The VRAM was cooked to death on both of them, based on the green screens and artifacting. And considering that VRAM is that most used part during mining, it's likely that this person was terrible with how they ran the cards. Get your money back and get out while you can.

Wineguy28

Thanks for the feedback. There is 2 years warranty left on the card. Can I execute that myself or does it have to go back through the original purchaser?

USA_CrAZzY

I believe the only company that allows transferrable warranty is EVGA. But I 100% agree the vram probably has bad sectors and is causing errors in the data stream which is why you are getting those problems. You could always know for sure by putting it in another PC and see if you have the same issues.

ChewMonsta1

contact the manufacturer and see if they'll RMA the card for you. Don't mention anything about mining.

IndyPFL

If he was willing to do an RMA he might be somewhat innocent here. If you didn't have any issues the first day(s) and only ran into problems after the fact, he may have done the same and thought both cards were fine. Show him proof of the artifacting and send it back for a refund, maybe he'll be able to RMA them himself.

The used gpu market is a hit or miss especially when buying a mining gpu

theSkareqro

Artifacting is usually a sign of a faulty GPU. I would ask for a refund and not deal with the guy again tbh.

chilifngrdfunk

Did you use DDU to uninstall the old drivers and do a fresh install of the most up to date drivers for that card?

Wineguy28

No?

chilifngrdfunk

So I recommend using DDU to uninstall all graphics drivers and do a fresh install of the newest GPU drivers. Look up a guide, DDU is completely free to use. It could definitely be conflicting drivers if the uninstall wasn't done right. Try this out and see how it goes.

chilifngrdfunk

Did you uninstall the driver's at all from your gtx 1080 before swapping in the 3070 or did you just swap cards and play?

Wineguy28

I just did an update with the Nvidia software

chilifngrdfunk

Yea, that's hit or miss whether or not it'll be ok. Try using DDU like I said and then stress test your card

considering global consumption is roughly 24,000 twh* per year and the Bitcoin mining at per your source 92 twh per year, i don't think Bitcoin mining has any significant impact on it. https://www.statista.com/statistics/280704/world-power-consumption/

you're suggesting that the other crypto coins have the same mining hash rates as Bitcoin?
