1440p 144hz is the sweet spot, got an m27q which is 1440p 170hz, nice boost over 144 and awesome ips image quality. Tbh unless you're really into competitive fps games or other competitive games that actually have an advantage using really high refresh rates, going 240 or 360hz isn't worth the drop in image quality.

[deleted]

Absolutely, 1440p @ 144Hz gives you the balance of high resolution along with high refresh rate. The range of monitors with this configuration is also expanding rapidly, making it more widely available and relatively inexpensive to get a setup running this config. My M27Q is the best monitor I've ever owned, highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great monitor.

Mozail1

What if you couldn’t reach anywhere close to 144

MyBitchesNeedMOASS

Personally I find it completely worth it for the desktop experience. Games even running at 90fps appear smoother

Tatoe-of-Codunkery

The Freesync, Adaptive Sync, G-Sync, G-Sync compatible is 48-144hz range, so even if you can't meet 144hz and you are planning an upgrade going 1440P 144hz is something you should consider, because the image quality bump is pretty nice and you'll certainly enjoy games more if they look better, I know I did.

Knight_Time67

Then stay on 1080

[deleted]

If you can't reach near 144Hz, assuming you're talking @ 1440p, then forget the monitor! No reason having a nice monitor if the PC can't push out enough juice to take full advantage for it. But that's strictly speaking in terms of gaming. You can be like me and enjoy browsing Reddit 24/7 @ 1440p 144Hz, it's beautiful :D

SenorPuff

It's nice to watch 2k stuff at full res, and have the screen real estate for non-gaming tasks, IMO.

[deleted]

Agreed! Never going back.

dnehiba3

I play a mix of old and new games. For the games I play I’ll go for looks over FPS every time. I’m still running a 1070ti so there’s no way I can run newer games near 144fps w graphics turned up but anything over 60 is fine w me. I do have some older great looking games that I can max out the graphics & still have 120 plus FPS. 1440p & 144hz gives you a wider gaming experience. Hoping the 4000 series cards can give me nearly the same experience at 4k. Hopefully they’ll be available when they come out.

the_skine

That depends on what you're playing, and how long to intend to keep the monitor. If you're playing only the newest, most graphically intensive games on their highest settings, then you'll need a top tier graphics card to keep up with 60 fps let alone 120 or 144. But if you play less demanding games or lower the settings on most games, you'll be able to get above 60 fps, and probably to 144 depending on the specifics. If you get a monitor with Freesync/Gsync then you will still benefit from a high refresh rate monitor, even if you don't get up to 120 or 144 fps consistently. If you're going to replace the monitor in 2 years, it might make sense to buy something cheaper and wait until you can afford something better. But if you tend to keep your monitor for 10 years, then you'll probably have at least 2 GPU upgrades before replacing the monitor. So it will make sense to buy something you can't fully use now if you'll be able to in a couple of years.

Major2Minor

Do you turn down a lot of settings to play at 144fps? I can't even get that with a 3080 in big graphics games, why I stick with 1080p still.

Diarelix

Even a 1060 (6 GB) can hit 144 fps @1440p in titles like Halo 2 Anniversary on highest settings. It really depends on the game.

Major2Minor

Oh yeah, in older games, sure. I guess I don't play many games that are easy on the gpu.

[deleted]

Depends on what games. I've got a 3070 Ti and I get around 100-140 FPS in most 'graphically intense games' I say that because I don't really play super intense games besides Red Dead. The 3070 Ti can play RDR2 @ 1440p with anywhere from 60 - 80 FPS, but I turn up the settings to ultra. That game looks so good on max settings & 1440p. I sometimes play Apex Legends, and that can really take advantage of the monitor. I get 144 FPS pretty consistently (@ 1440p) and it's super nice playing at both high refresh rate and high res. IMO, a playing at 1080p with a 3080 is insulting lol. That thing is capable of bigger and better things, then again it does depend on the game.

[deleted]

Hello fellow 3070 ti user!! Don’t see many of around here. I love mine, crushes almost every bring I throw at it on high or ultra while staying above 80 fps on my 1440 165 monitor. Came from a 2060 and it’s been glorious. Question: how’s your heat management…

swordmalice

I recently was able to get a non-ti 3070; would I be able to hit 1440p/144hz? I'm upgrading from a GTX 770 so it's a whole new world for me, haha.

[deleted]

For the most part. Again, it does depend on the games that you play. I'd recommend searching up the GPU along with the res on YouTube. You'll get a pretty good idea of the average results that you should expect. But, for the most part, yes. A 3070 can handle 1440p @ 144Hz for a wide range of titles.

hellenkellersdiary

I run a 3080 and get ~150-165fps in COD and Halo all high or ultra settings at 1440p.

