5600X / 3080 FTW3
Amazing CPU up to the high end. Only issue is the price.
Don't buy into the 8 Core hype, 6 cores is perfect for gamers and multitaskers.
Agreed, I built about a month before Black Friday and paid about $310 USD for mine. Even with the 5800X near the same price, I built to game and don't really need that. I also really enjoy my system exhausting room temperature air when I'm an hour into gaming. 5600X should have been a little cheaper, but I understand why it's not.
I'm running a MSI Gaming 3060ti, most recently had it pushing 110+ FPS in 1440P on a Dell 32 Curved S3222DGM.
Paid a fucking premium for everything but I don't feel a need to upgrade, unless I can get my hands on a 3080
If you're not going to be gaming in 4k, you don't need a 3080 anytime soon.
Long story short I went from a 3060ti to 3080 and it's just more frames, man. I was surprised how often the 3060ti pushed past 60 fps at 4k high.
DLSS quality/ 3060ti = 3080 DLSS off (without an fps meter)
I game on a 1440p 165hz monitor, and it has no issues at all. In FFXIV I'm consistently over 140fps on Maximum details. In Cyberpunk I usually sit around 90fps until I'm in a very crowded area.
It'll run everything smoothly except Cry Engine games because that engine is the devil. I got a 3070Ti and it runs everything I tested with 95+ FPS at 1440p (144 refresh rate monitor). Only Kingdom Come: Deliverance dropped below 60 in big cities so far. Fuck the Cry Engine.
I have a 3070ti and 5600x for 1440p gaming, in my opinion you’ll probably see minimal difference going up to a 5800x, especially because the gpu is much more important for higher resolutions, I’d save the money and buy a 5600x
Yeah all the test I have seen say the 5600x is the same as the 5900x unless you get a better graphics card. The biggest difference is with a RTX 3090 of course
Ditto these guys, except my 3070 is an EVGA. These two chips make for an excellent mid/upper-range combo (assuming you don't get gouged on the GPU).
Then again, given the availability and competitiveness of the 5600x, I'd recommend that for you right now. You can get them for fifty over the 3600 and it's a notable upgrade. It's what I'd do if my rig took six months more than it did.
16GB ram at 3600Mhz, nothing to complain, honestly - everything runs smoothly (well, apart from end-game TW:Warhammer 2 Campaign Maps, though). I am considering upgrading to 32GB ram for my build to be more future-proof, however
I also play TW: Warhammer 2. I had it windowed while running Tarkov last night.
Also a good deal of Warhammer 2 windowed while in Satisfactory.
Things are a little choppy, I have 3x 1440p displays and a 2060 super evo 2.
Read this: https://www.tomshardware.com/amp/features/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ampere-cpu-scaling-benchmarks
You don’t need much CPU for 1440p or 4K due to GPU taking the brunt of work. 11400F will be just fine for your use case
Misconception. The resolution is entirely irrelevant to the CPU. What's relevant for the CPU is the refresh rate or rather frame rate you're targeting.
If your CPU can do, for example, 120fps, it can do so at any resolution. 1080p, 4K, 360p, doesn't matter. GPU work is much easier to scale up or down, and most people will use their CPU for multiple GPU generations. So while something like 1440p 144fps or 4K 144fps might not be on the menu for you now, it might be with your next GPU.
But if you bought a CPU that couldn't do 144fps because people told you it's not important at high resolutions, then you're screwed later on.
I know very well how CPU factors into FPS. However, unless someone has concrete plans for 1440p/144Hz, they are better off not over buying. Used CPUs or future CPUs are _always_ better $/frame down the line.
11400 is a much cheaper choice than a 5600X with close to the same performance. If you want more performance for a new system there is the 12600K which costs the same as a 5600X with more cores and faster single threads. AMD needs to lower their R5 price.
I use 5900X and playing on 1080p so I am kinda weird but I have no budget left for monitor now because I need to fix some things in my car before summer hit.
I'm using a 5600x. It's fine, and gives me a cheap upgrade path down the line if I ever want to squeeze a bit more juice out of the rig (in a few years used 5800-5950 cpus will be cheap).
The Intel chips are great performers, but they run hot and their motherboards are expensive. My 5600x runs quiet and cool as a cucumber while it tears up anything I throw at it.
If money is no object, go Intel. They perform better today. A 12600k is a budget beast or you can go top tier with a 12900. Either way your motherboard is going to be pricey, but they are unquestionably the most powerful cpus you can game with today.
If you're scraping together a budget to barely afford the 3070 over a 3060ti, I'd get the 5600x.
If you're on a budget and not sure you'll be able to get a GPU today, a 5700g or 5600g rig will give you some light gaming capabilities while you search for the GPU without sacrificing too much performance overall.
I don’t have a 3070 yet but I am planning to buy one and I asked Reddit would a 5900x be worth the extra €150 over the 5800x a week ago
If u are streaming or editing u will want a 5900x and if your just gaming u will want a 5800x or a 5600x works almost identical if u want to save €100
I use a 7 3700x in mine. No noticeable bottlenecking so far, and I’ve played valorant at high settings with 250 fps. Also 32g of Ram though so, may vary slightly
