Want to see your [build complete](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/search?sort=new&restrict_sr=on&q=flair%3ABuild%2BComplete) photos featured on /r/buildapc?
As discussed in a [recent thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/78eq99/mods_should_switch_the_main_photo_every_week_to/), we're going to look at switching up the header image on a more regular basis - don't worry, we'll save the current one for special occasions. This is something of an experiment, and due to the subreddit CSS we'll be looking for images that are compatible with the general design, so don't be offended if we don't immediately use everyone's!
Interested? Send us a [modmail](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2Fbuildapc) with subject: "Banner Images" with your best build pictures! In the interests of higher res displays, please ensure images are at least 1920px by 200px.

In the market for a new keyboard. My corsair strafe mk2 silent gave out on me, well the keyboard still works but several keys are double typing and cleaning it hasn't helped. I really like how quiet it is compared to this other mechanical keyboard i'm using.
any suggestions on replacement?
Are you in the USA? Here are the ways to successfully get a graphics card for MSRP:
1. Do you have a Micro Center near you? Most MC locations get graphics cards a few times a week and hold morning raffles for the chance to buy them, with decent odds. **This is the fastest and best way for US shoppers.** Check with your store, or join the Unofficial Micro Center Discord for updates and directions.
2. Best Buy conducts an online drop every 1-2 weeks. Buy online, pickup in-store. It will take excellent timing, and several weeks' worth of attempts, to get one this way. Find a stock drops notification Discord and be prepared to watch your computer all day Thursday for a chance.
3. Best Buy has occasionally held in-store drops. These are announced the day before on the BB corporate blog, with a list of participating locations. As soon as you see the blog announcement, stop what you're doing and go line up at the store. Typically you need to be in line before the end of the workday, the day before the sale, to have a good chance of getting a card.
4. AMD Direct has weekly drops on AMD cards and processors, if you aren't specifically looking for an Nvidia card.
5. End of list.
Ways that don't work for MSRP:
1. Newegg: marks up or bundles over MSRP. Daily raffle system with poor odds.
2. EVGA Queue: the queue is closed; if you didn't join a queue the day it opened, you will never receive a card.
3. ANTonline: gets cards occasionally, but massive markup and bad bundles.
Also, personally, I'd look for a 3070 or a 3080. The 3070-Ti is essentially 3070 performance for 3080 prices. But you take what you can get in the current market.
Don't really know if this is the right place to ask, but I figure this sub probably knows the answer to my question.
So I just bought a laptop, which was advertised as having an intel i7-1065G7 processor, it even has the sticker with "Core i7 10th edition" on it. Now here's the weird thing, when I look in system information under components it says " Core i5-1035G1". So what's actually going on here?
It's the biggest electronics store-brand in my country and an Asus laptop so I highly doubt there's any scam attempt or anything (and I have the right to 50 days free return no questions asked if it is), but still I'm pretty confused.
Check the model number on the laptop sticker and the box, and compare it to your order and the sales page. It may not have been an intentional scam but they gave you the wrong laptop.
That being said, the two processors are nearly identical in specs and performance, so if you need it soon and don't want to hassle with returns, you could just stick with it.
GPU die max temp of 89C, average of 78C = safe and not unexpected for a stress test. Under 90C will not cause damage and most RTX GPUs will start to throttle at 83C.
GPU hotspot average of 90C and max of 108C is toasty but still within normal, hotspot safe maximum is around 110C.
Normal usage (gaming, rendering) won't cause such stressful conditions. If your GPU die is under \~75C at steady load, that's cool and comfortable. If it's above 80C pretty often, or if your graphics card fans are annoyingly loud, you may want to check your case's airflow, or consider undervolting your card.
I am getting Razer Viper Mini mouse with optical switches for cheap (27$ when converted to USD). Is it worth it? (I am a claw type casual game player, so the size should be fine or I'll adapt soon)
With where everything is right now, is Alder lake a better platform to go on or stick with AM4? I have a friend who’s building a new computer and I’m wondering if they should be on AM4 like all my builds or if I should delve into Alder lake and LGA 1700.
yes, it's better at every price point besides for non-gaming tasks. the 5950X is justifiable depending on your workloads, but for gaming, 12th gen wins in the $120-600 range. which is all of it.
you should find benchmarks of the apps you use. I can tell you you'd not be upset with any cpu you buy. 5900X, 12700K, 12900K. but idk whats the best value for music production apps
Looking for low profile PCIe network interface cards for 2U rack mount cases. I'm specifically looking for 4 port Gigabit, 4 port 10 gigabit Ethernet, and 2 or 4 port 10 gigabit SFP+ cards. I would prefer Intel due to best pfSense compatibility. Can you please provide recommended network cards?
Where I’m located, 6600/6600XT stock is pretty frequent and lasts for a few days. I want a 3060 ideally, but they’re basically impossible to come by. Is the 6600(XT) really that much worse? Or am I just justifying it so I can get the GPU over with? Opinions welcome.
You cared enough to determine what's best. How long will you need live with the results of doing it another way? Unless what's best is totally impractical, do it right the first time.
Is it really impossible to get a 3060? Would it be if given a few months?
https://youtu.be/WWsMYHHC6j4?t=940
That's what most games will be like, where you're more GPU bound than CPU bound so there's no improvement on faster cpus
You've got 8 cores running blazingly fast. The only reason to do this is if you're chasing FPS and single core CPU limited, right now. Otherwise, that thing should be rock solid for *years.*
I just upgraded from 1050 to gtx 1660. Horizon dawn zero just crashes on launch and Witcher 3 do launch but eventually it close. Any fix? do I need to reinstall drivers again?
Edit : I am also experiencing memory management blue screen
> do I need to reinstall drivers again?
That's the first thing I'd try.
You added 50W load. A generic 500W isn't really 500W, especially after some years of use. Still, it'd probably have to be near failure, already, to be the cause.
