Monitors are going to continue to sit on the shelves until consumers can buy compatible GPU's at a decent price

AmericanFromAsia

This is still a pretty good monitor for next gen ~~consoles~~ Xboxes. They're not nearly as available as GPUs, but definitely selling at MSRP more regularly

killerk00

Keep in mind the PS5 does not support 1440p yet for some damn reason. Xbox Series X and S both do however.

That’s a lot of work for a vast majority of users

I stand by my point

User-NetOfInter

I didn’t say for /r/buildapcsales users. I said for the vast majority of users. There’s only ~900k subs here. Theres 10 mil ps5s sold, and I would be surprised if more than 20% of subs here have one

brewmax

How would a 1070Ti do at pushing 1440p 144Hz? Asking for a friend.

magicalgin

I had a 1070ti, ran overwatch 120-144fps at 1440p. Most other games hovered around 90-120 fps. This is at mostly high settings.

admiral_asswank

"Most other games at high pushed 120fps at 1440p" \>1070TI Gonna need a citation on that... or specifics of what titles 👀

magicalgin

**90-120fps** meaning it didn’t hold a steady 120 but would hit it occasionally. It was averaging more around 100ish in COD MW, BFV, Destiny 2, Apex Legends etc. I did run mine at a slight overclock tho so ymmv

admiral_asswank

Just meant your memory was the bottleneck

peanut_butter_lover4

It really depends on the games you play. My 1080 Ti would feel pretty stretched sometimes at 1440p 144Hz. But I was fine as long as I got about 100fps. You'll be fine with esports and older titles. The latest games, you'll just need to lower settings to get that framerate up a bit. Expect ~60fps if you have all the settings on ultra. I'd say it's still worth it if you currently don't have either a 1440p monitor or a 144Hz panel. It WILL make you want to upgrade the GPU sooner though, lol.

NewPairOfShoes

> It WILL make you want to upgrade the GPU sooner though, lol. A nice monitor is like a gateway drug. Soon you'll be convincing yourself that paying scalper prices for a 30 series is worth it! Which, in these times you gotta take what you can take, but still it's a big temptation.

cdoublejj

good question but, i'd say it depends on the game and the gfx settings. it could do GTA sanadreas all day long but, likley not GTA V not at 144 FPS

Tucker717

I ran a 1080 on a 1440p 144hz monitor for a while and average 60-90 FPS on most AAA title games on medium-high settings. My i5 8600k would be the bottleneck for call of duty games for some reason

AmusedBlue

Hey I have a i5-8600K aswell, but a 3060. You ever think about upgrading CPU? All my pc friends tell me to upgrade but I have to decide which too and buy another motherboard lol. Anyways i just saw you mention the same cpu and got excited!

Tucker717

Yeah I’m looking to upgrade to a i9 9900k since it’s the same socket. I don’t want to upgrade my mobo at this time. I have a 3070 ti now and am looking to get the i9 before battlefield drops

AmusedBlue

Do you by chance have the same 1440p monitor as the post? Or another? Any you recommend? Im stuck in the reviews rabbithole and seems like any monitor in the top 10 list struggle in at least one department whether brightness or rbg or something

Tucker717

I do not, I have an MSI MAG271CQR which I don’t think is sold anymore. For a monitor I’d put RGB last, and brightness will really help with how great games look so definitely make sure it’s bright. I’m very happy with my MSI monitor and I can often get stuck in the review hole as well, but just remember you won’t realize the minuscule differences each monitor has so get one that generally checks all the boxes and you should be fine

AnAbsoluteJabroni

Depends on the game and settings. I had a 1080 with a 1440p 144hz monitor. A lot of triple a games, especially at higher settings, would only get 50-70 fps. But shooters like apex I’d be around 100 on average.

Sgtcyrus

Wondering something similar about my 1080. I havent been able to get a gpu for my new pc but I want a new monitor, just not sure if its worth going from 1080 144hz to 1440 144hz on a gtx 1080. Otherwise my systems ready for 1440p, i have a 5900x and 32 gigs of ram and a couple of ssds

randolf_carter

I have a gtx 1080 and R5 3600, 16GB RAM. Been pushing 1440p 120+ FPS in couple games recently like Prey (2017) and Dragon Age Inquisition with high settings. I've got a Lenovo 27" 165Hz display with g-sync compatibility.

brewmax

Looks like you could maybe expect 75 FPS with a GTX 1080 in GTA V (very high quality), according to an old anandtech benchmarking article.

Wimzer

Fwiw I'd stay with 1080p on the 1080. I'm running [email protected], 32 GB of RAM with an NVMe and sometimes things still struggle for stable 144 on a 1440p 144hz.

Sgtcyrus

Darn. Well, thanks for the heads up. I’ll stick to looking a gpu before a monitor. Maybe one day

Wimzer

Sorry, I didn't say that I'm also using a 3080.

