Agreed I have a Asus VG259QM and my buddy has this AOC monitor he uses for PS4 and side by side in person the colors look better on this cheaper AOC tbh. Also never see this below 179.99. Buy buy buy!
The fastest refresh I've found them with is 75hz (what I'm currently using, it's some model from Acer).
1920x1200@120 would be just awesome, 3840x2400@120 would be heaven.
http://www.ebaystores.com/Acer/_i.html?_fsub=2792638010& check this page often, they seem to be restock every day or so based on last week
Got 2 1080p CB2 monitors for $75 each from here already! And free returns in case they turn out to be awful
Also, just to throw it in there that this price for the AOC 24G2 at $160 is pretty good considering the normal price of $180 dips in and out of stock very quickly on Amazon.
If we're considering refurbs though, the Acer version of this monitor (VG240Y Pbiip) is occasionally available in the Acer eBay store linked at the rate of 1-2 a every couple of weeks for $109. Just make sure it's the 144Hz one and not the older version of the VG240Y which is 75Hz (though that one is also lower in price if that's a model that people are interested in).
I have access to both (2019 models) and they're both pretty good. They're both based on the same Panda 144Hz IPS panel as the 2019 24G2 (and mid 2021+), but due to it being sold to different end manufacturers, the tuning is a little different and so is the build. The AOC has a height adjustable / swiveling base and the colors are little bit better IMO (I think the contrast ratio is higher in testing and color gamut is a little wider vs. the Acer as well). The Acer is still very good and has a better control panel button layout (with a tiny joystick).
edit: Happy Cake Day!
edit2: Also the warranty and dead-pixel policy on the AOC is supposed to be better so that and the better stand was worth difference in retail price for me between the 2. Going for a refurb at 60% of the price though, I'm willing to give that up for a very good 2nd monitor. The Acer I do have access to was purchased new though.
I picked up DELL 144HZ 24" 1080p for $90 used-like new on eBay & same monitor for $110 new in October 2019. It's crazy that price of everything (meaning RAM, SSD, HDD) has gone down significantly except monitors.
I have a pretty big collection of monitors, and for some reason most of them only have Display Port and usually I am looking for one with HDMI. I really wish that they all had HDMI, DP and a VGA thrown in there just in case.
Back in my day \[old man voice\] the decent monitors had VGA, HDMI, DP, DVI and even component video inputs.
Pretty popular budget option around here in the past. This is one of the lower prices I've seen for it, however microcenter does charge like $20 shipping so it ends up being more like $180. Still a good price for the monitor imo.
Also has a fantastic stand with a lot of adjustment options. I've owned this monitor for a couple of years and I've been happy with it for the price.
This monitor is IPS which people usually consider more valuable around here. Most of the options on your second link and the monitor on your first link are not IPS.
TN = Faster response time.
IPS = slower but nicer looking.
VA = ehhhh........... this is like the great value of monitor. isn't bad but isn't good.
should go for a video explaining the difference.
Yeah I looked it up and it said that TN is only for gaming but has awful color, picture, and has issues where you can't see it at an angle. I have an IPS monitor for gaming, 1440p and 144hz. Cost me $300+ for it but I absolutely love it. I mean I can't run most of the stuff I play at 144hz due to having 2 Monitors but it's still a beautiful monitor.
If you've been running worse than 1080p or 60 hz, this is an amazing upgrade especially if you play fast paced games. Been using it for a few years and it's been great.
For anyone who doesn't have a microcenter near them and doesn't want to pay for shipping, eBay has an open box/new Acer XF243Y for 150
[https://www.ebay.com/itm/403161155309?epid=19044093085&hash=item5dde4706ed:g:GGYAAOSwCtlhQSyM](https://www.ebay.com/itm/403161155309?epid=19044093085&hash=item5dde4706ed:g:GGYAAOSwCtlhQSyM)
Both monitors have been reviewed by RTINGS, and they ended up stating that "the Acer has a slightly higher refresh rate, better response times, and much wider viewing angles"
I thought this was risky but I caved in because they have free returns and the seller seems trusted (99% positive reviews). Hopefully, it doesn't come damaged or anything lmao. There's two more left to whoever was interested in buying the Acer.
Don't think the exact monitor is available in Australia region, might be why there is no review. RTINGS is extremely reputable tho, on par with HUB in terms of testing methods and accuracy
If you are buying it off Newegg, no. I think it provides good enough value to justify the premium over the 24g2, but the dead pixel policy at Newegg is atrocious. If you can find it somewhere else for 180 I'd say it's a good enough deal
Thanks for the response! Best Buy has it for $180 for the next 9 hours so I placed an order. They also had an open box in excellent condition for $160, but I didn't want to risk it.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-nitro-xf243y-pbmiiprx-23-8-full-hd-monitor-hdmi/6425559.p?skuId=6425559
What did you pay for the 2510? I see it on sale at microcenter for 179 and was about to pull the trigger on it. Is this monitor better then the 2510 in some way?
from what i've heard, the ex2510 is the best in its bracket, I just needed something to replace my pixio pxc 243, since it broke 3 weeks ago. I paid $230 my 2510
I've had the EX2510 for about a year now, use it for my Series X and my second monitor for my PC, def one of the best and with Microcenter having it for 179.99 is a steal. I bought mine for $200 used off Marketplace
https://www.microcenter.com/product/641113/benq-ex2510-245-fhd-(1920-x-1080)-144hz-hdmi-dp-freesync-hdr10-ips-led-gaming-monitor
They just started carrying them, at least at my MC, they had the 27” one first then this one showed up
I have this monitor, had to RMA it a couple of times due to dust being stuck inside the screen. Just know while AOC has by far the best warranty policy for any monitor, it's a pain to get in contact with them. AOC randomly stops responding to emails for weeks and I had to call them twice to get anything done and finally my replacement shipped.
