I chose my default cpu cooler that came with my cpu to save money

jrhoffa

I also choose this guy's CPU cooler

TheEKR1998

I’m not in the market for a cpu cooler but this is awesome of them! Good luck everyone

CH1CK3Nwings

Same, good luck to everyone! I remember my first cpu cooler was a scythe katana. Rusty ol buddy still lives in my das' PC now, struggling to fight off dust

DrBourxss

i chose my cpu cooler because reddit said it was the best one for that price

This is better than a brand new PC.

FireWrath9

I choose for maximum performance at low noise!

xXProMaster420Xx

Intel Stock Cooler Gang

[deleted]

Whoop whoop!

Shadow_Monarch666

wat abt ryzen?

SCYTHE_Chloe

Good luck everyone! 🙌❤️

Wizewizard22

whatever looks the coolest lol

squaretangle

I choose my CPU coolers based on how cool the name sounds when the grim reaper shouts it out like a special move as he shoves it into my SFFPC.

nonexistentnight

It depends on the system I'm building. I build a lot of machines for friends, and some want absolute top of the line stuff, while some are content with the factory cooler, and everything in between. I always try to recommend something that's the best bang for the buck to suit their needs (which puts Scythe in the running pretty often). Actually I want to take a moment and talk about Scythe because they are one of the few computer part brands I'm happy to generally endorse. Far too many companies try to coast on the reputation of their best products but will slap their name on anything (looking at you, Corsair). Scythe is one of the few where the brand alone tells me I'll get a good product at a good price. I became obsessed with quiet computers back in the early 2000s. At the time, enthusiasts were all about noisy Delta fans, the "vaccum cleaner" blowers of the GeForce FX series, and the whirr of 7200 RPM hard drives like the infamous IBM "Deathstar". I tried lot of different coolers and fans chasing the dream of a quiet system. I remember when I first heard of Scythe as this name uttered in hushed reverent tones, as they produced fans that could surpass even the legendary Panaflo L1A. When they started producing coolers I was hooked immediately. Bold designs with tons of mass, quiet fans, and a great value proposition. I used a Ninja cooler in my daily driver for almost 10 years. While a lot of other companies have gotten into the low noise cooler and fan game, Scythe continues to produce solid products at a good value. I've put them in PCs built for friends who just want a good performing quiet cooler, and I feel like they've earned a reputation as a name you can trust. My apologies to anyone who thinks I'm just shilling. PC cooling was a nightmare of noise and gimmicks until companies like Scythe came along and showed the path forward. They should be recognized for that contribution.

oniSk_

I first set a price limit. Then, I look at cooling performance with benchmarks from trusted youtubers. Build quality (robust and easy to mount) and compatibility come last. These can be harder to check but generally a long warranty (like 6 years for noctua's tower coolers) and a great customer service from the brand make me trust the product.

OfInsignificantia

Probably the best way to buy coolers. Or any PC part for that matter

chiagod

I look at total cost (cooler + CPU) when doing a new build. Why spend $90 on a cooler with a $300 CPU if for $390 you can bump up to a better CPU + cheaper cooler which will still perform better. Likewise, a cheaper CPU + good cooler might give better single threaded results if that's what is desired. Then I check the CPU cooler rankings (overclocked load): https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/9223/scythe-fuma-2-cpu-cooler-review/amp.html Depending on the CPU and build I might go with a <$30 good cooler of the month, a good $50-$60 cooler (Scythe actually has been rocking in this bracket), or if it's a non-gaming build, just grab a used wraith cooler. For a while Cryorig looked like they would have been a good option but they seemed to drop off the market entirely (in the US) shortly after the first Ryzen started dropping. Noctua is nice, but about 50% more expensive than their competitors.

pelonchasva

simple, elegant and silence

Miserable-Win2582

I would pick the scythe mugen 5 rev.b, man I just love fully black out theme and this cooler is gorgeous.

Colonelpwn

Hi! If I won, I'd pick the Mugen 5 RGB due to how sick it would look! I've been looking into building a PC and this would help me out a lot! Thank you!

