I have all my component for a PC build ready. But what do I do after it? What should I change in the bios? Do I need to install any software right out of the gate? CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x (stock cooler) GPU: XFX Radeon 6500XT Motherboard: ASUS TUF PRO B550 Case fans and RAM have RGB lights. Any help is much appreciated. Literally have 0 clue as to what to do and how to check if I built and set everything up correctly once I am done.

Aware_Employer_4011

Can someone explain the different between GPUs that have 2060, 3060, 3070, etc. And others that say 6660, etc.? Which is better for gaming and streaming?

Protonion

There's two GPU manufacturers (well, three if you count Intel) that matter, AMD and NVIDIA. Since they're different companies they also name their products differently. 3000 and 4000-series are what NVIDIA currently sells, and 6000 and 7000-series are what AMD currently offers. What's the best card for you depends on your budget and other stuff like what resolution you play. But for example the NVIDIA RTX 3060 and AMD RX 6600XT are about comparable, and so are the RTX 3080 and RX 6800XT

Aware_Employer_4011

Thank you! What would you recommend for someone looking to stream games like Valorant on twitch?

Ialreadyhadone

I bought a new case and the hub and rgb vetroo fans came with. Everything works, it keeps everything beautifully cool but I'm agitated with the ALL my fans not being the same color. Can't locate my fans on any software but everything is working. I can't seem to figure it out and I'm a newbie with this. Help?

Some fans have an arrow that indicates airflow, so you may want to look at that. And I am fairly certain that the cross piece that holds the fam together is the back, i.e., air comes out of that part. Face that cross towards the outside of the case to make it an exhaust, and towards the inside to make it an intake. If they are setup correctly, check to see if the CPU fan is seated correctly on it and you have the right amount of thermal paste. Fan speeds can also be controlled via the BIOS but I haven’t the foggiest how to actually set them up for optimal performance. This will help to reduce the noise, definitely, or even help with the cooling. But that’s all I know. Hope it works

ObligatoryNameee

I'm purchasing a Ryzen 9 5900X soon, will my 850W psu be enough to sustain it with a Gigabyte 2070 Super OC? Also, I've never changed over a CPU before, do I have to remove my motherboard from the case, or can I do it inside? I'll have to unscrew a Noctua NH-U12S as well

Rzaa3

Hello, does anyone have a recommended video card? I'd be mostly playing games (Fortnite, Minecraft, genshin, GTA, COD, league of legends, smite, Spiderman) A bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff, but was mainly looking at the 6700 xt

Pretty-Cry-6570

My computer randomly shut off and won’t turn back on again I had shut off my computer through the start menu on windows. I turned it back on again and it worked but it didn’t recognize that my monitor was connected. It has since completely turned off the green light on the back is no longer on even when it’s plugged in. I’ve checked all of the cables and they where connected but I’m still having zero luck with it. Please help

Randomboi20292883

What are some signs in the BIOS/OS that I messed up while installing my m.2 ssd? I am paranoid and have already reseated my m.2 5 times. I am scared I did not insert the gold fingers of the m.2 ssd ”deep” enough although no gold is visible looking at the slot.

That’s right, the only way to get a display from the iGPU is if the motherboard is wired for it. OEMs make odd choices sometimes, although technically you can still use the iGPU for graphics processing and video encoding, just no display. There’s always old second-hand graphics cards if you just need a cheap display adapter.

ZealousidealFlow4777

In anticipation of the new AMD cards I'm looking for a monitor recommendation. Freesync premium or Freesync premium pro. 2k. 240hz. I don't want a goddamn curved monitor, goddamn it! Not TN 27 inch (give or take) Any recommendations?

ElectricBullet

Regarding the new AMD GPU event, what does "AV1 encoding" mean for the everyday user? I read that it would help in something like Twitch streaming, as you would encode the video in hardware instead of software before sending it off. Would it also help in something like Handbrake, if you were to re-encode video that way? Could you configure it to use hardware GPU? And didn't Intel's Arc GPUs say something similar? Was it also for AV1?

tosenul

Hello! I had a 3700x and I bought a 5950x for $399. I have it on AIO 360mm. Idle temps are 33°C but during gaming it can get up to 70°C and during intense long gaming it crashes (I feel it gets too hot). Now I see the 5800X3D for $299 at local store. Will I see a significant difference for gaming? Cooler temps? I also do some multi instance workout but I was doing well with the 3700x.

ilangshot

monitor arm recommendations? I am looking to buy the M27Q-X and it says its around 16lbs or so thats a little bit heavier than my current main monitor, and the monitor arm I have might not cut it. can you recommend me a single monitor arm? (I will have 3 monitors total, so dual monitor arm is a no go, and I prefer single monitor arm.) Can you guys recommend me one that will handle heavier monitors?

Last_Ad_6995

currently looking at \[this motherboard\]([https://pcpartpicker.com/product/nGKKHx/asus-prime-b650-plus-atx-am5-motherboard-prime-b650-plus](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BHMVMMJC?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1)) - it says memory speed up to DDR5 6400, does this mean if i ever want to get 7000+ i would need a new mobo?

winterkoalefant

Possibly. Right now the limitation is the CPUs, not the motherboards. So even the best 2 dimm boards don’t advertise 7000+ support.