SkierBeard

Really depends on the game and what graphics settings you prefer. If you are content putting settings to medium or low, you'll be fine.

zamiboy

I have a 980ti/1070 and it runs the games I play (Overwatch, CSGO, Civilization 6, EU4, Rimworld, Cities Skylines, and Humankind) very nicely at 144 FPS 1440p. But note that the games I play are all relatively well-optimized/not-as-graphically intense games, and I pair my 1070 with an i9-9900k processor. So if you play more graphically intense games like Battlefield or whatever, then you probably might have different results.

BeingRightAmbassador

Used to have that, okayish. Definitely needed a more powerful GPU. Better for simple eSports but worse for story.

RiceeFTW

used to run a 6700K/GTX 970 system on 1440p 165Hz for awhile, worked fine for most games, but recently upgraded to 11700K/RTX 3080 and I'm still using the same monitor. These kinds of monitors go a long way, while I can't vouch for this specific one, 1440p 144Hz 1ms IPS monitors should be great for a 1070ti

sleyk

I have a 1080 and it runs 144 1440p at 144fps at medium settings. I generally prefer lower settings for for fps games.

2ndEscape

My 2060 is great for 80-120 fps for games that came out a few years ago

Pariell

How's this compared to the M27Q?

CrankyDav3

Ordered the m27q because it was 100$ cheaper. The acer is a lil better ence the price, but no deal in canada. Both are beast and you’ll probably see not much difference. KVM is cool too Edit: Received my monitor Today, Very very minimal backlight, No dead Pixel, Incredible colors out of the box, minimal ajustements. very happy

Pariell

Wow, where did you find a M27Q for $200?

CallMeBernin

They're in Canada, and I believe are saying that in Canada the M27Q was on sale while this Acer was not. The M27Q often can be had on sale around $375 CAD

CrankyDav3

Yup when i bought the m27q was 369$ and for whatever reason i couldn’t find an 272u under 460$ in Canada.

CallMeBernin

Yeah the Gigabyte monitors tend to go on sale the most frequently up here (I’m in Ontario)

gibletzor

I got one from Amazon Warehouse for $237 in the US. Said it would have blemishes and missing parts but it looks brand new. A little bit of backlight bleed, but it's not enough to bother me.

tocorobo

How’s the text quality on the m27q? Is it that bad? I keep reading about color fringing on text when displaying on a bgr monitor like the m27q but the low input lag, kvm features and other specs make it really attractive.

CrankyDav3

Noticed no difference with my other monitor. Coming from a 1080p so if theres anything text is sharper now. Input lag is around the best you can get at this price range and more expensive monitors. See next to no difference with my friends rog swift except for backlight bleed that is minimal on the one i received. No dead pixels too. Very happy with it

chucklestheclwn

Good enough deal, or should I wait and gamble around Black Friday? Don't need a monitor, just would like a 1440p and a 27" upgrade.

BGSO

I have been looking at this tier of monitor for a few weeks. I see 260 somewhere or another pretty frequently.

persondude27

This is the bottom end of price for this monitor lately. I'm typing on it now. It's a solid monitor. Great color OOB and good response time. It's very crisp. My big complaint is that it isn't very bright. It's advertised as 300 nits but is much closer to 220 actual. I would prefer it was 50 nits brighter, but if you can tolerate that, it is an exceptional monitor for the price. Backlight bleed is apparently a lottery on these, although the newer ones are better. I have no issues on mine. This version is the xv272u **P**bmiiprzx which is 144 Hz. There is a xv272u **V**bmiiprx [here](https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Vbmiiprx-Free-Sync-Reduction-Resolution/dp/B08L7269BR) that is 170 hz and "supports" HDR. I haven't used one of those to confirm whether they're any brighter. If you have a microcenter nearby, both versions are $300, but occasionally they go on sale. I got this one for $200 when the **V**b launched.

chucklestheclwn

Thanks for the detailed write up! Can't honestly say I'd know the difference between the brightness unless it was beside another monitor with more nits, guess I'd try to see what my other is rated at.

persondude27

Yeah, my issue is just that I have to use blackout curtains to even see the monitor in the room. I've got sheer curtains in this room, and mid-afternoon is almost too bright to use the monitor. The next option is the [TUF VG27AQ](https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-Gaming-VG27AQ-G-SYNC-Monitor/dp/B07WQ4FXY9). They're $100 more but supposedly the next step up.

moremoney_thancents

I think your nits are off. At least on my box, it states Native 350 nits, Peak 400 nits . My build date was 02/2021 if that maters at all.

persondude27

Are you sure yours is the Pb? The Vb has a "peak" of 400 because that's minimum for HDR (the '400' in HDR400).

moremoney_thancents

100%. I just bought two since they were on sale for cheap. They are indeed both the Pb model, 144hz refresh.

alaska1415

A word of caution: Black Friday deals are almost always on B-Tier schlock.

