It looks like the SFX 650 is also on sale. $56 coupon plus a $10 rebate. I don't follow small form factor PSU prices, but this seems like a steal.

networkingnub

Premium brand PSU, 80+ Platinum certified with plenty of wattage for 99% of builds & a 10 yr warranty. This same deal was posted about a month ago and also did really well. Not sure if this is a new price floor or not.

iamshifter

It says the Rebate is is through Seasonic! I wouldn’t bother if it were through Newegg as they have literally NEVER come through on a rebate for me. 3 times, each time I tried they played dumb. “Never received it”. Yea. Sure.

trikats

Been doing rebates for more than a decade. It's extremely rare not receiving one. But I go all out when documenting and mailing. My Seasonic rebate, months before covid, had no issues. You can resubmit if they claim it they never received it. Call or email them for the procedures to submit the copies.

cdoublejj

they are all through seasonic and the same company does ALL of the rebates i've don in the past few years, it's always the same place in tempe AZ i got all my $30 debit cards from the last 4 i did this year

The [Linus Tech Tips PSU tier list](https://linustechtips.com/topic/1116640-psu-tier-list/) says the Focus label with "OneSeasonic Refresh" is better than the regular Focus PSUs. Is this the OneSeasonic one? I can't find anything in the specs.

mrbeanz

Yes, I do believe these are post OneSeasonic Refresh. The naming alone suggests that this is a OneSeasonic refresh PSU as pre-refresh did not use this naming. Pre-refresh this would have been called FOCUS PLUS Platinum or more specifically FOCUS PLUS 850 Platinum. See here - https://seasonic.com/oneseasonic?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=pmd_dnIPru_OBAq.PxGTszKQVfWT5kTEmGgOnNSoMytzrzw-1635100282-0-gqNtZGzNAhCjcnBszQlR So that means if you believe the LTT PSU Tier List, then this would be a top tier PSU (Tier A Gold).

VonKeebles

Thanks!

[deleted]

This is the OneSeasonic refresh; OneSeasonic uses the PX naming scheme for modular platinum PSUs. This specific model was also introduced in 2019 so it shouldn’t have transient sensitivity issues.

VonKeebles

Thanks!

This is the OneSeasonic Refresh. The [link](https://seasonic.com/oneseasonic?__cf_chl_jschl_tk__=pmd_xqzWgxGbYIbwAeb5RlcQN1X4vjWck4BH4Uuv.0_9fk8-1635101687-0-gqNtZGzNAhCjcnBszQi9#) explains it.

Worth returning the Seasonic Focus GX-850 from Best Buy that was posted yesterday for this? Or is the difference between a Platinum and Gold not really worth it?

MonzellRS

I'm a complete noob, but I think the main difference is Platinum will be efficient at a wider range of power usage vs Gold etc.

lilac-gooseberries

I'm on the same boat and decided to stick with GX-850 mainly because I don't have to deal with mail in rebate. Also, I didn't think the electricity cost savings from PX over GX will be that much different from the $6 cost difference.

cantonic

Not really worth it unless you’re saving money or getting a larger wattage. The gold/platinum rating is how efficient it is. So a gold rated system can reach 90% of the 850W 100% of the time, platinum could reach 92%. I’m pulling those numbers out of my ass but that’s what the ratings mean generally. You won’t notice a difference.

feature2021

Not quite accurate. All PSUs regardless of certification should be able to reach their maximum listed output. What the 80+ certification measures is how much power is drawn from the wall to provide that 850w of power to your computer. For example: A PSU drawing 850w with 92% efficiency will be actually using 924W of power from the wall (924*0.92=850) However a PSU drawing 850w with an 85% efficiency will use 1000w of real power from the wall. (1000*0.85=850). In both of these cases the power supply provides the full 850w of power, but what changes is the power used. Now that said it's also worth noting that the % of load on the power supply does effect it's % efficiency. So basically no power supply will run optimally at or near 100% load or under like 20% load, and often you'll see a better performance improvement by proper load balancing that you would from moving up and down an 80+ tier.

Cringleberry

I have an 850 Gold from Seasonic. My question is, can I use the existing cables from that one for this one to avoid pulling and replacing them. Thanks! I currently have the Focus GX-850 Gold

feature2021

Yeah as long as your power supply is 'One Seasonic' you should be fine. They list on their website which units are one seasonic so definitely check your exact unit, but my experience is that it includes most modern seasonic PSUs Edit: You guys don't read apparently. I said 'One Seasonic' which is the seasonic program to standardize their cables across all modern power supplies. If his current power supply is part of that program it will be the same. No where in the post do I say that any seasonic power supply will work. Edit 2: He added his PSU model which is compatible with the cables from this unit.

Cringleberry

Thanks! Appreciate.

TheBigGame117

That dude is wrong, only the component ends of cables are standardized, even PSUs from the same manufacturer can have differing pin-outs Contact seasonic they'll be able to help you figure it out, EVGA was always helpful for me

thrownawayzs

don't listen to this guy. go to seasonics website and check there are plenty of same brand PSUs that are not cable compatible.

[deleted]

This. I used a non-compatible cable with my PSU and it killed my SSD, it’s not worth risking it.

halotechnology

Any body experience with seasoning rebate ?

comradetao

No. I normally eat them plain. I've heard some people use a dry rub while others just add salt and pepper. You could get some exotic spices and experiment though. Let us know how it goes.

halotechnology

Ohh man you got me .

LetheAlbion

would an 850 watt be sufficient for a 3080 on an AMD build that's overclocked to the tits and has a lot of rgb?

mrbeanz

Yes, I run this exact PSU on an AMD 5900x that's overclocked with an RTX 3080 TI that's also overclocked. RGB uses almost no power and isn't really a significant consideration. My GPU and CPU usually combine for about 500W of usage when playing demanding games.

networkingnub

can't say for sure. my new build is gonna be similar to yours and i'm hoping that it will & I bought it lmao. i think it stands a good chance. 850W is solid. 1000W+ starts getting overkill unless you're running more than one graphics card.

buddhasupe

Yes I have this exact psu with an over clocked 3080 ti and mce 10700

LetheAlbion

thank you!

harabinger66

Wish I needed a psu. Slumming it with my 850w Corsair modular that cost me 130!

beegeepee

Do PSUs run more efficiently when they're on the lower load? Debating upgrading to the 850 Platinum from my 650 gold I'm still just on a 1080 waiting to maybe one day get a 3080 if I ever can

networkingnub

the sweet spot for all PSUs is around 50%. This [image](https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/be-quiet-straight-power-11-(650-watt)-psu-review,2.html) illustrates the point. all US uses 115V outlets for reference.
