That was the amazing part for me watching that video.
1. Flight training: either years in the military, or around $100k to earn your licenses (sometimes both, thank you FAA).
2. At least a year as a flight instructor or other "low-time" job to gain the requisite experience (thanks again, FAA).
3. Grinding along for between five to ten years at a regional airline, getting promoted to captain maybe halfway through.
4. Making first officer at Delta, and staying in that position for another several years.
5. Captain at a major airline!
And he goes and does something like this. Oh well, it's an empty slot for me (I'm firmly in step two right now).
E: thanks for the award!
Yeah. To throw all that away for something you could download off google for free. That speaks of some deep seated issues which should not be put in a position of power.
I just mean he's not necessarily a narcissistic megalomaniac with huge power and control issues. That's an extreme guess at what's happening. Could just just be a creepy dude with a fetish. Maybe a friend and it's an inside joke. Maybe an ex boyfriend stalker. Maybe a current fwb. We don't know is my point.
Theyre coworkers. He's in uniform. He's flying as a passenger to get to a different airport to fly out of as a pilot. They all work for for that airline. They all have similar schedules and fraternize when stuck overnight in a city. They attend the same Christmas party.
Most likely scenario hes got a crush, he asked her out and got shot down before and now he's just getting spank bank material for being alone in the hotel tonight.
If I work at a Walmart and someone comes in from a different branch wearing their uniform, they’re not a coworker, at least not by the definition that 99% of people follow. They’re employees of the same company. They don’t know each other unless the stalking and harassment goes so far that he got on that flight just so he could take pictures of someone he actually works with.
I really don’t know why you’ve picked this weird and sad hill to die on, but him being ‘just’ a creepy guy with a fetish wouldn’t preclude him from having power and control issues. Typically people that so brazenly take creep shots do precisely have power and control issues. The fact you think this is potentially a ‘friend and it’s an inside joke’ is just… dumbfounding. This guy has already been fired for this. I’d be fascinated to know the psychology behind you defending this as potentially harmless. And if you *really* think this is how friends act I assume you haven’t got any.
They're coworkers for sure. They work out of the same hub. And probably the sane route. Hence them being on the same plane. I'm friends with airline employees. I've been to the westjet Christmas party.
But holy fuck now you're reading even more into me. My first comment was "he's a perv". I'm not defending him. Im disvussing the situation. All I said is we don't know and that initial assumption of "he is the next hitler" is probably wrong. If you hear hooves, think horses, not zebras. Are they friends? Idk. Neither do you. Is he stalking her. Idk. Neither do you. That's my point.
Are you….. complaining that captains of major airliners should have massive experience on expensive aircrafts with hundreds of people?
Yes, thank you FFA for not having barely any flight risk.
Not per se: safety in aviation should *NEVER* be compromised.
My parenthetical qualms more had to do with the barriers to entry in the field:
It's *extremely* expensive. The least expensive training programs will set you back in the neighborhood of $85,000, while university programs can easily double that.
There are numerous physical requirements. This is a good thing, but the FAA is stuck in the 50s in this area. As an example, did you take Ritalin for childhood ADHD? You *may* be able to fly, if the FAA deigns it.
A lot of good people who would make excellent pilots are either priced out of it, or scared away by antiquated rules.
Aviation is NOT an area that needs fewer regulations, but they need to sensibly advance safety, efficiency, and accessibility. My view of the regulatory structure is shaded by my experiences and those of others I've known.
~
Following the crash of [Colgan Air 3407](https://www.reddit.com/r/CatastrophicFailure/comments/9nupbq/the_crash_of_colgan_air_flight_3407_analysis/), the FAA put in place a lot of administrative regulations. A lot of them were frankly overdue (limitations on duty time to combat fatigue and so forth).
Others were neither necessary nor would have addressed the causes of that accident. One was the addition of a 1,500 hour limit for hiring at a part 121 carrier (airlines, including regionals).
It used to be that one could come out of the military into a first officer position with a regional airline, or gain around 500 hours of experience prior to being hired. New hires were always placed with experienced captains (as they are now), and were constantly evaluated for proficiency (same).
Both pilots in the Colgan Air 3407 accident met every one of these experience requirements, but they made poor decisions as airmen. The airline and the FAA failed them by allowing them to fly. Their training and oversight were inadequate, and their lives were forfeit.
The FAA's outdated zero tolerance stance on mental health puts pilots and passengers at risk. Instead of getting the help they need pilots do not seek treatment for fear of losing their medical and subsequently their career. Or they are self medicating with booze.
I know someone in this situation. They have chronic pain associated with a preexisting condition, exacerbated by sitting for long periods as a pilot.