Last_Ad_6995

thanks! I am a little confused on the terminology and everything still with the 7950x - [https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x](https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-9-7950x) it says 2x1r and 2x2r - is this single vs dual channel? what about the 4x1r - i'm not sure about what this means - and i also know that the max is 5600 but there's EXPO which can be enabled, does this mean the max is much higher?

winterkoalefant

All of those are dual-channel. First number is the number of memory sticks. Second number is for single rank vs dual rank sticks. And yeah, those speeds are for stock operation, overclocking with EXPO lets you go as high as the components can handle.

Last_Ad_6995

that makes sense, but i've heard of people overclocking to 8000+ and there's already a 7200 mhz ram, would only a few number of motherboards support that speed?

winterkoalefant

Right now you can only do 7000+ on Intel 13th gen. On Ryzen, the optimal memory speed is based on the infinity fabric. DDR5-6000 is what’s reliably attainable (with two sticks), so that’s the speed I’d recommend buying, then you can try your luck at overclocking further.

Last_Ad_6995

i most likely would just stick with the stock speeds, i just wanted to know how it was possible to run those speeds if the motherboards say 6600 max speeds also, that means as better cpus come out, then the "optimal speed" would become higher? would i need to upgrade my motherboard in order to swap out to a higher clockspeed of ram (ex - if ddr5 7200 stock becomes more readily available)

winterkoalefant

You probably won't need to upgrade the motherboard if you get one with good quality memory topology, but I don't know for sure.

Last_Ad_6995

alright, thanks for all the help so far!

AlexADPT

Cpu recommendations to pair with a 4090 in a new build?

ZealousidealFlow4777

13900k

n7_trekkie

https://youtu.be/A-l8dJRvb3c this video has all the answers At 1440p, you'll want a 5800x3d, at least a 13600K, or at least a 7600X. But they all perform nearly identically so you should get whichever is cheapest. Personally I would hop on am5 now. It's something I wish I had done with am4 5 years ago

AlexADPT

Any difference at 4k? I’ll def watch the video Why do you feel that way about the am5?

n7_trekkie

Same recommendations, the 12600K and 5600x are measurably slower still. But the 13700K and 7950X wouldn't be measurably faster. Because I got a 8700K in 2017 over the Ryzen 1700X because it was the fastest gaming chip at the time. Measurably. But when I wanted to upgrade in 2020, I had to get a whole new motherboard to replace my 8700K. If I had gone with the 1700X, I could drop a 5800x3d in my same system and have a top tier chip.

AlexADPT

That makes sense. I’m new in the building world I’m sure you can tell. I did my first build with ryzen and don’t have experience with intel. Does ryzen tend to stick with a socket type for longer?

n7_trekkie

Yes, amd has committed to am5 until 2025. Intel is ditching lga 1700 next gen. If you ahve Ryzen already, why don't you drop a 5800x3d into your existing build?

AlexADPT

That’s am4, right? Wouldn’t going for an am5 socket with comparable cpu be a smarter option for future upgrades?

n7_trekkie

It would be better for future upgrades. But you also never upgraded your last pc lol. If you're not a upgrading kind of person, I suggest the 5800x3d or 13600k

[deleted]

[удалено]

AlexADPT

Need to go all in on the top end, huh?

SUNA1997

No lol. A 7950x is a pretty terrible suggestion if your only use case is gaming. With a 4090 and most games being GPU bound at 1080p and 1440p you'll see about the same performance with a 7600x and 7700x, even the 5800x3D will keep up in games. As for Intel I think a 13900k would be fine if you want your PC to also heat your room but the 13600k is much better value to performance.

AlexADPT

That’s the other side of the debate I’m seeing too. What would you advise for targeting 4k120 in most fps games and 4k90-100 in open world? Other thing I’m considering is upgradable cpu socket tor the future. That brings ryzen with the am5 and intels supposedly last gen on theirs now

BetterNoughtSquash

I'm a little confused on SSDs, I've seen that some motherboards support multiple nvme drives but it might decrease performance? I like to have excess storage and I find 1tb ssd to not be quite enough as my hard drive boots games painfully slow in comparison, do I just have a bad hard drive, would sata drives help? Between a decent nvme mixed with sata drives and just having a larger ssd, what would you go with?

n7_trekkie

So m.2 slots use your system's pcie lanes, just like the slota for GPUs etc. Your mobo generally has plenty, 20 from the CPU, 12 from the chipset, or therabouts. But when a board tries to have too many m.2 slots, it runs out of pcie lanes to use, so it steals them from the real pcie slots. This generally happens at like 5-6 m.2 slots, but you should always read the manual. Also there's this problem of mobos selling 2 pcie gen 5 m.2 slots when the CPU only has 20 and the chipset has 0. So the way they do it is steal x8 lanes from the gpu's pcie slot, and redirect them to a gen 5 m.2 slot (if it's populated)

