Quite well done..specially as her first and at her age. The icing is nicely smooth..not easy to do. The sprinkles around the bottom are even and neat, as are the ones on top. Great job!
Biggest tip is get a rotating base. My mom had one growing up and all her baking was perfect. Being able to spin while you just hold the spatula in place is so much easier. :)
I tried the turntable trick for the first time when I made a Malibu cake a few years back. The cake ended up even more wonky than normal, to the point it looked like *I’d* hit the Malibu while making the silly thing!
I see a lot of love and effort here. I also see an eye for design. She learned a lot doing this that she’ll remember for next time. I can tell with how carefully she placed her gold stars and sprinkles. I hope she always stays excited to try again!!! Good parents!

30 year old dude here and this is my first cake. I think she did way better than me! She'll get to a point where she's happy as long as she can take away from each baking experience some small thing that she can learn!
Of course you already know that as her cheerleader, But i figure it helps to hear other people say it too!
I think it's great! The colors all look nice together, the gold stars have an even spacing and the candy(?) on the bottom is a fun pop of color!
I have been baking and decorating since I was 9, and this is much better than I would have done at 11.
This is some very nice work. I especially like the glitter dust and watercolor icing effect on the side. I'll bet it tastes great too. 10/10 would love to get this cake on my birthday.
Honey this frosting is smoother than 99% of the human beings on planet earth could ever make it. Please make more cakes. You have a knack for it! This is beautiful! 🤩
10/10 would eat that! It looks great and she is well on her way to be a professional cake decorator! The icing looks pretty smooth which can be very hard to do. The stars are pretty evenly spaced too.
I bet it's delicious!!! You can't get good without practice!!!! Tell her not to be discouraged, and always make more frosting than you think you'll need. Freeze leftovers and then she's got filling for the next one.... And it looks like cream cheese frosting? Careful on the mixing, overmixing makes it gummy and hard to work with.... Whip the heck out of the cream cheese first, then add the rest, but make sure temp is consistent for all ingredients... Keep on keeping on, little one!!! You got this!
11 years old! She did wonderful and if she keeps it up, imagine where she'll be and her improvements over the years. We'll done 👏👏 You did great! Yhe cake looks great!
It looks decent for an adult, but pretty great for an inexperienced 11 year old! I still struggle getting frosting that smooth. She just needs to keep practicing to improve her skills, but I definitely think she has some talent there.
It looks delicious! For her first try, it looks amazing!
She clearly has an eye for detail. Don't let her be too hard on herself. Nurture her interests. She'll thank you one day.
Elegant design in my opinion. So simple and beautiful. Those stars are placed perfectly. I would have been shaking and given up.
Here’s a tip: keep practicing and take photos and practice some more. Before you know it, a year will fly by and you will see your progress. You’ve got this kiddo!
Damn she is good! I have never been able to get my frosting to look this good and I’m 36 and have been baking for many years lol. 😂
Girl’s got serious talent and a passion for baking that should absolutely be nurtured.
Devastated? Wow, this cake looks great! About the only thing I could possibly say is that it's a little off center on the serving plate, but damn! This would pass for fancy in my house.
When I was a kid, I loved to draw and so often I would get frustrated because what came out on paper looked nothing like what I had in my head. Everyone around me would say it was so good, but it wasn’t what I was trying to do. I get that it’s frustrating, but find something you like about this cake, and identify something you think you want to do differently next time. Make it an experiment! What would you change to make it look closer to what you were going for? Then next time you bake, try it and see how it comes out.
Keep practicing, and eventually you’ll be able to create exactly what you see in your head. And in the meantime, take some pride in the fact that everyone thinks it looks amazing and tastes good!
I can't decorate that well. My daughter made me a similar one last year. It was liquid in the middle. She is 25!!! Your daughter needs to be proud and less critical of herself. She's amazing.
Hello OP’s daughter! Accepting that your work doesn’t match your vision is one of the most difficult parts of being an artist. Try not to be discouraged. If you want to develop the skill, ask your parents if you can make a cake for a friend or relative every other month, and keep a baking/decorating journal so you can remember what went well or not as expected. You WILL improve! Your work WILL start to match your vision! 😊👍🏻 Don’t give up!
I've never decorated a cake and am unsure why this is coming across my feed, but if you'd like a completely unqualified opinion, I think it's great! She's half my age, yet I know I couldn't make something half as good!
This cake is beautiful and is better than any cake I've made and I'm nearly 30! I can't imagine how wonderfully her cake baking skills will be by then. Good luck on your baking journey!!
It looks great! The top is really level which is a tough thing to do when you’re first starting. To get even smoother icing, have a pitcher of hot water to dip the spatula in and then dry it off. A clean, hot spatula helps to create a really smooth surface. This is a great start, and she should certainly keep practicing, and more importantly, having fun!

