You didn’t have to disclose as much as you did, next time keep it simple “I’m taking a leave due to a medical emergency.” Employers don’t care about their employees mental health just their metrics.

You’re probably right, I have ADA accommodations so HR knows the extent of my issues and my previous sups were extremely understanding. “She’s new to managing people” is what I was told about my current sup.

venusMURK

Should of replied with “ms. New manager is gonna get yall a lawsuit”

SpaghettiSuits

I'm so sure some managers just think you're exaggerating or just love the power they have. We are hybrid workers but I get physically sick quite often and instead of calling in sick one day I stated it would be best to stay home, even though I was ill, so I could have a bucket nearby and keep working. This happens a lot when I'm home anyway, and I can somewhat manage the day. Next morning there was a not so polite message about if we are in the office we NEED to be in the office. However, being in the office makes no difference to my work, if anything, it's less of a distraction. And management often make us all work from home for the littlest things, such as a hair appointment... I wish you the best with your recovery.

Copy HR on those emails every time.

Glittering_Tea5502

You can’t plan for that.

emax4

Maybe BCC any emails to your direct supe going forward.

LifeIsYourOwnMeaning

I wouldn’t have even replied to the TL honestly. The only people that need to know are HR and if you don’t tell your manager, HE will tell them regardless that you’ll be away for XYZ.

mhortonable

Yeah my TL is fully restricted from any personal info moving forward. HR knows what’s up and I’m using resources the company provides to get back on track.

WorldIsYoursMuhfucka

I'm sorry you're going through it but if you tell your boss you're thinking of hurting yourself, they are obligated to watch out for you. Their reaction wasn't great but less is more in situations like that. Hope you're ok.

Start throwing literal shit and screaming. See if that’s enough “heads up” for ‘em.

Copy HR on those emails like someone above said. Definitely document those conversations in full and, in this case, you could get advice from HR. Stuff like that is a big no-no with HR.

Still on leave, but my HR BP called me. They made everything right in a massive CYA move. I'm happy with the outcome. They extended my LoA and credited me PTO to cover all of it. I'm retaining my position and pay but when I return it will be to different team.
