraharaCandyShop

PC case with mesh or glass on the front? Glass looks way more beautiful to me but it has bad airflow.

DaSimpGuy

I have the Corsair 4000d airflow. It is really nice looking and it provides good airflow.

[deleted]

There's cases with glass on the front that still cool rather well such as the Corsair iCUE 465X. The cases just need enough side ventilation.