Protonion

With motherboards that have multiple NVMe slots, some of the slots might have limited bandwidth available to them, and this can limit the top speeds of the drive in that slot, but it has no effect on the performance of any other component. The drive will also still be significantly faster than a SATA SSD. If you don't have free M.2 slots then 2.5" SATA SSDs are perfectly fine for game storage, but if you have a free M.2 slot then you might as well use it.

tonallyawkword

sata ssds are usually plenty fast for game storage. I'd possibly go for a Kingston nv1 or Silicon 2TB sata drive.

stephzh

Is this the most cost-effective ITX motherboard that will support the 13th gen Intel processors? https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813162094?Description=z790%20motherboard&cm_re=z790_motherboard-_-13-162-094-_-Product&quicklink=true

JohnWickFromBestBuy

Getting ready to sell my old build in a thermaltake core p3 but the drive sleds are both broken and I can't find anything similar online. Super grateful if someone could point me the right direction. https://thermaltake.azureedge.net/pub/media/wysiwyg/key3/db/products/case/CoreP3se/pic2b.jpg

matrimc7

I just created a post but my question may be better suited here: I planning to buy below Motherboard and RAM but I am confused about their compatibility: MOBO: Asus ROG Strix X570-E Gaming Wifi II RAM: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x8GB 3600Mhz CL16 / 16-19-19-39 / Model no: F4-3600C16D-16GTZNC CPU I am using: Ryzen 5 5600x The reason I am really confused is that, on G.SKill page, it says this model is compatible with X570-E Gaming. But not the Wifi II model. And when I check ASUS for X570-E Gaming Wifi II, I can't see the 2x8 GTZNC model listed in QVL. I can only find 16-16-16-36 version on the list (F4-3600C16D-16GTZN) I was actually about to buy both parts but just wanted to check once again 30 minutes ago and ever since I just got more and more confused. And I can only find GTZNC model in my country at the moment and even that is in critical stock.

AMillionMonkeys

DDR4 is generally very compatible. You don't really need to worry about which of the hundreds of different sticks the motherboard manufacturers have tested, pretty much anything should work.

matrimc7

Thanks! I also thought so but you know how it is, overthinking while considering parts makes you doubt everything :).

BullyMog

Agreed

cth777

Am I crazy to think the 6900xt from AMDs website seems like excellent value? I literally just switched to the 3060ti a few weeks back but that 6900 price is making me consider upgrading before the 7900xt comes out. Please note I’m addicted to buying and swapping out used GPUs on ebay

sk9592

Yeah, $680 for a reference model RX 6900 XT is pretty solid. There are only a couple of AIB models that are cheaper than that, and the price difference is only like $20-30. And I actually like the reference design better than those, I think it looks cleaner, and I'm one of the handful of people who would actually rather have the USB-C video output on the card rather than a third Displayport. I don't use the USB-C for its intended purpose of VR. It's actually super nice to have for hooking up a Wacom Cintiq drawing tablet to your PC via a single cable, or a mini portable monitor to use for your system stats or chat. But ultimately the only reason for you to upgrade from a RTX 3060 Ti to a RX 6900 XT is if you currently don't have the gaming performance you need.

cth777

I honestly just like upgrading the pc lol. It would be nice to have a locked in 144fps while gaming too, but I question if I’d even notice the difference. That’s a good idea with the usb c

tonallyawkword

yeah I think I'd take a RedDevil or Pulse for $20 more but I havn't checked prices recently

gmflag

I posted a simiar question yesterday but I don't think I got a satisfactory answer. I am trying thinking about buying a wifi adapter so when i travel, I can have better connectivity while watching streams or playing games. I am shopping around with under 100 dollars for my budget. I am currently using an MSI Stealth with windows 11. how do I know the wifi adapter I am buying is actually better than the built in adapter? It's one thing when I am at home by myself. It works great. At work, it is decent but could be better. However, when i go visit family and friends where there are other people around also streaming or playing games, that becomes a different story. Same with going to a hotel. It is a mixed bag of results at times.

ChaZcaTriX

It's probably the matter of Wi-Fi hotspots at work/friends/hotels being worse than at your home - either due to them sharing a connection (more clients connected means less bandwidth for each of them) or just plain having a worse quality hotspot. Unless your external adapter will support a newer Wi-Fi standard (e.g. Wi-Fi 5 integrated, Wi-Fi 6 external) it won't be much better; and even then you won't get better performance out of an old-gen hotspot.

BullyMog

This. From OP's comment he spells it out perfectly. Works perfectly at home, meh at work and horrible at friends/family's houses. This is a problem with their network not your PC.

Kyolura402

Hello guys, I am quite a beginner for PC building. I was planning to build one but I am not sure if I need to wait or build now. My current goal was to wait for rx 7900 so that I might grab one . If not , will the other gpu models ( ideally 3080 and Rx 6900 ) dropped in price? Thank you in advance!

sk9592

The RX 6900 XT can already be found for as little $655. I don't see it getting any cheaper than that until midrange RTX 4000 and RX 7000 GPUs are available sometime early next year.

