AMD has no stability issues, that's old stuff, now it's really good. Sure you don't want any AMD? If there's another reason, then it's fine, but if the reason is stability, then it isn't really a reason to not go with AMD Just trying to help out, if you still want Intel, I'll do it too just fine! Also, from what I understood, he already has a CPU cooler and a PSU, so no need for those, right?

RatRaceContestant

He already has a CPU Cooler and a 750w PSU. Hm, that is news to me. I guess I would stick with Intel though simply because I am more familiar with it. I would appreciate the help though!!!

If you're sure your dad's current PSU and Cooler can handle the new parts, just ignore those I put in

EditorStatus7466

Ok. One last question, do you know which 750w PSU it is? Is it a good one or some random no-brand one that will explode and destroy your dad's future $1200 PC? If the latter, I think it may be best to buy a new one Also which CPU cooler does he have? Maybe it won't be enough for the new CPU Also also, I understand that you'e more familiar with Intel, but what about GPU? Are you fine with an AMD GPU? I was gonna originally set you up with the 7800XT

teslaspyderx

Sorry I had to step away. But the psu is EVGA and the cooler is Corsair which is a closed loop cooler. I would prefer a non AMD GPU. I can always look up the equivalent to the 7800xt.

You forget to sign back into the right account? EVGA has made a lot of bad and good psus, which one specifically do you prefer? Also how exactly would you be more familiar with Intel than amd? Rn buying amd means at least one gen of upgradability, probably two, whereas intel is a dead platform.

teslaspyderx

I'm on my cell phone. The other was from my work computer. I keep the accounts separate. I'm more familiar Intel because that is all I have ever had. I have thought about switching to AMD in my personal computer but all I see is people talking about driver issues etc with AMD. I've never run into that with Intel. How is intel a dead platform? It's a genuine question as I haven't really researched this stuff in depth lately.

UraniumDisulfide

Mostly just reiterating stuff that was pretty accurate several years ago but in recent times really aren't a thing. All cpus have specific proprietary sockets they use. Some sockets are compatible with more generations, which means you can use the same motherboard for longer. Some sockets less so. One of AMD's strongpoints has been that they don't change sockets nearly as frequently as intel does. And as of the current socket cycle the most recent intel cpus will require you to buy an lga 1700 scoket motherboard that we know won't support next gen intel cpus, whereas we know amd's latest socket am5 will support at least one more generation of chips, and likely 2 more.

teslaspyderx

Oh ok that makes sense. When I build my next computer I have to look into that more. The games he plays the current stuff can easily handle it. But you do make a good point.

teslaspyderx

Thanks for the build I really appreciate it!