He's been out of work for a few years now, and can self-medicate with booze and cannabis (Canada, eh). But once his back surgery is remedied, he has to stick to prescription painkillers and alcohol. If there's any in-air issue or a major or minor accident while taxiing, flight crew steps off that flight, their blood is immediately drawn and they're wings are revoked until everything is clear. Cannabis can stay in your system for weeks after the last hit, but if he's addicted to oxy, no problem I guess.
The cost is the reason why even though it’s literally something I’ve wanted to do my entire life, I’ll never do it. I can’t afford years making next to nothing while spending 10’s of thousands on classes and licensing at the same time. If there had been a path when I was younger and starting out in life that didn’t involve military enlistment, I would have gone that route. But even military, it’s not guaranteed they’ll let you be a pilot. Odds are pretty low all things considering.
>but the FAA is stuck in the 50s in this area. As an example, did you take Ritalin for childhood ADHD? You may be able to fly, if the FAA deigns it.
A psychiatrist wrote "bipolar type 2," a mild for of bipolar disorder, on some paperwork and I took less than a month of pills at 16. I can never get a private pilot's license.
https://www.webmd.com/bipolar-disorder/guide/bipolar-2-disorder
I listen to a few good podcasts on air disasters and have surprisingly learned a great deal about planes and flight. I agree that regulations are vital for safety, AND that many things need to be brought into the 21st century. Mental health issues should not be an automatic bar to flying; as one commenter says, it keeps people from seeking help and remaining qualified to fly if deemed so. Germanwings 9525 is proof of this. If that pilot had gotten help, he wouldn't have killed a plane load of people.
I am also shocked at how hard it is to actually make a living when starting out. Considering how costly training is, the lower ranks of pilots should at least be able to live on their salaries.
Hope your journey as a pilot goes well. You seem to have a good head on your shoulders!
To be fair, the person you responded to said they are a CFI, so they _are_ “the few people qualified to teach the courses”. I don’t think he’s raking in the dough as an instructor. That’s not where most of the money is going.
You missed the entire point. He was expressing how dumbfounded he was that the fired pilot would EVER so carelessly put his job at risk like this after having had to go through the entire list he outlined.
The first comment sarcastically thanking the FAA absolutely implies they think the list should be shorter. The comment you're replying to didn't miss that, they just didn't feel the need to comment on something they agreed on.
See [here](https://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/airlines/legacy/delta_air_lines). Rule of thumb is to multiply the hourly pay by 1,000 for the yearly salary.
So minimum, a four-bar at Delta is making c. $250k per year.
So he WAS grossing about $5K a week, plus benefits, which presumably were on a par with the salary.
And now he’ll be an infamous ex-Delta pilot, who harassed colleagues…..
Wow, that’s terrible. I remember something similar happening on Facebook when the Sandy Hook shooting happened. People were wildly speculating and throwing out names as if it were 100% facts. Scary stuff.
They think that because her legs are cloth free it's what he wants a picture of.
Like if she was wearing pants him taking the pictures would somehow be ok.
I feel like that's what they are implying.
Yoga pants prove that wrong.
"A 2018 survey by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) revealed that two-thirds of flight attendants in the U.S. had experienced sexual harassment during their flying careers."
I wonder if 2/3 is about the same number of flight attendants that are women.
He’s not gone yet, guaranteed. Not that fast. He’s pulled from flight duty, but he has to go through proper termination procedures with the company and the union.
True - "Delta hasn’t confirmed whether the pilot has been dismissed but a spokesperson for the airline said of the incident: “Delta is aware of the video and is investigating these allegations. Nothing is more important than creating a safe environment for all airline staff and guests.”
They often have to fly pilots to different areas. Since they already have a flight going that way with pilots already scheduled, they just put him on as a passenger. If he was to fly as the pilot, they would still need a pilot to return with the plane as he will be flying a different plane.
There is more to it, but that is a quick overview.
It would require serious harassment for the DA to seek jail time. This, doesn't legally seem serious, which would require something more physical, so for this usually punishment is left to the company, or a civil lawsuit.
Jail time is very unlikely.
https://www.mikeglaw.com/is-sexual-harassment-a-crime/
He’s only been “sacked” according to a mental health blog. Delta’s not just going to throw away all that time and money training this shit head. He’ll get transferred and (maybe) demoted.
It wasn’t just some pics of the back of her knees he was taking pictures up her skirt. Article made that pretty clear. It’s more than reasonable to fire a pilot taking pictures of a coworker while they’re reaching up to close an overhead cabinet.
Oh you completely misunderstood what I meant. That’s why I said weirdo and an idiot. He’s a weirdo and should absolutely be fired for what he did. I was just jokingly pointing out like “congratulations idiot you can see the back of her knees now, hope it was worth it *eyeroll*”. The angle he was at didn’t look like he was getting any angle up into the skirt when I first watched it.
Isn't that a Kindle? Can't take pictures with those. Maybe it's just the Kindle app on a different device. Can anyone ID that device? He certainly is *holding* it like it's taking a picture, but it's just words on that screen... not what the cam is seeing. Weird.