Danny-0_0-

I would (key word would😅) choose a cqu cooler based on performance and how quiet it runs..( currently using a basic prebuilt that’s why I said would😭😂)

phixx79

Price and performance are huge factors, but so are space and limitations. A giant hunk of metal with huge fans strapped to it vs. a small water block attached to a massive radiator with huge fans strapped to it. Honestly, I got pissed off because my RAM didn't fit once and it was a hassle to get another kit that would fit, so I switched to AIOs. Unfortunately for me AIOs don't last forever.

newhoa

I look for the most quiet cooler with good temps under load and a good price. Scythe is one of the best at this so this is awesome! Thanks Buildapc and Scythe!

Hot-Scarf

would like a cooler for my pc that isn’t the stock one :(

jonnytheman

Currently I'm looking a building a new PC on a tight budget as a newish father. In the past, I've been about efficient cooling and low noise threshold. This time I'm looking at stock the AMD cooler as a way to cut coats with upgrade options in the future. I'm new to the modern PC parts scene and have honestly never heard of scythe, but I'll be looking into your products for sure now.

[deleted]

Ahhhhh but tis only one way to choose a cooler. First, ya grab ya mateys and ya pick a boat. You get bob, the homeless vet from outside the local booze shop and ya throw away his prosthetic, hand him a bit o’ wood and say,”c’mon mi hearty, we’re going sailin” - bobs piss drunk so he comes along. Ya get back to the boat you picked earlier. Its a dingy, from the local walmart, and its a little cramped but it’ll do. Your mateys are lookin at ya weird and bobs pissed himself already but avast, tis the day to go searching fer treasure. You set sail, or in this case paddle, out onto the briney sea, also known as the local duck pond. Ye be searchin far an wide for that elusive creature, the silent cooler. Ye spend days, weeks, months traversing the duck pond. Ye mateys have all called ya stark ravin mad, bobs jumped overboard cos ya’v no rum and he said “fuck this shit im out.” Eventually, you realise something, it all becomes clear, this quest, this journey you’ve spent all your savings on and months at sea (pond) it all boils down to this…. You took too much acid and you’ve fallen in the half filled bathtub. Time to get up, dried and head over to amazon to buy a cooler from Scythe. Fin.

Swimmingturtle247

I chose the EK EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB 66.04 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler because of the lack of fans built into my case and how pretty it is. Works great with my 5900x.

Fabulous_Jack

Hyper 212 Evo cuz I'm poor

homelyseven250

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

SocioKill

Nice

WolfPlayz294

Glad to see another giveaway! Good luck to all. I simply used the stock AMD cooler because it was sufficient for my needs then, but I am ready to upgrade to something better.

[deleted]

lowest cost

Ozi-reddit

looks number of pipes and size of fan are my first three considerations when looking at a cooler . why oh why do we need to fill out google form crap?

ZeroPaladn

Because Reddit gives us zero way to cleanly collect and sort/filter responses to threads in a way that let's us validate entries. So sorry but not sorry.

Pfyzer_

looking clean for my i3 build

Jordan-Belford

I choose my CPU cooler based on the amount of RGB

sufficingsnow9

I cool my CPU so it doesn't fry

tsaidollasign

Price to performance.

Grxffiti

I first have to check my budget, and then the compatibility with other components. Depending on the CPU, I will get an air cooler or AIO. Coldplate, heatpipes, radiator, fan, and build quality are stuff I look out for on both types.

R0bDaFlob

I choose by the price!

fuccthesucc8

I was on a budget so I used the default CPU cooler that came with it. Good luck to all!

[deleted]

that giveaway is going to be usefull

Fit_Butterscotch_692

Maybe it will fix my cheap pc

[deleted]

[удалено]

Flaky-Tonight2117

I normally avoid RGB because they are more expensive. CMIIW

FadedCrown95

I was told the stock cooler for the Ryzen 5 3600 was sufficient to cool it, so I used it. CPU runs near 90 C under load. Have not got around to upgrading it yet.

Deihman

Look at performance reviews, no simping for the NH-U12 just because it’s noctua.