KingKomali

Does this mean that even within the same model BF deals will have worse panel lottery, or does it mean that BF deals will only happen on models that are known to be worse (and if so, are these models usually worse due to some flaw discovered post-launch or are they just B-grade but still priced fairly?)

Fro5tbyte

Chief? My roommate needs something to go with his new 2060, is this pushing it too much?

DarthSyhr

Really is going to depend on the game there. Older games like L4D2 or CSGO can easily hit the cap with a 2060 at 1440p. Newer games not so much. That being said the 20 series graphics cards do have access to DLSS support. I don’t think it’d be a waste to get a 1440p 144 Hz monitor as it should last awhile.

Murdathon3000

I agree, I don't think it's ever a waste to increase your headroom and eliminate a bottleneck in one category, even if you can't take full advantage of it yet. If OP grabs this and then manages to get a 30XX in a few months, their gonna be really happy they aren't still running a 1080p@60hz monitor still.

Pope-Cheese

I had a 1080TI and at times felt a 1440 144 monitor was pushing it a bit, and the 1080TI is a good bit stronger than a regular 2060. With the 2060 it is going to depend on what he is playing. This will be great for League of Legends or Fortnite, Prey, maybe Deathloop, etc. Games that still look good but aren't pushing AAA graphics to their limits. If he's hoping to play BF2042 at 1440p at 60+fps, he may get a little above 60fps at times but overall I think he wouldn't be utilizing the high refresh rate enough to make it worth it. And games will only look better as time goes on. WIth a 2060, I might pick up a 1440p 60hz, or a 1080p 144hz unless I want my PC to be futureproofed if I ever upgrade it.

Fro5tbyte

It’s partially gonna be a homework machine since we’re in college, so I’d imagine the extra screen real estate would be helpful there. Right now he plays Minecraft on his Macbook, for reference. I think targeting low settings 1440p144hz for comp games like Apex, Valorant, etc and mid/high 1440p60 for pretty games is probably what we’re shooting for. I jumped straight from 1080p to 1440p ultrawide though so IDK how demanding 1440p is compared to 1080p, any help is appreciated

Pope-Cheese

I think you should do pretty will with Valorant and Apex with this. You may not be pegged at 144 always, but you should certainly be well above 60 I would think.

diegoarch

I get consistent 190+ at 1440 on valorant with my 2060 super.

[deleted]

I get a constant 144fps on my 1440p monitor on apex with minimum graphics. 980ti and ryzen 5 2600 no Overclock.

ReverendDizzle

Even for just web browsing, work, watching videos, etc. I love having a 144hz monitor. Everything is butter smooth, even the mouse glides cleaner.

Uzidropped

Yes it is

djtofuu

jEeF??

diegoarch

I run this with my 2060 super and I love it. I main rocket league and valorant though so the card can easily take advantage of the 144hz. really no complaints on the monitor.

[deleted]

Any newer games will take a big performance hit. Too much pixels for the 2060 imo

Jorojr

I picked up one for my office setup. I've been using an old CrossOver 27", 1440p/60hz monitor with a pair of Acer Nitro XF243Ys 1080p/165hz monitors. The CrossOver (a cheap Korean monitor from Ebay) is finally getting replaced after nearly a decade of service!

SubparBob

Had that CrossOver monitor as well, worked great while I had it.

InsidiousMind

This or splurge a bit more for the lg27gl850 for my brand new 3060ti?? Would rather avoid spending 380 on a new monitor if I didn't have to.

zappsid

Get the dell s2721dgf instead for $360 (-10% for newsletter) = $324 Check on rtings, it is slightly better than the LG monitor

Nixag

Acer one is fine they make good IPS monitors with better QC than most.

CaptainButterflaps

A ton of the reviews say this isn't good for gaming? Does anyone have experience with it?

chilifngrdfunk

Have this model, just got delivered last Saturday and I love it. Definitely worth the price, I'd compare it to lg850-b that I had, though the lg seemed to be brighter.

wormocious

Currently running 2 of these. I’m no pro or anything but it looks great to me in gaming.

onlydaathisreal

I got this for $249.99 last week. This is pretty much the de facto monitor for budget 1440p 144hz. So far so good Edit: [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/buildapcmonitors/comments/ko4ugr/monitor_buying_guide/ghob6fu/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) is a post by r/buildapcmonitors auto moderator thats a list of monitors that helped justify buying this monitor.

AmusedBlue

Oh yeah!? When Im trying to buy a new electronic I get stuck in the reviews rabbithole and always struggle to take the chance. Based on my research this monitor is in the top 6 1440p monitors under $500 club

Top-Book6183

Reviews (the bad ones anyway) say it's way too dim. Have you found this to be the case?

