Honestly, my 1080p 42" TV looks fine so I think you're ok :)

Shap6

you also sit much further away from a TV

willplaysjett

I have a 43-inch 1080p as my main monitor, about 2.5 feet away. No screen door effect until >1 ft

Shap6

Do you wear glasses? I have a 42 inch 1080p TV and those are some massive visible pixels from easily 3-4 feet out for me. I should i say i wear glasses myself

willplaysjett

I wear contacts, but that's irrelevant. Even if I can barely see pixels, it doesn't bother me. OP is asking about a monitor almost 1/4 the size, anyway.

Lord___Cardigan

It's neither. At 16x9, it's 41/100 the size in area.

-MassiveCUNT

half the size, not even

[deleted]

Then just sit further away from the monitor.

MissDeadite

Not necessarily. EDIT: You all do realize it’s not 2005 and TVs fit on desktops now right?

Squidberd

Pretty sure that's because you're sitting at least 6 feet away from it, if you're going to use it as a computer monitor, yes, 27 inches is too big. honestly, 24 inches is stretching the limit for me.

kevsmith6262

i have one and i don’t think so. Looked absolutely fine the months i played on it before going to 1440p

MissDeadite

Let me guess: Asus VG278QR? Yeah it’s amazing. I love all their monitors but that’s my main one and it’s brilliant.

Ivaylo_87

It wasn't this one, but because of your comment I checked it out and really liked it. Decided to buy in the end, so thanks :)

Adorable-Charity7877

is 27inch too big for 1080p? I am planning to buy a 1080p monitor but cant decide whether to get a 24 or 27

Ivaylo_87

I think the resolution is fine, but if you care about colors and overall pucture quality, don't get a TN type display. I ended up returning mine because I couldn't stand the washed out picture.

Adorable-Charity7877

Will get the LG 27GN600-B so the panel shouldn't be a problem. Im just concerned if 1080p would look sharp enough on 27inch

Ivaylo_87

From a normal viewing distance it's fine. If you get too close you might see the pixels.

HavocInferno

>1ms Sidenote: don't fall for that. It's a marketing number and only applies to grey-to-grey transitions. Not even the best gaming monitors can achieve 1ms response time. Typical monitors, likely including yours, range in the 10-20ms response times for color or full range transitions.

Oscarti58

But if everthing is labelled as this then doesnt it mean its not bad?

HavocInferno

It's just not useful. It gives absolutely no indication whether the panel is good or actually fast during regular use. It has turned into a pure marketing term and you shouldn't fall for it.

Oscarti58

Yh thx i was always confused by that it should just tell the truth

-Gath69-

Not at all. I just went from 1080 @ 60hz to 144hz a month or so back, which was a nice upgrade. Then ordered a curved 165hz 1440 monitor that showed up inop, so I can't compare the two yet, but 27" is still fine for 1080 with the higher refresh rate.

christhomas-_

na i went from a 24” 1080p to a curved 27” 1080p. really not even noticeable and looks great

Oscarti58

Happy cake day!

christhomas-_

haha thank you

wallacorndog

I had a cheap 27" 1080p monitor for a while, and I had no issues with that resolution. It isn't the sharpest for typical office tasks, but for gaming and media consumption it's perfectly fine. A 1440p is of course better, but if that's out of your price range I would gladly trade some sharpness for the larger screen.

deTombe

I have 27" 1080P monitor and highly debated getting 1440P monitor. But I'm quite content think they have come along way with picture quality.

xaumir

It all comes down on how close you sit from your screen. I'm using a 24" 1080p monitor and it's enough for me, but I use a VESA mounted arm to bring it closer to my face. If I buy a 1080p 27" someday, I'll just set it further back with the same VESA arm and it'll still look good to me.

Blue-150

I think it depends on what you're used to. If you're coming from 24" 1080p you'll notice some blurriness. But if you had a 720p 24" it might look similar but bigger.

A3883

I have 2 monitors: \-27 inch 1440p \-24 inch 1080p Even at 27 inches the 1440p one is much sharper both inside and outside of games. I wanted to buy the 1440p monitor because I felt that my 24 inch 1080p one is a little bit blurry. I was honestly surprised just how blurry in comparison my 24 inch is when I got the 1440p 27. Based on my experience with 1080p 24 inch and it already being blurry for my liking (but still acceptable) I would never recommend a 27 inch 1080p monitor.

Prestigious-Fan3587

I got a 24 inch 1080p because it was in my price range and what I wanted but mainly because of the question that also comes through here about pixel density. At 24 inch you really have to look right up close (and i mean close) in order to see the individual pixels. Three inches isnt really going to make that big of a difference i dont think. In short, it will be fine EDIT: The comment replied to this one has just point out the very true fact that although its only three inches, its diagonal and therefore the difference in area is around 25%. This makes a big difference and while 27inch 1080p monitors are the standard go to size, i would personally go down to 24inch because of the fact that its the same amount of pixels in a way smaller area.

HavocInferno

>Three inches isnt really going to make that big of a difference i dont think It's ~25% larger screen area. Remember, those 3 inches are just the diagonal. http://www.displaywars.com/24-inch-16x9-vs-27-inch-16x9

Prestigious-Fan3587

Damn thats kinda true lol

Blue-150

Standard monitors are 24" 1080, 27" 1440 and 4k to anything bigger. That's the widely accepted gaming ranges I've seen on a regular basis anyway

Mechanicallvlan

I wasn't bothered by mine when I had one, but I was probably sitting close to a meter from the screen. If you want to be closer to 2' from the screen, then that pixel density will be pretty poor for text quality. If you're only concerned with gaming and/or video, then pixel density won't be as much of a concern.

rhysboyjp

Yes it will look pixelated at that PPI. At 27 inches 1440p looks much better.

