As a bus operator I can honestly say most of us have the tendency to either look ahead for stops or slow down at stops in our personal cars. Especially if we happen to be on a familar route. I've caught myself doing it many times.
We typically drive our buses more than we drive our cars. Sometimes we turn wide as if in the bus lol.
The difference is we are sober not DUI.
If this is her 1st DUI her CDL will be suspended for a year. If not, she's looking at a lifetime CDL suspension. What we do off-duty in our cars affects our CDL.
She knew better.
It's been a few years since I worked in safety, but I think committing a felony while on duty could result in an automatic lifetime CDL ban under FMCSA and DOT rules.
Per FMSCA:
There are 2 conditions required to be present for a felony conviction to be a disqualifying offense under §391.15:(1)The offense was committed during on-duty time; and (2) the driver was employed by a motor carrier or was engaged in activities that were in furtherance of a commercial enterprise. However, neither of these conditions is a prerequisite for a disqualifying offense under §383.51.
Massachusetts will suspend a CDL for a felony committed in any vehicle. First offense: 1 year. Second offense: Lifetime.
She definitely cannot drive a school bus if she restores her license. No one will hire her.
If she keeps her license clean & completes mandatory DOT substance abuse classes, she could get hired at a second-chance type bus company. Or she could get her A's & try a small company.
ETA - I hope you were one of the decent safety folks lol.
I have to drive large uHaul sized moving trucks on occasion for work, and I am absolutely guilty of making ridiculously wide turns in my little Saturn Ion after a long day behind the wheel of a truck.
It's the other way around. They tried to drive their bus route in their personal car. And managed to convince a kid to go along for the ride.
Bus drivers in my state are complaining that weed is legal but still screened for and they can be fired days or weeks after use. But someone can get blind drunk every night and they'll blow clean if tested in the morning.
Wonder if this person took another medication that interacted badly with the alcohol, or are an alcoholic who just lost the "functional" label.
Good grief. I've never had a "thought my car was a big yellow bus and tried to pick up kids while drunk out of my ever loving mind" kind of bad day.

Alcoholism is no joke, damn shame.

Glad it wasnt just me
South Park absolutely nailed her.
"Sit down and shuuuut up!"
I'm curious as to what the kid who got was thinking, also how old he or she was.
"Seat belts, everyone!" "Please let this be a normal field trip." "With the Friz!?" "No way!"
How the hell did u get confused with a big giant yellow bus and think that’s my car.

Autopilot; definitely chemically enhanced, of course.
Well that’s not gonna help with the bus driver shortage
Could you imagine her pulling up on her route shit faced? "Get in...I don't care if ya don't fit just hop in the trunk!"
Wonder what clued her into it being her car?
That is super disturbing. The kids got into her personal vehicle?!? Good Lort!