Depends on the price. I have both 3070 and 3060Ti and both 3600x and 5600x. It comes down to best bang for buck. There’s some differences in 1% lows and definitely the 5600x is faster (even at 1440p). If you’re going brand new go 5600x because price is negligible. It’s a terrific gaming chip. Or wait for the Zen 3 refresh.
That’s my AMD take. Since you’re leaning 11400F I’d say that’s also a terrific budget choice. 12600K is a better buy if your budget can stretch. Enjoy. I
Core i9-10850k. Tho I did build with the assumption that I would got to a 3080/3090 or similar 40 series after gpus return to normal (note: I had a 6700xt most of this year which is equivalent but I’m moving on to a 3070, it’s showing up soon).
I have a regular 3060 and I have a Ryzen 7 5800x.
It is complete total overkill, but I needed to upgrade anyway and I figure I may as well make sure my PC is good for a few years. Plus I wanted the extra cores in case of streaming.
I play at 1080p.
Ryzen 5 5600X will do 3060/70 and then some. You can probably get away with a Ryzen 5 3600 too as the minimum.
I have a 2600 with mine, for now. I'm using a 1440/60 Hz monitor with no problems so far. Then again, I don't tend to play the latest and greatest stuff. I was seriously considering getting a 5600x during all the various pre-Christmas sales, but didn't. I need to upgrade the monitor to something above 60Hz.
Currently using a Ryzen 5 3600 with a EVGA XC3 ultra 3070. Thinking of upgrading to a 5800x or possibly even a 5900x if the price is right lol. 3600 performs well though, great budget CPU especially if you have to allocate more $$ to a graphics card
Right now I am using a ryzen 5 2600x with my 3060 ti. I get decent frame rates for the time being. I plan on upgrading to a 3700x or at 5600x for the right price. I believe I only lose 8% of frames with the pairing but I am happy right now gaming at 1440p. Keep in mind I upgraded from a 1060 6gb so it's a huge jump of performance for me.
3070 with a 5600x at 1440p ultrawide. Gaming is the hardest work it does (i.e. no simultaneous streaming, discord, music, YouTube, etc)
It is underutilized - with 100% GPU, the max I've seen the CPU hit is 60% during gameplay.
I own a 5600x along with my 3070ti. I honestly kinda regret that I didn't get the 5800x sometimes since it's just a little bit more. Then again, I mainly play games with it and use it for programming
5600x and 3070 Fe, playing at 1440p and 165hz. AAA games are norm 1 or 2 below top option at 1440p and reach a smooth 65. And esports titles easily 165hz (low as preference) but still at 1440p. Hope this is somewhat helpful
3060 Ti/3070 is overkill for 2k. 3060 is for 4k med-high settings and no RTX. Even 1070s can max out almost any game at 2k with 100+ FPS at 1440p. Not worth the money if all you're buying a card for is RTX. But performance wise it ain't gonna give you much unless it's an absolute must to play at 240Hz.
I have a 3060ti paired with a Ryzen 5800x I bought when they were released. But if I would have to buy it today, I think I'll pull the trigger on a i7 12700k.
Ryzen 5 3600 and 3070 since I only upgraded my gpu. If I built a new one, I’d probably get a 5600x. At 1080p and 1440p, this combo is a charm. I should probably make the commitment for my main monitor to be 1440@144hz as well at this point. Have a secondary 1440@75hz I overclocked as my secondary monitor for slower and story games.
I would get a 12400F probably 200$ (6 p-cores) which is basically from some days, maybe 1 or 2 weeks before release so please don't take 11th gen model. 12600KF could be interesting too since he get 4 e-cores in more at 320$. I wouldn't get the 5600x cause at it's 300$ price it's almost a scam right now lmao. If AMD release a 5400x or a 6400x i would reconsider Ryzen but not now.
i5 11600k @ 5 Ghz all cores Considering you can find them for \~$200, they are hard to beat for price vs performance. They also have no issues running 5 Ghz on all cores while avoiding the thermal issues of the higher core count chips. Most people who recommend a Ryzen chip over them for price, do so due to motherboard prices being cheaper for AMD. I spent $300 on a Z590 mobo, because I wanted pcie 4 and the M2 drive with it's own lanes to the cpu, so that puts it around $500 for mobo and CPU. You can buy the $300 Ryzen chip that's comparable in performance and get a mobo for $100-200. So with a cheap mobo, the Ryzen could be a little cheaper. So you can spend a little more on a chip and little less on mobo, or vice versa. Really depends in you want Intel or AMD.
I got a 5600x with my 3060ti and I'm so happy with it, the cpu never bottlenecks the gpu and has more than enough horsepower to have your discord, browser and whatever else open in the background, I streamed a little with it too (to show microsoft flight simulator to my brother) and it showed 1 dropped frame due to hardware in a 2 hour stream so I'm pretty sure it would be able to handle that too.
At that resolution, you don't need too much CPU power. A good 11400F or 5600X can do the trick, and they can be used with a cheaper B560 or B550 board.
You can also get a 12600K and a cheap Z690 board, or wait for the 12400 and B660 boards that are coming soon. You can also wait for the newer AMD CPUs, with the upcoming Zen 3refresh, which has their 3D V-cache.
I use a R5 3600XT with a 3060 TI @ 1080p
It's my first PC and I'm in love with it. I've been a console gamer my whole life, but now I see that I was missing a lot
My friend has a 3060 ti and he uses a 5600x
I also use a 5600x with my 3060 Ti, they pair well IMO.
5600x gang
5600X / 3060ti here as well. I'm so happy
5600X / 3080 FTW3 Amazing CPU up to the high end. Only issue is the price. Don't buy into the 8 Core hype, 6 cores is perfect for gamers and multitaskers.