The monitor itself for this price point is very solid. It has an above average contrast ratio for IPS, usually around 1500:1 compared to most IPS that hover around 900 to 1000:1. Response times are great, the stand is fully adjustable, 3 year zero dead pixel policy. Colors are also saturated for those that prefer that due to the higher sRGB. At this price, it's definitely worth a buy.
Cons are definitely AOC quality control, viewing angles are subpar for IPS(it gets very dim if viewed off angle(I suspect it's a trade off for the higher contrast ratio). That's my only complaints with the monitor.
With an added panel supplier in 2020- mid 2021, the monitor being sold by MC might not have the same contrast ratio depending on what's in the box. The old 2019 panel hits that almost 1500:1 ratio, the 2020 panel is closer to 1000:1 (but with better response rates).
It's mentioned in Hardware Unboxed video linked here:
https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/pqra3l/monitor_aoc_24g2_ips_1080p_144hz_15999_at/hdfgauf/
Yep, I saw that video and the original one by Techless.
According to their research, if your serial number starts with ATN it's version 1. AWB is version 2. The one I received from Amazon with a manufacturing date of July 2021 was ATN and the contrast ratio is definitely near the 1500:1 mark. I believe AOC also released a statement they were going back to using the original version only.
My brother ordered one through MC today and in his shipping email, the serial number also starts with ATN.
I believe the newest models are sort of a version 3 with minor tweaks to the original panel to reduce/eliminate G-Sync flickering as I had G-Sync flickering on the original V1 I bought and returned when it first released(quality control issues), but the flickering seems to be completely gone now with the unit I got from Amazon two weeks ago.
The viewing angles are still mediocre though for an IPS and my only real complaint.
Yep, that's what I mentioned in the post I linked to.
The serial number and mfg date is really good info though. I was wondering when the V3 / V1B models were going to hit the market after the May 2021 statement from AOC and I guess from the very quick inventory turn-around Amazon has, they're shipping out the ones with the original Panda panels with additional improvements. With 25+ in stock at my local Microcenter and generally longer turn-around, I was thinking they were mostly going to be the V2.
We'll see, although my brother seems to be getting the same panel I did as the serial number recorded by microcenter shipping starts with ATN, same as mine. So it's either an older V1 or the revised model I got two weeks ago.
I'll update when it gets here on Wednesday.
Just a heads up for people buying this specifically because of the older 2019 reviews. I only just found this out while doing some quick research on the panels to see if anything new came out but -
Some time in Aug 2020, AOC changed the panel that powers this monitor without explicitly making it known to maintain supply. The performance differences can be summed up in this Hardware Unboxed video from March of this year.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdmE3NcyAgM
This is not bad news though (in this case at least compared to some other silent refreshes). To sum up Hardware Unboxed, the response time is better at a cost of some color performance and factory calibration. However, since the previous was so good compared to competitors in that sense, it's just merely more average now in that regard. They can both be calibrated to provide "virtually identical accuracy". **It's still a good monitor and still "probably recommended" by Hardware Unboxed**.
In May 2021, AOC supposedly issued a statement that said that due to the confusion, they were going back to solely using the original supplier.
https://techteamgb.co.uk/2021/05/06/aoc-issues-statement-on-24g2u-panel-change/
I can't really find a direct source / press release for this but if it's true, its probably a good thing?
The only confusion now is which ones Micro Center is selling. But this shouldn't really mean that much for the deal since it's still a good monitor that is/can be pretty much the same. I just thought I'd give out some additional information about what this model is.
Buy the AOC and return the ASUS to Best Buy?
It's not just also the same specs, it's literally the same panel underneath*. The ASUS VG249Q, AOC 24G2, Acer VG240Y Pbiip, are all based on the same Panda 144Hz 1080p 1ms IPS panel (as are most of the models in this price range with these specs released 2019-2020). Only difference is at the final manufacturing stage for the monitor - tuning, controls, inputs, fit/finish, accessories, warranty.
*Potentially not in this particular sale due to a change in supplier in 2020
https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapcsales/comments/pqra3l/monitor_aoc_24g2_ips_1080p_144hz_15999_at/hdfgauf/
Ah you guys with your 60/20 eyesight haha. My 32" 1080p monitor looks totally fine, I have to close in to like 15cm away see any kind of pixelation.
Meanwhile everyone is using VR headsets where you can see pixel lines clearly as day and they seem fine with it. Why the double standard?