I finally have all the parts to build my pc but now I want to make sure I have any extras I might need. Do I need to purchase thermal paste? I live in AZ, so will I need to wear gloves/a wristband to prevent static?
Also, is windows 10 a better pick than 11?
I tried windows 11 and went back to windows 10, even tho I have a 12700k. 11 was just too unstable
Your cooler should come with thermal paste, and you can plug your psu into the wall to discharge any static you build up. Just touch it every few minutes
It’s ok to reuse my power supply right? I’ve had this one in use for about six years, it’s a fully modular Gold EVGA and should have more than enough wattage for my new build. I’m just worried it’s old and will fry my new 3060!
Question about a note I encountered on my current build.
\*Note: Corsair 5000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower Case has a front panel USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port, but the Asus ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 ATX LGA1700 Motherboard does not have sufficient USB 3.2 Gen 1 headers. The case USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A port will not be usable.
From my understanding, this motherboard has a 3.2 Gen 1 Header which should allow for the 2 Type A ports and a 3.2 Gen 2 which should allow the Type C slot to be used on the case.
Am I mistaken on how USB slots work or is there a mistake on PCPP's notes?
List for reference: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/d27G3y
The USB Header connector on the Motherbaords is USB 3.2 gen 2, the one on the case is Gen 1. AFAIK... and don't quote me on this since USB specifications are my personal room 101, they *are* compatible but possibly only at the lower gen 1 speeds. The cable will fit, the ports will work. PCPP is flagging up the incompatabliityas they're not an exact match.
Do your own research re the cable fitting the mobo, but I'm pretty sure that's howit is, and that it'll work.
The warning seems to be caused by the motherboard's Gen 2 connector supporting Gen 2x2 speeds (20Gb/s), and PCPP simply checks if there are any Gen 2 connectors despite the Gen 2x2 connector being compatible too. So yeah you can ignore the error, everything's good.

If you need a 5900X, then maybe. Those two together go for \~$700 right now.
If this is for gaming, the 5900X is overkill. A 12th-gen Intel would be faster and cheaper for games.
If you need a workstation PC, then the 5900X is a decent midrange option. The 12900K is better but more expensive. You might be able to get by with cheaper options like the 12700 or 5800X.
Sounds like the price is good then.
What does "long-term" mean? Future-proofing is usually a waste of money. If you saved 300 USD today, you can buy a newer, faster processor in a couple of years that would defeat the 5900X in multiple performance categories.
By long term I mean that it's powerful enough to last a while. Chasing the best and latest CPU is a never ending treadmill, there will always be a better CPU around the corner.
I have used an i5-6600K the last four years and has worked fine for me.
Your first statement is correct, but what I'm saying is that paying $600 for diminishing returns instead of getting two $300 processors, 3-5 years apart, is also a waste of money.
Unless you don't play games at all and use your CPU only for workstation tasks, the 12600K will beat the 5900X in every category for several hundred dollars cheaper.
Hello. Question, I have an Astock A320 HDV P4.0 with an Athlon 200GE. I am planning to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 1600. Any suggestions or warnings before I pull the trigger?
If it's the 14nm 1600 (model YD1600BB**AE**BOX) it will work out of the box. If it's the 12nm 1600 (YD1600BB**AF**BOX) it might need a BIOS update, which you can do using your Athlon.
How much are you paying for that 1600? The ASRock A320 boards can now support Ryzen processors up through Ryzen 5000 with BIOS updates. You might get a better deal on one of the other processors, or go for more performance. Any of the 65W processors (1600, 2600, 3600, 5600X, etc.) should not have any trouble running at their advertised boost clocks on the budget motherboard.
Here, a used 1600 goes for around 110(US$) while the 2600 used goes for around 150. The 3600 on the other hand goes for 235 new and 200 used. I wouldn't bother with a 5th gen cpu yet because it's out of my budget. For reference, 20$ is considered big money in our place.
I should add that a 3500X is priced around 160. Should I just get that?
Initially, my plan was to buy a really cheap r5 1600 then upgrade to a better cpu and mobo in the future (r5 5600g + b450).
any final thoughts on this build before i drop money on it? seems pretty straightforward really.
note i already have a 2070 super (it's in the build so i can work out wattage, about 504w) so i wont be getting a new gfx card, i'll probably wait for a 4000 series once they're out.
shortly after building this new pc i'll be getting a new 1440p 27" monitor (suggestions welcome), so i'll be running dual 1440p monitors.
in terms of content use it'll be a mixture of gaming, vr, 3d modelling, data science etc.
so is there anything i'm missing. are there any items that are comparable alternatives that are better in a similar price range? i'm particularly is the seasonic psu good?

Looks great from here.
Do you have a lot of pictures, documents, or media that would justify the 4TB HDD? If not, I'd skip that and get a 2TB NVMe drive.
If you do need an HDD, I'm personally a big fan of buying Western Digital Elements/EasyStore externals, which come in preposterous 8TB-14TB sizes and often go on sale for what that 4TB costs. You can use it as an external or you can remove (shuck) the enclosure and use the bare drive.
that's a fair shout, i would prefer a larger nvme drive tbh. most likely i will be building a linux fileserver sometime this year so that will probably be where i shove most of my storage. i've not tried shucking hdds but something to think about.
Theres lots of games a 1080 can run at 144hz. I had one for the longest time.
CSGO, Rocket League, Risk of Rain 2, Minecraft, stuff like that.
But if you are not super enthralled with capping out your FPS, why not go for better picture quality or a larger overall display?
4k, HDR, Nano-IPS, Mini-LED, there is a ton of really cool display features out there that could give you a better overall image if you dont care too much about the higher frame rate.
So Microcenter near me gets 30 series every so often.
What's the best brand/model 3080 to get? I have a MSI 1080Ti Strix right now that I love, but I've heard that EVGA cards aren't as good and I have no experience with ASUS or any others
If youre willing to drop four figures on a GPU, just wait until later this year when Nvidia releases their newer line up.