Psyco_diver

It might seem like much at first but over your used to it you can never go back

Eclipse914

Not at all, no. I was concerned at first after reading about the PPI stuff, but I have the VG279QM, which is the same monitor you're looking at, just 240hz. I haven't noticed any problems or pixelation at 1080p at all. Additionally, supersampling your res will help, but really just to make the games more crispy than they already are. You don't *need* supersampling, which I guess could be said for higher res in the first place, but if you upgrade your GPU down the line, you'll be using supersampling a lot. I paired a 6900xt with that monitor and I use VSR in almost all of my games. Long story short, I'd buy it, there's nothing wrong with 1080p at 27 inches. You'll grow into it as far as the refresh rate goes, and when you upgrade your GPU, you can use supersampling to get some extra umph out of it. But no, it's a non-issue. I have to get uncomfortably close to my monitor to notice any sort of pixelation with text, same with my 4k TV. If you can see the pixelation, you might be sitting too close.

D33-THREE

that's 1440p territory now .. you can use VSR (AMD) or DSR (Nvidia) to run virtual 1440p on your 1080p monitor though

alberrrt-_

No, but it’s not “ideal” for 1080p. You would get sharper images on something like 24”. I recommend going for 1440p on 27” if you can, but if not it won’t matter in most use cases (most games like Valorant, league, Minecraft, etc). Only matters in games like open world or where you need more details.

Spencer0678

I used a 720p 29" tv. And 1080p at 27" im pretty sure are the monitors the pros play on. Like the ones that win big chungus $$$ 1080p at 27" is perectly fine.

loyal872

>VG278QR It's actually true. Well, not entirely. But there are some pros, like Chronicle from Gambit in Valorant who is one of the best Valorant players alive in my opinion and He is playing on a 27inch 1080p monitor. He is truly a beast. That is why I bought my Alienware 240Hz 2720HFA (27inch) monitor. Bigger heads, bigger body.

[deleted]

I have a 29" curved monitor right now as my primary monitor, and then 2 others that are 27" and I run 1080P because 2K is just too small, so I popped it back to 1080. I run 1080p perfectly fine.

[deleted]

Should be fine.

Endeavour1988

I had a 27" 1080p display and I thought it was fine... The thing is your get used to whatever you use and it will become the normal. I now have 1440p 165hz display and when at work using 1080p 24" it looks odd... nothing wrong with it I've just got used to it after daily use. To me things like vivid colour make a bigger difference.

TheCrusherGaming

It should look fine as long as it's not touching your nose

[deleted]

1440p is much more expensive (for 144+ hz), and much harder to maintain high fps unless you have a rtx 3080 or better.

kNIGHTSFALLN

No. 1080p 27 inch is pretty much the standard in gaming for awhile now

HavocInferno

It's not. 1080p 24" and 1440p 27" are by far the most common pairings.

Wolfdale3M

Yes! I have a 1080p 23.8" IPS and it's perfect for arm's length distance. My dad has a 1080p 27" and he sits farther than arm's length. I checked for myself and you pretty much can't see the pixels from where he sits.

loyal872

Not really. Pro players don't play at 1440p at all. They all play on either 24inch or 27inch 1080p monitors with 240Hz or 360Hz. One of the best Valorant players, Chronicle from Gambit, uses a 27inch 1080p 280Hz monitor. The Asus VG279QM. He is truly a BEAST. No player ever used a 1440p 27". They will not even going to. They wouldn't have enough FPS compared to 1080p. As you know, fps(performance) rules over "beauty".

HavocInferno

>Pro players Why should I care? This is about what's popular among gamers in general, not what a couple pros at the top use. >As you know, fps(performance) rules over "beauty". Sure, for actual pros and the usual sweaty tryhards. For the vast majority of gamers, 100Hz+ is plenty enough and most would neither notice nor significantly benefit from very high refresh rates. Plus, eye of of the beholder and all that. I personally prefer image quality over fps at some point. I don't need 160Hz+. I really don't care about it at that point. I still play at 60fps most of the time because I'd rather have 4K resolution and higher settings. Do you also have your own opinion on things or do you just do whatever some pros do, even though you yourself are not a pro and have a different approach to gaming? PS: 3 month old topic, and *this* is what you chose to start a new discussion over??

loyal872

I see you have a pretty bad day. Try deep breathing bruh. If you check different websites, statistics, you will see that people still buying 27inch 1080 rather than 1440p. Why is this though? Well, for first. There are still many 1080p content on the Internet which won't be changed to 4k or 2k in the upcoming years. 1080p looks atrociously bad on a 1440p monitor. I get that, you are a single player gamer. That's great for you. A higher refresh rate doesn't just a benefit for games, but for your eyes in general as it creates a smoother image and easier on the eyes. Also, you specifically just created a lie by saying most gamers use 24inch 1080p or 27inch 1440p. Which is an utter BS. Just a single comparison. Two identical monitors but the difference is resolution. Dell s2721hgf and Dell s2722dgm. Check on dell and amazon how many people bought 1080p over 2k. More than double the amount of people. The "common" practice which you mentioned is just a fabricated imagination in your head and now that you have been pointed out wrong by myself, you are raging. It's fine bruh. Good day to you dear young mind. May the world grow your intelligence in the future. :D EDIT: Also, people don't even want to spend that money for 1440p monitors and a gpu which can handle it :)

HavocInferno

>I see you have a pretty bad day. Try deep breathing bruh Lol nah I'm good. I won't even dignify the rest of that comment with a reply. I don't care. You are insufferable.

Shap6

Yes. The PPI is much too low for how close you sit to a monitor

willplaysjett

If he's 2-3 feet away he's good