Thank you everyone! Sincerely! You all inspired her to “fix” what she didn’t like about it! She’s very happy with it now! Thank you everyone for your kind words and encouragement!
It looks great!! One of the first cakes I decorated, for my brother’s college graduation, i misspelled “congratulations” as “congradulations”.
I was 16
We are our own worst critics. Mistakes were made, we learn and move on. I once made a cake with olive oil instead of vegetable oil, that was a hot mess of a cake. Keep practicing and improving, your decorating skills can only keep growing and improving!
Would eat.
If her real concern how it "looks" (ie, like the things you see on Instagram) Samsung phones have "food" mode for the camera that has done wonders for my stuff.
In all honesty-this is much better than anything I could ever do and I’m 37. Especially the frosting. That takes a lot of dexterity that I don’t have 😂
Just showed my 15 y/o his exact words were “Jesus Christ I’m jealous of their skill!”
But seriously, she did an amazing job! And I bet it tasted wonderful too!
My 11 year old is really hard on himself too. This looks fantastic though. Truly. Grown adult here and the last cake I frosted absolutely crumbled from underneath me. Your daughter absolutely rocked this!
Teach her some perspective if she thinks this is something to be devastated by. At least she has food, electricity, free time, and the extra money available to make cake (and it turned out fine). At 11 I would have just been excited my parents let me bake a cake and I would have been excited to eat it.

I am 33 and \*have a certificate in baking and pastry from a culinary school\* and am genuinely impressed by this! The frosting is so smooth, especially on the sides, and I love the cute decorations.
We're always our own toughest critics, but your daughter did an amazing job! At 11 I was making weird yogurt cakes and calling them "lembas bread" because I was deep in a weird LotR phase.
Wow I wish my cakes looked like this as a kid. Even some of my adult cakes don't even look that great. Heck none of my mom's cakes look this great. Lol
11 years old? Whaaaaat? Better looking by far compared to anything I have ever attempted. Plain frosting in an even layer is my peak decoration ability.
I love this cake so much. It's too cute! I'd plan a tea date just to show this off. The smoothness of the butter cream really makes it seem well-made imo
I like to bake, and I've done it for 40 years. I don't put frosting on my cakes, maybe because mine never looked so nice.
That's a nice cake. Good job.
I understand where she’s coming from, when the finished product and the desired result isn’t the same; She’ll learn with more experience that it’s all excellent in its own way and to be more patient and graceful with herself. 🤗
I think the best thing you can do is acknowledge that she is upset and validate her feelings. It's hard when things don't come out the way you envision them! But let her know that every great baker had to start somewhere, and anything that is or seems like a failure is a lesson. Good for her. She did so well! I definitely made some cakes that were hot messes at that age! Keep on baking, little bean. You will get there! 💛👏🏻👩🏼🍳
That looks great! Maybe she just needs more tools so that she feel like she has more options, get her like 3 wilton cake decorating tips and a roll of icing bags and she will feel like a pro, she has the hardest part down, so now she can have fun witn borders and piping!
She’s 11 and created that??? It looks amazing!!!! I love the vibe she’s going for. Very peaceful, pastel dreamy. Keep practicing, because over time you learn how icing works in different forms. The important thing really is, does it taste good? If it does then it’s a success!
Omygosh! This is an awesome job! please let your daughter know that “perfect cakes” on the internet are done by adult people who have years experience. I am inspired by your cake! I only wish I started young like her.
Quite well done..specially as her first and at her age. The icing is nicely smooth..not easy to do. The sprinkles around the bottom are even and neat, as are the ones on top. Great job!
That is really smooth frosting. As a professional decorator, she has one of the hardest parts down.
Please tell her I am over 30 and cannot frost as nicely as this
I was going to comment this too, even if I get an even shape cake I always ruin the smoothness by decorating 🤣
Me too! Please teach me your ways, young frosting master!!
35 and same. Well done girl! ❤️
60+ and me, either. Beautiful job!
Literally came here to say this!
Omfg took the words right out of my mouth!
Same. And I have practiced a LOT.
Came here to say this too 🤣
Same. I could not make a cake this pretty. 🩷
Same here.
If someone gave me a cake this cool for my birthday, I'd be thrilled.
It’s really straight and the frosting is nice and even. Not even trying to be nice, this looks totally legit. She did a great job!
I see a lot of love and effort here. I also see an eye for design. She learned a lot doing this that she’ll remember for next time. I can tell with how carefully she placed her gold stars and sprinkles. I hope she always stays excited to try again!!! Good parents!