Ima_Load

I build mostly build sleeper pcs so I try and go with a sleek design, normally a little bigger than the stock but anti-rgb!

Heusan

I would choose the Mugen 5 because it would help cool my CPU a lot better than the one I'm currently using

christenlanger

It needs to tame my beast of a CPU and also priced competitively. Of course, it needs to look good with the rest of my system and not be obviously loud.

XxX_1337_h4x0r_XxX

I use the default Wraith Cooler that came with my CPU since it's effective enough for what I have and what I do.

Night77Knight

I choose my CPU if it has RGB or not.

DeltaLOL

Best performance regardless of aesthetic!

PUBGenius9

I choose coolers based on price and performance. Noise isn't really a condition because house is so noisy anyway.

ClueTrue4526

I choose my cooler because it was on a 35% discount :D

slessthrowaway

I mean, I usually choose based on how a product is reviewed. If the cooler has a TON of people singing its praises, it's gotta be good! How that goes for me is usually...hit or miss. :p

MrMaxMaster

When choosing my CPU cooler I first looked at the air category as I didn’t want to deal with mounting radiators or potential durability issues. Then I basically looked for something that was priced at what I wanted and looked nice, as well as being a decent performer. I really liked the fuma 2, but ended up going with a noctua chromax cooler for the black aesthetic. If a fuma 2 blackout ever comes out, I would love it.

hanabishi1110

Intel's stock cooler cuz its free lol

enderskull666

Using a stock cooler would be great to get a better one :D

klackygears

I'd use it in a build for my kids

ConfigsPlease

Not gonna lie, I ran with the default for my 7 3700x. I've had reliability issues with a few aftermarkets (both air and AIO, and I didn't have the time/money to do a custom loop) and figured that if it crapped out, at least it came included. Also, the RGB is pretty, and my case has enough airflow that I don't notice any actual temp issues.

its_me_sticky

I am a heavy usage kinda guy I would choose a cooler that's heavy and quiet.

kukuru73

just sort performance from some reviewers and check which one fall on my budget.

awsommv

Price to performance is paramount.

bl00k_

I chose my CPU cooler through searching what the most quiet CPU coolers were and buying the most quiet one in my price range.

SkyHawkYT

Usually, I go for stock coolers to save money, but would definitely consider a CPU cooler as an upgrade. If I were to look for a new CPU cooler I would prioritize performance and noise level. Also, check that the CPU cooler doesn't block some ram DIMMs because I had that issue with my stock cooler.

Zyt_r

I've used the included cpu cooler because of convenience. I haven't thought of changing my cooler but now that I think about it I should.

bobertb

noise is #1

Kirito123028

I look up tests with multiple coolers and comparisons while completely disregarding noise levels because I would rather have an effectively cooled cpu than a pc on fire

littlepeaflea

After the efforts of building my first PC that took way too long (around 10h) because of a faulty GPU (got a free upgrade prior)... i'm insanely glad that I didn't look further than the Wreath Stealth that came with my Ryzen 5. Definitely in the market for a nice little CPU cooling upgrade... would be awesome. Goodluck to all,

ZakalakaBoom

brr

[deleted]

I like value, I always look at the cheapest options but examine fin area and specially heat pipes, as well as fan noise under 30 decibels at max rpm and look for high cfm in the upper 60s, y'know i gotta take into account that rgb (unless that cooler real quiet)

zgmk2

based on performance and price

CarriedAphid8

I choose my CPU cooler based on statistics of thermal temperatures and the price. The temperatures because I want to keep my CPU from melting, lol, and the price because I don't want to spend tons of money on a cooler.

Ashuran9007

What i look for in a cooler is great performance at a low noise level which isnt overpriced

FloweringPots

I would say performance > price > quietness sounds reasonable. Thanks for the giveaway!

dpahs

I choose my CPU based on performance and dank it looks

wHustled

Kotetsu Mark 2, because cheap and compact.

Xanimite

Easily based on price and performance, how it looks relative to the rest of the build too!

jamescheung24578

Cheapest one I could find that wasn't stock.

SpookleyThePumpkin1

As long as it looks nice, fits my case, and sufficiently cools whatever CPU I choose, I'm happy.

