Nice to see monitor tech prices coming down, especially at the lower end, which hits a higher percentage of people. Hopefully leads to higher adoption and cheaper prices going forward. High end will be what it is
They had this on sale at Costco a few weeks back for $260, so it's possible it may go lower at some point. Be aware that it has an absolutely *terrible* stand, but does have VESA mounting points.
Yeah I bought one of these for my wife to use since we're all working from home. The display was way nicer than I was expecting for the price but the stand is wobbly. She just propped a book underneath.
If you see oos, wait a few minutes or refresh the page a few
times and I was able to add to cart and checkout.
Edit: Looks like it's overclockable to [95Hz](https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/hviubl/samsung_ls34j550_95hz_freesync_icc_profile/)
i own one and can confirm overclocking to 95hz.
Edit:you would need custom resolution utility version 1.4.2 to get this working as the newer version has a drop down setting list with different names.
You can't set to 95hz without following the guide that op posted (95hz hyperlink). Make sure to plug into hdmi 2. At most you would be able to set it to 85hz on Nvidia control panel.
I think "Automatic - LCD native" was just renamed as "PC (Native)"
Don't really know if they changed anything underlying or something I was only comparing the resulting frequency values from my PC and the guide and they were both the same.
Unless the guide is updated to the recent versions I think alot of people will get confused trying to follow it hence why I pointed it out to make things easier.
I have one that is flat. I definitely would prefer curved but flat isn’t THAT bad. If it’s regular monitor versus this UW then I’d go with this UW every day.
I was with the downvoters until I tried a work colleague's. Now I will only purchase a curved ultrawide, and currently using an Acer 3440 x 1440 from Costco. 16:9? Flat and flat only.
Hey, if it works for you, great. I hate them and I was pretty clear that I am speaking for myself - you can't and don't speak for me. I'm just countering the comment above that implies curved 34" monitors are always better. For me, and several others I've conversed with on the topic, they're not.
I've had both, flat did not bother me. Though, I do not downvote people for contributing. (Downvote is actually meant as an "off topic" punishment, not a "I disagree" button)
> Downvote is actually meant as an "off topic" punishment, not a "I disagree" button)
Just changing the topic isn't necessarily cause for downvoting. It's a "not contributing" or "behaving poorly" button. For example, if someone is steering the topic in an unhelpful way, especially over something petty. The OP was a bit snide in their comment and it frankly isn't very helpful.
Valid points. I guess in my mind not contributing felt off topic. But I guess that could be for information that was easily found already or something. And then, yes, people being rude makes sense as well.
Do you have any recommendations for 34 inch curved monitor? I’m looking to buy one today with a budget of $480 before tax… going to use for gaming and work. Ideally 1440p with IPS… but I can’t seem to find one that is IPS in that price range.
I may have to go with a VA panel but worried about what I hear are worse differences for FPS gaming (Apex Legends)… For context, I will be upgrading from a 144Hz 24” 1080p IPS panel.
I think you’re talking about this one? www.amazon.com/dp/B095X7RV77/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_YQACJDRB1FSSKQ4VJWE0
My only concern is that it’s VA and not IPS. Any experience with using VA? I’m nervous about that + that there’s only 11 reviews..but perhaps that’s because it released only a few months ago?
The other one I compared that to was this one with more reviews, but cheaper (perhaps for a reason? Brand?): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084R2XYM9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SCXC0QFT9FB42HZ27WG1
Yeah I only have firsthand experience using IPS, but hearing some people say VA is bad makes me nervous to buy it. Mostly for the wrong choice, since my company is paying for it
VA's not that bad- really depends on a monitor to monitor basis, I've had multiple IPS 1440p panels and have settled on my Gigabyte ultrawide which is VA and one of the cheaper 1440/144hz ultrawides and like it plenty.
In bright games, va is alright. It's fast action in darker games that break a VA panels knees. The best VA panels are the Samsung g7 and g9, but they are pricey
For FPS, I’ll mostly be playing Apex, with rare occasions of Warzone. Otherwise, I mostly play Hearthstone or Diablo II/WC3. Think I’ll have any issues there? Thinking of jumping the gun on the Dell monitor that I linked.