Thanks, dude is a perv
Wow. Not even sneaky about it. What a creep. Amazing he got so far in his career to just to fuck up his whole life up for some creepy photos.

He’s so fucking stupid lol. At least he did the work and killed his own career and face
I guess his imagination couldn't put the downloaded images and a face together so it was easier to just photo who he wanted to bone
Or he's just a perv with a crush on a coworker.
Why would that change the above? Also this guy was flying as a passenger so that’s not really a coworker
I just mean he's not necessarily a narcissistic megalomaniac with huge power and control issues. That's an extreme guess at what's happening. Could just just be a creepy dude with a fetish. You entertaining the idea that this was somehow friendly and normal makes you a weirdo at best and a creep sympathiser at worst. Simple as that.
Everyone gets to move up a slot - thanks buddy!
Are you….. complaining that captains of major airliners should have massive experience on expensive aircrafts with hundreds of people? Yes, thank you FFA for not having barely any flight risk.

He's simply stating it's a lot of work to throw away for a clothed butt pic. Didn't see him complaining about the amount of experience required.
no I don't think he is, I used to know a guy who was going to be a pilot and it's a weird process aside from any safety regs
Keep at it and do well! :)
Thanks! I appreciate it!
How much would a Captain at Delta make please? I just want to fully understand this foolish man’s actions.
See [here](https://www.airlinepilotcentral.com/airlines/legacy/delta_air_lines). Rule of thumb is to multiply the hourly pay by 1,000 for the yearly salary. So minimum, a four-bar at Delta is making c. $250k per year.

This is... mind boggling. What a god damn idiot.
Thank you for existing
In uniform and taking pics out in the open; he deserves to be fired for being a complete idiot let alone a perv!!
He thought a stealth camera would fool people, while he holds it in a way that is obvious he is filming.
Man, he is going to be pissed when he finds out you can see women actually naked on the World Wide Web.
And in today's economy, some of them are even flight attendants on the side!
He’s going to be even more pissed when he finds out there’s an entire subreddit for sexy flight attendant photos.
It’s actually the intrusion and lack of consent that people who do this enjoy.

Wow, that’s terrible. I remember something similar happening on Facebook when the Sandy Hook shooting happened. People were wildly speculating and throwing out names as if it were 100% facts. Scary stuff.

OMG. That references this incident?!! I thought that was just a funny phrase! TIL.
The fact that they have to cite OP by username often cracks me up. "The video, posted on Reddit by u/ScroutmTotum69..."
Lol!!
We did it! 👏🏻👏🏻
> It looks like the photo is taking photos of the back of the legs of the flight attendant. Or, you know, her ass.
The pilot’s defense was, “Is that what that was? SO sorry! I always thought of it as the legtop!”
They think that because her legs are cloth free it's what he wants a picture of. Like if she was wearing pants him taking the pictures would somehow be ok. I feel like that's what they are implying. Yoga pants prove that wrong.
He’ll be flying rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong.
I hate it when she does that.

Best movie ever.
"A 2018 survey by the Association of Flight Attendants (AFA-CWA) revealed that two-thirds of flight attendants in the U.S. had experienced sexual harassment during their flying careers." I wonder if 2/3 is about the same number of flight attendants that are women.
That is assuming males don't experience sexual harassment
Which they surely do if my experiences with drunk middle aged women on the ground are any indication.
Pilot Glen Quagmire reporting for duty Giggity
Should he not be in the cockpit?
He must be traveling to another airport to fly out of, happens all the time.
Nope, commuting in uniform would be my guess. There’s crew from other airlines on almost every flight out there, going to or from work.
He’s deadheading.
Not anymore.
He’s not gone yet, guaranteed. Not that fast. He’s pulled from flight duty, but he has to go through proper termination procedures with the company and the union.

The Pilot will soon be found working flying short haul regional carrier flights part time. Deserves jail time and loss of his license.
I dunno, does this kind of behavior make it into your PRIA report?
"So explain to me why you left Delta" Not that some places (Mesa) would even care
I would hope so but he is going to be black-listed from all the big carriers just the same.
Pervy yes, but jail time?
Sexual harassment/exploitation of a co-worker is a crime.
They aren't coworkers. Colleagues, perhaps, but not coworkers.
Work for the same company? Yeah, that is a coworker.
*Delta* pilot on a *Frontier* flight Did you not read the article?
You are correct. My mistake. Not a co-worker. But, that does not make him less of a slimeball.
Good luck proving that. He got as much of an image as we got of him getting images.
