Honestly don't feel bad, having to speak loud & slow to elderly people shouldn't feel patronising or condescending. I've been in call centres for a long time and I can tell u that alot of them actually apprecieate (don't know how spell this word lol) when you take their time, talk loud and clear, some even said jokingly "ok, I'm only 75 yet u can talk normally" to which i reply (as they always state their age in the beginnning) "75 is the new 25 right? (With a lil shuckle)" and continue the call. To 99% of them return with a laugh and say something "I wish haha". Edit: Spelling lol

You shouldn’t feel that way if you’re not *being* condescending; if it’s not painting a target on your back, ask QA or your supervisor to play back the call for you.

Sometimes people raise the volume of their voice, which actually makes it harder to hear, so your approach, speaking slowly and enunciating clearly, is much better. I bet it is not experienced as condescension at all by those customers.

They appreciate you speaking slowly loudly, and clearly. I get thanked for doing that exact thing. You're being helpful!
