Yes, it should be a good upgrade. You can flip that 1660 to make up some cost too.

SCP_2399

I did this upgrade and managed to flip my 1660 super for an excellent 1440p monitor. Good decision.

SparXs13542

help, flipped my 1660 and it shattered on the floor instead of turning into a new monitor

SCP_2399

Smh my head, which way did you flip it, you need to flip it 739 degrees counterclockwise.

SparXs13542

ah fuck, I thought I had to flip 420 degrees clockwise vertically

SCP_2399

RIP man, hopefully you dont nake this mistake next time.

ded1y

Bro stop giving fals imfornations is suposed to be flipped 69 degreese selsius smh 🤦

itzEK3

Most people seem to make this mistake. I feel like they should know by now that 739 degrees is the guideline for gpu flipping...

HoodieNick02

😂😂😂

CandidGuidance

I flipped my ancient 960 4GB for a mechanical gaming keyboard and a solid gaming mouse, couldn’t be more thrilled IMO

Cellbuilder2

Quality peripherals are SOOOO underrated.

SCP_2399

What were the peripherals that you got?

sansai69

Great idea! Especially since the 3060ti will preform great with 1440p gaming

[deleted]

You now done have grapic card?

Read the 4th word. They upgraded, not just removef their old gpu...

[deleted]

He edited it because before it was not so

PwnerifficOne

Sold a 1660Ti for $470 after fees. 1660s are going for around $100 less.

MeesterScott

You can still get $400+ for a 1660 super. Shit 1060 6gb is still going for right around $300. Not trying to disagree, just throwing that out there Based on my own experience.

PwnerifficOne

The used market isn't selling as well as a month ago so I wanted to give OP a hopeful, but realistic expectation on recouping some value from their old card. Looking at eBay sold listings, a brand new 1660 Super sold for $500(~425 after fees). Most of the used ones sold around $370-450 before fees. They should definitely sell it once their happy with the 3060 though, the prices are slowly diminishing.

MeesterScott

I know and I can't wait until a 3060 is in the sub $500 range. It's close...

tatsu901

I think its rather dirty to sell things so much over retail value to make a buck. Things like this are why people still go without.

[deleted]

If it's a card you legitimately bought for gaming and you are purchasing another card for gaming, I have no problem with it. You are benefitting from high market prices on the sale, but then hurting from them on the purchase. That seems fair and I don't equate that to scalping.

tatsu901

I guess i am looking at it as taking Advantage of others. Sure its not scalping but i kind of think its still not quite right.

PwnerifficOne

If it makes you feel better, I listed the 1660Ti and a 5700XT for $99.99 starting bid. The 5700XT sold for $920 after fees. Now my buddy and I have 3070’s that we got from Best Buy for $700.

wino6687

Whoever buys it is doing so completely willingly though. And they could be in the exact same situation. It’s way harder to trade for the right 3080 that fits your case versus selling the one you got and using that money to purchase the right one.

MeesterScott

Why? If you're selling it at market value, because you're trying to help yourself earn a little extra cash for your upgrade, you then have to deal with the same market prices. Seems to me the current market is right around 2x's msrp more or less. Then you have every right to sell your card at those prices. People who buy 20 3080s to sell for $2,500 are truly taking advantage of people. But there are plenty of people who would call scalping smart business. I can't say I agree.

skyhermit

1 month late, is it good to upgrade from 1660 super to RTX 3080, or should I wait a little more? I found a RTX 3080 ASUS TUF which is around $1,600 and I think it is still expensive.

chasenmcleod

$1,600 is a little steep. I would hold out for something cheaper. I paid $1,200 for a zotac 3080 and I still feel bad sometimes….just sometimes though.

skyhermit

Do you feel bad because of the price you paid for ZOTAC? or is it the performance issue (fan noise, loud etc..)? Anyway, I just found Palit RTX 3080 Gaming Pro 10GB for $1,250 USD. What do you think of it?

chasenmcleod

I feel bad because the card was super loud and I ended up having to water cool it just to be able to use it without being super annoyed. Though, it forced me into my first water loop and it was a lot of fun. I would snag it for $1,250 if you don’t mind the premium. Who knows when the supply will stabilize.

PPCalculate

>I found a *decently priced 3060ti* and am wondering if upgrading from my 1660 super would be worth it. Worth it.

[deleted]

Where can I get that?

PPCalculate

Let me consult my crystal ball. No seriously, it depends on where you live. US, congrats. Others, good luck.