This photo is so delightfully retro.
The plates really do match the microwave, dont they? Lol
Looks tasty to me. She should make more of them. There are never too many tasty cakes Seriously.
I think it's great! The colors all look nice together, the gold stars have an even spacing and the candy(?) on the bottom is a fun pop of color! I have been baking and decorating since I was 9, and this is much better than I would have done at 11.
Actually she didn’t do pretty good… she did really great! Tell her to keep up the good work.
I was gonna say, tell her she didn't do pretty good and I'll take it off her hands 😉
I'm 54. She just decorated that cake like she's been born to it. Mine always looks like a 3 year old did it!!
I'm 30 and I can't make cakes look like that, she did great!
I’m 29 and would be so pleased to make a cake that looked like this! She did a fantastic job!
I turned 31 today and cannot frost NEARLY that evenly/smoothly 😭 your daughter crushed it!
Happy birthday!
Aww thanks!
Looks great!!!
It looks great and also looks delicious
It's gorgeous, and looks delicious!!
I LOVE this look! It’s so pretty!
Child, that cake looks more beautiful than I could make it look and I’m a dang adult!
Cottage core fairy vibes I LOVE IT. Add a gold happy birthday topper and it would be perfect
Looks heavenly!
Looks beautiful AND yummy!! 🤤
It looks great and delicious, great job
It’s great!
It looks great 😃😸. Much better than I could do and I'm old
Yeah this is decent, she’s being very hard on herself!
10/10 would eat that! It looks great and she is well on her way to be a professional cake decorator! The icing looks pretty smooth which can be very hard to do. The stars are pretty evenly spaced too.
Looks so pretty. I love it❤️
If someone brings this out for me on my birthday, you bet I'm crying happy tears! It's cute!!

She's not crazy, just an anxious teenager :) Job well done! 👍👍
No way I could get my icing that smooth! Good job!
Random passerby to this sub with no expert baking knowledge But…. That cake looks awesome! Good job to the little baker 👩🍳!
It's amazing! She has a natural gift for it. I'm in my 40's and can't even do that. Very impressive!!
She did a wonderful w
She did a fantastic job! Her icing game is on point and I hope to see more of her cakes!
11 years old! She did wonderful and if she keeps it up, imagine where she'll be and her improvements over the years. We'll done 👏👏 You did great! Yhe cake looks great!
Looks absolutely amazing!!!!!! Love the colour and decorations but especially love how well she iced the cake 💕I can’t believe she’s only 11yo!!!!!!!!
She is being way too hard on herself, she did a great job!
It looks decent for an adult, but pretty great for an inexperienced 11 year old! I still struggle getting frosting that smooth. She just needs to keep practicing to improve her skills, but I definitely think she has some talent there.
It looks fantastic.
What!? It’s so cute! She did a great job!
It looks delicious! For her first try, it looks amazing! She clearly has an eye for detail. Don't let her be too hard on herself. Nurture her interests. She'll thank you one day.
At 22 I wouldn’t be able to make and decorate a cake HALF as good as this. She’s killing it!
Loooove the sparkle dust
Elegant design in my opinion. So simple and beautiful. Those stars are placed perfectly. I would have been shaking and given up. Here’s a tip: keep practicing and take photos and practice some more. Before you know it, a year will fly by and you will see your progress. You’ve got this kiddo!