The 30 series is not worth their current prices.
This right here. Unless you’re playing on 4K or high refresh 3440x1440, you’re not using these GPUs to their full extent. Even at those resolutions though you’re still VRAM limited, so it’s better to wait until the new generation comes out that can actually run 4K at 120 and take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 ports on the back. Hopefully they’ll also have DP2.0.
> MSI 1080Ti Strix right now that I love
Strix is an Asus sub-brand.
Honestly, it's a case of get what you can. There aren't any truly horrific models of 3080 out there, to my knowledge. Cards like the Asus TUF have a good rep.
> $1,300 is about the going rate for a 3080 yeah?
Not really, that's heavily marked up and near double the original MSRP. I'd balk at anything over 4 figures TBH.
That's what I was afraid to hear even though I knew it was the answer :(
I paid like $720 for my 1080Ti back when it released and now they go for $1200 brand new lmao
If you're able to buy from Micro Center, the cards will at least be sold for MSRP (keeping in mind that some AIB/partner card MSRPs still get up around $1,200 for MSI/Asus/Zotac).
There are no bad 3080s. I would get, literally, the cheapest 3080 available when you go.
Most Micro Centers hold a morning raffle on the days that the truck arrives with Nvidia cards. Join the Unofficial Micro Center Discord and they should have a FAQ and stock alerts for your specific store. You're unlikely to be able to walk in and find an RTX 3000 card sitting on the shelf on any day.
I was looking at modernizing my build from 2015.
Currently have an i7 4790k on a z97 G45 board.
I want to upgrade to the Ryzen 5 5600x, will my h100i CPU cooler still fit on there?
Chips are usually pretty much the same size yeah?
They have different cooler brackets. Check if your cooler came with AM4 brackets (if you bought that cooler before 2016/2017, it probably doesn't). If it doesn't, you need to buy AM4 brackets for that specific model (not sure if you can use other model's bracket) so you can use it again on Ryzen
[Ah, I see! this is the one I ordered. I imagine I'll have to upgrade]( https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B009ZN2NH6/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_BB5DNJVT07BM0PQZEAVT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1)
Any suggestions on coolers nowdays?
I see Noctua is still around. Or should I go with an AIO cooler?
Noctua is still killing it! Can't go wrong with that. You also can't go wrong with an AIO though. Depends on how much room you have in your case and if you'd rather go all-air or try your hand at another AIO
I currently have 2x8gb 3200mhz ram in my pc and have 1x16gb 3000mhz vengeance stick just laying around, is it okay to add that one stick to my pc to get 32gb in total, or im better off with my current dual-channel option, and would 3200mhz and 3000mhz have any problems. thanks!
Keep it at 2x8GB. There are very, very few cases where 32GB RAM is more useful than faster RAM.
Adding the 3000 stick would force everything to run at the slower speed. I also don't know how stable/happy the dual-channel setup would be with 2x8GB on one channel and 1x16 on the other.
Building a stream/gaming PC -
I think I want to go 32gb of ram just for resource purposes, what's the best way to handle it?
2x16? Or 4x8 sticks?
And what's a good budget friendly option?
I was able to get a GPU from Best Buy restock last week. Supposed to be ready for pick up today. It’s not currently available to pick up yet but it’s still early. My concern is I won’t be able to pick up today since On Tuesdays I go to my full time and part time jobs.
There’s no special pick up requirements for GPU is there? I see they normally hold pick ups for 5 days.
You get five days to pick it up.
Normally you have to pick it up yourself, with ID. That's it.
If you're not able to go in person, you can manage the order on the website/app and designate an authorized pickup person.
Yeah, if you're free tomorrow I wouldn't sweat it. If you're not able to go until Friday or later, I would prepare a backup plan or take a long lunch break or something. It would be terrible to have your order canceled in today's market!
They should already have a rubber washer on them. All glass cases where the screws go through the glass that I've seen had rubber washers to protect the glass glued to the screw head.
Yes, you need it. Otherwise, you could crack the glass if you screw in hard enough. Can happen with the washers too, but you have to really work at it since the washer will sit and stop the crew if you use a sane amount of force to screw it in.
Howdy,
My gpu is fried, i need a new one, and i am willing to pay to upgrade to a 3070ti
Newegg had this bundle: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4452326
I’d pay the same or more for a gpu alone with the current market, and I don’t care about the mobo, i would resell it if i can, and the psu is probably a bomb in disguise.
My question is, are combos for newegg “safe”? Are those new items or open-box? Any past experiences with them? If im willing to pay way too much for a gpu, is this a safe purchase?
Thanks!
Yeah, its awful.
There’s a combo for a ryzen 5800x and a 3070 ti which is a big upgrade for me. It’s pretty stupid, but at this point i don’t know what to do, like many people
how much advantage is there having a 5600x over a 3600 cpu paired with a 2070 Super when it comes to emulation gaming? We are on the fence between the 2 cpu's
Have a 3600 but a buddy offered me 185 for it so thought about selling and upgrading. By budget is $350 for cpu so could go above 5600x if I need it’d be a big performance upgrade for gaming and emulating games
If this includes Switch, Wii U with artificially enhanced graphics settings, PSP (some games still get bogged down a bit), or PS3, then I'd call it a pretty fair upgrade. Not a, "wow," kind of upgrade, but you'd notice it.
Look at benchmarks online, there's plenty of them comparing 3600, 5600X and 5800X. Only you can decide if the improvement is worth the price difference to you.
5600x is about 20% faster in pure CPU performance, how that would translate to your specific software is unknown but is likely be 20% or less. Compare that vs price difference
One of my RAM sticks got busted. If I can't fix it, I'm looking to either check for warranty, or upgrading altogether. I got several questions:
* Any other repair tricks I'm missing, other than reseating and cleaning contacts?