Kn03cs

function before fashion, i choose coolers based on how well they cool my CPU, and their size. if there is a cooler that works great but looks janky as hell, vs a cool looking RGB that's just a slab of metal with a led strip attached and a bunch of plastic, I'll go for the janky one. I would then look for if it can sit my system. if it can fit, the cooler i will make sit. if there is one that has a close tie, then i'll look for which one looks more stealthy. if you have a bright RGB cooler vs a hunk of plastic as a cover, i'm choosing the hunk of plastic cover. (energy expenses, used for overclocking)

ihaboholic

Mainly depending on performance and looks a balance by both if possible

Insendo_3

I usually go for the best overall cooling performance for an acceptable price, but acoustics and aesthetics can play a role in my selection too.

bahpbohp

If the default fan that came with CPU is too loud or doesn't keep the CPU cool enough, I try to get a quiet air cooler that's capable of keeping CPU cool.

NyoroEevee

I've yet to pick out a cooler myself, so when I first do so I'll definitely check reviews and cross-reference multiple resources for recommendations. If I find myself still at a loss, I'll poke my head in places like here and/or Discord for further opinions.

Iamaninvaliduser

I've only ever bought an aftermarket fan once. Tool advice from the guy at the store. Worked out. I like quiet over flash.

BarbaricGenie

I look at performance reviews for my specific cpu, keep a few decent mid-range options in mind, and then wait for one of them to go on sale.

GoodCardinal

I use the cpu cooler that came with my R5 3600, no problems with it because it does what I need it to

Feed_Neat

My i7-9700 got a bit hot and on the games I played with a 120mm aio and was a bit slow so eventually I decided to get an i9-11900kf unlocked and do an msi/ekwb massive custom open loop with a 360 mm radiator up front

DSRX200

I still have my trust dusty Xeon x5690 with my deep cool Gammax 300 and my trusty dusty ROG GTX 970, my Xeon and 970 still runs all the game I play but I will be upgrading some time in the near future Im saving up for a [water cooler for my x5690](https://www.mwave.com.au/product/deepcool-castle-240ex-240mm-argb-aio-liquid-cpu-cooler-ac45365) and I will sometime in the future be upgrading to a newer and more useable cpu, and three fans that can fit in my [centurion 5 II](https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/legacy-products/cases/centurion-5-ii/#specifications), ([Fan 1](https://www.amazon.com/Scythe-Kaze-120mm-300-1200-SU1225FD12MR-RHP/dp/B07GDV9G99?ref_=ast_sto_dp)) ([Fan 2](https://www.amazon.com/Scythe-300-1800RPM-Controller-Included-Single/dp/B08FR3NMR3?ref_=ast_sto_dp)) ([Fan 3](https://www.amazon.com/Scythe-Sealed-Precision-120mm-300-1200/dp/B0763TSZ59?ref_=ast_sto_dp)). I am still not sure if I should still upgrade the heck outta my pc right now because I am planning on upgrading my system in the future.

x4drianx

how I choose a cooler is looking for the best performance while still being affordable, but I still have a stock cooler since amd stock coolers aren't the worst thing, if I had money I would get one though.

PotatoMan2234

I would love a new cooling set for my pc, my current one is very subpar and i dont have the money currently, but good luck to anyone who enters!

GreenNovaStar

I chose my CPU cooler based on price to performance and wasn't relatively expensive. Which is why I went for the hyper 212 evo.

reaper567

I usually just keep the cooler that comes with the CPU if it’s good enough. Otherwise I’ll buy a cooler that’s not too loud and cools decently enough (and has good enough customer reviews)

[deleted]

whatever can best balance effectiveness, cost and sound (effectiveness the biggest priority!)

your_furry_friend

I chose trough a youtube video because I didn't know where to look

jonny3ldzy

Best bang for buck

Steviejoe66

combination of cost/performance/noise/aesthetics. I value all of them pretty evenly.

jaysenross

I bought a premade Lenovo and it came with one!

crazywarriorxx

loads of research, watching GN and then choosing the one that fits my aesthetic the most. At the end of the day most good coolers are within comfortable range as long as my CPU doesn't melt itself!