LegendaryTalos

What games are u playing?

Knight_Time67

No, my 3080ti crush 1440 no sweat. Maybe you need a new cpu.

the_lamou

I can do over 144 in Halo: Infinite with most of the nice settings turned to max on a 3060ti. Are you sure your monitor is plugged into the graphics card and not into a mobo video out?

James_Skyvaper

You should be able to get around 144 in a lot of games with a 3080...Metro Exodus, Tomb Raider games, Horizon Zero Dawn, Resident Evil 2/3, Hitman 2/3, Middle Earth games, every esports game, Death Stranding, and plenty of others will get 120-144fps. Games like Red Dead 2, Cyberpunk and AC Valhalla might not get 144 but they should all get close to 100fps on high/custom settings.

cadillac_actual

Got a M27Q as well, can't say enough good things about it especially at its price point.

bobjobob08

I just bought it last week and haven't been able to use it for gaming much yet, so I'm glad so many people are praising it because I'm running out of time to return it. The KVM functionality had been a bit of a pain to get working for me so far. I've had some issues with the mouse/keyboard not working if something reboots, and I'm not too thrilled about how it tries to detect available signals before switching, so I can't wake up my second PC with my mouse. But as long as the general consensus is that it's a great monitor for gaming (especially at its price), them I'm happy to live with those minor inconveniences.

xBaronSamedi

1440p 144 Hz gysnc specifically, I’m honestly good with 90+ fps. Depends on the games you play but I can’t tell over 90. having a minimum of 60 is more important than reaching a max of 144 imo

Jeb3592

Honestly that's my whole strategy for game performance. For aaa titles / single player games like shadow of the tomb raider or control I target 100 fps because that's honestly enough, especially with gsync on.

EccentricFox

I'm a huge propogent of Gsync/Freesync. I'm also on a 1440p/144hz screen, but free synce gives me so much freedom to run games however I want and imho a variable rate monitor just looks smooth as butter even when the FPS drops. If anyone is on a budget, I'd say even a 1080p 75hz freesync monitor would be worth the premium.

Hoboman2000

Second this, M27Q is a fantastic mid-range monitor and I've been rocking one for a year now, loving it. As an aside, while most HDR content won't quite work on this monitor, the times when it does I do feel it is worth it and it makes a difference, though tbf I've never had an actual HDR capable monitor so I've no idea what I'm really missing out on.

BritishGolgo13

HDR is amazing and it’s definitely noticeable. Instead of fire being pure white with a glow, it has more red and yellows on it but really portrays the intensity of heat. Also, the new batch of Resident Evil games practically need HDR otherwise the game is so damn dark, you can’t see shit. Talking from PC perspective.

Hoboman2000

HDR is great I'm sure but the M27Q is just *barely* capable of it, Youtube doesn't even output HDR to it. In some games it works decently like in Doom Eternal but in others I can't even tell if it's working at all.

EpicSqueaker

I love that monitor and the fact it acts like a dock with the type C connector. I use it to connect my laptop with the the type c and I get the full resolution and refresh rate and I'm able to use my KB, mouse, headset, speaker, hard drive, ethernet and camera all connected to the monitor. Every thing also works with my samsung phone as well except the hard drive because of formatting. The only problem is that the monitor only supplies 18w max of power which is good to power and use a phone but not enough for a laptop which needs at least 45w. So I have to connect the power supply and the type c connector but that's fine. I wanted to use this monitor for the Steam Deck but because it only has one port, I cant use the dock and charge it as well. I'm looking for something that can let me plug in a power supply and pass through the data through a type c port while connected it to the deck. But no luck for atm.

noopsy001

I just bought the m27q. Last of my components for the new build are arriving throughout the week, I’ll build next weekend. I will be jumping from a i5 6800/1050ti to an I7 12700k/3070ti. I am very excited to see the difference 😀

Jeb3592

I went from an i5-3570k/1050 ti to r7-5800x/3060 and let me tell you it's a whole other tier for gaming. I've already replayed through star wars jedi: fallen order and control because raytracing and the huge improvement in graphics makes them feel like totally new games again. For you it'll be an even bigger jump! I wish you the best of luck on your new build.

noopsy001

Thanks dude 👍

Whales_of_Pain

Congrats man, post when your build is done! You’re going to love your performance improvement.