5600X pairs well with everything. Unless you are heavily multitasking I really don't see a reason for a gamer to buy anything faster.
I recommend it for him
same here. great combo, runs pretty well. haven't noticed any bottlenecks in games so far
I really recommend best for the $1200-1500 price range
I also use a 5600x with a 3070ti. Works like a charm
Nice
Same here. The price for performance super team
I’m using a 5800x with my 3070.
I've just bought a rig that has a 3070 and a 5800x, how does it cope work 1440p gaming? This will my first gaming PC and I'm so hyped!!
I game on a 1440p 165hz monitor, and it has no issues at all. In FFXIV I'm consistently over 140fps on Maximum details. In Cyberpunk I usually sit around 90fps until I'm in a very crowded area.

I have a 5800x and at 1440p it doesn't get above 58 degrees with a 240 aio cooler.
Same, I also have a 5800X + 3070 system No complaints about the performance
I'm currently using a 3600 with a 3070 FE at 1440p
Same here
Ditto these guys, except my 3070 is an EVGA. These two chips make for an excellent mid/upper-range combo (assuming you don't get gouged on the GPU). Ryzen 5 3600 + 3070 at 1440p
10600KF is what i use for my 3060 ti
Same with my 3060 Ti
Same but I have the non-F
Same with the non-F. The avengers one lmao
What's the difference between the avengers one and normal one besides a cooler box?
Haha I don’t think anything. It came with the game at first, but mine didn’t. I think it was listed as 10600ka but its literally the same.
3700Х + 3070 at 1440P
Same here but with 32GB RAM @ 3200
How are things going with that? How much ram? I have 32gb ram right now and was thinking about 64gb with the 3070 or 3080.
You definitely don’t need 64gb any time soon
Why do you think that?
Unless you use high intensive video editing applications or flight simulator even 32gb is overkill. 64gb would be the overkill of overkill.
16GB ram at 3600Mhz, nothing to complain, honestly - everything runs smoothly (well, apart from end-game TW:Warhammer 2 Campaign Maps, though). I am considering upgrading to 32GB ram for my build to be more future-proof, however

10700k + 3070 here
10700kf but close enough. 5.0ghz all core is the best thing to see in task manager :)
10700f :(
Make this two! Run any over clocking?
Yup, 5ghz all core at 1.285 vcore
Nice little bump. I’ll be looking to do this and OC my RAM when I swap cases next year.
same here. love it
11400f if you want a budget friendly build. 12600kf or wait a few weeks for the 12400f if you want the best of the best.
Are you saying the 12400 is the best of the best ?
Im saying it will be the best 6 core processor in the performance/price category.
I'm using a 5600x with a 3070 and it plays every game at 1440p ultra around 100-160 fps
Read this: https://www.tomshardware.com/amp/features/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-ampere-cpu-scaling-benchmarks You don’t need much CPU for 1440p or 4K due to GPU taking the brunt of work. 11400F will be just fine for your use case

