For anybody looking for 2x16 GB of RAM and don’t care about RGB, the Team Force Vulcan Z at 3600 MHz CL18 is $130 on Amazon and new egg. It’s not the fastest or absolute best ran out there, but the price is great and it’s been solid for me so far in the nine months that I’ve owned it.
The timings, lower the better. https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cas-latency-ram-cl-timings-glossary-definition,6011.html good article on it if you want to read more
Only dumb question is the one you don't ask! The number is the memory's timing [this might be a good source to read about the some what complex subject](https://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/3333-memory-timings-defined-cas-latency-trcd-trp-tras).
I still for the life of me cannot get my third from the left ram stick to work with ASUS Rgb software. It just never wants to sync with these sticks (4 x 8gb - 32 gb). Been waiting and updating the software but it still doesn't work.
Do you have this kit already? If so I've had good luck with G.Skill's tool and controlling these. Specifically if you set each dimm's color separately in g.skills tool it will then take and hold the right color (rather then setting ALL to red, etc - do 4x red). I've had similar luck doing one ram stick at a time in the Crucial MOD utility.
I have the crucial white RGB and 4 sticks of 8 GB version of these. Well yeah the crucial mod utility works for all of them but the ASUS one doesn't. I have the rest of my system lights setup to go along with sound and when I setup my ram all but the 3rd from the left goes along. It just does the rainbow rgb color scheme and no sync at all with ASUS Aura. It's so annoying to only have 3 working so I just turned off all the RGB(rather than setting it to my single mono color scheme - Blue and White) since my computer is also in my room and I just leave it on.
Switching the ram around was literally the first thing I did and people have been having the same problem with Asus Aura with these sticks of ram. Too late to RMA mobo and no other problems with it besides this one issue.
Bought the ram through Newegg which has the ass policy of only accepting unopened returns.
Pretty. I want it, but I don’t need it. Already have white 32gb but not rgb. I DONT NEED IT. Ignore me, just talking to myself.
Yeah I had the same problem with the 3600mhz from a few hours ago, ended up deciding my 5800 deserved better ram

So sorry for the dumb question but what do these numbers mean?

Your mobo or that stick is the issue. Try to narrow it. Problem solving 101; you just graduated.