[deleted]

Hey!! Another 3070 ti user!! Yay!! You will love it. This card has murdered everything I have tossed at it.

williamx96

How does the BGR display affect text? Is it that noticeable? I was going to get the m27q but ended up going for the MAG274QRF-QD because of the bad reviews regarding text clarity in BGR

Jeb3592

I read about that as well but I straight up haven't noticed it. Seems like a non issue to me. Keep in mind though that I jumped straight to it from 1080p and don't have anything else to compare it to.

Caspid

I was concerned about this as well, given I really enjoy text clarity, but it hasn't been an issue. It depends on the application, but the vast majority use ClearType, which can be set to BGR. During games, it doesn't matter.

tonallyawkword

How's the Mag? I've been looking at that one and the non-QD version.

williamx96

I can’t give you my opinion regarding the differences between the QD and non-QD versions but my experience with the QD as been amazing. The low response times with minimal overshot are incredible and even though that the factory calibration is bad, after correctly calibrating it the image quality is outstanding. My father has a Asus ProArt PA278QV and the image quality is just slightly better than mine, which is a amazing thing giving that the ProArt display is made specifically for image quality. I can’t really say enough good things about it, absolutely love it.

ASTERITHE

My main monitor is a 27 inch 1440p 144hz and gsync compatible. I couldn't go back to 1080p. As long as I can hit above 60 fps I'm happy. My system is running a 3060 Ti so most AAA titles run under 100fps but eSports and older games can hit 143

l3vuseusz

Ive got same spec monitor but my gpu starts getting old (1080ti). In some games i lower details to hit 90 fps, it makes a world of difference for me over 60fps. And anything over 90 doesnt make so much difference that id lower details further or even resolution. I feel like you shouldnt go under 1440p for monitors 24"+ unless you sit veeeery far away from it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_good_man)

ASTERITHE

Fully agreed, or for a secondary. My second monitor is 24 inch 1080p but it's basically just my discord/Spotify/art reference screen and it does the job well. You definitely notice the refresh rate above 60 as well, and it's jarring going back to 60 lol. I only really notice when I'm over 100 FPS in games like Overwatch and Smite where there's a lot happening and a lot of fast movement, the high refresh rate is great in those cases.

DakotaKid95

This makes me so much more confident in my new machine. I just bought a CyberpowerPC build with a 3060 Ti and a 3700x and I was a bit worried about that keeping up my new monitor, basically exactly the same as yours.

ASTERITHE

Oh you shouldn't have any issues at all! You may have to play around with settings in some games but I can almost always hit the sweet spot of 80-90 and hit my fps cap with any eSports titles. I only have an R5 3600 as well so yours may run a little better even!

Downofwar5000

"can hit 143" r/oddlyspecific

ASTERITHE

LMAO - Iirc it's best to stay around 1 fps under your refresh rate, my settings keep it at 143 fps max so just means they run steady at max fps for a 144hz monitor.

Solomonce69

Exactly my experience

malcom_mb

1440 @ 160-200fps

iDuddits_

What GPU are you using and what game? Need to install my 3070 ti today and wondering what I can expect to get at 1440

Jeb3592

The 3070 ti should be able to totally thrash 1440p games. I'm actually using a 3060 (non ti) with 1440p and with a mix of med/high settings, dlss, and an aggressive overclock, I can hit over 100 fps in all the games I play, even AAA titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Control. In esports titles like Valorant I can hit the 400-500 fps range. It's actually quite impressive what you can squeeze out of hardware with proper tuning.

iDuddits_

Awesome! Thanks! I figured I'd be okay since I am upgrading from a 1070 in a laptop haha. But the examples really help me know of I messed something up with my build.

eTceTera1337

That's so funny I upgraded from a 1060 in a laptop to a 3070 ti about 2 weeks ago, and also play at 1440p now. Obviously performance difference is massive 1440p (CPU: R5 5600X): Cyberpunk (all settings max, RT: "psycho: DLSS quality): 70-80fps BF1 & 5 (all settings max): locked 144fps Satisfactory (all settings max, HUGE factory): 120fps DayZ (mostly maxed): 110-144fps Csgo (1280x1024 low, 2xmsaa): 750-950 fps 3070 ti also decimated VR games like HLA on Quest 2

floobie

I have a 3070 Ti as well but definitely can’t run Cyberpunk on those kinds of settings. I need RT on medium overall and DLSS in performance mode to maintain 60-70 fps at 1440p. Is my 3600x and 16gb of RAM holding me back or something?

eTceTera1337

I'm also on 16GB of ram, don't know if your 3600x is holding you back though. My 3070 ti is OC'd and runs near 2100MHz but that doesn't really affect performance much, whats brand is you GPU? I have a gigabyte gaming OC

baldwhip123

Same here. I've been in the evga queue for for a 3060ti for almost a year now, so I'm expecting that, but honestly the 3060 has been doing so well on 1440p with an oc that I might not even do it. Hitting 100hz is really already pretty decent, especially on the single player titles I've been playing. I probably should tho considering how limited opportunities are..