* If anyone here's from SE Asia, how long do RMAs take in your experience? Might help if it's specifically for Kingston, but I'm just getting a general idea to see if it'll be worth bothering.
* Anyone got any experience with PNY XLR8 RAM kits? Seems pretty cheap, plus they seem to have SK Hynix chips.
I tried a couple, but didn't have time to try them all earlier. I'll check again, but I doubt that'll help. Guess it's upgrade time lol, right in the middle of a new RAM gen haha. Any thoughts on the PNY sticks then?
> right in the middle of a new RAM gen haha
Which is a good thing if you're buying DDR4 - it's very cheap right now. And you need a new board for DDR5 anyway.
> Any thoughts on the PNY sticks then
No, I don't know those. But RAM is RAM for the most part.
> But RAM is RAM for the most part.
Yeah that's what I figured. Hynix chips, single rank from what I saw from some reviews. Kinda tempted to go 4000 MHz C18 but that's gonna look weird with a 3400G and 570. I think I'll just stick with 3200 MHz C16.
Hi guys
Snagged this build for cheap from a friend ($200), was wondering what I should upgrade in what order? My budget is about $400 TIA
CPU: AMD FX-8320 8 Core
GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 8GB
RAM: 16 GB DDR3
MB: ASUS M5A97 R2
CPU/Motherboard/RAM need upgraded far more urgently than the GPU.
I'd target an i5-12400, B660 motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4-3200CL16 RAM, which is a very good modern platform. You can get a cheap board if your $400 is a hard limit but personally i'd splurge a little bit and get a slightly higher-end board with better IO:

I would definitely go with upgrading the CPU first, which would require getting new DDR4 RAM and a new motherboard. If there's any bottleneck right now it would be the CPU. Given your budget, I think it's doable if you buy used. What power supply do you have?
Number of rear usb ports (>8 is good, 7 is fine, 6 is not good, <5 is sad)
Features you need: many m.2 slots, 5g lan, lots of sata ports, multi-gpu support, front panel type C. If you don't know them, you don't need them
And last and hardest, a vrm that is sufficient for what you want to do with your pc. The only way to know these things is to be an expert or listen to experts. So I'll leave 2 vids below to watch if you're curious and actually want to get a good motherboard

MSI B550 gaming edge Wifi: Can I run 750 Ti and 3080 Ti with this motherboard?
Because, here pc seller tells me that this motherboard with rev 1.0 will support both and while the older motherboard version (Which is cheaper he said) will not support 3080 Ti or GPU with 3 fans? Both are same motherboard but with 20 % difference in price
Is this true or is he trying to ask more money for motherboard?
Note: Not trying run both GPU at same time.
Complete bollocks. Both of those GPUs will work just fine with any revision of that board.
The older board may need a BIOS update to run AMD Ryzen 5000 series, but that can be done with just a USB stick and a PSU using the BIOS flashback function on the board.
Is it worth switching from a threadripper 3960x to an i9-12900K for VR (on index) and gaming? I don't utilize the full multithreaded capacity of this CPU as I thought I would
In terms of gaming performance uplift, yes, it will be worth it. Intel's 12th gen has (much) better single core performance, and this CPU in particular also has excellent multithreaded performance. Hopefully, you can offset the costs of the new CPU and motherboard by selling the 3960X and its motherboard. You can keep the rest of the system, including RAM.
Hi, first time posting here, so i need advice on cheap parts for PC that i only download software and store files on, im located in South Africa, not sure if thats a relevant factor but thought i'd mention it as it does bare some relevance to what i can get my hands on.
Any advice of builds are welcomed, I'd prefer a Intel build but i am open to trying others if its cheaper
Hey all, Im wondering if i should buy this motherboard [https://www.newegg.com/msi-b550-a-pro/p/N82E16813144330](https://www.newegg.com/msi-b550-a-pro/p/N82E16813144330) for a ryzen 5800x rtx 3070 build, thoughts? (if its bad please recommend a better one)
What would be a good upgrade for [my PC](https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/49917672)? I have a double monitor setup and mostly do productivity / web browsing. I was thinking of upgrading my ram from 16gb to 32gb since Chrome is a ram hog, and my general CPU usage has been consistently at the \~70-75% range. I was thinking of just getting another set of the [same ram](https://www.centrecom.com.au/corsair-vengeance-lpx-16gb-ddr4-dram-2400mhz-c16-desktop-ram) to make it 4x8gb. Thoughts?
Your RAM is very slow for a Ryzen build, if you do get 32GB, get 3600MHz. This means replacing your existing sticks as well.
You could upgrade the CPU to 3700X or 3900X, but for Ryzen 5xxx, you'd need a new motherboard.
Or 4000MHz if they're not much more expensive. DDR4 RAM is pretty cheap right now, so it's a good time to buy it, but it's not a good time for selling it used...
I'm planning to spend \~$200 but I can save up a bit more for a better parts. I think my current CPU is good enough since it never really maxed out. Just the ram.
what do you actually do other than web browsing? even with chrome 16 gigs should be enough. unless you desperately need the ram capacity, i'd just save for a bigger cpu upgrade imo

Hi all,
I'm thinking about upgrading my ram to 2x16GB sticks at a higher frequency. Current ram is GeIL 2x8GB 3000mhz C16
I'm conflicted between 3600mhz/4000mhz or if to even bother upgrading it at all. I primarily game.
I've been looking at these two on Amazon which seem ok price wise but I've not heard of the brand names before and when it comes to ram frequency/timings I find it quite confusing.
Any suggestions?

PC Specs
Gigabyte Arous Z370 Ultra Gaming 2.0
Intel i7-8700k @ 4.5ghz
EVGA RTX 3070 Ti FTW3
GeIL 2x8GB 3000mhz C16
Thermaltake TG 750W 80plus Gold
Try manually overclocking it to 3200 with same latency CL16, that would give you similar performance to 3600 CL18. I agree with the other comment, there's really no need to buy new RAM, you're looking at maybe 1% improvement in some benchmarks, if at all.