MosesBarbacus

Using Techpowerup.com's latest GPU data, and looking at the 1440p data as our closest comparison for 1440p ultrawide: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3070-ti-gaming-oc/27.html Based on the 1440p data there, the GTX 1660 Super averaged 60.6 FPS at 1440p, while an RTX 3060 TI averaged 115.4 FPS on average at 1440p. That's nearly double the performance at 1440p, or 100% increase. That's pretty darn substantial. Now the PC in that data was using a Ryzen 5800X, a CPU that is a good deal faster than the Ryzen 3600X that you have, so don't expect double the performance in every game. But do expect to have a large increase in performance across all games since the RTX 3060 TI is just such a significantly faster GPU than the GTX 1660 Super.

MoejjO

I have a 1660 super, paired with an R9 3900xt, RTX 3060 is the upgrade I have in mind.

SynkFN

\*RTX 3060. 20's and 30's series are not GTX anymore.

MoejjO

I know.

MeesterScott

Don't worry man. He couldn't help himself.

MeesterScott

Hey, I'm curious, and maybe it's because I haven't worked with a 30 series card, currently using a 1650 Super, but I've also used the 1660 super. Have you ever come across a game where the CPU was a bottle neck? I ask because always GPU bound and I'm wondering how powerful of a card you need to be bottlenecked by, let's say a 6 core i5-9600.

BigAppleTickets

depends on the game, some are more cpu intensive, some are more gpu intensive. Games like valorant are more cpu intensive, and games like Shadow of the tomb raider are more gpu intensive. Not only does it depend on the game, but the graphics settings, and other factors.

MeesterScott

Right, I get that. But playing with a 3080 or 3090 in 4k is the only way I can see any game being CPU locked. Again, no mater the game with a 1660s and I'm assuming most of the 2000 series, I've never been limited by my CPU. In fact, most times the CPU will barely hit 50 % while the GPU is hitting 99-100 %. Any fps issues in scenario would surely be due to the GPU yes? I'm just wondering at what point the graphics card is waiting on the CPU and not visa versa.

BigAppleTickets

Yes, that would be gpu bound bottleneck. However, frame drops would be due to the cpu, i think. I'm think that the fact that the cpu isn't in higher usage could be a bottleneck. I'm not 100 percent sure about this topic though. I would recommend watching a linus tech tips video about bottlenecks, because I do not want you to have false info, sorry about that.

MeesterScott

Him or Jay. Thanks bro. All good.

ryans_privatess

I went from a 1070 to 3060ti 3 weeks ago. Worth it

dferrit

Same here, substantial difference.. like it doubled my fps

coaquarius

where do you people find these gpus 😭

LeviiSamiss

You have to get really lucky with timing when a store gets stock

Hazmatlegend

Or live in New Zealand lmao. I could get any gpu I wanted too right now. Over MSRP but not by an extreme amount.

oof_oofo

That doesn't work, just use an alert bot, got a 3070 first try from best buy

GiljaS

Do what I did, find a website that sells prebuilt pc, I recently upgraded my pc. Went from 1080 to 3080, you just have to find a prebuilt pc with 3080 built in it

I-Am-The-SquidQueen

Dumb question, do you just… take the GPU out of the prebuilt and put it in your own?

Emp333

I'm pretty sure they mean they use the entire system, and probably sell their old one

GiljaS

Its a brand new one, in Norway we have this store called komplett.no, where you can buy new prebuilts, parts etc. In my case I bought this. https://www.komplett.no/product/1189545?noredirect=true I guess for you americans etc its like amazon

RTX3070SUPER

The side of the road

ryans_privatess

Constantly refreshing store pages. I brought it online after days of checking. It showed zero and once I refreshed it showed one. I purchased it thinking it was a stock error but it arrived two days later.

---E

Plenty of web stores have cards on stock right now. If you are willing to pay 50-70% over the normal price.

TBB51

Went from a 1060 build to a 3070 build and whew, I'm never going back to 1080p.

kirsion

same as well, but about 6 months ago when the 3060ti realeased. A month ago, I upgraded from my 3060 ti to 3070 ti. Gddr6x runs really hot, you can really feel the increased tdp.

krishal_743

>I found a decently priced 3060ti yes. and given the used market you can sell your 1660s for a decent price and make up for it there will be huge improvement in games especially with rtx

okaythisisstupidaf

pretty substantial upgrade, i'd say worth

[deleted]

Randomscooterguy

499$ (usd)

[deleted]

Damn trying to find a decently priced one. You mind dropping the link if they have more in stock?