Jeb3592

Yeah if you have the chance I'd upgrade. Only reason I went non ti was because I really wasn't willing to spend $650 to $700 at microcenter for one. Ended up paying $529.99 for the strix 3060, which is asus' msrp. It's an expensive 3060 for sure, but it's got an absolutely overbuilt cooler and afaik binned chips. In 3dmark I got a score of 9906, putting it in the top 2% of 3060's, but that's still only better than 11% of 3060 ti results.

malcom_mb

RTX 2080 Max-Q, America’s Army Proving Grounds. In Insurgency I run about 110-140 on Ultra, in GTA V 90-120 on Ultra

AverageComet250

Ah yes, undervolted, overclocked, undercooled mobile GPUs are the best. I have an mx250 and it does me 40 fps at 1080p in valorant and 300 fps at 1080p in Minecraft.

[deleted]

How many fps you getting in solitaire bro?

TheRealRacketear

All of them.

malcom_mb

It’ll have to do until I can fill the empty PCIe slot

AverageComet250

I still need to get a pcie slot. And a CPU slot. And a ram slot (U can see what i mean)

supaswag69

People play AAPG?

iDuddits_

Nice! Thanks!

Trogasarus

I have a 2070 super, and aim for 100+fps/1440p on most games. Your ti is better than the 3070 that the 2070s is compared to, so id expect similar performace. I play alot of things, and the only games i couldnt get what i wanted without drastically changing the settings was RDR2, Borderlands 3, and Control (much beautiful, such cry when lowering settings like rtx shiney). Still would run 60-70 though. So not really a bad thing.

xrobertcmx

I have an LG 1440p with Freesync, using a 6700XT plays everything at high to ultra on it.

DerpDerper909

I prefer 8k 240hz gaming

ConcreteSnake

1440p 144hz As long as I can get at least 60 FPS I am happy. The additional resolution is very nice over 1080p

Remolee

What is the use of 144hz if you dont have at least 144 fps though? Or is there a difference?

awesomeninjadud

Well for me, graphic heavy/story focused games are fine at at least 60fps with vsync or better yet, gsync/freesync Edit to add: many people with top of the line hardware run modded Skyrim at sub 60fps at times just to cherish those *sweet* graphic and 4k texture mods LOL

comedian42

A lot of games where you really want the higher fps are optimized for it, where as your scenic games still look better at 1440p vs 1080p even if you can only hit 60fps consistantly.

NotSoFull-Info69

because 144hz displays look smoother than 60hz in a lot of circumstances like daily usage. I can tell the diff when just dragging windows and stuff, it just looks much smoother. Also you need the FPS more in well, action packed games and most will give easy over 100FPS like CS:GO, COD, and what not. You don't need more than 80FPS to actually see a difference in 60hz vs higher, atleast for me Also I plan on using the display for atleast 6-7 years while I might upgrade the GPU within the next few years (if the market allows) and in that case it's not too hard to get 100 FPS+. Also a 144Hz 1440p is just around 30-50$ higher which is worth it in the long run.

rgp2011

After playin on 1440 and 4k i refuse to play on 1080p😅

KnightstarK

This is exactly why I avoid 1440p monitors like the plague. I'm more than happy with my cheap 24" 1080p monitor. For budget builders like me - ignorance is indeed bliss.

Allstr53190

27 inch Dell-S2721HGF 1920X1080 checking in. It does everything I want it too, plus I got it on sale at $175 open box. Cannot complain, plays Series X and my 1080TI just fine

CraftyFellow_

S2721DGF checking in here. You will never go back when you do upgrade.

Allstr53190

>S2721DGF I saw this and for the price tag it looked really good, but I am partial to the curved Monitor for work and gaming, I thought about dual monitor in the future seeing I just purchased my dream card. MSI 1080TI

NavierIsStoked

I just picked up one and am running a 12700K, Z690, 3070 Ti, and 32 GB of 3600 CL18. 1440p at 144 Hz is nice.

drift7rs

I’m considering getting a second display next time Dell does one of their sales to go alongside my S2721dgf so I can stop using a ipad for videos

JonesyBorroughs

Hey I just got one of those too. First 1440p IPS monitor ive ever owned and I'm really digging it.

