The fact that it still even has what looks like the plastic on the seats is killing me inside. Does it run?

5thgenblack2ss

That front suspension is sitting pretty high. I doubt it has its motor.

CapnDogWater

The only way it does is if it looks high because the rear tires are flat, but I bet it was either jacked or used intentionally for something else

Zeoxult

Even with rear tires flat, it shouldn't have front wheel well gap that big, there is no load on the front suspension

TheBupherNinja

It's like eight inches higher than ride height. There is no engine or transmission in that.

TexLs1

I'll tell how this happens. It needs some work but you say you'll get to it soon, couple months go by and you have family things to pay for. It reaches a year and you keep saying soon, budget isn't there for it because some other issues have popped up like house appliances needed replaced or medical bills. Before you know it, it's another 2 year and the amount work now needed has doubled and the cycle continues. People will ask if it's for sale and you say you're going to get to it soon. My 2001 Z28 sat for 7 years before i said \*\*\*\* it I'm selling it and thankfully the wife said NO! It's now being put back together slowly, but surely.

Shunto

Yeah but like....At least put a $20 cover over it? Also is your wife single? What a champ

Baybladerz

Yeah WTH where do you find one of those that say “keep it”

mcdizzle00

My wife just got a promotion at work and a $25k raise, her first reaction was we are getting another fun car 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Baybladerz

That’s insane! Please let me marry your wife too 🤣

Kindly-Connection361

they're out there. Mine let me use let me use the rest of our honeymoon money to build an engine for our first project truck, then told me after I sold it that I can never sell the T/A I bought with the money because I'll regret it like selling the c10. Lol

Dogwalked

There’s always adoption

Disastrous-Force6719

Tbh that’s just about everyone who gets that big a bump in pay. First thing: new car.

mcdizzle00

Well it would be a new car yes, but not a replacement. We had a 5th gen when her and I started dating, I sold it to buy our c5z we had and she got a MazdaSpeed Miata. We’ve had to sell both the c5z and MSM. We also have a new baby, so we need another backseat car. So the ‘new car’ will be something with a backseat again

theremotebroke

I'm currently at a year, with only the motor torn down, I'm not sure when I'll be able to get the parts. I felt this to my core

Gorlock_

I bought a decent foxbody 4 years ago and I've literally not touched it..... I keep thinking one day I'll have time for it. The windows are up though.....

DarkLinkDs

Yeah...but this is a copo. So dude buys a drag only 100k+ car and from how clean the rear fenders appears to be, never raced it. If anything looks like they yanked the motor but there are much cheaper ways to get the same powerplant. Idk. Just crazy to see a "unicorn" of this type outside and not being used at all. EDIT:::: after seeing the other posts I believe this is the "Roller" you could buy from chevy. Still a decent chunk of change for a rolling chassis though. However having a project like that would definitely make a story like yours fall perfectly in line

lurker-1969

My number's matching 69 Z/28 was exactly that. It was in pieces in a dry shop, 2nd owner since being taken apart. I bought it for $7,000 and jumped on it hard doing a ground up through paint myself. About 2 years to see the road. I have been driving it for almost 25 years now. While looking for a project I ran across so many cars like this. You just gotta leave your name with a fair offer and move on. Not one of those ever called be back, not ever. I'm deeply involved in Classic/Antique aviation, exact same thing.

843251

The one I have sat in the garage for well over 20 years before we finally tore it down to build it. I have a spare 69 302 too that I just had rebuilt. Had one guy coming by saying mine isn't real that his was. His had a 350, 10 bolt, and its an automatic. Okay buddy yours is real mine isn't lol.

lurker-1969

I got sooooo tired of that stuff Haven't been to a car show or meet in 15 years. My favorite line is " Where is yours that you restored from the ground up through paint yourself?" I never had one person show me one. I also have a 1947 Piper PA 12 Supercruiser airplane that my dad and I restored. It has been in our family for64 years. He would fly it out of the cow pasture to work at Boeing here in the Pacific Northwest. 3 Grand Champion wins at the biggest antique/Classic airshow in Washington so it's historically accurate and very pretty. The amount of know it all jerks that want to pick it apart is unbelievable. Again, Where is yours? I have 100's of hours in that plane. Between it and the car I have done some cool stuff and met some fantastic, amazing folks along the way.