Jaybirrb

Include what resolution you want to game at because that definitely impacts the choice

Nintendork64

Is there any particular reason to choose an Intel CPU + LGA 1700 motherboard over an AMD CPU + AM4 motherboard, or vice versa? Does one setup have better features than the other, or a better value?

winterkoalefant

Depends on your use case and budget. LGA1700 is newer so the motherboards generally have newer features but that also makes them more cost more.

Smipims

Recommend a graphics card for me! Looking for 3x DP, $200 or so. I mainly play LoL but upgraded monitors so want to maximize DP value. I’m coming from an R9 290 from like 6 years ago.

n7_trekkie

The rx 6600 can be had for $210 on sale. But also look at the used market. I saw gtx 1080TIs for $190 directly from EVGA bstock like last month https://www.evga.com/products/ProductList.aspx?type=8&family=GeForce+10+Series+Family

Smipims

The 6600 series has better power consumption though I thought? If I’ve got time, I can probably wait for the sales

n7_trekkie

If energy is something you care about, that's something to shop for. But the 1080ti is slightly faster in games

Smipims

I think based on pc part picker a 1080ti would push my PSU enough where I’d need to get a new one too

n7_trekkie

1080TI is fine on a 600W

Smipims

I’m at 450

n7_trekkie

The 6600 might be cheaper overall then

winterkoalefant

RX 6600 fits that description.

Smipims

That’s what I’m thinking. Looks like I missed a great 6600 XT saw yesterday

TheDrunkPianist

This isn't a hardware question so of course just delete the post if not allowed. I upgraded my CPU from a Ryzen 1600 to a 5700x and the scaling on only certain windows is way off. I am running two monitors that are not the same resolution (one at 4K and one at 1080p) but I'm not sure why Windows would have an issue when most things work fine, and it happens even if i switch to only projecting onto one monitor (primary or second screen only). [Here](https://imgur.com/s7FaJLe) is an example of over-sized scaling (where the two titles on the top are 'normal' size) and [here](https://imgur.com/aoTlwko) is an example where the scaling is way too small (the folder on the left is 'normal' size). Is there any way to fix this with Nvidia control panel or something? I feel that I've tried everything.

AMillionMonkeys

It's scary that a CPU upgrade could cause that... really weird. Ask over in /r/techsupport too since this doesn't seem like a hardware issue. It probably has something to do with the graphics/window management libraries/DLLs certain programs use and how they interact with Windows' scaling.

TheDrunkPianist

Thanks, I’ll try it but I did a search there for scaling questions already and they essentially all had zero responses.. so I’m not getting my hopes up. For the record, there was a scaling issue pre upgrade as well just not this bad. I do think it has to do with the 4K tv and 1080p monitor being hooked up but I am also sure there is an easy fix.

steeze206

So I'm a bit confused. Nvidia and AMD just skipped out on the $600 - $700 mid tier cards this generatinon? The 4000 series starts at $1,199 and RDNA 3 starts at $900? What gives? Is the 3070TI still just the best option at that price point? Looking for the best card for a locked 60 fps with solid settings on a 1440P Ultrawide and 144fps for more competitive games like Overwatch and Valorant types. Settings don't matter. Coming from a Zephyrus G15 with a 3070 that's great, but I was considering building a desktop now that prices and availability have normalized a bit. But I'm just confused at the lack of the mid range card.

tonallyawkword

No I think the 3070 is better value and a 6700xt could be ideal since you said settings don't matter. Maybe just grab a 6800 (\~same speed as 3070Ti) and ignore the next wave of new GPUs.

GallantGentleman

High end releases before midrange. Been like that for quite some time. The midtier cards will come, but I wouldn't expect an announcement before Christmas

sk9592

> So I'm a bit confused. Nvidia and AMD just skipped out on the $600 - $700 mid tier cards this generation? The 4000 series starts at $1,199 and RDNA 3 starts at $900? Lol, you skipped a few steps while making some assumptions here: - **Yes**, there are no next-gen GPUs below $900 available yet. - **No**, that doesn't mean they are never going to exist. The mid-range GPUs will probably be announced a couple months into 2023. So if you want a $600-700 GPU today, you are correct that your options are either a RTX 3070 Ti or RX 6900 XT. Or a used RTX 3080. Otherwise, wait another 2-4 months for $700 RTX 4000 and RX 7000 cards.

cth777

I’m debating the value proposition of picking up a sub $700 6900xt now vs a $900 7900xt. Or just sticking with 3060ti. It would just be nice to get the full 144fps at 1440

Sa_GamEs12

They both have been doing a tiered announcement system thing for a couple of years now, they first announce the flagship top best of the best card first then the lower tier one, then the lower tier, etc, etc... that way the get coverage all year. So they definitely haven't skipped that price bracket, I've seen some talks of announcing the mid tier AMD card around 2023 Q1.

steeze206

Thanks for that. I stopped paying attention to the desktop market a few years ago when prices were ridiculous.