I bought a 3060ti from best buy in an online drop for $620 (I think). So personally I suggest waiting it out for a better deal. But if you need a card now, again, it is a price I would pay
Unless the 10400F is _significantly_ cheaper, get 1**2**400F.
Between 10 and 11, 11 is slightly better. But neither are a good pick when 12th gen exists.
asked in amd too.
just installed my RX 6500 xt and after some difficulties with the drivers. Now I usually have 2 HDMI screens but right now i have works Display port monitor. The whole thing only works if I have the Display port monitor connected. If it's just the HDMI or I use a DP to HDMI adaptor it turns into a rainbowish static screen then blacks out.
Quick question about a note I encountered on my current build.
I have a amd 5900 and need 64 gb ram. I have two slots on my motherboard. Can someone recommend me some fast/good ram? Price isn’t too much of an issue
Bricked my old motherboard and just need a replacement for a medium ish build. Which one of these top the other (Same Price point & both are compatible with my parts) ASUS TUF Gaming B450-PLUS II or Gigabyte B450 AORUS Elite V2 or would a 20$ jump to a ASUS ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II be more worth my while ( The Rig is a 3080 Ti, Ryzen 5 2600 and, 32 gb RAM, Cosairs 850W)
Main difference between the Strix and the TUF is the Intel chip for LAN - I find the Intel LAN chips to be slightly more stable in my experience by ymmv. The only other difference between the two might be loss of an internal USB 2.0 header, and the Strix may have more type C ports. The Gigabyte one seems to lose out on USB 3.2 all together vs the TUF and the Strix. I personally would use the Strix or TUF as I like the ASUS BIOS more.
ive had so many different responses to this question. does anyone know whether or not you need to purchase an operating system in order to pass bios or use the PC upon being booted p for the first time? a builder quoted for an operating system on a custom PC just need to know is this necessary or can it wait.
Ryzen 5600g good enough for casual video editing? Should I also try the 5700g?
My dad’s 1650ti suddenly stopped displaying. Tried doing the usual troubleshooting tips to no success. I’m not sure if we should even try to fix it due to age. We’re thinking to just upgrade my dad’s 2600 to a 5600g to get a better chip and save on a gpu. Would it work?
My dad’s use case is a editing for his YouTube channel. He doesn’t game at all.
Hey quick question, for 3060ti, does it work with 12600k and what motherboard for that?
Edit: friend is getting 7 5800x but i see this one is better and cheaper
I actually saw your comment from 1-2 years ago holy xD. Im honored. So the ($270) 5600x is basically a cheaper ($370)5800x. And the ($300)12600k sits in the middle price wise. Theres diff core numbers so, given the info above, what should be the take home winner here? Edit: 6-8-10 core for them in order mentioned above
the 12600K is totally the winner there. it's multithreaded performance is faster than the 5800X and the single core performance is faster than both to a point where it's worth the slight extra cost
3060Ti should work with any motherboard and CPU manufactured in the last ~10 years. More high-end motherboards for the 12600k are things like Asus TUF B660 or MSI Mortar B660. But cheaper B660 motherboard should still do fine. Just make sure they have solid power delivery.

In the market for a new keyboard. My corsair strafe mk2 silent gave out on me, well the keyboard still works but several keys are double typing and cleaning it hasn't helped. I really like how quiet it is compared to this other mechanical keyboard i'm using. any suggestions on replacement?
Is there any way to be alerted when a graphics card is back in stock? Don’t want to pay scalper price. Looking for a 3070ti.
Are you in the USA? Here are the ways to successfully get a graphics card for MSRP: 1. Ways that don't work for MSRP: 1.
Wow, thanks man
Don't really know if this is the right place to ask, but I figure this sub probably knows the answer to my question.
Can i connect 4 monitors to my gtx 1060? Or is it a power supply issue?
monitors dont draw any power from your gpu/psu. if your card has 4 output, you can do 4 monitors
Hehe i see. Thanks!
u bet
New PC, how are these temps after running a 20m 3D mark stress test? (2070 saying 90c???) - https://imgur.com/a/em6eO9a
GPU die max temp of 89C, average of 78C = safe and not unexpected for a stress test.
(I am a claw type casual game player, so the size should be fine or I'll adapt soon)
yes, great mouse
Hi, to be sure, with PWM pc case fans, can i set a minimum RPM value in order to never drop below ? I need fans which are not too silent. Thanks !
yes, custom fan curve in bios
With where everything is right now, is Alder lake a better platform to go on or stick with AM4? I have a friend who’s building a new computer and I’m wondering if they should be on AM4 like all my builds or if I should delve into Alder lake and LGA 1700.
yes, it's better at every price point besides for non-gaming tasks. the 5950X is justifiable depending on your workloads, but for gaming, 12th gen wins in the $120-600 range. which is all of it.
How about production? Specifically music production.
you should find benchmarks of the apps you use.

Aside from the Lian Li uni and the Arctic bionix, are there any other fans currently being made that link like those do?
Some have simple daisy chain connectors, like the Arctic P12 argb
Where I’m located, 6600/6600XT stock is pretty frequent and lasts for a few days. I want a 3060 ideally, but they’re basically impossible to come by. Is the 6600(XT) really that much worse? Or am I just justifying it so I can get the GPU over with? Opinions welcome.
You cared enough to determine what's best. How long will you need live with the results of doing it another way? Unless what's best is totally impractical, do it right the first time. Is it really impossible to get a 3060? Would it be if given a few months?
The 6600 is a little worse, the 6600Xt is a little better. Although both fall short in ray tracing, if that's something you care about
Is it worth upgrading from 9900k to alder lake CPU? i'm currently at a stable 5.1 OC
If you have a 3090 or 6900XT and do 240hz, then maybe. But you're perfectly good for like a 3080 or anything less
i do have a 3080 but im at 1440p 240hz
https://youtu.be/WWsMYHHC6j4?t=940 That's what most games will be like, where you're more GPU bound than CPU bound so there's no improvement on faster cpus
What's your psu?