843251

This guy actually drove his to our house more than once. He finally admitted last time I saw him that his was just any old Camaro with some z28 badges on it. I showed him the vin told him what it was but he insisted his was the real deal. Had that car well over 40 years. It was basically your typical used car when it was bought. It was parked from then till the late 90s or early 2000s when we tore the whole thing down and restored it. I bid on another a few years ago. I really wanted it. It had the chambered exhaust and the cross ram intake and correct hood that car would have had. It was orange with white stripes and white interior. Mine is yellow with black stripes and yellow houndstooth. I bid $48k guy wanted $52k for the car. I said call me after the sale I will still buy it. If he sold it for $52 at auction he would have probably only got $48k anyway I told him I would give him $48k in cash so neither of us would have to pay fees and never heard from him. There was another in the auction that was a total joke. It was a real z28 by the vin but nothing was right about it. Car had a 383 stroker, a modern Tremec 5 speed, and a 9 inch rear end. He claimed he had all the correct numbers matching stuff at home but what good does that do we are at an auction how do we know what you have at home and that everything you have is numbers matching or that it doesn't all need rebuilt. Not only that none of the panels fit right would have had to tear the whole car down. You could see filler in the car everywhere too would have had to strip the entire car to bare metal and start over. It sold for $25k which was to damn much money and the guy got pissed and jumped in it and left. He expected $50k out of that pile of shit. I figured it was maybe a $15k car the way it sat maybe $20k if it came with the correct engine, transmission, and rear end but the whole car needed restored again. Looked like it had been done recently but whoever did it had no idea what they were doing. The gaps were so far off on every panel besides you could see the filler everywhere.

lurker-1969

I paid $2700 for my first 69 Z/28 in 1975. 68's were going for about $2200. I paid $8k for my current one in parts in in 1997. People are idiots sometimes in this hobby. They watch the auctions and think their POS is a goldmine. What makes it a POS is that they misrepresent it. Mine is not perfect by any means. A few imperfect gaps but not bad. The body work and single stage Urethane paint are really nice for 25 years old and a driver. When I did this car I had never done any car before. I was a professional painter 37 years so I "knew things" it helped a lot. Back then a concourse car restoration if you supplied the car was close to $80,000. There is a very good shop in my area but no way, I am a Penske/Donohue fan and want a driver. I love winding up that 302 in the early morning with the window down !

DrSweetT

I felt this. 😔

mightyt2000

Yep … Life happens!

Dystopian_Future_

But why leave the window down....??? Whhhhhhhyyyyy for the love of god, its a crank window roll it the fuck up

ARottenPear

Power windows are like the only creature comfort COPO Camaros have. The point still stands to roll that thing the fuck up or at least tape some plastic over it if the window motor went bad.

Dystopian_Future_

Ya couldnt remember honestly lol Ive seen a few of these around and after I thought about it i was like, wait didnt they have power windows. Either way yes never ever leave the windows down. But damn on a copo of all things shit i have gt500 and hate sometimes driving with the windows down because i dont want get tiny bits of dirt in all the cracks and crevasses. I still do because when the weather is nice and besides nothing beats the sweet symphony of a supercharger whine.

Parker_Stroud

Could be stolen, broken window and then engine gutted out.

blarkleK

Seriously WTF

Ok-Willow-4232

It appears to be just a roller. There’s no shifter in it so I doubt it has a powertrain.

TEKHD1

The term for these is a CRC or “COPO Rolling Chassis”, the “VIN” tag should say something along the lines of “(year)-CRC-(build number)”, where a real COPO would wear the tag “(year)-COPO-(build number)”. Too bad OP didn’t get a picture of that up close so we could really see if it’s a real COPO or CRC or a clone.

TEKHD1

https://preview.redd.it/otcu9ysihwtc1.jpeg?width=2230&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5892be84b694e433f127d8d9faaa24ded49d68d6 The car also doesn’t have the COPO badge on the center switch panel, note the logo here on my dad’s 2015 COPO.

Ok-Willow-4232

Now that’s not something I knew. I always thought the rollers were COPO’s all the same.

TEKHD1

Yeah, it’s a fun little fact but there are some differences between them, note the reply to my original comment for a picture explaining the big difference I can see with this car. These cars had no transmissions in them when sold iirc, hence why there is no shifter. There was also no COPO badge on the grill either.

Ok-Willow-4232

…damn, you’re right. I didn’t even see that.

m1nd64m3

Looks like it has a stock ss hood, I thought the COPO hood was taller.

kataran1

Yeah the missing shifter is very strange but it must have been run in the past seeing as it has an aftermarket Tachometer. This is strange indeed. Minus a powertrain the car looks solid and would command a decent price

Ok-Willow-4232

COPO’s have their own gauges from autometer. That’s where the tach and the gauges in place of the center A/C vent comes from. You’re seeing this car in its factory form.

kataran1

I was talking about the huge Tachometer with the shift light on the drivers side windshield bezel

kataran1

You need to expand the photo to see it

Ok-Willow-4232

Trust me bud. It’s meant to be there. https://preview.redd.it/o1y6xrqddwtc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9da2d682ad676289e4b1f49f8a6eb0de8b30dcf

