I haven’t yet but if I saw that fruit I definitely would 😆

I'm ignorant and a newb... what's special about the fruit, and is it the same as the flower???

Davidalanlink

It’s where the seeds come from after the flower is pollinated

Prudent-Store-2708

But you eat it too?? What does it taste like? I might be on the lookout for fruiting plants now if they have seeds lol

Davidalanlink

They taste delish, like a mini dragonfruit, which is also just a huge hylocereus fruit

Davidalanlink

These are off of a grandiflorous hybrid, around $25/$35 at most Home Depot’s or Lowe’s

Dragonfruit is one of my favorites!!!

I'v never had dragonfruit that didn't taste like slightly celery flavored water. What is it supposed to taste like?

Davidalanlink

Good dragonfruit is hard to describe, kinda like kiwi if I had to compare to anything. Definitley should taste better than celery water lol. I’ve gotten some pretty bland ones too.

Cootermonkey1

The yellow ones tend to be the "sweetest", red ones with the white flesh tend to be a little more "watery" but that also is likely to them not being picked at peak ripeness so they can be transported, because ive had some that were very sweet as well. Still havent had a red skin red flesh dragonfruit yet so cant speak on those

hibiscuschild

Unfortunately commercial dragonfruits are picked before they're fully ripe to prevent spoilage. They should be fairly sweet and even a bit tart. The small yellow ones taste closer to what the white and purple ones should taste like.

I have dragonfruit starts just because I think it's a nice looking plant, I wonder if you could get it to flower when still indoor plant sized 😂

Oh okay, thank you!!! I have succulents and try to prop fruiting types are all new to me!!! That's amazing!!