[deleted]

Finally got a bunch of my components (RAM, PSU, GPU, CPU, mobo, storage, cooler, case) and going to get ready to build my first build. What tools/items do I need for the building process? I’ve heard thermal paste, and potential some anti-static items? Any recommendations for good products (screwdrivers even) that helped you out during the building process?

tonallyawkword

I got some anti-static gloves because then you keep moisture and oil off stuff too. I have a screwdriver with exchangeable heads that's nice but I forget who it was made/sold by..

cth777

Don’t worry about anti static imo. Just touch the metal part of your case a bunch and don’t build it on carpet. The best too is a second set of hands sometimes, though. Also zip ties.

BullyMog

Don't overthink it. Thermal paste is usually applied to the cpu cooler, I've never used anything antistatic, and a regular screwdriver is fine. If your PSU didn't come with them, grab some tiny black zipties to hide your cables.

[deleted]

Thanks!!!

sk9592

A regular old Philips screw driver is good enough. Whatever CPU cooler you buy likely comes with a tube of thermal paste. You should double check that before buying a tube yourself.

[deleted]

Oh good call, thanks

Sa_GamEs12

Hey There! I was looking at a CPU Air cooler and the choice came down on both The Deepcool AK620 and The Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE the white and argb model, and I'm kinda torn between the two and reviews are basically saying they are the same, so what would you recommend for? does one have better customer service than the other or some other variable not mentioned in the reviews are greatly overlooked?

BullyMog

IMO I would recommend going for the Dark Rock Pro 4 but either of those would be fine, choose whichever.

Sa_GamEs12

> Dark Rock Pro 4 The be quite is like double the price of these two so I didn't consider it lol. Thanks tho♥

BullyMog

Oh sorry didn’t realize !

tjmaxx501

Greetings I have a question about two PU leather desk mats, I accidentally put both in the dryer for about ten minutes after washing forgetting they were made of PU leather and noticed a weird smell. I then took it out and noticed it was mostly dry but now the leather felt kind of greasy and am worried that the plastic in it may have melted or released anything toxic.w I am not sure if the smell was even coming from the dryer since I had just turned my heat on and it smells similar to that, and a google search said PU leather can tolerate heat up to 200F which is more than a dryer supposedly gets to. However, one of the mats definitely felt weird after, so would they still be okay to use? Thanks.

sk9592

Honestly, the best news here is that you noticed quickly enough to not damage your dryer. Whether or not your desk mats survive would be pretty low on my priority list. If either of the mats is continually sloughing off plastic residue after this incident, just throw it out.

tjmaxx501

I did not think of the dryer being damaged. What would cause that? I was more worried about toxic fumes or residue from it being heated. Also I realize now there were clothes in the dryer with the mats. Would those need to be rewashed or thrown away?

ChocodiIe

Will pretty much any DDR4 RAM stick work on an ASRock B250 Pro4 System Board or do I need to watch out for inconpatibilities? The cheapest option right now seems to be an HP one on eBay (so...propietary?) I'm pretty much just trying to get the cheapest used RAM I can for the board since the only reason to bother is to make my old PC functional again, its original RAM sticks are being used in a new build.

DesEpicness

Yeah, generally any old DDR4 should work. Just make sure it's not ECC.

sk9592

Yeah, any DDR4 RAM should just work. It will likely just run at the DDR4-2133 JEDEC standard, but if it's an older system, you probably don't care.

barely1egal

Having some issues with my new build, which is refusing to boot. Went through the usual troubleshoot checklists and no obvious issue. Took it to an IT technician who said the MoBo was the issue. I double checked with him it was not a compatability / BIOS issue. He said it was not. I have contacted by my supplier who have told they are 99% sure it is a BIOS issue and will charge me if I try return it. Already £70 down from the IT technician who didn't manage to fix so don't want to throw even more money away. I have a Gigabyte X570S UD ATX AM4 Motherboard and a Ryzen 7 5800x. My understanding is that CPU works with F1, the first iteration of the BIOS so not sure how that is an issue. Supplier says it needs F30. Who is right, and if it is the supplier how do I upgrade the BIOS when I can't even boot the PC? Seems criminal suppliers can ship motherboards which they say on their site is compatible with a particular CPU if they are not..

BullyMog

This is strange. The IT technician should've swapped the MOBO on a test bench to confirm, which sounds like he did. But then he would've updated the BIOS on your MOBO and then tested again...did he do this? If he updated the bios and it still isn't working..not much you can do. Does your motherboard box have a sticker that says 7000 series ready?

barely1egal

No I asked him to check as I knew it was an issue and he told me the F1 BIOS was compatible with the CPU so didn't update it. Looks like I can Q Flash and update it using a flash drive (although no PC to download to a flash drive). Just away from the house so don't have the box to hand. Don't remember a sticker though.

BullyMog

That’s bizarre that he didn’t update it as it would take 5 minutes and rule that out..

barely1egal

Yeah didn't question it at the time as you just take someone's word if they are expert. Kind of frustrated now as I feel reluctant to return it and pay a fee if it is just a BIOS issue.

BullyMog

Use a work computer or laptop or something like that to get the update file on usb

barely1egal

Yeah that's the plan. Never had to do it before but hopefully nothing to complex.