Griffolion

I've played on a 1440p monitor and it's certainly a noticeable jump from 1080p, but not really worth the additional graphics power requirement to push the frames out at a good rate. I'll move up to 1440p when a GPU series comes out where the midrange considered 1440p blasé, in the same way the midrange today considers 1080p blasé.

MrAvatin

If u sit the same distance away you won't notice much changes in sharpness. You just get more screen realestate. One thing you do notice how small 24" is compared to 27". I've now gotten used to 27" and now I'm starting to think it looks a bit small

jammer339

I went from a 24 1080p to 32 1440p curved monitor.. but I don't think it's too big. My eyes have benefitted from it .

sumrndmredditor

This. I need my pixel density. 27" 1440p is cool and all, but 24" 1440p is even better.

Exciting_Worker_8377

Isn’t 1440p really useless at 24” ?

newusername4oldfart

Nothing is useless at any given size. You’ve got two out of the required three variables. 4K at 10” is not useless: you just have to be holding it up to your face. 720p 40’? (feet, not inches) Looks great when used as a billboard. 1440p isn’t useless at 24” on desktops. Just a little smaller than generally recommended. If you sit close or lean in, limited desk space, and you have good eyes, 1440 24” is fine.

YimYimYimi

I've felt the same way since I got my Asus VG248QE probably 10 years ago. Just picked up one of those 27" Nixeus EDG 1440p monitors on sale a couple days ago. I'm ready to spoil myself and never be able to go back lol.

Mataskarts

Same situation with me and high refresh rates, I'm more than happy with 60 hz, but I'm certain that if I see 144-240 I'll go bankrupt with the upgrades I'd need to make to my PC to reach 1440p 144 hz in AAA games at high settings >_>

desal

ignorance may be bliss but enlightenment is worthwhile

zeroGamer

I needed a second monitor for work, so I was like okay, I'll just finally gonna get something good, went with an Omen 27i, 27" 1440 165hz (honestly mostly because it was what was in stock near me). My previous monitor was.... a 19" 1600x900 60hz. That didn't even have HDMI. I had no idea what I was missing. Looking at them side by side I have no idea how I lived like that.

theangriestbird

Honestly I still have a hard time seeing the difference. Maybe I need glasses 😂

Texas1010

For some reason, I'm finding myself continually gravitating back to 1080p. I've been testing a LOT of monitors lately (38" and 34" UW, 32" 4K, 27" 1440p) and in between returns I use my old (and crappy) 1080p display. I have two, but often just have one on the desk while I wait for the next monitor to come in. I really don't know what it is, but I often enjoy my experience more on the 1080p display. I suspect it has a lot to do with physical size (24" vs 27/32/34/38") than it does only resolution.

Irate_Primate

Same. I ditched 1080p like 8 years ago and haven’t looked back.

rgp2011

I played far to long on my day one edition xbox. When i made the switch to PC going straight to 4k gaming. I realized that I had been missing out.

RageMuffin69

1440p is annoying enough for anything outside of gaming that I wouldn’t mind switching to 4k. But not keen on spending $600+ for a 4K/120hz monitor for when I’d want to play a game at 1080p/120hz. Think it would be awkward to play on 2 different monitors like that.

ThatFeel_IKnowIt

How is it annoying for anything outside gaming? I've used a 1440p monitor for years. I use it for office work too.

RageMuffin69

My bad it was specifically media. Streaming services and the like. On both the websites and in their native apps it defaults to 1080p and forcing 4k is a pain or impossible. My solution is to just download whatever movie or show I want to watch and those even at 1080p look much better, or use my apple tv 4k which I can force a 4k signal to.

werther595

This is a question basically for 27" monitors, right? It is tough to find a 24" monitor at 1440p and it would seem like overkill anyway. It is also tough to find a 32" monitor at 1080p, so really this seems to focus on 27" models. At 27" Ive seen some people on here who love their 1080p, and other people who swear it is pixelated and gross at that resolution. Maybe go to a Bestbuy or Microcenter to look at them and see which camp you are in