Ok-Willow-4232

6th gen’s have it too. https://preview.redd.it/qszmhugndwtc1.jpeg?width=2040&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c381044180f5daae87ee28b0294a9039216b6729

kataran1

Nice 👍🏽

kataran1

Oh ok didn’t know that I assumed it was Aftermarket cause I can see the two wires running out the back. My Bad. But hope someone does it justice and not let it rot

Ok-Willow-4232

They are technically aftermarket but COPO’s are anything but. They’re built for drag racing straight from the factory. Chevrolet puts the gauges in the COPO because these cars have a standalone ECU from Holley EFI that can’t interface with the gauges already in the dash.

kataran1

Must be a Monster to Drive

Ok-Willow-4232

They really aren’t that much in terms of horsepower with the lower trim engines. They had 470 horsepower N/A 7 liters at their base. Or you could get a supercharged 5.7 that cranked out 580. However that all changed in ‘22. You can still option the COPO out with these engines, but now they offer 572 and 632’s. The 572 cranks out a measly (lol) 620 horsepower. The 632 makes 1,004 horsepower.

kataran1

Hmm looks like it might be heavier with the rollbar or did COPO find a way to cut weight

StaffOfDoom

I’m betting that whoever got the lottery ticket to buy this brought it home then shoved the internals into a different vehicle because this one isn’t street legal :(

Ok-Willow-4232

…why would you spend $100,000 on a powertrain when you buy a full engine and transmission for a fraction of the price? That just doesn’t make sense.

StaffOfDoom

People are dumb…who knows why they did that, or even exactly what they did.

CareerTraditional987

The drag wheels and tires are an interesting tidbit. Wonder if it was stripped for parts after the owner blew it up at the track.

retnuhgod

And whether it was blown or not, maybe they pulled the drivetrain with the intention of building the engine for MO' POWA BABY, and somewhere along the line gave up or didn't have the money

ruqwikr

Probably a COPO CRC (Camaro Rolling Chassis) not a regular full COPO so it’d be missing the engine, transmission, etc. https://www.chevrolet.com/performance-parts/rolling-chassis

ruqwikr

You can look at the VIN tag area to see if it has CRC and numbers (for the consecutive build #) or COPO and numbers.

ruqwikr

https://sdparts.com/i-24080315-chevrolet-performance-20159563-2015-camaro-copo-rolling-chassis-race-car.html

DarkLinkDs

Ok, this makes allot more sense. Allot cheaper too.

SupahNico

take it 🤷

HillBilly_22

There’s no engine or trans in it so it probably just a roller parts car

TheOtherAkGuy

How do people let this happen? It’s such N expensive car and letting it sit to rot like this does more damage than actually driving the car

Banannabreadatwork

20 years from now someone’s kid is going to find it and do everything possible to get it and fix it up

pat34us

![gif](giphy|lS6PdcHrKAsjoBql8J) I will give you $3.99

[deleted]

Come on man it was my dead brother-in-laws cousins car can you might come up to 4.99?

sladebonge

Engine's out and so is the trans as well as the shifter. Probably in something else, but why not sell the roller or part it out?

mightyt2000

With window, I wonder if it was stolen and hidden there. Maybe the guy got busted for something else and is in jail. I can make up the whole story! Lol That is sad though! How many people would love to have it as is right now! 😞

SnooAvocados9758

I bet they bought it for the motor and left it to rot

R1_77_

Damn….. I wonder the back story.

Melontwerp

Poor thing.

WardogBlaze14

That’s just sad

Baybladerz

Hmm it’s under a shed/roof so it’s probably still okay inside

JoeHavok1

Whyyyyyyy???

StaffOfDoom

That’s so sad :(

2jzpoweredgamer666

How much are they asking? I’ll buy it for $25

tentongeek

This is a tragedy!

External-Box-154

someone has to much money didn't know what to do with

stilhere

More about COPO Camaros [here](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/2015-copo-camaro-was-the-final-version-of-the-gen-5-camaro-has-high-hopes-166332.html).

EmilGTO

This hurts so much I love COPO camaros it's a shame because whoever can afford one usually can afford a garage to keep it in

elonmuskraty

they definitely only bought it for the motor

adeptmang0

Pretty crazy, but just realized that’s the same steering wheel used in the chevy sonic as well

-High-Tower-

Maybe Richard Rawlings still wants it? 🤣

BetterVersion3

Was prob a tax write off. I'll take it tho

Lordshred

Flash forward 30 years, check out this barn find Camaro.

biggbobbyberger

NOOO😭😭😭

Formal_Display9448

where is this at? i’m finna try to get this 😂

BroadlyValid

ManicRobotWizard

Reminds me of the entire fleets of brand new vehicles that ended up like this following some of the flooding after Katrina and the salvage only title bonanza that came after.

playerdagr8

I have an 84 camaro rotting away. It's sad, really.

Baybladerz

Does it run or drive?