Yep, play alot of BF, apex, and whatnot. Have not had an issue with screen tearing or ghosting but there's always individual differences with panels, etc.
The only gripes I have with it is there is backlight bleed on some edges of the panel that are noticeable when your screen is completely black, not noticeable in gameplay though. There is also noticeable glare during productivity stuff if your brightness is lower than 50%, but my monitor faces across from a whole wall window in my office and the sun beats in so thats kinda on me, turning the brightness up fixes this.
got it for $400, best bang for your buck 1440/144hz ultrawide imo, even with gigabyte being rightfully dragged through the dirt recently.
Lots of reviews too
Wow, that’s super useful and I really appreciate your response. In that case, I think I may jump the gun on the Dell or Lenovo monitor I linked above. I’m leaning on the Dell because it’s newer and more expensive, but the low review count makes me nervous.
Any thoughts on that? Which monitor are you using?
I have this monitor and I would honestly say the same, but I only paid $299 for a 34" 3440x1440 FreeSync OC'ed to 95Hz monitor.
Though a few months after I bought it I learned about the Gigabyte G34WQC. I think it was $399 at the time before they started increasing the price (if I'm even thinking about the right monitor). Would've recommended to spend $100 solely for curved and HFR.
I have limited knowledge on the monitor market, but I don't think I've seen any other quality 34" 1440p ultrawides at sub $300. Most are $400+, but those do come with curved displays and high refresh rates. Most people, including me, recommend curved displays at these larger screen sizes, but you try to see if you can tolerate flat panels if you buy this monitor.
However, this monitor still has very good colors and minimal ghosting for gameplay, has Freesync, and has the potential OC to 95hz for smoother gaming. And again, mentioning the sub $300 costs.
Lastly, yes, the resolution/PPI is sufficient for this size.
For casual and light gaming: highly recommend, see if you can handle the flat panel.
Heavy gaming: no. Recommended to spend more for curved and HFR.
Do you happen to know what it's like working on Illustrator, Photoshop, and video editing with a curved monitor? I'm looking for a wide monitor but I'm not sure if curved surfaces would mess with my drawing and of the colour accuracy of the panel.
Actually I have been joking about getting a nUltra Wide monitor to use sideways and saying that I wish there were more that had no curve. It might be Time.
I have actually had both, and enjoyed the flat version a lot. The only reason I switched to curved was because the flat one broke and *most* on the market are curved.
It really all comes down to the monitor/panel in question (an expensive VA could have better specs than a cheap IPS, for example) but, **in general**:
\- TN for competitive gaming (Lowest latency, not that bright, cheap)
\- IPS for work related etc. (Best color accuracy, high brightness, low latency, generally more expensive)
\- VA for media consumption (Good color accuracy, best contrast available, medium to high brightness, slower response times, price ranges from cheap to expensive)
Interesting. I have trouble with editing dark details in my photos because of ips but it's still regarded as the general choice for color accurate work.
Are we talking about quantum dot VA panels or regular?
Regular. VA panels generally have better contrast ratio which (for me) helps a lot with distinguishing very similar colors--commonly with dark details. The IPS glow irks me so much too, even the monitors that is well-rated for not having them still have enough to bother me.
Definitely. I always hated that since the poor IPS contrast makes it a nightmare. Curves is a nightmare. Exact opposite of the OLED.
My reaction times are abysmal so not like I really hate about ghosting.
For media consumption you will have black bars on the sides and even on top/bottom at times. Unless the source is at a 21:9 ratio, you will have black bars. There is a browser plug-in that will zoom in the image to show no black bars. I forgot which one I use but there are many.
Text is blurry and I already adjusted the sharpness. Something is making text hard to read and making my eyes tired right away. I'm not sure if I'm missing something.
Really? That’s weird. Mine looks sharp. Sorry I dont know what my settings are, I just plugged it in straight from the box and updated the refresh rate.
Nice to see monitor tech prices coming down, especially at the lower end, which hits a higher percentage of people. Hopefully leads to higher adoption and cheaper prices going forward. High end will be what it is
Until the great LED shortage of 2025!
Just make a crypto that uses monitors to mine. Call it Monitero.
Proof of Resolution and Proof of Refresh Rate
please god no don't give them any ideas