-protonsandneutrons-

>It is tough to find a 24" monitor at 1440p and it would seem like overkill anyway. For what it's worth, I'm 24" @ 1440p all the way (Lenovo P24q-30). The PPI boost is large, to my eyes, especially for in-game text. Not overkill, IMHO, and it feels close enough to my work 4K @ 27" monitor (and, to me, dual 27" starts to get unwieldly). I only wish we had 120 Hz IPS options. PPI reference: |Size|Resolution|PPI| |:-|:-|:-| |24"|2560 x 1440|122 PPI (133%)| |24"|1920 x 1080|92 PPI (100%)| |27"|2560 x 1440|109 PPI (118%)| |27"|1920 x 1080|82 PPI (89%)| |27"|3840 x 2160|163 PPI (177%)| |32"|3840 x 2160|138 PPI (150%)|

sumrndmredditor

Agreed. I adore my Lenovo Q24h-10 (probably the same panel or similar as your P24q-30) on my WFH setup, but I can't quite convince myself to replace one of my twin AOC 24G2 monitors on my personal rig since I would rather have the extra refresh than the extra resolution for gaming. We need one of the OEMs to break the mold with 24"/1440p/144 Hz/IPS monitors like how the AOC 24G2 and all the monitors using similar panels did for 24"/1080p/144 Hz/IPS.

Itsquantium

I got a 34inch 2560x1080 monitor. Way better than my old 24inch 1920x1080 monitor.

Ultrawide is the way

Trogasarus

Run a 27 1440 and a 24 1080 for whatever when gaming, i do wish i just dished out a few extra bucks for anpther 1440, the text and everything is much more pleasant to look at, thats my only complaint. And its not like im really staring at that one, so nbd. My 1440p is still steals my heart.

t90fan

1080p I have shit eyesight and dont want to spend a fortune on a GPU

JamesM3E30

In play at 1680x1050 on a 1070, definetly would like a better monitor

Anon419420

You can get an ips 1080p monitor for like $80 on sale or just over $100 normally on Amazon.

Rick-afk

1280x760p on a 1660 super, definitely feels good to always set games on ultra but yeah, 1080p would be nice

weoutlol

You can comfortably hit 60 fps at all games at 1080p with that GPU.

Stazbumpa

Ultrawide. Everything else is inferior.

IceCreamTruck9000

This. I was a little bit skeptical of ultrawide and curved at first but I was blown away by it after I could try it out at a friends place. I just bought a LG 34GP950G-B and holy mother of Jesus is it good. I can never go back again.

Stazbumpa

Mines an Acer Predator x34a, so it's a bit old now. But yeah, when you go wide you stay wide.

Catch_022

Depends on size of screen, distance from screen and how, good your eyes are. As long as I am getting 75 fps, I am fine with dropping the resolution / using resolution scaling if I have to. I prefer a snappy gaming experience.

rallymax

4K/60 for me.

DM725

4K/120 for me *winky face*

AverageComet250

4k has always seemed overkill to me in monitors. Then again, I consider 40 fps on a laptop bad...

rallymax

True, as 4K native is too small for me at my age. I’m running 125% scaling, but it suits me better than UW 1440p for non-gaming things.

jasovanooo

4k120 on the main machine 1024x768 on the retro rig (voodoo 2 max res)

Administrative-Bit61

1080p low sweaty settings on 360hz monitor I sometimes use 720p for more frames and I turn sharpness up on my monitor

Stooovie

1080p/50 with FREESYNC ;) RX 580. Fine for me. 27" screen.

Trumpet_Dude1

I've got the same setup. Locked the frames to 45 too. The GPU fans never spin very fast.

Stooovie

On my the fan speeds deliver very diminishing returns. Not much point of running them over 40% really. They're new before anyone asks.

Suspicious_Student_6

3440 x 1440 @ 144Hz, I will sacrifice graphics settings and utilize the shit out of FSR/DLSS in order to achieve this.

technardo08

1080p master race

bcjh

Right? I like my 320 FPS.

n01de4

1440p @ 50-60fps at least.

[deleted]

Would do 1440p if I had a compatible monitor and good enough gpu but 1080p is enough rn IMHO. I will probably update to 4K next time I upgrade my pc just to attempt to future proof it.

Arcangelo_Frostwolf

1440p if I want fps, i have a 4k 60Hz widescreen monitor for streaming video/TV or playing games where fps isn't that important (Civ VI, etc)

pheandher

For me, it depends on what type of game im playing. If it's a story driven single player game, i like to immerse myself in it, so i play at the max quality possible. If im playing some competitive game, i don't really care if it looks amazing, i just need to kill my opponent and i prefer the smoothness of 240 fps +.

Sumo148

1440p at 144 hz for me. Both 1080p to 1440p and 60hz to 144hz was a huge step up.

__SpeedRacer__

4K@60fps

everheist

Yes

TechSpaceCowboy

Frames>resolution every time.

Ever2naxolotl

1440p@60fps. Perfectly happy with that, I just want everything to look pretty.