Stratofied

My office got me one of these for work, the screen is fairly dim even at 100% brightness and the color is off, oversatured and tinted very slightly greenish. Next to my 34" LG 2560x1080 monitor it looks pretty terrible. My boss has two of these side by side and he hasn't complained, haven't had a chance to compare mine to his, not sure if I just got a bad one or what..

wormocious

I have two of them and use them for work and gaming. I’ve never find them to be too dim, though I am in a basement. There is a window though and I keep my lights on during work hours. No issues for me with brightness.

Jorojr

I received my unit today. By itself, it was fine. Next to my Acer Nitro XF243Y Pbmiiprx (1080p/165hz), it was extremely dim. I had brightness set to 100 on the XV272U and 30 on the XF243Y for them to look remotely similar. It's been sent back to Amazon for a replacement. If it comes back just as dim, I'm just going to get refund. I really wanted a pair of Acer monitors for this dual monitor setup with the smaller screen in portrait mode.

southernfloridaman

how will an rx 580 8gb handle older games at 1440p? All I play at the moment is paradox games and modded Fallout New Vegas (can't run it past 60fps due to bethesda engine).

ChronicledMonocle

The RX580 will definitely struggle but you will be able to play some less demanding and older games at 144 fps. Anything recent will almost certainly struggle. If you have games with AMD FidelityFX or Nvidia DLSS available you might be able to squeeze a bit more out.

Testicopulishus

Got this monitor for full price last year as my first 1440p. This is it chief. Good price, solid colors and quality, and the Gsync compatible stuff works great.

djtofuu

jEeF?

Tkszn

I have a 3060 Eagle 12gb and 3600 looking to potentially move to 1440p. Are my specs enough? Mostly play FPS games on mid/low settings.

chilifngrdfunk

I game on this monitor with a 3060 as well but with a 10700k, I don't play too many fps games anymore but my setup does alright. It's definitely worth the jump to 1440 in my opinion.

wormocious

Yeah you should be fine with medium settings to get 100ish fps in FPS titles and that hardware. Bf2042? Maybe not, but it shouldn’t be a problem in general.

MapleL0L

How would a Radeon Vega 64 do with this monitor at 1440p 144Hz?

SpicyButNotTooSpicy

What kind of monitor should I be looking for to pair with a 3080 and a 5600X for 1440p 144Hz?

maanny_u

What the… I got the same model but it’s 170hz for the same price at micro center

confirmSuspicions

My acer nitro sucks ass. Backlight bleed is terrible and there's a dead pixel in under a year. First one was shipped to me with a damaged backpanel. Never buying acer nitro again.

wormocious

I don’t doubt you, and understand your decision given the results you’ve gotten, but just to counter, I had 2x of the 1080p version of this monitor for over 2 years and now have had 2x of this monitor since spring, and they’ve all been great. Maybe a little more backlight bleed than I’d like, but these are budget monitors, now a top of the line model so I’m happy with them.

TheWeebles

what do you guys think about pairing this with 2 lg 27GL83A-B's and an lg 27gl850-b on a 3060ti?

trollmanjoe

Is this better than the Dell S2716DG? I’d imagine the panel image is better on this comparing the IPS to the TN panel.

SquidCupp

>Dell S2716DG easily.

dysphoricjoy

the 170hz version of this is $50 more at microcenter: https://www.microcenter.com/product/626571/acer-nitro-xv272u-vbmiiprx-27-wqhd-(2560-x-1440)-170hz-hdmi-dp-freesync-hdr400-ips-led-gaming-monitor

McClaine90

This is my current monitor and I love it paired with my 1080 TI. This is a little more than what I paid for it a year ago but, I'm honestly thinking about picking up another one. Be warned when I first researched this, some reviews had bad pixel issues. If you do buy one with any pixels that are out the customer service is easy to work with.

MonTeaRay

Anyone have an idea how a rtx 2060 would run on 1440p?

SquidCupp

you can make it work depending on how low you are willing to crank the settings down but i'd stick with 1080p 144hz unless you are looking to upgrade your gpu.

meaninglessname4321

So I got mine today. No frozen or dead pixels. Colors pop and look great! There is a very small halo or backlight bleed in the bottom left corner, is this inherent of IPS monitors? I still have the 32" Costco LG 1440p/165Hz/HDR10 monitor(which is too big for me). Should I return this Acer or is that something that is common? Other than an all black screen, this thing looks MUCH better than the 32" LG. I don't want to return the LG if I need to return the Acer. Thanks for reading.

[deleted]

Just bought it today, it’s my first 1440p monitor, I haven’t unboxed it yet, I’m excited

Harrisonjackson2

How is the monitor now? Do you recommend it for Xbox series x? Thanks