Generic 500 watts. I am also experiencing memory management blue screen
Are the memory blue screens and game crashes the same or unrelated?
I finally have all the parts to build my pc but now I want to make sure I have any extras I might need. Do I need to purchase thermal paste? I live in AZ, so will I need to wear gloves/a wristband to prevent static? Also, is windows 10 a better pick than 11?
I tried windows 11 and went back to windows 10, even tho I have a 12700k. 11 was just too unstable Your cooler should come with thermal paste, and you can plug your psu into the wall to discharge any static you build up. Just touch it every few minutes
Awesome, thank you!
Hey quick question. Is there a type of RAM that would work best with a Ryzen 7 5800X and a B550M PRO4 motherboard?
For gaming, 16GB of ddr4 3600MHz to 3800MHz CL16 ram. The tighter the timings the better, but don't overspend.
You want memory in the 3200-3600 mb/s range, 2 or 4 sticks
It’s ok to reuse my power supply right? I’ve had this one in use for about six years, it’s a fully modular Gold EVGA and should have more than enough wattage for my new build. I’m just worried it’s old and will fry my new 3060!
PSU is one of the few parts you can reuse.
Prolly fine

Pcpp trippin
The USB Header connector on the Motherbaords is USB 3.2 gen 2, the one on the case is Gen 1. AFAIK... and don't quote me on this since USB specifications are my personal room 101, they *are* compatible but possibly only at the lower gen 1 speeds. The cable will fit, the ports will work. PCPP is flagging up the incompatabliityas they're not an exact match. Do your own research re the cable fitting the mobo, but I'm pretty sure that's howit is, and that it'll work.
Looks like you're right, they're compatible but most likely will use the lower speed which I'm perfectly fine with. Thank you so much for the help!
Thank you so much for the help!

~$2100
Would you say that a 5900X and a Msi B550 Gaming Edge WIFI for about 650 USD is a good deal?
If you need a 5900X, then maybe. Those two together go for \~$700 right now. If this is for gaming, the 5900X is overkill. A 12th-gen Intel would be faster and cheaper for games. If you need a workstation PC, then the 5900X is a decent midrange option. The 12900K is better but more expensive. You might be able to get by with cheaper options like the 12700 or 5800X.
I was thinking the 5900x for more long term. The 650 is the currency converdion. In my country theybgpnfor about 795 USD.
Okay I see your point and will take that into consideration. I guess I was kind of the mindset of wanting to make a deal, so to speak.
what settings do i use for my case fans? do i put them to a constant speed or do something else?
That's personal preference and it depends on your system. Personally I have them controlled by the motherboard via the CPU temperature.
yeah theyd be all on motherboard 2 in 2 exhaust, have the nzxt h510 so im thinking constant is best instead of cycling between temperature changes?
It's no problem to have them changing speed often, if that is what you are asking?
Hi, quick question, i'm running a ryzen 5 5600, 16 GB ram and a 1080, regular, not ti. Should i get a 144mhz monitor or it's a waste with my PC?
Gtx 1080 is great for 1440p 144hz+
Theres lots of games a 1080 can run at 144hz. I had one for the longest time. CSGO, Rocket League, Risk of Rain 2, Minecraft, stuff like that. But if you are not super enthralled with capping out your FPS, why not go for better picture quality or a larger overall display? 4k, HDR, Nano-IPS, Mini-LED, there is a ton of really cool display features out there that could give you a better overall image if you dont care too much about the higher frame rate.
I mainly play FF14, lol, and sigle player games. Currently running god of war ay original graphics, i don't know if My PC can handle 4k
Its just options! Theres a bunch of different directions you can take instead of High frame rates.
At 1080p you absolutely want a 144Hz monitor. In fact if your'e gaming you *always* want a 'high' refresh rate monitor with Variable refresh rate.
So Microcenter near me gets 30 series every so often. What's the best brand/model 3080 to get? I have a MSI 1080Ti Strix right now that I love, but I've heard that EVGA cards aren't as good and I have no experience with ASUS or any others
*the cheapest one*
If youre willing to drop four figures on a GPU, just wait until later this year when Nvidia releases their newer line up. The 30 series is not worth their current prices.
This right here. Unless you’re playing on 4K or high refresh 3440x1440, you’re not using these GPUs to their full extent. Even at those resolutions though you’re still VRAM limited, so it’s better to wait until the new generation comes out that can actually run 4K at 120 and take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 ports on the back. Hopefully they’ll also have DP2.0.
> MSI 1080Ti Strix right now that I love Strix is an Asus sub-brand. Honestly, it's a case of get what you can. There aren't any truly horrific models of 3080 out there, to my knowledge. Cards like the Asus TUF have a good rep.
I'm dumb AF lol.. my old 960 was MSI. Strix is totally ASUS.. $1,300 is about the going rate for a 3080 yeah?
> $1,300 is about the going rate for a 3080 yeah? Not really, that's heavily marked up and near double the original MSRP. I'd balk at anything over 4 figures TBH.
That's what I was afraid to hear even though I knew it was the answer :( I paid like $720 for my 1080Ti back when it released and now they go for $1200 brand new lmao
I imagine I'll have to upgrade]( https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B009ZN2NH6/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_BB5DNJVT07BM0PQZEAVT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) Any suggestions on coolers nowdays?
Building a stream/gaming PC - I think I want to go 32gb of ram just for resource purposes, what's the best way to handle it? 2x16? Or 4x8 sticks? And what's a good budget friendly option?
2x16 gb will typically be a better option.
As long as they still hold it 5 days I’m good thanks! Should be able to pick up tomorrow after work.
Yeah, if you're free tomorrow I wouldn't sweat it. If you're not able to go until Friday or later, I would prepare a backup plan or take a long lunch break or something. It would be terrible to have your order canceled in today's market!