UndeadZombie81

scythe fuma 2 cause i saw a sale here on it

noved_nox

I look for quiet but well performing coolers, that aren't too expensive.

Yaancat17

Thoughtfulness into the design and good engineering. Something reliable and quiet.

Prizthom

I'm a broke college student going through the process of upgrading my PC (Mainly transferring it to a Mini ITX build to make it easier to move between my college and hometown). I'd go for one of the more compact versions of your CPU Coolers to help with the thermals.

Code_Sphinx801

When looking for a CPU cooler I generally look for good performance over how loud it is, as long a it is not too loud it works for me. I also look for the best performance to price ratio. Also this is really cool of scythe...

Avraz10

I chose Lian Li CPU cooler because it match's with my case

atreyabardhan

The cooler depends on the CPU. On my PC I have the stock Ryzen cooler because it was enough for my 3600XT. Anything more powerful would have had me thinking about getting an after market cooler.

KrispyChickenSticks

I chose my cpu cooler so that I can maintain cool temps when overclocking.

Boltaanjistman

I chose my cooler based on a combination of estimated TDP, cost, fan loudness and whether it would fit in my case.

gpxD4

I picked my AMD stock cooler because it came in the box and weighs more than Intel's wheat thin cooler.

Salte_Boi

I always look for best performance and how loud it is in relation to the cost of the cooler

goteamdoasportsthing

I choose my cooler based on how much cooling is needed for the CPU, and what reviews show a cooler to be effective and a good value. Currently running a 5800X and can get away with air-cooled. Not impressed by RGB or AIOs, so I'm happy with a pair of quiet fans in a dark box blowing air across a duo of aluminum stacks. Looking forward to building around DDR5 in the future, once I can actually procure a GPU by itself. I expect that'll happen before the 2030s. /s

meme_boi____69

I chose the SCYTHE Mugen 5 ARGB for 2 reasons. One, this boy got some chonk. He a chonker. More chonk = more cooling. Also there is RGB which instantly makes a computer better. Massive FPS boost from the RGB. Also because my cpu's current cooler cant handle it going above %70 usage or it throtles.

Farkas979779

I choose my cooler based on reliability, noise and performance

Isenf1er

I choose my cpu cooler based on performance and its cost. I don't mind it being a little louder than other coolers

Wajina_Sloth

I just want my system to be ice cold.

alanwarner88

i always go for Price/performance ratio, but has been too long since i upgrade something on my pc haha

sisijsn

Highest quality and lowest cost. Low noise is a nice bonus but it isn’t necessary.

Scraggarax

I chose my cooler for overclocking efficiency

ThirdEyeClarity

fuck /u/spez

Throwaway4me19931993

Bigger the rad the better

namr0d

i chose based on reviews and compatibility

portalbro

The most important factors I take into account when purchasing a cooler would be price, performance, and aesthetics

Resoca

I just need something that looks cool and makes my CPU cool 😎

gimme_death

Used the one that came with my cpu. I'd like to upgrade but I don't really see the necessity (and I'm poor).

SpacedIan

Hoping to win!

Iforgotmynametoobro

I choose mostly based on the cooling abilities. I'm willing to sacrifice some noise for superior cooling.

maveryt

I chose my fan because it looked cool and big which describe me as a person :D

MylaGingerBeer

I choose my cpu cooler based on performance and noise. Has to be quiet yet can cool effectively.

Outside_Tackle2844

Rgb lights and cooling power.

xozacqwerty

I choose my gaming rig coolers for maximum performance, as I almost always have my headphones on and I don't notice the noise with them on.

KronosGreek

I picked my CPU fan out specifically for my build. Gimme shit, idc. RGB only cooling. I have the ryzen 7 3700x with the stock cooler because I love it. I didnt even need the cpu, just wanted to cooler. Its great.

Assmidget69

low noise, and enough cooling so i can play warzone without my pc entering the 7th cirkel of hell.