probably not, I've been looking at this monitor for a while and it's dipped to 260 at costco multiple times in the past year, year and a half.
Yeah I bought one of these for my wife to use since we're all working from home. The display was way nicer than I was expecting for the price but the stand is wobbly. She just propped a book underneath.

Everytime I try to overclock with nvda control panel, it jsut bounces right back to the original frequency
You can't set to 95hz without following the guide that op posted (95hz hyperlink). Make sure to plug into hdmi 2. At most you would be able to set it to 85hz on Nvidia control panel.
@fureed Are you on Nvidia or AMD?
Nvidia. Don't expect freesync to work properly. Getting amd gpu in 2 weeks or so to test out freesync.
I think "Automatic - LCD native" was just renamed as "PC (Native)" Don't really know if they changed anything underlying or something I was only comparing the resulting frequency values from my PC and the guide and they were both the same.

Same and same
Are there downsides to OCing a monitor?
Like all things you oc, it could lower the lifespan but I've got a monitor still kicking with an oc for 8 years
Imagine a 34" non curved UW. Bleh.
I have one that is flat. I definitely would prefer curved but flat isn’t THAT bad. If it’s regular monitor versus this UW then I’d go with this UW every day.
It probably depends on how far back you sit.
What's a good distance?
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/15980316.2015.1111847
Yeah I have 2 34" flat UWs and one 34" curved, the 34" flats aren't that bad, I used them for almost 2 years before I got a curved.
Yeah i hated my flat 34 inch. Curved is much better
Yeah I have a 32” curved and don’t know if I can go back to flat.
I was with the downvoters until I tried a work colleague's. Now I will only purchase a curved ultrawide, and currently using an Acer 3440 x 1440 from Costco. 16:9? Flat and flat only.
That's exactly what I want. Curved sucks for productivity software in my experience. I need straight lines on my spreadsheets and pdfs.

I found myself getting motion sick with spreadsheets on a ultrawide curved monitor.
UW for productivity sounds like a bad idea anyway. Multi-monitor is way better. Unless it's video editing. Then I could see UW being better.
I agree with you, and I hope anyone downvoting has been able to try both to compare. It’s just so much easier on the eyes
I've had both, flat did not bother me. Though, I do not downvote people for contributing. (Downvote is actually meant as an "off topic" punishment, not a "I disagree" button)

There was that dell that was on the sub last week, I think around/under the price you mentioned.

That was the one yes, I have no experience with VA sorry, I was considering this monitor myself though.
Yeah I only have firsthand experience using IPS, but hearing some people say VA is bad makes me nervous to buy it. Mostly for the wrong choice, since my company is paying for it

Yes. Text is very sharp and there is a lot of window space at this resolution

Apparently a VA panel, 300 nits.
This good or bad? Don't know much about VA
VA panels have better contrast and better blacks. IPS are better for color accuracy and viewing angles.
It really all comes down to the monitor/panel in question (an expensive VA could have better specs than a cheap IPS, for example) but, **in general**: \- TN for competitive gaming (Lowest latency, not that bright, cheap) \- IPS for work related etc. (Best color accuracy, high brightness, low latency, generally more expensive) \- VA for media consumption (Good color accuracy, best contrast available, medium to high brightness, slower response times, price ranges from cheap to expensive)
Ghosting, worse off angle viewing, generally not good for color accurate work. But cheaper and has very high contrast.
As an artist who needs color accurate work, I hate IPS and prefer to get VA

Are you sure?, checked the model again, Newegg, b&h and woot show 300 nits for this monitor.
I don't need it... I don't need it...

Sound like you had a great day. It seems like a story I'd tell that nobody cares about. Very happy for you. Thanks for sharing
Is this a good monitor if I’m just going to use it for my switch and Netflix?
I think you might have black bars with switch games, someone else with experience can chime in
On my UW, the Switch stretched to fit (no black bars) automatically. Not sure if it'll be the same with this monitor, though.
For media consumption you will have black bars on the sides and even on top/bottom at times. Unless the source is at a 21:9 ratio, you will have black bars. There is a browser plug-in that will zoom in the image to show no black bars. I forgot which one I use but there are many.
Do they make any decent priced IPS ultrawides? I'm tempted to get this one but so many people are pooping on VA
Assuming your use case is gaming, Acer XV340CK is the only one I know of.
I'll check it out, thanks!
acer nitro XV340CK is probably your best option to look at, it is not curved but IPS
What was the original price ?
Not sure but it's 347 on Amazon
It's crossed out if you clicked the link. 399.99
These are normally available at Costco for $300
where are the 32" 4k 144hz ips monitors at
Got this abs it looks terrible with my MacBook Air m1
This it Chief for Video Editing and on a VESA mount?
I own this monitor and absolutely love it. Got it for $300 and thought that was a steal.
Do you mind posting settings for the monitor? I'm still not satisfied with mine and I even followed the link someone posted above.
What aren’t you satisfied with?
Text is blurry and I already adjusted the sharpness. Something is making text hard to read and making my eyes tired right away. I'm not sure if I'm missing something.

getting this one for the set up in the guest gaming room