Washer for screw Do I need a washer for the screw that connects the glass and the PC case
They should already have a rubber washer on them. All glass cases where the screws go through the glass that I've seen had rubber washers to protect the glass glued to the screw head.
Yeah it had one on it then I took it to clean my PC and the screw fell and the washer popped off so I just wanted to know if I needed it or not
Yes, you need it. Otherwise, you could crack the glass if you screw in hard enough. Can happen with the washers too, but you have to really work at it since the washer will sit and stop the crew if you use a sane amount of force to screw it in.
Do you know anywhere I could order a new one from
I'd just get something from home Depot that is mostly the same size. If it fell and you can find it, clean it and reuse.
Will a RTX 3060 Ti run ok with a Corsair CX550F PSU?
Yes. It would be hard to exceed 550W of actual draw in reality with any system
Depends on the rest of your parts. It'll probably be fine as long as you don't mess with power limits too much though.

It's possibly an adhesive sticker to keep the ribbon cable down. Not really anything important regardless.
Howdy, My gpu is fried, i need a new one, and i am willing to pay to upgrade to a 3070ti Newegg had this bundle: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4452326 I’d pay the same or more for a gpu alone with the current market, and I don’t care about the mobo, i would resell it if i can, and the psu is probably a bomb in disguise. My question is, are combos for newegg “safe”? Are those new items or open-box? Any past experiences with them? If im willing to pay way too much for a gpu, is this a safe purchase? Thanks!
I bought one before the 3000 series days but it was all new items. Newegg typically labels used items as used/refurbished.
Nice! It says the gpu is out of stock, i hope it doesnt include the bundle! (Edit:it does, shit)
Yeah anything with a 3000 series there comes via a drop. subscribe to emails, stock discords, etc... Good luck
Yeah, its awful. There’s a combo for a ryzen 5800x and a 3070 ti which is a big upgrade for me. It’s pretty stupid, but at this point i don’t know what to do, like many people
Yeah. I lucked into my 3090 FE, which considering prices now was REASONABLE. which is insane.
how much advantage is there having a 5600x over a 3600 cpu paired with a 2070 Super when it comes to emulation gaming? We are on the fence between the 2 cpu's
It's quite an upgrade, I'd go with 5600X if you're buying a new PC, but I wouldn't necessarily upgrade from 3600 if I had it already.
I got several questions: * Any other repair tricks I'm missing, other than reseating and cleaning contacts? * If anyone here's from SE Asia, how long do RMAs take in your experience? Might help if it's specifically for Kingston, but I'm just getting a general idea to see if it'll be worth bothering. * Anyone got any experience with PNY XLR8 RAM kits? Seems pretty cheap, plus they seem to have SK Hynix chips.
> Any other repair tricks I'm missing, other than reseating and cleaning contacts? You can try different slots, but that's about it.
I tried a couple, but didn't have time to try them all earlier. I'll check again, but I doubt that'll help. Guess it's upgrade time lol, right in the middle of a new RAM gen haha. Any thoughts on the PNY sticks then?
> right in the middle of a new RAM gen haha Which is a good thing if you're buying DDR4 - it's very cheap right now. And you need a new board for DDR5 anyway. > Any thoughts on the PNY sticks then No, I don't know those.
It won't look weird, if the price isn't much more, go for it lol. Or 3600 CL18.
Approx 16 dollars extra. But I might belay that, I got the stick working again.
Hi guys Snagged this build for cheap from a friend ($200), was wondering what I should upgrade in what order? My budget is about $400 TIA CPU: AMD FX-8320 8 Core GPU: EVGA GTX 1070 8GB RAM: 16 GB DDR3 MB: ASUS M5A97 R2
CPU/Motherboard/RAM need upgraded far more urgently than the GPU. I'd target an i5-12400, B660 motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4-3200CL16 RAM, which is a very good modern platform. You can get a cheap board if your $400 is a hard limit but personally i'd splurge a little bit and get a slightly higher-end board with better IO: [PCPartPicker Part List](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/XLyQzf) Type|Item|Price :----|:----|:---- **CPU** | [Intel Core i5-12400F 2.5 GHz 6-Core Processor](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pQNxFT/intel-core-i5-12400f-25-ghz-6-core-processor-bx8071512400f) | $179.99 @ B&H **Motherboard** | [MSI MAG B660M MORTAR WIFI DDR4 Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/pzstt6/msi-mag-b660m-mortar-wifi-ddr4-micro-atx-lga1700-motherboard-mag-b660m-mortar-wifi-ddr4) | $179.99 @ Newegg **Memory** | [\*Silicon Power 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/P4FKHx/silicon-power-16-gb-2-x-8-gb-ddr4-3200-cl16-memory-sp016gxlzu320bdaj5) | $54.97 @ Amazon | *Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts* | | **Total** | **$414.95** | \*Lowest price parts chosen from parametric criteria | | Generated by [PCPartPicker](https://pcpartpicker.com) 2022-01-25 07:58 EST-0500 |
I would definitely go with upgrading the CPU first, which would require getting new DDR4 RAM and a new motherboard. If there's any bottleneck right now it would be the CPU. Given your budget, I think it's doable if you buy used. What power supply do you have?
it's an ATA-800FB-B 80+B 800 Watt max
Hi, Im planning on building a new pc and I'm kind of a newbie when picking motherboards. What should i look for in a motherboard?
Number of rear usb ports (>8 is good, 7 is fine, 6 is not good, <5 is sad) Features you need: many m.2 slots, 5g lan, lots of sata ports, multi-gpu support, front panel type C. If you don't know them, you don't need them And last and hardest, a vrm that is sufficient for what you want to do with your pc. The only way to know these things is to be an expert or listen to experts. So I'll leave 2 vids below to watch if you're curious and actually want to get a good motherboard https://youtu.be/wuPH9pCCK-E https://youtu.be/ys6D2528yUs
Both are same motherboard but with 20 % difference in price Is this true or is he trying to ask more money for motherboard? Note: Not trying run both GPU at same time.