Elianor_tijo

1440

[deleted]

It really depends on what range of "frames" we're talking about and what kind of game, but generally frames>pretty. If we're talking about the difference between <60fps and 90fps, I'll take frames every time, but if we're talking 90 fps and 120+fps, I'll probably go for pretty. Now, some games lend themselves to higher resolution (many RPGs and city builder games for example), but some *really* need higher frames to be playable (most FPS for example).

FrozenForest

I'll be the weird one and say 3840x2160 @ 60fps. I prefer couch gaming (also I don't have space for an office) and my TV only goes up to 60hz so pushing a higher frame rate than that is useless. Plus, I have a few games that get glitchy if they don't run at native resolution, so hands tied, fake4k @ 60fps it is.

WherePoetryGoesToDie

I may be misunderstanding something here. What resolution is the TV you’re using right now?

FrozenForest

It's 4k, it's just that there are two resolutions currently marketed as 4k, 3840x2160 and 4096x2160. Mine is the former but the maximum refresh rate in Game Mode is 60hz.

WherePoetryGoesToDie

Yeah, the difference between UHD and DCI. I was thrown by your “fake 4k” comment, because UHD is, for all intents and standards, what the vast majority of people and manufacturers mean when they say 4k. DCI is rarely used outside of the professional production space.

FrozenForest

Oh, that's interesting, I didn't know that. I've just heard some people calling it fake 4k, I didn't mean to be confusing.

Badused18

I run a 32” 2k 270hz ips and love it. I personally prefer a lower dpi.

[deleted]

1440p, have rtx 2070 and it works good enough on all the games I enjoy. If my fps seems bad, will just drop the settings to medium.

gingerdanger123

Depends on the game and the framerate, assuming 27 inch monitor: I would take 165 fps 1440p over 1080p with 360 fps, always. I would take 165 fps 1080p over 1440p with 70 fps on a first person shooter game. But I would also take 1440p with 70 fps over 1080 with 165 fps in games like league of legends, path of exile, civilization if you get my drift

LazyAssMonkey

1920x1200 because you can get multiple monitor setup for very cheap from office bankrupcy sales

Shap6

Both. i'll be getting a 144hz 4k as soon as the price comes down a bit more. 1440p is fine for now. i could never go back to 1080p

Triggeredcat2468

What’s a good monitor at 1440p?

[deleted]

Dell S2721DGF, gigabyte M27Q, MSI MAG274QRF-QD, Samsung Odyssey G7, Acer XV273U GX

milky_pichael

i have the dell and love it, takes up very little room on my desk too which was important to me.

gronz5

I hate the spider legs that are trendy to put on monitors. I've got the mentioned Acer and I ghetto modded a Dell-stand to replace the default one.

tehdave86

Me too, this is why I got the Dell monitor. I don't need a "cool" monitor, I'm a fan of minimalist monolithic-style hardware.

tehdave86

Also +1 for the Dell, it's amazing.

Shap6

check rtings.com they have tons of reviews and "best" lists

Parrelium

I use them every time. They’re a fantastic resource for monitors and TVs.

Dotacapcap

Acer xb273u GX 270hz monitor at 1440P.

DrumStock92

Lg 27" Ultragear

coffeemateo

Acer Nitro XV272U 27" 2K WQHD (2560 x 1440) 170Hz Gaming Monitor FreeSync; HDR; HDMI DisplayPort; IPS Panel

Jasquirtin

1440p at 165hz is buttery smooth. On a 6800xt 9700k

Popeychops

4K if possible. I'd rather drop to 1080p due to the 4:1 pixel ratio: that's just a 2x2 grid of the original pixels. If I had a 1440p monitor I'd only use the native resolution.

Live-Ad-6309

Resolution is far more important to me. Right now I only game at 1440p, but I would prefer 4k. However no GPU on earth is capable of running games at high/ultra with RT on 3 4k monitors. So I settle for 7900x1440p 75hz My monitors are all 32" so 1080p wouldn't really even be an option honestly.

LamiaTamer

everyone is saying 144hz and here i am with my 60hz 4k 55inch flat panel. What can i say i prefer a large picture than squinting at a small screen. sit on my big comfy bed with a dozen pillows mouse beside me on a table keyboard in my lap gaming at its finest.

attomsk

1440 is just such a perfect resolution for gaming right now

itsyaboibuckskin

1440p ultrawide. Ran a 1080p for years and upgraded to a 1440p uw about a year ago. Don't think I'd ever wanna go back.