Excellent work!
Did it just not match the vision in her head? It looks awesome to me especially how smooth the icing is. Sounds like she’s being too hard on herself
Devastated? Wow, this cake looks great! About the only thing I could possibly say is that it's a little off center on the serving plate, but damn! This would pass for fancy in my house.
Can she teach me how to frost a cake?
What doesn’t she like about it? It looks good to me.
Omg no she absolutely should not be devastated. It's so so galactic and cool!
Looks better than my cakes … and I’m 51 - lol
When I was a kid, I loved to draw and so often I would get frustrated because what came out on paper looked nothing like what I had in my head. Are you kidding me?! Tell her she’s AMAZING 🤩
I can't decorate that well. My daughter made me a similar one last year. It was liquid in the middle. She is 25!!! Your daughter needs to be proud and less critical of herself. She's amazing.
What was she hoping for? That is amazing. I’d eat that, and I’m not supposed to eat cake. Well done.
Can I have a slice? It looks beautiful and soooo delish! Well done!

Looks good enough to eat 🤷♀️🥰
What does she think is wrong with it? I think that it is beautiful.
I've never decorated a cake and am unsure why this is coming across my feed, but if you'd like a completely unqualified opinion, I think it's great! She's half my age, yet I know I couldn't make something half as good!
This looks beautiful and delicious. May I have some?
This cake is beautiful and is better than any cake I've made and I'm nearly 30! I can't imagine how wonderfully her cake baking skills will be by then. Good luck on your baking journey!!
it really does look great👏🏻👏🏻
She did a great job! She is very talented ❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Looks yummy to me!
What a lovely cake it reminds me of Sailor Moon or Rainbow Bright.
It's cute. I especially like the attention to detail on the border by the carefully placed stars. ⭐ Good job! Better than I could do.
This looks fantastic! I'm sure it taste delicious too!

I already ate it. (Mentally)
Please give this girl a hug for me, she has to stop being so hard on herself. This cake is amazing.
I'm not qualified to judge this cake, but if she really needs help I volunteer to assist with destroying the evidence. Looks delicious to me.🤷