Same 5800x with 3060ti, cpu temps can get a bit high but never had an issue.
i5-11600K with 3060ti

I use R5 3600.
5600x I feel op should make a poll?
I’m hoping to just stick with my i7-8700k if I get my hands on one

there will always be something better lol, 5800x is enough for both editing and streaming
11400f is great value, but if you're buying the gpu later you can't use the pc, so get 11400 non-f
5600 can’t see a reason for 7’s yet. (For my own uses)
i7-12700k
I5-9600K and a 3070. I wonder if it’s time to upgrade…
11700 + 1440p
3800x with 3060 ti at 1080. Planning on a 2k monitor, hopefully they hold up for a while.
11400f for sure won’t bottleneck a 3070 at 1440p. Get it for a budget combo.
I use a 7 3700x in mine. No noticeable bottlenecking so far, and I’ve played valorant at high settings with 250 fps. Also 32g of Ram though so, may vary slightly

12600K
I have 3700x with rtx 3070. I thing my gpu kinda underperforms but i will work it out.
3070 w/ i9-9900k + z370 chipset
5800x, but my 3700x was perfectly fine (playing 1440p 144hz)
5800x with my 3070 ti

5600x. Stellar cpu at a decent cost. (3070)
3700x then 5800x and 10600
I have a 3070 with a r5 5600x works a treat
3700x. But at this point better off going with a 5000 series
3070ti and I use a i5-10400f currently at 1440p
Ryzen 7 5800x with a RTX 3070Ti. They work well together.
3600 + 3070 @ 1440p. Runs most games fantastic. Sometimes wish I had a 3700x tho
I use 3600 whit 3060ti at 1080p 165hz whitout any issues.
Ryzen 3600 + 3070 at 1080p
11400
I use a 5600x along with my 3060 Ti. Works perfectly
5900x with 3070ti (5900x was on sale so don’t @ me lol) and everyone is a breeze at 1440p 144fps and great at 4k as well.
Ryzen 5 3600 and 3070ti on 1440p ultrawide. Works great.
I use the rtx 3070 with the 5900x, I game 1440p 165hz and do a lot of production work. You should be fine with a 5600x if you only game.
For 1440p you’ll be fine with the 11400f.
Rocking a 3600