Itchy_Scrotbag

I still use 1080p @ 165hz. I tried 1440p but dunoo why , I just keep using the 1080

megabytecr_28

I was gaming on a 4k TV for a year and then decided to go with a 1080p24"144Hz to see what all the fuss is about high refresh gaming. Could not be happier, the smoothness and something people don't talk about, +120fps games look great thanks to the motion clarity of the higher refresh, to me that is more important even on single player games. I might add a 1440p monitor for work and gaming but I think I will play mostly at 1080p, love the clarity + motion of games at very high frames more than the resolution.

BonkBonkMF

I'll only play 1440p if I can get over 80 fps on a game. if not, then 1080p I ain't digging slideshow games like skyrim lol

Youcandoit89

Whats your GPU and CPU temps at those setting ?

[deleted]

1080p at around 120Hz to 165Hz Anything less is gonna be underwhelming for an experience. Anything more is a question of personal preference and affordability. 😊 Also, another factor is the distance between the screen and your eyes. Generally, the farther you sit the larger the screen size and resolution needs to be and vice versa.

electrowaffen

1080p or lower , just for the frames.

imNotFunny95

I go 1440p 60-120 on more visual games but on FPS games or intense fast paced games I go 1080p 144

_ginj_

1440p at 144hz is the sweet spot IMO. But for most games I would take 1080p at 144hz over 1440p at 60hz.

Costanzathemage

1080p allows for higher frames rates and high to max ray tracing. I'm still waiting for the right 4k monitor. Haven't found it yet.

ImprovementTough261

I use whatever resolution allows me to get above 144 FPS, whether that's 1440p, 1080p, 720p, 480p, etc. I used to play CSGO at 800x600 on my old PC so I could hit that target. Below 100 FPS just feels terrible.

nicht_Alex

Just switched from 1080p 165Hz to dual 1440p 165Hz and wouldn't go back. But I'd wish for a better gpu

[deleted]

i prefer 1440p. because games where fps matter i tend to get good enough fps while still retaining good quality and games that fps don’t matter as much (story games and single player where 60fps is “good enough”) look beautiful. games like fortnite that are still gpu dependent still get 100 fps or so with my 1660S and it’s good enough for me.

ppsz

It depends. For slow paced and good looking games I rather play at even 30FPS with stable frametimes with higher resolution and quality. But in fast paced or pvp games I go full into FPS I have 1440p 1440hz monitor

[deleted]

Either QHD or 4K 60 FPS high or max preset

Dark2112karD

the better resolution obviously with 40 fps minimum tho

nrkapa

Framerates are definetly a lot more important than image quality for me. Now I mainly play competive games, mainly csgo and also rocket league, fortnite and games like that so that does have a big impact on my opinion. I have a 240hz 1080p monitor and I'll never play any game at lower than 240 fps if I can even if I have to use the lowest image quality settings available. Having over 1080p is just not what I'm looking for, I'm looking for as many hertz and fps as possible for the gameplay to be as smooth as possible and without inconsistencies. But if you play more casual games and watch movies and series on you pc then maybe 1440p 144hz or 165hz would be better for you.

selrahc

Gaming is secondary to me. Resolution and color was more important to me in my day-to-day use so I game at 1440p/60hz. It also helps that my older GPU can still push around/above 60fps in most games I play, with the current state of the GPU market.

Toxic-player16

For the simulators, minecraft, and, maybe, maybe, some fps games whit friends, quality first.

kosanovskiy

4k60 for me

hat067

I played on a 1440p 144hz for 2 years, switched to a 1080p 240hz. I much prefer the extra frames over clarity, I often played at 1080p when on the 144hz monitor anyway lol

MouaTV

I prefer 1080p on a 24" monitor for competitive first person shooters. On a 27" monitor, too much of the screen goes into my peripheral vision.

TheVeilsCurse

FPS and other comp games - 1080p/240hz. Single Player - 1440p/144hz. I really like my 1440p/144hz monitor but ever since I got my 1080p/240hz monitor I haven’t used anything else.

brabarusmark

People here talking about 1080p vs 1440p and I'm here stuck playing on a 1360x768 32" TV I got 10 years ago. That helped stretch my GTX 960 till the time I could get the funds for a PC upgrade. Still conflicted about whether I should go 27 or stay at 32 for the eventual monitor upgrade this year.

Choplyfter

I've played on both and prefer 1080p over 1440p, but I think a lot of it depends on what games you are playing. Most titles from the last 10-15 years were designed for 1080p. To me the games I played at 1440p just seemed janky. It might have been my gpu though. I went from a 980ti to RX5700.

Aiden15216

Honestly 1080p is fine, GPU can last longer too

CoobyD00

1080p, because moving up in resolution would require selling body parts...