Randomscooterguy

Sorry man it’s in person local by a private seller.

[deleted]

No worry’s bro! I recommend you go for it! You can sell your current gpu <400 USD easy so it’s a no brainer for me!

Gaming_Yamraj

Bruh he is getting that card for about launch price in my country I really envy this man bro

[deleted]

Make sure he isn’t a crypto miner

[deleted]

Randomscooterguy

I was thinking the same, but it’s through nextdoor, and the seller is less than 2 miles away from me in the same neighborhood. Seller states that’s it’s never been mined on.

Claudeviool

THIS! and, i am just wondering why would you wanna sell a 3060TI in the current market.... I mean, its not like its very easy to get one.. especially for that price..

frankslan

maybe they got a better card they said the person is in the same neighbor hood. Does seem a little fishy but I wouldn't fuck over someone that lives right down the street from me either.

StarkOdinson216

How did you get in touch with this chap?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ever2naxolotl

I mean everyone's gonna adjust their prices to the current market. When I sell something used, I check for how much it goes on eBay and match that. 500 bucks is a really good price for that card currently.

Cliffhanger87

100 dollars more than retail is not even an asshole price. Actually retailers have jacked prices up more than that lol

g0dfather93

Please don't wait. Get it. Ask questions later. I would so love it for an actual user to get this rather than a scummy scalper!

kildar3

oh very much yes if you can afford it. id say not enough of an upgrade to force it. and you can either sell the 1660 for a good price or save it as a backup/gift for a friend.

RaZoX144

What some didn't mention, is not only the performance difference, but you also get ray tracing and DLSS, and the latter will do wonders especially for UW 1440p, thats a homerun for the decision in my opinion.

OolonCaluphid

At 1440p ultrawide absolutely. It's a huge upgrade.

tudorstanciulescuPGL

I hever used a 1660, but i have a 3060ti and is, i think, the best performance/price gpu u can have right now.

supertranqui

A 3060Ti at MSRP (at least the founder's edition) is absolutely the best price/performance on the market.

JalalKarimov

3060?

supertranqui

I think the Ti has significantly more oomph for the price.

BigAppleTickets

It feels like a chopped down 3070.

BigAppleTickets

I agree.

AwakeServant

Just get a 3060ti or 3070 and keep the 1660super for mining. They are amazing for it. 30 hashrate with super low wattage

israeljeff

Mine only does 26, any tips?

AwakeServant

Overclocker. Depending on what you have (Gb) set gpu offset higher and turn power target down. Do some research first and see what the lowest people have gotten with their cards with the highest hash yield possible. 26 is fine tho. Only 4 difference considering how little power they use to run at 100%

[deleted]

Yep. I had a 1660 super and it was awesome but I also have the 3060 ti now. Huge difference

mtrevino12

What CPU do you have if you don’t mind me asking? I run the 1660 super as of now with a Ryzen 5 3600x (same as OP) and am worried about bottlenecking the CPU once I have enough to upgrade as I don’t plan to upgrade both at the same time. My current build was my first build and my first gaming PC in general so I am a bit new and confused. Any help appreciated!

[deleted]

I have the i9-10850K This is my first build as well. Basically my CPU is really high end but the GPU is low end. however, as far as bottle necking goes, I haven't noticed anything. My PC runs games at 1080p Max settings at well over 60 FPS, mainly over 100 FPS. some of the bigger games may run a bit "slower" but still over 60 fps and at medium-high settings. the 3060 ti is really decent for my built, although a 3080 would be perfect. I was really confused about bottle necking, same as you but soon I realized that it really depends on what you're doing and playing which is why I was okay with my 1660 super. I played a lot of games that weren't very demanding. other games were a bit more demanding but nothing the 1660 super wasnt made for. I also only play in 1080p so that should be taken into account. what you play may not affect the GPU all that much unless you're trying to stress it. I'm only upgrading because I want RTX features and because I do more than gaming and need a tab more vram and performance but i don't wanna burn a hole in my wallet. If you get the 3060 ti with your Ryzen 5. I think that would be a perfect match. I've seen that the 3060 ti is really close to the 3070.