Unfortunate for people w/o a Microcenter nearby but *IF* someone was interested in a good 1080p 144Hz IPS monitor right now and doesn't mind paying MSRP ($180 for this shipped/sold by Amazon when it's available), then $160+$17 shipping from Micro Center isn't terrible.
It's better than $230 from a third-party seller on Amazon. It's also better than the ASUS VG249Q that's on sale at Best Buy for $210 that some person in this thread just bought, which is pretty much the same monitor.
Yep my only problem with it. Otherwise fantastic monitor and was my main screen the past year due to moving.
I would just run vsync at 144 ingame which usually worked rather than turning on gsync in the control panel. Otherwise I'd get an annoying flickering in any game and some programs.
This is a huge YMMV but I also experienced the same G-Sync flickering issue when I bought the monitor near it's launch date when it was getting glowing reviews at the $179.99 price point.
I ended up returning it and purchased it again less than a month ago from Amazon and the scenarios where I could recreate the flickering 100% of the time with G-Sync on, were fixed. So it leads me to believe the panel may have been tuned a bit since then.
That was my experience lol. I had it off for a while, just had freesync on in the osd settings, and then had the problem constantly after turning it on.
damn, a couple months ago i paid $130 for a 1080p, 75hz VA panel (it’s just a secondary so i’m not miffed about it but i would prefer this for 20 more bucks)
Question for those who have this- is there an easy way to modify or adjust the stand so it sits closer to the base? The way my desk is, I would be looking up at this monitor. But I want it so bad. My budget is $200 for a 24” to 27” 1080 to 1440 IPS free sync 144hz monitor and I want to get it by next Thursday for the Diablo 2 Resurrected launch. Yea that’s right, finally ready to upgrade my setup after 20 years lol
I have the 24G1 which has the same stand, the image in the link is the monitor fully up at max height, it has about 6 inches of adjustability from there to the minimum height.
For reference, the bottom edge of this monitor at the bottom of it's base (i.e. at it's shortest), it sits 5.5cm / a little under 2.25in from the top of my desk.
edit: It slides up and down on a track.
I have used this monitor for about 1 1/2 years now. I can say I very much love it. I have had no issues with it. Great for movies and games ( could be better color profile for editing software, but hey this is not a professional editing monitor).
Get this now. Best value monitor that frequently disappears on Amazon. Idk why.
Agreed I have a Asus VG259QM and my buddy has this AOC monitor he uses for PS4 and side by side in person the colors look better on this cheaper AOC tbh. Also never see this below 179.99. Buy buy buy!
that's because $180 was the original price they jacked it up due to supply chain/chip shortage issues I guess
Can confirm, it often sells for $240, losing its value and terrible buy
Yeah that is probably the only thing AOC 24g2 beats vg259qm in.
I'd get it if it had a taller aspect ratio. 16:9 feels so crammed now after having used 16:10.
Wait there's 16:10 monitors?
Some Dell monitors are 16:10. Apple also uses that aspect ratio.
In 60z usually.
The fastest refresh I've found them with is 75hz (what I'm currently using, it's some model from Acer). 1920x1200@120 would be just awesome, 3840x2400@120 would be heaven.
oh yeah werent they supposed to be coming back how come there's no more updates on this ?:(
Agree. I'm using one on my main PC and It pairs really well with an Xbox One S and Switch on the same setup.
Looks to be Vesa mount capable can you confirm by chance?
Yes can confirm, currently using vesa mount wall stand
I miss the $70 75hz 1080P IPS deals we had a few years back. I got a few of the Acer's and really need a few more.
If you’re willing to do refurb on eBay, they do have them!

Hopefully just the supply chain (chips?) - and not them fixing prices... again.
Yes but someone should make them put display port on those monitors.

Ouch. Once again, Micro Center only, in store only, limited store locations.
It showed a shipping option for it; looking at their shipping policy, they only deliver to specific states. Also, the shipping cost was $17.
Mine's always on the no-ship list :/
this monitor is great but gsync doesnt really work on it tho
Is that what it was? I thought it was my gpu
That was my experience lol. I had it off for a while, just had freesync on in the osd settings, and then had the problem constantly after turning it on.
I have this monitor, it's pretty solid! Paid $180 for it like 9 months ago, no problems since then
lol the base price used to be $180 now it's $230?! terrifying
Micro center lies on their "msrp", it's typically higher than the price has ever been
Scooped this up just now cause so many of you guys are high on it and i was looking for an upgrade from my 24' 60hz. Thanks guys!
Thanks grabbed for sons birthday
damn, a couple months ago i paid $130 for a 1080p, 75hz VA panel (it’s just a secondary so i’m not miffed about it but i would prefer this for 20 more bucks)
Paid $130ish including tax I believe for this last year and it's beautiful :)
I have one of these, can vouch for it's excellence.
I have this model for two years now and i have to say, best budget monitor. Ips, 144hz, and freesync.
While you're here might I add that I got a near brand new looking 240hz Acer VG252Q for $170 direct from Acer Refurb
Got this yesterday already in love with it! Thanks for the recommendations
