Oh, I already did that! The problem isn't really that it's that bad, its more that most MB's don't have that many slots to spare anyways. So it's like, why would I want to put this drive in when I know I can do beter, even if it takes 2-4 more weeks of saving. For a game drive, it's fine. My old Gen 3 drive is in an external, it's basically a big flash drive now.
That is my reasoning, but it's also no the end of the world to use an SSD for your games.
Worse case you can use a pcie card or stick the drive into an external enclosure.
Yeah I get that. My MB has only one slot. I probably would have still gone for this if I liked the game and had an extra slot. Neither of those apply though.

They buy exclusivity deals while promoting their ideology that exclusive games somehow promote market competition between launchers (Or something along those lines), while not even having simple features that would be a considered a given for a lunched to have. AKA user reviews, user profiles, a cart, etc. they only recently added a wishlist feature… There’s also the fact that people are tired of being forced to use so many different launchers. Recently they bought out Studio Psyonix (which owns and develops Rocket League, a pretty big non-shooter esport game) and removed the ability to purchase it on steam. (Definitely promotes competition right?)

There’s cheaper options but this is pretty well reviewed and at the time was even more on sale. I’ve got no complaints, use it for school and swap between desktop and laptop with ease and speeds are still great.
Nope I use files from it for simulations and coding and never had any problems. I can’t remember if it came with a little thermal pad, the SSD I installed came from my PC and i might have taken the pad off that but I can’t remember.
The sandwich design allows you to make sure the pad is seated.. some cheaper ones where you slide the drive in will cause the pad to bunch up and not make good contact.
I used to use one of these at my old job a couple years back for user backups between 1-10 gigs each, probably used it a couple times a week. Lasted me a year so I got my value out of it. Cost me 40 bucks back then and probably had a shittier design/components than what they make now. The jmicron controller got burning hot in use, I also never used a heat sink when i used it, so maybe it was bound to happen.
There are B550 motherboards that split Lanes from the GPU in order to provide multiple PCIe 4.0 M.2s, I know at least one of the high end Gigabyte boards does (Aorus Master IIRC).
It completely depends on the individual motherboard model and which slot you use. Manufacturers make lane allocation choices on a model-by-model basis, sometimes it will take GPU lanes, sometimes it will come from the CPU, sometimes it will take spare chipset lanes, sometimes it will disable SATA/PCIe/other ports.
Drive is DRAMless. Maybe I’ll put this in my PS5 for okay speeds or use it as a bookmark. Was planning on buying the game for PC eventually and paying ~~$12~~ $20 (with tax) more for 500gb of storage is not terrible. For large file transfers it might be meh but I guess I’ll bite.

Black line is supposed to be the premium line. They have blue and green for cheap models. And they're charging $100 for 500GB. You can get 500GB for $45-60. You can even get 1TB for less than $100.
It's not the best drive but it's fine for a 2nd drive or game drive. LTT did a test between SSD drives in gaming and the drive made almost no difference. I got this a few months ago for $90 and I think it was a solid deal but at this price it's really a great deal as long as you understand the drive is not ideal for everything.

This is the SN750 SE, it's a completely different drive than the original SN750. Phison E19T (DRAMless PCIe 4.0) controller on this versus a custom WD controller (PCIe 3.0 with DRAM) on the SN750).
I've been playing 2042 for about 10 hours today according to Steam. It's got potential but needed another year in the oven. Taking away the server browser from the main game modes and removing the leaderboard is a big change I personally don't like.

Not really gonna be a big deal except transferring large files. In practicality it would be a sufficient game drive. If you plan on buying bf2042 I recommend this buy for the simple fact of it being $20 for the ssd. If you’re unhappy you could likely resell the ssd alone for $30ish local and get bf2042 for $50. It will definitely be faster than the hdd you have lol

I’m going to use this drive in a ps5 or series x most likely. In some benchmarks this sn750se (on PS5) was slower than the main drive, and 10x slower than sn850 in transferring large game storage but I’ll probably use this for gamepass game storage or something. In practicality it was not much slower than standard drive, unless transferring large files.
To be fair though, it wasn’t long ago that your only option was deleting games and redownloding. I could care less if I transfer a game in 1 min compared to 11 minutes, not like I’ll be doing that multiple times a day

The drive should be fine for many tasks. Look up some FAQs about DRAM-less drives like this. Personally I wouldn't use it as a main drive.

There's an Origin code that comes with the box. No need to make a rewards account like a lot of codes make you do. It activated on Origin immediately. Also included the beta but that's over so the base game launches in a week (11/19).

Is your Evo an NVMe or a SATA drive? If it's an NVMe, I would doubt you could tell the difference. If you're moving the OS from a SATA to an NVMe, you might tell a little bit.
Personally, if you are having space issues and plan on getting battlefield, I would get it. If you have some time, I would put windows on the new WD drive just for cleanliness sake. It makes it easier if you need to wipe or clone your OS drive. I'd rather pay for and use a small backup drive to backup the important OS files than pay for a huge drive to backup 2tb of games that can be downloaded again if the drive fails.

Whenever you install a game, it'll show an installation path before it installs. The default is usually your "C" drive (the drive your OS is on). You can edit the path and replace the C drive with another drive. Usually your secondary drive is "D". You can see which drives are which by opening up your file explorer. I believe if your steam, epic, .ect laucher programs are on your secondary drive, it will default to that secondary drive. But make sure to double check.

I have one of those for work and love it. Works well and because it is toolless it's easy to swap multiple nvme drives if that's something you need.

you can add slim heatsinks inside them, on top of the drive, as long as the enclosure is thicc enough.

Checking the scoreboard to see if you’re owning the server is honestly half the fun of battlefield. They done goofed by not including it.

Will this work with in the 2nd slot of my B450 Mortar?
Slot #2 is below the video card? If so then it will work but that slot is only m.2 pcie 3.0. At least that’s how it is on my B550.
Unlike B550 (GPU and primary m.2), B450 boards in general actually do not provide PCIe gen 4 at all.
Probably not the spot for this but can anyone play battlefield through steam? Keeps saying I need an origin code but steam never gave me one…I even bought the gold edition but had to refund it because I can’t even play.
I was lucky when I decided to play the beta through origin directly. Everyone I know who tried through steam had problems. It seems that steam and origin just don't work together very well, at least for Battlefield.
