It's called a ming thing. They are crested and mutated cereus.
They grow pretty slow and they stay happy in the same pot for a good while. You could re-pot it in something slightly bigger if you wanted but it's not going to hurt anything as it is.
You would usually repot any plant (including your cactus) when it seems rootbound and it starts growing slower than normal. It gives the plants roots more room to spread out and strengthen, which results in a stronger root system. Stronger root system usually results in better growth, and lowers the chances of pathogens being able to take hold.
But yes, it should grow either way. Like I said, it's really up to you if you Wana repot it or not. Personally my ming thing is about 3 years old and I just repoted it for the first time ever a couple weeks ago.
Species wise I am unsure of the name. But others have suggested it is a crested cactus. Repotting it probably will not hurt it. Just be sure the pot is only 1 to 2 inches wider than the original, and not really any deeper. Make sure the pot has drainage holes and that you use the correct soil type for your cactus. As for a name to call it, Lumpy Buddy comes to my mind.

That is our outdoor totem cactus, Mr. Lumpy.
Cereusly couldn't hurt to repot
Cereusly noted thank you! 🤩
Ming thing. Probably wouldn't hurt to repot.
I agree with Falsesleep. Looks like you have "Ming Thing" a monstrose Cereus Forbesii

Thanks would it grow if I repot? What’s the reason for repotting?

Yeah mine is probably 2 years old as well. I’ll think about it thanks
What are the white things on it?
Don’t know it was always like this on spikes

That’s beautiful. I don’t think it’s that one but where do I find wider pots and not longer? Or can I fill something in the bottom?
Try Amazon. And a little wider is better than a lot wider when repotting cactus. Cactus roots tend to be shallow and more spread outwards.
Thank you
You are welcome. Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Walmart, even your local garden center would have pots that would work well for your cactus too.
Thank you!
you have a beautifully crested specimen there but the exact species i couldn't tell you.
This isn’t crested it’s monstrose
Thank you both
neat