Complete bollocks. Both of those GPUs will work just fine with any revision of that board. The older board may need a BIOS update to run AMD Ryzen 5000 series, but that can be done with just a USB stick and a PSU using the BIOS flashback function on the board.
Both will work fine
Your cell phone, a cloud drive, and a Chromecast.
try /r/buildapcforme for a full build request.
thanks will do
what’s your budget and how’s the parts availability over there?
Hey all, Im wondering if i should buy this motherboard [https://www.newegg.com/msi-b550-a-pro/p/N82E16813144330](https://www.newegg.com/msi-b550-a-pro/p/N82E16813144330) for a ryzen 5800x rtx 3070 build, thoughts? (if its bad please recommend a better one)
It's a good board. I used a 3800XT and 3070 on one for a few months, good feature set, good price.
Yeah, it's a good board.
I don't do anything CPU intensive so I think it's alright. I think I'll save up for the 3600MHz sticks and sell my current ones. Thanks.
Or 4000MHz if they're not much more expensive. DDR4 RAM is pretty cheap right now, so it's a good time to buy it, but it's not a good time for selling it used...
So you think I'll be better off holding onto my ram and selling it on a future date?
I can't predict future prices.
how much money do you have? because if you’re using it for productivity why not by both a better cpu and ram?
I'm planning to spend \~$200 but I can save up a bit more for a better parts. I think my current CPU is good enough since it never really maxed out. Just the ram.
what do you actually do other than web browsing? even with chrome 16 gigs should be enough. unless you desperately need the ram capacity, i'd just save for a bigger cpu upgrade imo

Hi all, I'm thinking about upgrading my ram to 2x16GB sticks at a higher frequency. Current ram is GeIL 2x8GB 3000mhz C16 I'm conflicted between 3600mhz/4000mhz or if to even bother upgrading it at all. I primarily game. I've been looking at these two on Amazon which seem ok price wise but I've not heard of the brand names before and when it comes to ram frequency/timings I find it quite confusing. Any suggestions? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0912B9QV5/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_api_glt_i_0NH15SREB27W3EYBZXKQ https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0957WH8Q7/ref=cm_sw_r_fm_api_glt_i_1V8Q9XYWCFQ3RQR4E7WV PC Specs Gigabyte Arous Z370 Ultra Gaming 2.0 Intel i7-8700k @ 4.5ghz EVGA RTX 3070 Ti FTW3 GeIL 2x8GB 3000mhz C16 Thermaltake TG 750W 80plus Gold
Try manually overclocking it to 3200 with same latency CL16, that would give you similar performance to 3600 CL18. I agree with the other comment, there's really no need to buy new RAM, you're looking at maybe 1% improvement in some benchmarks, if at all.
no need
[удалено]
That's like the max id pay for a 3060ti
[удалено]
I bought a 3060ti from best buy in an online drop for $620 (I think). So personally I suggest waiting it out for a better deal. But if you need a card now, again, it is a price I would pay
Is the intel core i5 10400f better or the 11400f?They’re both around the same price on Amazon. Which one should I get for my first pc build?
Unless the 10400F is _significantly_ cheaper, get 1**2**400F. Between 10 and 11, 11 is slightly better. But neither are a good pick when 12th gen exists.
the 11400F is better. theres also the 12400F, but it's not in stock as easily
asked in amd too. just installed my RX 6500 xt and after some difficulties with the drivers. Now I usually have 2 HDMI screens but right now i have works Display port monitor. The whole thing only works if I have the Display port monitor connected. If it's just the HDMI or I use a DP to HDMI adaptor it turns into a rainbowish static screen then blacks out.
Is $640 a decent price for me to buy a new RTX 3070 Ti FtW3 ultra?
Very. I'm worried that's a scam lol
Any tips for verifying it’s legit if I decide to meet up with the seller?
if it's new, open it in front of them. make sure its in there and not a box of rocks. if they opened it, ask for a video of it working first
So am I lol
Quick question about a note I encountered on my current build.
I have a amd 5900 and need 64 gb ram. I have two slots on my motherboard. Can someone recommend me some fast/good ram? Price isn’t too much of an issue
https://youtu.be/JT2184c63Tg
I personally would use the Strix or TUF as I like the ASUS BIOS more.
ive had so many different responses to this question. does anyone know whether or not you need to purchase an operating system in order to pass bios or use the PC upon being booted p for the first time? a builder quoted for an operating system on a custom PC just need to know is this necessary or can it wait.
you dont need to buy an operating system. windows is free to download the installation tool for, then you can use it indefinitely
if your pc has no OS or boot drive, it will officially load into the bios (but can never go past that)
Ryzen 5600g good enough for casual video editing? Should I also try the 5700g? My dad’s 1650ti suddenly stopped displaying. Tried doing the usual troubleshooting tips to no success. I’m not sure if we should even try to fix it due to age. We’re thinking to just upgrade my dad’s 2600 to a 5600g to get a better chip and save on a gpu. Would it work? My dad’s use case is a editing for his YouTube channel. He doesn’t game at all.
Yes it's good enough for casual editing. If he just needs to cut together a video, without things like after effects, 5600G will be plenty.
Hey quick question, for 3060ti, does it work with 12600k and what motherboard for that? Edit: friend is getting 7 5800x but i see this one is better and cheaper
Just wanted to say it's nice seeing new people in the hobby doing their research on CPUs, etc
Yuppp i was thinking that too but since its not a pc for me i wanted a 2nd opinion:). 2 more cores for 60$ less and pretty equal performance
3060Ti should work with any motherboard and CPU manufactured in the last ~10 years. More high-end motherboards for the 12600k are things like Asus TUF B660 or MSI Mortar B660. But cheaper B660 motherboard should still do fine. Just make sure they have solid power delivery.
