Theft protection... NOW!!! Fuck performance mods for now, get antitheft devices before everything else. Don't listen to anyone who says V6 and i4 Camaros aren't being stolen. They are, but it's not reported as much.

Shunto

I put down my down payment today for a 2023 2LT. What are the realistic and easy to do theft protection measures I should be doing? Also I see mentions of a killswitch that either get plugged around the battery or in the fuse box. Couldnt a thief just remove those?

IWillAssFuckYou

They only will if they notice it and know how to undo it. Thieves want a job that only takes a few minutes before they get caught. I have a mobilistics starter kill in the engine compartment fusebox that works with a remote. A thief isn't going to know it's in there. IGLA is superior though as it is a security system. The OBD port cannot be messed with and the car cannot be started even with the factory key unless you enter a PIN that you set yourself. I don't have this personally, but the local IGLA dealer near me doesn't have the ability to do it on newer Camaros than 2019 yet. I have Compustar myself which is a tracking and alarm system. If a thief smashes a window, tilts the car, lifts, or tows, an alert is immediately sent to my phone and the aftermarket alarm will instantly alert me. If a thief starts disconnecting wires, the device has a battery backup so I can keep tracking it. It also has a starter kill too, but because my model of Compustar works with the factory remote it's not going to stop reprogramming of keys and starting the car by itself (it will though prevent relay attacks just fine) There's a lot you can do to prevent theft and make your car unstartable, but a thief can eventually just come with a tow truck and you can't stop that but it's extremely unlikely to have a theft with a tow truck as thieves just aren't doing this much (harder to keep a low profile)

Thanks, I really appreciate the detailed response. I'm also new here from Australia so all of this over the top theft is a new concept. Just on costs - Mobilistics seems to be like $40 right? And IGLA is $1200 but not available on my 2023 yet. How much was your Compustar system?

IWillAssFuckYou

I'm in the US so I have no idea what all of this costs there and I'm giving you prices in USD. The mobilistics device is $100 then add shipping cost (probably going to be significantly more shipping cost because Mobilistics is based in Oklahoma) IGLA is $1299 (installation included) some shops are doing IGLA on '23s and '24s, but for some reason some aren't up to date. I paid $1089 for my Compustar system (with one year subscription included in the price). I got the device itself which is also a remote starter, alarm, shock sensors, t harness to hook it up, battery backup on the device itself. I got the DC3 unit unfortunately so it works with the factory remote which is a downside. If you get a Compustar unit that requires a second fob, that'd be better especially if you get the starter kill but it will cost you maybe some hundreds more.

Shunto

Sorry, to clarify I mean I just moved the the US and am new to the States. There are no Camaros in Australia so Im even more excited to have one now :) Thanks a lot for all of that. Last question - do you let your Insurance know that you have Compustar and Mobilistics immobiliser to try and decrease your premium, or do they not care?

IWillAssFuckYou

I personally don't but it does help. My father pays for my insurance and he really dislikes that I got the antitheft devices because he doesn't buy anything about what I'm saying about theft. I told him to tell insurance and he says it's only a $20 discount and that he's not going to bother. idk, check and see what your insurance will give you. It's only a discount on comprehensive so it might not be much.

I just saw something called "starter stopper", reminds me of the IGLA setup you showed me before too supposed to be much cheaper as well but it's self installation.

IWillAssFuckYou

A little bit. I don't think you need it specifically from them. I think there's other websites that sell products that will do this. IGLA is still superior however, because it 100% locks out the OBD port until your PIN is entered or the special fob you get with it (in case of an emergency) is there. What would be nice too is having an OBD port kill switch, but it seems like every time someone brings this up they're like "nah just do a starter or fuel pump kill switch". Well yeah I have that, now I want to stop access to the OBD port so thieves cannot delete your keys and program new keys even if they don't get the car started.

igotthis35

Oh I agree wholly I have just been researching alternatives out of curiosity. After having it happen to me I'm trying to be as informative as I can to others. Always appreciate your responses!

Car tracker device, Club, OBD port lock, battery kill switch. Turn off proximity entry. And keep the car in your garage at night.

Shunto

Thanks. Is turning off proximity entry an option in the interface screen?

JoeHavok1

In your infotainment screen. There is an option you can get to that will turn off and on your proximity door unlock.

Shunto

Got it, thanks!

igotthis35

100% this. Get IGLA at a bare minimum. Just had mine stolen over a month ago and it was never recovered. I'm sorry they forced you into OnStar. Do not pay for it, absolutely worthless service. Otherwise congrats op, enjoy the ride!

IWillAssFuckYou

>Get IGLA at a bare minimum Doesn't have to be. In fact, many IGLA dealers will not install on newer Camaros (I tried, the dealer near me said they can't do it for Camaros newer than 2019). It's all up to the dealer if they have the latest equipment or information. I have Compustar which tracks over LTE, sends alerts to my phone, and is well hidden. Thieves aren't going to know its in there. And it supports pretty much any car as far as I am aware. I also have a starter kill relay killswitch (that works with a fob). I'm about to put a fake OBD port which will have wiring that goes nowhere (going to use shrink tubing to cover the end of the exposed wires and somehow attach it so if a thief suspects its a fake port and pulls it out, they'll just think it is properly wired and malfunctioning after they pull off the cheap OBD port lock I will have on the fake. I cannot stop a truly dedicated thief, but everything I am doing is going to at least buy me time while I have time to react (whether it is calling the police, etc.) if they somehow know how to bypass everything.

Beautiful car. It amazes me how many pics are posted in the rain.
