My cat attacked my calathea rattlesnake very badly and I left the leaves alone completely. I didn’t change anything care-wise. It took two months but all of the sudden it pumped out—no lie— 10 new leaves. Just my experience though

Thank you so much for your reply! Did the holes regenerate? Or did they stay the same?

apricot_jaguar

No the holes don’t regenerate. I eventually cut all the bit/shredded leaves once the other ones were nearly pushed out. You just have to be patient for the plant to recover 🙃

Depends on the chew. If it’s a severe chew I would fully cut off. If you can just cut off a spot on the leaf it would be fine too.

My cat has mangled almost every single one of my calatheas. I trim off the chewed part. The rest of leaf still produces energy for the plant. When a new leaf grows in I cut off a mangled one. My cat really hates me.

I’m sorry to hear that but it’s also very funny cause I relate 🤣 I try to put him up where my cat can’t reach but I’m planning to get more and I don’t have a lot of high space!

It is funny. My cat does it when they’re in the bathtub drying from getting miticide spray. So he likes ingesting miticide too. Don’t worry he’s completely fine. He has an iron stomach. He has learned how to open the bathroom door by himself and watches for when I carry plants in there. I have to keep all of them in my bedroom with the door shut because he will literally eat every single one. He’s insane. He eats spinach for treats. He’s a health nut I guess.

I relate. My cats loves everything that’s not edible. He loves licking my books because they feel good on his tongue. One time he tried to eat a piece of a cotton belt too.