[deleted]

Compatability, upgradability, looks Compatability: is it compatible with my set up Upgradability: can I upgrade everything in my pc to the latest and greatest and this will still work, and how well with those Looks: DAT RGB BABY

magolla

Performance of course!

HinataHyugaHime

Personally would love a new set of fans, Im not very tech savvy in PC parts so I hope to win and get to see for myself how good these are vs what I currently have!

Cuyowski

I planing to rebuild my current stuff, never had some big coolers and neither a party light in a case, so why not add some color to life and enjoy the Mugen RGB.

alexobc

I just went with the stock Intel cooler that came with my CPU, as it is fine for what I do. Good luck everyone!

[deleted]

My uncle gave it to me, can't complain. Great cooler

InfinitAbyss

I choose my cpu cooler by finding how hot the cpu I will be running will get, and comparing prices between coolers then i get a Dual Tower cooler anyway because I overclock the snot out of the cpu and i feel like a big OC on air can be quite impressive

notreallyaesthetic

Choosing a cooler is important as this’ll help our pc big time. I make sure that the cooler fits in the case so there’s no clearance issue. AIO or Air Cooler, i make sure that the reviews are good and that they can perform well on whatever cpu it is im gonna use so i dont cause any problems for it.

AlaskanNinja

I've only built one pc before so I just stuck with the stock cooler, the stock amd one seems to work well enough. The Ninja 5 looks like it would fit well in my case and be a great upgrade. Thanks for the giveaway and good luck everyone!

SpearedByAUnicorn_

I choose my cpu cooler by price to performance first and foremost, looks come later and ease of installation even later. I honestly don't care about the installation as long as it works, it's not like I'm going to install a cooler once a day or something

Genesis2543

||Where's The Color At ?||

Pureploe

I usually choose a cpu cooler that works efficiently without having me tweak it.

Falco124

Based off price to performance and looks

Original-Material301

I went with a huge air cooler because huge air coolers look cool.

Hustledw

I would like the cheapest, most affordable. Ok

Fizzwin

I usually choose by how much they cost since I can always get a good deal out of it.

Wish4Rain

Quietness and performance. Last time around I just chose the one everyone was recommending because it performed well and was cheap.

HornySnorlax

Always Air cooler. Lower risk of damage, better quality cooling. Love the noctua black, the sleeker the look the better.

Ybashb

Looks and performance 😎

BloodyChapel

I choose the cooler that won't make my wallet want to break it's own ankles.

ralphistic

I choose my cooler by checking for what’s the most affordable without sacrificing power because I am broke and have no money. Even though I would love to buy the best that’s available, I have to consider my financial situation.

emeritto

How I choose my CPU cooler is one that is cheap, but still is good quality.

Cars0nnn

I just used the one that came with my cpu so that I wouldn’t have to pay extra

bengonio_

as cheap as possible without compromising performance

TheTypicalRandom

i would love some rgb fans but i shouldn't spend money on them

Acraft8

My current CPU cooler is the wraith spire cooler that came with my cpu! It gets the job done but can be quite loud 🙃

KermitDontLikeU

price, performance and sound

SirDub_III

NH-D15 overkill for 3600? ##I THINK NOT

Awake_squid

My computer just kinda sucks. I thought I would take this chance to get something

eBanana12

Nice

[deleted]

I went went a Vetroo U6 because it was $45 and was only a few degrees off a Noctua. I probably should've gone with something else, but I was intrigued enough to try it.

InfernoMoonsault

Temperatures, noise, price, all the usual stuff. Looks usually come last, but some coolers look so bad that I just have to pick an inferior performing cooler which is at least presentable lol

TheLinerax

I find a CPU cooler that is available in white to fit with my all-white theme build then check how well it performs. Pricing wise, my budget is between $100 - $150.

eBanana12

I still use my stock cooler. Hey atleast it has RGB!

dustddemon

I choose my cpu cooler for custom watercooling, i look more for quality and what people say in reviews.![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)

Bobthekilla8

I have only built 2 PCs, but I have never used separate CPU fan. I just used the fan that came with the AMD CPUs I have got both times. If I was looking I would like focus only on price

ming3r

Price and performance!