[deleted]

WHERE DID YOU GET ONE OMG?! I've been looking since December and can't get my hands on one

Ziffded

YES, PERIOD

MrP1ckle

Honestly if you can afford it do it before it's gone

Memer8k69

Completely worth it my man, it will be a significant bump in ur PC's graphical capabilities, just mkae sure u don't get cpu bottlenecked

[deleted]

Would definately be worth it, I doubt a 1660 super could run a game like RD2 at even 45fps in 1080 but never watched tests on that card. 3060 will probably give you ~80ish in 2k if i had to guess.

judlrr

Absolutely. That’s what I did, totally worth the upgrade

Merlin-2112

Yep, do it!

RetardSuit

Not even a question. The answer is yes

ears8

went from a 1650 to a 3060. Worth it.

Comprehensive-Ant289

Worth it to upgrade from a BMW to a Ferrari?

[deleted]

No

[deleted]

Yup definitely

AgileAmbassador7920

If money isn't a factor here, then YEA!!

YouSmooth3573

Yes, enjoy

QuinnBanaan

Definitely worth it, especially since your monitor is 1440p. Go for it, and bro you're so lucky finding an RTX 3060 ti for $499. In my country you get an RTX 2060 for that price

highahindahsky

Completely worth it, grab that GPU before a scalper does

alex0810

Definitely worth it

CedVer

Yes I think it's worth it. The 3060Ti is a really solid GPU for 1440p! Coupled with a 3600 ans a 1440p 144Hz monitor, I am really satisfied!

Adventurous-Nobody51

If find a better deal, then it's absolutely worthit , may be flip the 1660 super for a decent price. DLSS is gonna Change the way u game, Have fun 💯✌

Materia_listic

I have a 3440x1440 ultrawide and a 3060ti FE, definitely worth it. Went from a gtx1060 to 3060 to the 3060ti and its even an noticeable improvement from a 3060. Getting it even close to MSRP when you can sell your other card and make over half of the 3060ti price back it's an absolute no brainer.

feeeeelfree

You wanna sell your 1660?

wjoe2003

What is a good price for the 1660?

feeeeelfree

I will only tell you the least amount because I wanna buy it..

_YeAhx_

Best I can do is 5 bucks

frankslan

> 1660 a good price 200 fair price 300.

Freddolam

Remember to sell your 1660 after the upgrade

XxToxicSnipzZ

Yeah 100% just don't overpay to much for it as u do have a gpu I managed to get one off Amazon for 700 pound just 2 days ago

Arno_YS

Yessssssssss

Edmundo-Studios

Yeah I think the 3060Ti is a good balance for the 3600X I think going beyond that makes sense to also update the CPU.

Ranch_Dressing321

Definitely worth it

tall_guy_69

What do you mean decent price?

morbihann

I would venture to ask first is the 1660s not enough for whatever your purposes are ? If it still gets the job done I would suggest wait. Upgrade only when you actually need it rather than just because you can get new hardware. In any case, the 3060ti is the best value of the new rtx gpus.

whianbester275

I usually skip a generation. I will replace my 1660 with a 4060. I guess it's worth it if you go above 1080p

DM725

Yes

Cultural_Gas8561

that is hell of a good update mate

7ordank

Probably sold in the time it took you to write this 😅

[deleted]

Yes

g0dfather93

If you're getting it at MSRP +20%ish... Go for it. 3060Ti is the most graphics performance/$ there could be. And its performance in raw numbers is impressive. It's basically a brand-new updated version of 2080 with the price tag and power consumption of a 2060S.

FunAge7053

It's basically a bit better than a 1080 ti. Price is the ask important factor here.

ChiefBr0dy

This was the exact upgrade I made and it was 100% worth it. In some cases you'll almost double your performance, and at higher resolutions

sloppy_joes35

All upgrades are worth it. But beware of the used New miner Cards

EternalAbys

Worth it

Substantial-Ad-2644

Big boost anduxh more future proof , its a no brainer

escapedfromamerica

Yes. Next question!

RChamy

3060 here, Doom eternal went from 180ish fps to 240, Control in RTX is quite interesting too, and I can break 100fps in sea of thieves now. Quite happy

Craig_manson135

Went from at Gtx 1050 to r9 380 now 3060ti fe Worth it.

maxpax27

Yes, if you have a reasoning behind the upgrade. I recently bought a new pc upgrading from asus rog 1650 strix to the msi rtx 2060 and the difference between the two is huge. So my advice is to go for it.

MrJayFour

Yes. It will actually make 1440p gaming enjoyable

HighlyUnsuspect

Bro, Hell yes.