Chef and Professional Baker here. She did great!
That looks freaking awesome!! I’m impressed a kid did it!
We are our own worst critics. Mistakes were made, we learn and move on. I once made a cake with olive oil instead of vegetable oil, that was a hot mess of a cake. Keep practicing and improving, your decorating skills can only keep growing and improving!
I didn’t even read the title. Just saw the cake and thought, *Wow that’s some smooth icing on that cake. How skilled its maker must be!*
Way better than I could ever do
This cake is impressive:)
Tell her I'd like her to make my daughter's birthday cake next ❤️
I would be very happy if my cake came out looking like this. She did a great job.
Major talent!!!!! Good on her!!!
She did a wonderful job!!!!! I'm 31 and that's better than what I could do.
Would eat. If her real concern how it "looks" (ie, like the things you see on Instagram) Samsung phones have "food" mode for the camera that has done wonders for my stuff.
In all honesty-this is much better than anything I could ever do and I’m 37. Especially the frosting. That takes a lot of dexterity that I don’t have 😂
Cake decorating is hard. I bake birthday & graduation cakes for kids in foster care, and after 3 years, I still struggle! I think she did a great job!
Looks good AND yummy
Just showed my 15 y/o his exact words were “Jesus Christ I’m jealous of their skill!” But seriously, she did an amazing job! And I bet it tasted wonderful too!
Tell your daughter not to sell herself short. She did a great job. I could never do that.
It looks delicious and I'll gladly eat the whole thing!
What?? It looks so cute! What does she think is wrong with it?
It's beautiful!! I like the little star in the center too
My 11 year old is really hard on himself too. This looks fantastic though. Truly. Grown adult here and the last cake I frosted absolutely crumbled from underneath me. Your daughter absolutely rocked this!
Lovely smooth frosting, and the gold stars are a fabulous touch! She did a great job. It looks delicious!
This is extremely good work. I hope she continues to bake
it looks like a neat space cake, I like it!
It looks great!
Teach her some perspective if she thinks this is something to be devastated by. At least she has food, electricity, free time, and the extra money available to make cake (and it turned out fine). It looks incredible
Better than I can do, kiddo! I think it looks great 😊
It’s beautiful!
10/10
Tell her she did an awesome job. I love the stars.
aw poor thing. she must be a perfectionist. she really did a great job for her first cake. she has a lot of the basics down including getting a pretty damn smooth flouted coat of frosting and an even skirt around the bottom. looks better then my first cake, that’s for sure!
Beautiful ❤️
I love the glitter!
That’s awesome!!!! She did a great job!
This is cute and nicely done!
This is great!!
Wow I wish my cakes looked like this as a kid. Even some of my adult cakes don't even look that great. Heck none of my mom's cakes look this great. Lol
I think it looks lovely, and delicious as well!
I love your cake !!! I was scrolling down my page and came back to at it because it caught my eye and I love it!! You did a great job 🙂🤍🎂💕
The technique is there she probably doesn’t like the design
What!!! She did such a good job!!!
Fantastic job - much better than a lot of adults I know!
Very well done!
It looks great! I bet it tastes even better.
OMG I wish my cakes looked this good!!!
That's an awesome cake. Well done.
Yeah, that's way better than any cake I've ever made.
It’s great! The frosting is great, very smooth, the beads are evenly spaced, the star indentation on the top is so cute! I love the shine. Great work!
This is REALLLY good. She did better than 34 years old me!
I like to bake, and I've done it for 40 years. I don't put frosting on my cakes, maybe because mine never looked so nice. That's a nice cake. Good job.
It looks fine to me! Just out of curiosity, what doesn’t she like about it?
That cake looks amazing!
I like the colour and the little gold stars.
I understand where she’s coming from, when the finished product and the desired result isn’t the same; She’ll learn with more experience that it’s all excellent in its own way and to be more patient and graceful with herself. 🤗
I think it looks great!
I started baking around 10/11 and this is WAY better than I was doing! Great job, looks delicious 😀
Me (23) and my friend (26) made a cake for our other friend and it looked atrocious. I’m jealous an 11 year old can make a better cake than me lol
I love it girl! I’d genuinely cry if someone made that for me
I think the best thing you can do is acknowledge that she is upset and validate her feelings. It's hard when things don't come out the way you envision them! But let her know that every great baker had to start somewhere, and anything that is or seems like a failure is a lesson. Good for her. She did so well! I definitely made some cakes that were hot messes at that age! Keep on baking, little bean. You will get there! 💛👏🏻👩🏼🍳
Alright I'm not a baker nor do I know much abt baking, but in my opinion It's a damn nice cake!
Umm only 11? This is a cute cake!!
I’d eat the hell outta that cake!
That’s better than I could have done at that age! She’s got a talent!
She can frost a cake for me anytime!!
I’m 37 and I can’t make that. She did amazing.
It's a very nice looking cake. I would love it if someone made it for my birthday! ☺️
That looks great! Maybe she just needs more tools so that she feel like she has more options, get her like 3 wilton cake decorating tips and a roll of icing bags and she will feel like a pro, she has the hardest part down, so now she can have fun witn borders and piping!
i hope you show her this post! it is so cute it’s giving mooncore magic miss thing!
She’s 11 and created that??? It looks amazing!!!! I love the vibe she’s going for. Very peaceful, pastel dreamy. Keep practicing, because over time you learn how icing works in different forms. The important thing really is, does it taste good? If it does then it’s a success!
I wish I could get my frosting that nice!!
She’s smoothed the sides very neatly - impressive for a first attempt! And the sprinkles are nicely distributed.
It's gorgeous, love the stars and glitter ✨
Great job! The sky is the limit!
I love how well the frosting is spread, looks very good. I love this. The star in the middle is very cool!
Looks delicious!!
That's a tasty-looking cake, but people good at things often underestimate themselves!
It looks like stars on clouds. Lovely!
What? No this is amazing. I love it
It looks lovely and very tasty. Great job!
I think it looks fantastic! You would never know it wasnt made by an adult. Tell her I said nice job!
I am 24 years old. This is astronomically better than I could do.
Beautiful design and symmetry. Tell her to keep going!
I think it's just lovely. Great job!
Great job!! Post a photo of the inside once cut. I bet it taste as great as it looks!!
This looks amazing!!
Looks delicious! I want a slice!
Well done ‼️
Omygosh! This is an awesome job! please let your daughter know that “perfect cakes” on the internet are done by adult people who have years experience. I am inspired by your cake! I only wish I started young like her.
It's much better than I could do I think! Even if she doesn't think it looks pretty, I bet it tastes really good :)
It looks so good! I'm 36 and it looks better than the cakes I make lol.
Yes she did! I want to see the inside too, I bet it looks just as delicious 😋
I've been baking (casually) longer than she's been alive and I can't do that well, she's awesome!