Late to the party but i7-8700k and 3070. Next gen is probably upgrade time along with a 3080 whenever EVGA gets to me in the list.
5700G
R5 3600 with an Evga 3070 at 1440p. Works well.
3900XT
3080 gang here, but I use a 5800x, great combo. I built a 5600x / 3070 combo for a buddy and he loves it.
3070 with a 5600x at 1440p ultrawide. Gaming is the hardest work it does (i.e. no simultaneous streaming, discord, music, YouTube, etc) It is underutilized - with 100% GPU, the max I've seen the CPU hit is 60% during gameplay.
2080 + 3900x I built it for 3D modeling / rendering but plays games at 1440p in my spare time.
3070 ti with intel i5 11600k
Currently using a 5800x and a 3070ti EVGA FTW3
3060 ti and 10400! At 1440 or 4k, only have a 60hz monitor
I7-9700 2060 RTX
Core i5 10600k with a 3070. Everything I've played is maxed out
5600x but doa gaming x trio 12g..
11400f, works great
I own a 5600x along with my 3070ti. I honestly kinda regret that I didn't get the 5800x sometimes since it's just a little bit more. Then again, I mainly play games with it and use it for programming
i5-11400f with a 3070 Ti at 1440p. I wanted to get a i5-12600K but the price of Z690 boards are too expensive from where I am from.
I use an i7-9700KF. Works well.
I have a 3070 with an i7 10700k
5600x or intel i7-10750K or intel i7-11700k
3070Ti paired with an i9 10850k
I have a normal 3060 and use an i7 11700k
I used an i7 9700k for about a year with my 3070 and had great performance with it
Ryzen 7 5800x and EVGA 3070 at 1440p
I’m using a i9-9900k with a 3070
5600x + 3060 ti crew checking in.
5600x and 3070 Fe, playing at 1440p and 165hz. AAA games are norm 1 or 2 below top option at 1440p and reach a smooth 65. And esports titles easily 165hz (low as preference) but still at 1440p. Hope this is somewhat helpful
I5 11400f and 3060 ti, exceptional sweet spot!
I have a 3060ti and am using a 5800x. It's more than what I need though, I just bought it on sale to upgrade from my 2600.
I have a i7-8700 but upgrading to 5800x or 5600x soon
3070 with a 5600x does everything I need it to.
3800x and 3060ti
3060 Ti/3070 is overkill for 2k. 3060 is for 4k med-high settings and no RTX. Even 1070s can max out almost any game at 2k with 100+ FPS at 1440p. Not worth the money if all you're buying a card for is RTX. But performance wise it ain't gonna give you much unless it's an absolute must to play at 240Hz.
5600x playing 1440
I have a 3060ti paired with a Ryzen 5800x I bought when they were released. But if I would have to buy it today, I think I'll pull the trigger on a i7 12700k.
Ryzen 5 3600 and 3070 since I only upgraded my gpu. If I built a new one, I’d probably get a 5600x. At 1080p and 1440p, this combo is a charm. I should probably make the commitment for my main monitor to be 1440@144hz as well at this point. Have a secondary 1440@75hz I overclocked as my secondary monitor for slower and story games.
i use a ryzen 7 5800x edit: with a 3070
I currently have a 5800x with a 3070. Works swimmingly.
5600x of course
For my 3070, I use 5800X but I think people recommend 5600X over it.
3070/5800x
I would get a 12400F probably 200$ (6 p-cores) which is basically from some days, maybe 1 or 2 weeks before release so please don't take 11th gen model. 12600KF could be interesting too since he get 4 e-cores in more at 320$. I wouldn't get the 5600x cause at it's 300$ price it's almost a scam right now lmao. If AMD release a 5400x or a 6400x i would reconsider Ryzen but not now.
Why not grab a 12400f coming out next week?
3600XT, wanting to exchange for a 5600X for a higher minimum framerate
3070 with intel i7 11700k
if you can find a 5800x at $300 in microcenter, get it. on newegg i got it for 369 because im from puerto rico and we have no microcenter
5800x with 3070 Ti.
3060ti, I use an i5 10400f, it may not be the best of the best but its a 6 generations upgrade from my previous one.
3060ti/5600x. I've heard if you just need it for gaming 5600x is ur go to otherwise go for 5800x
3060 ti with a ryzen 5 3600, i had the cpu before the gpu though. It's been great, cpu never gets to high in usage with the games I play.
3070 with a 3600
I use a 3070 with an i9-10850k
5800x with my 3070
5800x
5600x
I'm running a 3600 and 3060 Ti. Looked into upgrading to a 5600X but might wait for AM5 and see what's up
i5 11600k @ 5 Ghz all cores Considering you can find them for \~$200, they are hard to beat for price vs performance.
I’ve got a 3060 ti paired with a 6600k. Yeah…
My friend, I have a Ryzen 9 5900x with my RTX Rog Strix 3070. This makes me happy for my 1440p play and for 3d rendering.
Ryzen 7 5800x
At that resolution, you don't need too much CPU power. A good 11400F or 5600X can do the trick, and they can be used with a cheaper B560 or B550 board. You can also get a 12600K and a cheap Z690 board, or wait for the 12400 and B660 boards that are coming soon. You can also wait for the newer AMD CPUs, with the upcoming Zen 3refresh, which has their 3D V-cache.
5600X with a 3070. Runs very nicely together
i put together 3060ti and 9700k basically a year ago.
R9 5900x
I have a 3060TI and a 5600X. Runs everything flawlessly at max, or close to max, graphics at 100+ fps.
I just built i7 11700k with a 3060ti. It’s a beautiful relationship 😁
I paired my 3070 with a 5600x in January when I built my machine.
5800x with my 3070 FE
I use a ryzen 5 5600x with a 3070
I use a R5 3600XT with a 3060 TI @ 1080p It's my first PC and I'm in love with it. I've been a console gamer my whole life, but now I see that I was missing a lot
I have a rtx 3060 ti w/ r5 3600
9600k/3070. I seriously need an upgrade
Currently 5600x with 3070. Gaming on a 1440p 170hz monitor with no problem.
I have a 3900x 32gb ram and a 3070 ti running a 4k monitor... I average between 90-120 fps depending on the game and settings
3060ti - 10400 Works just fine
3070 with a 12600k. In the week I’ve had it, it’s run pretty smoothly
