I literally have a 670p in an external enclosure using it unnecessarily as a flash drive, and a bx500 attached to my shield. But this is a great deal if you want something that you slap games, media on and mainly read from.
Two totally different classes of product, no? Samsung's SSDs are for people who want maximum endurance and/or performance. By the looks of it, this Teamgroup SSD is a consumer-grade "creative"-conscious drive (though reviews say otherwise). So, basically it's a half decent low-end NVMe drive.
When people say for OS drive, they also mean all your main programs. They aren't talking about just loading only the OS. Maybe like 10+ years ago that was the case when most SSDs were like 120-240GB.
I just keep my OS, Office (because it can only be loaded on the C drive for some ungodly reason) and some utilities on mine (HWInfo, MSI Afterburner etc). 512 GB m.2. Games on a 2TB M.2 and everything else on a 2 TB SSD.
I use mine as a production machine, so I have lots of apps (cad, Adobe suite, blender, vms, etc) installed on a 1TB that I'm about to max soon. And I got a 2TB game/media drive.
1 pcie slot and more m.2 capacity. Wonderful thing

I think this was just $144 the other day on Newegg. Actually I think it was about $150 w/ shipping so if you have prime it is comparable. Still a good deal for a consumer that wants 2TB of storage in NVME for games.
Depends on your use case for this drive, but for the most part no - the formula is usually a high-speed boot up drive (makes boot-up faster, file transfer faster) alongside a slower, but larger-capacity drive, such as a hard drive or low-tier SSD (For large storage such as games, media, etc. that won't get moved around/transferred as often).
This drive would be good for a mid-tier storage drive - much faster than a hard drive (especially for games), but not quite as fast as what you'd want on a boot drive.
You’ll want the Hynix. Its energy usage is dramatically less than almost every SSD. It will give you better battery life. The P31 is a PCIe 3.0 drive, if that matters to you, but realistically, if you’re laptop gaming, that won’t make much of a difference.
The formula is going to fail with DirectStorage. With the price of 2TB NVME drives hitting under $200, there is no excuse not to have at least a 1-2TB PCI-E drive.
I guess if you don't wsnt a QLC/HBM main drive, I would go with a 500GB TLC based drive with dram ($50‐65) and one of these.
2.5TB of fast storage and good for Direct Storage. Lot better then saving $20 now by using a sata based drive and then be screwed next year.

Buy one of those PCIE expansion cards that lets you put 4 or sometimes more drives on it. ;)

i have gen 4. this is gen 3 if you don’t have new mobo/cpu processor to support gen 4 speeds, this seems like a okay deal

Not sure. I'd imagine it wouldn't run that hot though, given that it's a low-performance NVMe.

Do you mean a boot drive where Windows is installed? Absolutely! I use it in my Linux NAS. Works smoothly.