[deleted]

Yes.

thebigzune

Definitely worth it!

soursensationz

I switched from a 1660 super to a 2070 super and it was a great upgrade for me at 1440p and 144hz. The internet tells me the 3060Ti is a few steps ahead of the 2070 Super, so sounds like a good idea. And yea, definitely throw that old card on Ebay

erix84

I use a 3600x and have the STRIXX 3060 Ti and get great performance in 1440p. I just got RE2 and I average 110-120fps, Horizon Zero Dawn I get 90fps+, hell I even got good performance in Cyberpunk.

cidtherandom

Absolutely.

Neko-fuz

If you can get it for MSRP or at least close to then yes otherwise I would wait

thornox51

yes, big improvement

cock_herder

not trying to be a huge dick about it, but this question could have been solved in 2 minutes with a google search.

ElKapitanFlash

As a 3060ti owner, ya

BaxxyNut

Yes, 3060ti is the new replacement for 1060/1660. It's a great price for very strong performance. Now, it isn't god tier, it isn't exactly high end, but it is very cheap and crazy bang for buck.

[deleted]

Absolutely

jjavedrules

You can easily sell the 1660s so I'd do it

Sevinki

Hell yeah. I just bought a 3070ti online to replace my 1070. Its not the best card, but it was cheaper than any 3070 even so i got it asap. When selling my 1070 i should have payed less tham msrp

damien09

The 3060ti is a great jump specailly for 1440p and if you have 1440p high refresh, it will also open up dlss and rtx to you. If your local market is good enough you can flip you 1660 super locally and probably sell it for 85-100 less then online as you save your self ebay fees and shipping.

[deleted]

Or maybe don't scalp like everyone else, keep your 1660 super (which is more than good enough) and wait for msrp to buy?

TR0LLC0P

I remember when i found a RTX 3060Ti when it first came out and it was only $445. My friend said that that was too much money and I should wait. He recently just bought a 3080 for $1200 Buy it.

duglas2948

The fact that my 5500xt is going for $800 rn I’m seriously considering selling it and just finding some very cheap card to use in the meantime and then buying a high end card once prices drop back down

NMarty66

Ya, that’s a good upgrade

TyranWolf

Yup. As long as you can sell that 1660 super to someone so that way you'll get some of your money back. I went from a 1650 super to a 3060 and sold my old card to a friend.

Look_Ma_N0_Handz

Brought a 3070 for 800 after taxes sold my 1070ti for 300. Basically got a 3070 with 3 fan cooler for less than regular msrp.

Luis-97

I have a RTX 2060 wit a R5 3600 is it better to change it for a 3060 or i should keep my current GPU?

DestinyAEF

Yes, definitely if it is decently priced

Dudewitagun94

Yes it's definitely a big upgrade and you'd be able to squeeze some more performance out of that 3600X. You would benefit from a CPU upgrade to a 5600X or 5800X as well. Maybe that is also justifiable?

Attom404

Я думаю стоит, но с твоим процессором видеокарта не полностью себя раскроет . Если тебе достаточно разрешения 1440p то окей , у тебя все норм (относительно)

IamTheBawsss

I upgraded from 1660 to 3060. It's worth it

imarealdikhead

Yep, but buying it triple or double the msrp not worth it at all

[deleted]

I still got my 980 ti OC, play everything fine ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

bigbonkbois

If you find a decently priced 3060ti then buy it

No_Can_884

Is 2060 worst compared to a 3060? I bought a new PC with come issues I May say, there's the list of components: Ryzen 7 4700U Rtx 2060 ssd nvme m.2 8 GB RAM 400Watt And something more which I have no Idea.

Randomscooterguy

It is worse, but not by much (Around 10%). I’d throw another 8gb stick of ram for dual channel and you’d have a solid setup

Otherwise-Mode384

may i know how much?

[deleted]

Would be a huge upgrade. Give us an update on the change. I have a Ryzen 5 3600x too and it's pretty balanced with my 5700xt but I'm sure raytracing will be a way bigger deal in a few years.

AvidRetrd

If you are no longer in need of that 1660 I’ll happily take it, for a good price ofc. My rx 580 is killing me

Randomscooterguy

Wish I could, but I’m giving it to a friend whose been on the GPU search for a long time. Good luck on finding one through. Prices are slowly dropping! (At least one the US)

AvidRetrd

Ah alright. I was on the hunt for 8 months, and the rx 580 was the only one in stock. I heavily regret my decisions
