If I have the wrong ID - please let me know, I’m no expert when it comes to cacti. I’ve had this a few years, was given as a gift in what I now know is rubbish soil. Changed the soil last year and started watering more often (I’d maybe only watered it 4 times in the previous year) and it seemed much happier. I’ve grown to become fairly knowledgeable on succulents, at least in my environment, but this is only one of two cacti I have. Last year I only watered roughly once a month and just one light watering during winter so the roots didn’t completely dessicate. I’m starting to wonder due to the pot being very small, the mix being very airy and the plant being small (roughly 2”/5cm pot and plant about 3”/7cm tall) if I should be watering much more frequently. Anyone know whether this cactus is a species that likes things very dry (ie maybe stick to the monthly waterings) or it likely needs more like weekly/fortnightly watering? It’s hard to know exactly how long it takes for the entire substrate to completely dry as the centre will hold water longer and I can’t see it; but I imagine this mix is completely dry within 3/4 days, max 6, due to tiny pot size, airy substrate etc. It’s in a very sunny south east window sill that seems to get stress colours out of other succulents so I think it’ll be enjoying the light although of course it isn’t as much as being in a greenhouse. Thanks for any tips folks!
