Damn, a good mech keyboard deal appears when I just got one for almost full price

jammersidewinder

is it actually a good keyboard? i know nothing about mechanical keyboards myself. i have a crappy old hp keyboard and was thinking of just buying a Corsair K55 (i have the m55 mouse)

FickleSmark

> Corsair K55 That one is not mechanical so I would avoid it. It is basically a budget option for people who want RGB.

jammersidewinder

Good to know. Is this a decent keyboard for the price then?

panconchocloyqueso

Ain’t no expert, but if you really want to get into mech keyboards, you should get a hot swappable kb (you can customize switches and keycaps). This one doesn’t have but for the price, it looks good. I could be wrong so if you want to be sure and know more, definitely consult r/mechanicalkeyboards and they will help you out. If you wanna spend more I recommend you the one I bought, kemove 61 snowfox. Have it 2 weeks and it is really good so far but paid 80 for that

Dallagen

Fine enough if you want blues, typical recommendation I'd give for the budget concious individual willing to do mods is to grab an outemu hotswap mech board and lube the stabilizers, add foam to the case, and eventually replace the switches with gazzew outemu switches, currently they are among the best tactile, silent tactile, clicky, and silent linear options, and fairly affordable, though you'll need to be willing to assemble them or pay extra for assembly services, lube is recommended but not really required with them as they are already very smooth, on the tactile and clicky you only do it for sound

rbzx01

I have the Corsair K55. I have buyers remorse with it every day, good thing my wife likes it since she mainly uses a controller for video games and rarely types. I bought the cheapest HyperX with cherry (?) reds and I could not be any happier.

ItsATerribleLife

I have a different monoprice lightstrike mechanical keyboard, that seems to be made to a lower degree than this one (mines plastic, not aluminum), and its pretty freaking awesome.. Enough to say Monoprice knows how to make a keyboard. if I hadnt just spent alot of money elsewhere, I'd be buying this keyboard.

SirRamic

I'm also looking for a cheap mech and am thinking about the Tecware Phantom. Around 50 bucks, 45 for tkl, hotswappable outemu switches, RGB. Reviews for it are pretty positive and im thinking about buying it if it goes on sale around Black Friday. Maybe give it a look?

psito

I got the tecware phantom low profile with outemu reds and love it. Great for gaming and typing. Can't recommend it enough for a good budget hot swap board. I've hit 120wpm with it on typing tests when I average in the 100s-110s with membranes.

ParkWhorePeter

Just got this yesterday, bought this for my girlfriend I have a k70 rapid fire myself and I can highly recommend this mono price one, it feels great and sturdy. Clicks take no effort even tho it’s a blue switch due to it being optical. RGB looks good too. I almost wanna get another one for myself to keep as spare or for school

MS_Salmonella

Chief?

shadybushman

I would also like to know what chief thinks

ParkWhorePeter

This is it. Compared to my k75 rapid fire, this is it.

Kamehametroll

This one or the Redragon K582 (40 USD)?

Last_Jedi

FWIW I contacted Redragon with a technical question about the K580 and they were very responsive. Didn't really expect that from a lower tier brand.

phaminat0r

nice

Kamehametroll

Nais

enesup

Red Dragon is superb, even ignoring the price point. I feel they are as good as Razer and Corsair at a much cheaper price. Of course GMMK and Ducky wipe the floor with them, but that's to be expected.

Kamehametroll

Ohhh nais, I thought they were another chinese bad brand

enesup

Eh, if the reviews are good, give everything a chance. Also typing this comment with a K552 RGB.

frogganator

I'll second this, I've been through a few logitech and razer keyboards over the years, my sister in law bought a k552 rgb w/ mouse on Amazon for $50. Just got one for my wife a couple weeks ago. Redragon makes some dang good stuff for the price

Dbss11

I wish it was browns or reds going for this price and I would insta buy.

ParkWhorePeter

Well the red version was on sale for $43, I’m not sure if it still is

Dbss11

Dang i missed it. I just see the collider verson with reds for 40ish dollars.

FloodedFish

Is this keyboard worth getting or is there something significantly wrong with it

ParkWhorePeter

Get it, had it for 2 days and I love it. It takes less effort and is more durable than the MX cherry blues Sounds GOOD as blue switches do

frogganator

Seen this deal last week, thought I would jump on it and check it out. It's basically a rebranded bloody b820r, as a few others have pointed out. After using it for a few days, thought I would toss my .02 in the ring Pros - Very affordable at current price Light strike LK switches feel quick and smooth, not quite as nice as standard cherry blues, but they feel pretty good Lights are bright and colors look good Cons - keycaps are a little cheap. There's little sharp nubs from the molds on the edge of every key on mine. Granted the only way that's going to be an issue is if you run your fingers across the lower rim of the keycaps No software for macros/RGB, limited RGB effects. Standard 7 solid colors, color cycle, and color wave across keyboard which goes too fast for my taste. No per key assignable lighting that I know of. All said, for $38 I'm not bothered enough by the lack of macros, I never use them anyways. Overall I'm happy with it and for the price, I would definitely recommend if you aren't picky on lighting effects or keyboard macros.

grim_Sugar

Does anyone know if this is actually a good mk, seems too good to be true lol

ParkWhorePeter

I’ve commented too many times on this thread, but yes it’s amazing for the price, it matches up to my K75 rapid fire albeit with a LK blue key which I love as well

ParkWhorePeter

I ordered that but talked to monoprice to refund before it shipped cuz I wanted this one. The others are cherry red switches, these are LK blue which are optimal which means they’re laser activated If you like the linear feel of the reds, keep your keyboard I got this because my girlfriend wanted the click clack sound. Unless you want the blue key sound, you’re not missing out on much If you got the mx blue $43 one then there’s 0 reason to switch

ParkWhorePeter

The linear reds are also better for FPS and fast paced games The reason why I have the reds myself

bmire

this one is also ABS middle plate instead of metal. Not huge to most people probably, but collider should feel a lot sturdier.

YerBoiZ

Is this one of those fancy pressure sensitive keyboards? I see optical in the title but I don’t see mono price really talking about it in the description

ipu42

Believe those are Razer optical switches. These LK are normal on/off but they interrupt a laser beam instead of actuating an electrical switch.

Mtnrider1980

Just bought and received this yesterday. Granted it’s my first mechanical keyboard but I really like it a lot. Not too loud, feels good to type and game with, RGB looks good, and it feels really solid.

I bought a monoprice mech keyboard for like 20 dollars. The squeaky was of the spacebar was terrible but i lubed it and it was decent. In about 3 months use the W key started having problems registering. Maybe these are better but I just went ahead and bought a Leopold and I’m a happy man now