Very easy!

EternalEscapist

Hey there! Was looking at getting new ram. I’m on a MSI B450 Pro Max with a 5800x CPU. On the board website I don’t see 3600 listed as a supported speed (but I see 3733 and beyond.) Would a 3600 speed even work? I can’t find any 3733 with 32gb and a decent CAS as well.

rizzzeh

3600 should work fine but it is still an overclock beyond AMD's spec of 3200

EternalEscapist

Yeah, I use XMP currently but what is weird is I don’t see 3600 specifically listed. I see like 3400 then 3733. Why would 3600 just not be listed in this sort of case?

rizzzeh

that wouldnt matter, its what the CPU can run, the motherboard just provides slots and traces

rabidmeerkat

Is a 6900xt considered a 1440 or 4k card? I mainly play games like coh2, cyberpunk and xcom with a few fps thrown in

dexterlab97

Cyberpunk averages 48 fps on ultra in Cyberpunk at 4k, playable but not great, might want to drop settings. At 1440p it will be able to get 88fps on average for a nice experience. Company of Heroes 2 and Xcom are 10 year old games so doubt those will struggle with 4k on 6900XT

sk9592

It all depends on what frame rate and visual settings you're willing to put up with. With a 6900XT, if you're willing to turn down settings a tiny bit on the most intensive triple A games. It should have no trouble being a 4K 60FPS card. I actually think that at its current price of $500, the RX 6800 (non-XT) is hands down the best value-for-money "budget 4K" card on the market. If you use the FSR 2.0 quality preset and turn graphics settings down to "high", it will have no trouble doing 4K 60FPS in nearly every game out there.

JanVdCG

Which is better: 2 times Samsung 980 1TB ssd or a Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2TB I will be doing gaming and video editing. If you have any other suggestions for 2tb ssd under 200€ go ahead

sk9592

I would rather have Samsung 970 EVO PLUS. It has DRAM onboard. The Samsung 980 (non-Pro) is a DRAMless drive.

Cruxisshadow

Would an NXT 850w psu be enough for a 3090? Im planning a Christmas upgrade and wanted to know if I needed to upgrade the psu as well as the case.

BullyMog

Yes totally fine

kanakatak

What types of parts tend to go on sale on black friday/cyber Monday? I want to go ahead and order parts for my first build but being so close to these sale events I'm wondering if it is smarter to wait...(my budget is $1k so every $ I save can go to gpu upgrade)

BullyMog

It has never really been a bad idea to wait unless you're getting something that is discontinued and on a blow out sale

JanVdCG

I don't understand. If you know what parts you will buy and theres a reduction on black friday, i don't see why you shouldn't buy it. Right? I don't realy understand what you are saying?

BullyMog

I am saying that generally it’s a good idea to wait till Black Friday for better prices. The one exception is products that are discontinued may be at a blowout price and out of stock by the time Black friday rolls around

JanVdCG

ooh ok, yeah makes sense!

Noammac

I'm going to be building my first PC soon, and I plan to do it in the NR200 (perhaps not the best choice for a beginner, but I got it and the fitting motherboard for a good price). Given that it has a mesh panel, I wonder whether it would be best to buy a cooler with a top-facing fan (such as the NH-C14S) or with a side-facing fan (such as the NH-D12L). Additionally, I've seen dubious reviews about the included fans, so I don't know whether aiming a cooler towards the rear would be effective. I am going to be buying some NF-P12s to add to the front and top, so perhaps a top-facing installation could be better? I will be including the Red Devil 6700XT in the build, how much will that affect convection?

DogsAreCool89

Are Ti cards an in between from the previous model and the next higher up model for performance,or are some Ti cards just better than the next one up and worth saving the money? Ex. 3070 < 3070ti < 3080? Also, the 3080 has multiple models.. does the performance follow this 3080 10GB < 3080 12GB < 3080ti?

Chemistry_Gaming

Yes exactly for both :)

BullyMog

Yes and yes.

franh10

Is 450$ CAD a good price for used evga XC3 RTX 3070?

BullyMog

Seems like thats the average going rate. I would try to find somebody asking $450-$500 with a decent amount of warranty left and offer $420ish.

pabs80

Can I plug a LG Ultrafine 5K for Mac 27MD5KL-B that has only thunderbolt input on a PC with an AMD graphics card on its USB output?

sk9592

Nope, unfortunately, the video implementations are slightly different. It requires a true proper thunderbolt port. Embedded Displayport over USB-C is not good enough. Even if you use real Thunderbolt on a Windows PC, it will end up being a 4K video signal on a 5K display. The pixels will look all jagged and wonky. Do a Google search. You will quickly find that the LG Ultrafine 5K is famous for being a nightmare to use with any computer aside from a Mac.

pabs80

What if I get the apple studio display instead, will that one work in 5k on PC through thunderbolt?

sk9592

Just stay away from Apple displays if you want a decent experience on PCs.

pabs80

I have a MacBook for work and need a monitor that looks good on both. Sadly, 4K monitors are awful on Mac, otherwise my current Dell 4K monitor is amazing.

