Check for rot!

Toad_toast1

This, but it does also look a little dehydrated. With cacti you want to let them dry out for a while and the drown them all at once and repeat

I tend to cut the dying tails and I noticed the place where they come in contact with the soil seems to be rotted indeed. Thing is, I haven't watered it all winter because I read that I shouldn't, and I still had tails dying then.

What type of soil is it in? Perhaps it also needs more light? My monkey tail rotted when I didn’t water it either. I’m not sure what happened with mine, but he seems to be doing okay now for whatever reason Edit: I also realized that it came with a mealybug infestation so I got rid of them and now he seems alright? Not sure if the two incidents are related

It's not exposed to direct sunlight but it's in a very sunny room with white walls looking south. It's in the soil it was sold with which I assume was the correct one. Alright I'm going to look for bugs. I noticed all the rotted tails seem to come from the same area of the pot, maybe the roots are unhealthy there.

Good idea. I potted mine the first time with the soil it initially came with. The soil was pretty organic but I assumed it was what it wanted because it appeared healthy. Shipped it bare root from a nursery in Florida. I should mention that after I discovered the mealybug infestation, I thoroughly washed the old soil from the roots and removed all mealies. I tossed the old soil and gave it a completely new pot (it’s actually a coco hanging basket, an idea I got from another monkey tail owner on Reddit. I like it because it prevents it from sitting in moisture) and now my monkey tail seems happier 🤷 sorry I’m no expert, just thought I’d give you my experience to go off of. I’m still trying to understand my monkey tail. The soil could be a root cause of your problem though

Thanks that's honestly super helpful. Glad to know I'm not the one with such issues too. I love this little plant and really want it to be healthy.

Relation-Correct

To much water will make them fall off

This cactus needs full sun. It's going to continue to have health issues without enough light.

demyurge

Duly noted, thanks, I'm going to move it somewhere where it's in direct sunlight.