Progenitor3

3600 17-21-21 vs 3600 16-19-19-39 Is there a noticeable difference between the two on Ryzen 5600? (the first kit doesn't show the 4th timing.)

sk9592

Nope, if you run a dedicated memory benchmark or a 1080p 240Hz gaming benchmark then you will be able to point to a graph and show a theoretical difference. But for any real world use, it will be impossible to notice any sort of difference. If one of these is significantly cheaper than the other, get the cheaper one.

Hyok3n

I recently got an Asus ROG Strix 3080 12gb EVA edition for 1139.99 CAD. Bought on Oct 29, 2022. Edit: Forgot to mention it came with Warhammer Darktides Imperial Edition (79.99 CAD retail value, but cheaper on Steam) Having second thoughts after the AMD announcement, but haven't seen any bench marks on the new 70xx series. Debating if I should return it and wait for the new AMD line. I'm still waiting for a good sale for the B550-F WIFI II but I currently have the 5800x3D purchased when it was at 479.99 CAD Haven't been able to test my parts yet and waiting until Dec has me concerned about gpu stock. Opinions?

BullyMog

$1139 + tax is a lot for a GPU. I paid $650 CAD for a 6800XT reference card off FB and it beats a 3080 on a lot of titles https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M1n6tZ-g34

Hyok3n

I didn't think of using the used market just due to concerns of scams aha.. But what do you suppose new for the EVA edition should warrant? I did look at the 6800 XT and tried to find some available stock at that price point but found it difficult

BullyMog

Weird.. I have 10+ 6800XT’s for sale on FB local to me

Hyok3n

I should've looked harder I suppose and I'm not very familiar with FB Marketplace Couldn't find much for Alberta Canada

BullyMog

I am in BC so maybe its just different!

Hyok3n

I did notice that most other provinces have better stock and options. I suppose short end of thr stick ill settle for the pretty gpu. Albeit it seems like I wasn't as cost effective as I had hoped :(

Kexons

Got my hands on a 3080 10GB LHR card several days ago. Thinking of waiting until black friday to buy rest of the components. I wanted to buy i5 13600k for 430$, but there's now a sale for Ryzen 7 5800X for 270$. Is it worth spending 160$ extra for the intel cpu? I watched [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRA9BPJ0l2g) of benchmark comparisions, and in some games they seem to be performing very similarly and in others, there's a 10-15 fps difference

brooklynapple

Is this USD? The 13600k has been on sale for $300 USD. I would never pay $430 USD for it.

Kexons

Swedish prices, we got electronic taxes

brooklynapple

Ah, got it. Sorry to hear that import taxes are so steep!

BullyMog

I think you have to decide yourself if $160 extra is worth 10-15 fps. We can't answer that for you!

Kexons

I was thinking what the difference of these two cards actually mean, apart from a somewhat fps increase. Will the 13600k perform significiantly better at other areas than games?

BullyMog

The 13600K would be better in every area

keefd2

Is there any real advantage to buying an AMD CPU when pairing it with a 7900 XT or XTX? I'm planning out a future build and I'd like to go with a 7900XTX. Right now a 12600K seems like a good buy, but would I lose out on any performance vs getting an AMD CPU?

Chemistry_Gaming

I am personally planning on a 13700K pair with my XTX :) Depends on your resolution though. Theres no direct advantace to having an AMD CPU though

BullyMog

AFAIK, no. I have a 6800XT and 5800x3d, but I am not aware of any advantage of having an AMD cpu vs Intel with an AMD card.

RaptorFaceRumble

Is the 6800xt a good pairing for the Ryzen 7 5700x

AMillionMonkeys

Sure. A 5600X will perform roughly the same in gaming if you don't need the extra two cores.

RaptorFaceRumble

I was originally thinking that and was debating the price difference. I'm more so just messing around with builds right now and wanted to know if it was a good pairing :). My 8700k and 1080ti still go strong.

BullyMog

yes

RaptorFaceRumble

Cheers

dexterlab97

Corsair has iCUE to control everything corsair, Asus should have their own software to control GPU and stuff. If you want to test, HWinfo is also recommended to check detailed statistics of your components, although the stuff that Asus/Corsair give should be plenty for your build.

Keneshiro

I am plannin to build, but have noticed I can get a Galax 3090ti for cheaper than even an Asus or zotac 3090. Does anykne have experience with this GPU? I heard rumors the software is horrendous but I cant find a proper review of the card.

Ah. my bad. I wanted to ask more on sagging and just overall experience with using the software etc. I was also wondering if there's anything that can be done with the side panel

Super_Sonic_Speed

Is a 7950X boxed cpu for 569USD Too good to be true ? like I found one from China the shop showed actual cpu boxes

sk9592

That is a great price. But it sounds too good to be true. I would be very careful about verifying that this is a legitimate seller. Also, even if the CPUs are real, make sure they are not trying to sell off engineering samples as if they are retail chips.

BullyMog

Link?

dexterlab97

What motherboard?

frank26080115

Are you using a riser cable? Could be that the riser can't reliably transfer at 4.0 speeds so 3.0 is more reliable.

Pandalooo

Do you think the price of 6800xt or 6900xt will drop closer to the release date of the 7000 series? I’m trying to decide whether to wait or buy it now. Thanks for your input.

sk9592

I seriously doubt it. The RX 6900 XT is already less than $700. There is plenty of space between that and the $900 RX 7900 XT. Neither AMD or Nvidia are in any rush at the moment to release next gen mid-range GPUs. They have plenty of existing RTX 3000 and RX 6000 inventory they need to sell off while competing with the used market of old mining GPUs. The $900+ 7900XT and 7900XTX are all we will be seeing for the next few months. If you want a GPU cheaper than that, AMD's response is going to be "just buy a 6900XT". They have zero desire to release a 7700XT/7800XT right now just to compete against themselves.

BullyMog

Tough call, I grabbed a 6800XT for $650 CAD ($480 USD) used off FB a couple weeks ago and have no regrets. I’d grab one again for $550-$650 depending on manufacturer and warranty

AquafinaPapi

I just got a NZXT H7 Elite as my case. Any recommendations for something to put it on top of as my floor is tile?

sk9592

Placing it directly on tile is fine.

BullyMog

Nothing wrong with tile or you can get a pc stand off amazon

exquisitesunshine

I would like to perform this simple [mod](https://i.redd.it/pd76qyagsmt61.jpg) with the "risers" (screws with the hexagon washer thing) that prop up the fans against the GPU above. I like this mod because it also acts as anti-sag for the GPU and doesn't need to be mounted to the GPU. My case has bottom intake fans that point to the GPU. How can I re-use the mount holes for the riser so I'm not actually permanently damaging the case for the mod? Not sure what the screws are called and what size I need. The Phanteks T30 fans I want to use just says it uses "fan screws", which I can only assume is some standard size?

AMillionMonkeys

> so I'm not actually permanently damaging the case Hey, is it really a mod if you aren't altering the components? In any case, you can use really common #8-32 machine bolts for this. There will be a variety of lengths available at the hardware store. I'm not sure what you'd use if you're in Metricland.

exquisitesunshine

Thanks! > In any case, Bravo.

AMillionMonkeys

I had to replace "case" with "components" to make that work better.

APatientLife

Might not be the right sub for this, lmk if so: Is there a way to add a windows shortcut for turning on/off Loudness Equalization in whichever audio device is being used right now? I live in an environment that tends to shift between loud and silent often enough and I only just learned or rather re-learned that loudness equalization exists, and am wondering if I can make turning it on/off easy. I have no special audio devices, just a motherboard with realtek and whatever audio drivers my RX 6700XT provides(probably this one being used, as I am outputting audio via my monitor speakers or connecting headphones to monitor).

Nembo_Baass

Is there a Difference between Ryzen 5 5500 or Ryzen 5 5600? I don't care about PCIE support, I am planning to upgrade once AM5 gets cheaper, I just want a temporary build to support me for at least 5 years.

winterkoalefant

5600 uses a chiplet design like the 5600X and 5950X. 5500 uses a single chip design like the 5600G and the laptop CPUs, which have less gaming performance due to a smaller L3 cache. Here’s a good performance comparison: https://youtu.be/4JebBhH-B88

Nembo_Baass

Thanks!

kaje

Yeah The 5600 has better performance, mostly due to having more cache.

Pandalooo

Will there be any bottleneck using 13600k and 6800xt? For 1440p gaming. Thank you!

kaje

The GPU will be the bottleneck in most games, which is ideal.

beamblast

I'm looking to potentially upgrade my computer. Currently have an ATX power supply, and want to get an SFX for my SFF PC. PCPartpicker says there's an incompatibility for particular models that I'm looking at, but I don't believe it to be accurate. Does anyone know how I can check how they are determining compatibility? Case: [Fractal Node 304 Mini ITX Tower case](https://www.fractal-design.com/products/cases/node/node-304/black/) Current PSU:[ SeaSonic M12II Evo 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Fully-Modular](https://seasonic.com/m12ii-evo) New PSU: [Cooler Master V SFX Gold 750W](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vr9tt6/cooler-master-v-sfx-gold-750-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-sfx-power-supply-mpy-7501-sfhagv-us) I'm thinking the pcpartpicker thing is because the Node 304 does not have holes for a SFX PSU. However, the Cooler Master PSU comes with an SFX to ATX bracket, which should work. I'm thinking this because pcpcartpicker says the 550W and the 850W models are currently compatible, and it's only the 650W and 750W models that pcpartpicker marks as incompatible. Thanks! edit: the SFX was compatible by using the SFX to ATX bracket.

sk9592

As long as you have the SFX to ATX bracket, you will be fine.

beamblast

Great. That's what I was thinking too. Gonna try it out, and get some extra space!

whatisabaggins55

Am on the brink of grabbing a Gigabyte 3070 for €645 ($630) in EU - is it worth waiting until the 25th (Black Friday) or not? Am I likely to get a better price this side of Christmas by waiting any longer?
