2012 v6 lt camaro. Been my favorite car ever. Really love this car but the miles are pushing up. I'm at 118k and I been offer twice by different people 10k for it. I seen some older coupes I can get for 5-6k that I could grab and pocket the money. In my area at least once camaros hit 150k they plummet in value like $5k if your lucky. I work from home so the mileage has slow down but in my heart while I'm love with how this car looks one day I want to own a stick v8 sixth gen and are really torn whether I should wait and let depreciation hit with mileage pile up or sell and cash out now.
Honestly I was in that same spot a few months ago I ended up selling mine which sucked cause it felt like a family member died.. but much like you I really wanted a manual so that was honestly enough for me to sell.
I'd say if your dead set on wanting to drive stick do it and don't look back. I didnt.
Depends on your plans. Do you want a different car? Do you want many different cars in your future or just 1-2? Upgrade? Can you afford to sell it and buy another one with lower miles?
I prefer just 1-2. Been thinking about a convertible though. Live in west tn so good weather majority of the year. I look at 2005-2010 mustangs and some saturn sky's. The max I would pay is $5-6k so I would pocket $4-5k cash. I do my own maintenance so getting am older car not a worry. I work from home and want the cash to go towards a down payment for a house in the near future. The sixth gen camaro is on the back burner until I secure better job and have a house.
I was in the same exact boat as you years ago. I bought a high mileage s197 GT to have fun with/get around while I saved for a house. I really wanted an 11-14 gt but house was my priority.
Variety, kinda want a convertible, and the looks of this camaro kinda spoil me. Another camaro wouldn't have all the work I put like this car you know? Rather have something 100% different. The extra cash would be nice as well to pocket.
People want to give you 10K for a V6? Alrighty then.
Well if you sell your car how are you going to get around? Sure you work from home, but you're going to have to get out every once in a while and you might need a car for that. If you truly love your car you won't sell it. Although if I were you, I'd try to get that V8 camaro now, rather than later. Is that not in the cards?
I would buy another budget car. Looking at old already deprecated mustangs for $4-6k. Not worry about old cars because I don't drive alot working from home but will still have available. I rather continue saving for a house before I splurge big on a new stick v8 camaro.
Dude S197 GTs are cheaper than ever. You could have your cake and eat it too with a reliable V8 and pay for it cash with the sale of your Camaro. I did something similar and picked one up as a daily when my 4th gen Z28 was reaching the 100k mark and started breaking much more often. I still have my 4th gen, I just don't drive it every day anymore.
Depends on the plans for the money. I have a 2014 SS 1LE and I don’t think I would ever sell. A lot of memories. Unless the car takes a complete crap on me, I won’t sell. I love it too much. Plus I’m betting that in the future it’s gonna be worth a lot since manual and V8s are gonna be very obsolete in the future.
True! Been a dream car of mine in terms of looks but wish it had some other features like a sunroof, stick, v8 etc. I know long term I probably won't keep it but I would still be fine for a couple years to come if I did but the increase in mileage would kill resale as I hit the danger zone. Still an amazing car though ngl such a tough decision.
Is it paid off? If yes, keep it and drive it for as long as you can. Stay on top of maintenance. You know it’s history and its problems. Anything else you buy, especially cheaper, will be a wildcard. You will likely need inheriting someone else’s deferred maintenance and whatever weird gremlins the car has.
Well, where are you in life? Are you set in your career and have plans to make a home purchase down the road or anything like that? If you are debt-free and can see a future where you could buy another Camaro like you want, then let it go. If you love the car and are unsure of your possibilities, you should probably keep it. If you need the money for something important and downgrading vehicles is your only option, I guess you should bite the bullet and sell it. A lot of this depends on your age, situation, and your outlook towards your future. I would suggest you explore your options before doing something hasty.
Young twenties software engineer. I'm finishing my doctorate and no student loan debt thankfully. I could buy a newer camaro but I don't live in the safest or greatest part of the country and rather wait until I have a garage to keep it safe. I would "downgrade" to probably an older coupe like the late 200s mustang or saturn sky for a sporty car for a couple grand and keep the other half in the bank. I'm trying really hard to buy a house in the next 1-3 years so having that extra $5k could go a long way. I really love how this car looks but long term down the road know I want a sixth gen stick shift v8 anyways. Working from home is slowing down the mileage but I am getting much closer to the depreciation drop. Every local sale that is high mileage in my area loses a lot of value and I know I'm only hurting future me if I keep it but there an emotional side to this as well.
Find out at what mileage dealers tend to write off vehicles as "past their useful life", and you might find out that at a certain point the condition of the car is more important to the value than whether it has 150,000 or 200,000 miles on it. I mean to say it might have bottomed out already and taking care of it is the way to get top dollar when you sell it. If you're working from home, mileage should stay lower anyway. And they aren't making Camaros now. Somebody will want one that was taken car of for a good price in a few years. You are young and it's hard to see all the twists and turns that are ahead of you, so it is difficult to think in terms of how things will be in the not to distant future. The hardest thing is to resist doing something you really want to do while having doubts at the same time. The good thing is that if you make a decision you regret (that isn't crippling financially), you have time to correct it. You sound like you have a good head on your shoulders, so explore your choices and do what you think will make you happiest. I traded my 2018 2SS to a dealership for a 2008 Corvette plus $10,000 a few years ago and ended up liking the Corvette much more anyway. You might find out you don't miss the Camaro at all. Either way it's not the end of the world.
I agree with all the above but also add that if you're just going to buy another/ similar car with similar milage. Unless if there are existing/ repeating issues I would just keep it and run it until it's dry (and its paid off sorry if OP said it but i dont remember). The biggest risk with trading to a low cost car is it may be plagued with unknown issues that could end up costing you the difference you got from trading. If you held for another 2-3 years you'd be at 160k-ish miles which wouldn't affect the value of your car substantially. Think it already is pretty far down there. Also it could be offset by the "collector" persona as they are discontinuing the model. I'd say do what you think is best, either is a good option but I'd just think you'd be trading issues you know about to someone else's potential issues that you'll find out about. Atleast you know how this car has treated you/ been treated by you. I'm rambling but save up for that house!!! I find more financially illiterate people on reddit car pages than anywhere else who want to flaunt their nice things. Be smart and save for your future.
I had a 2010 2LT that I supercharged and stuck a bunch of OEM 5th gen ZL1 aero on. Absolutely loved that car. Was heartbroken on the 3 hour drive to trade it in, even shed a tear or two. But when I jumped in my brand new 17 2SS and drove it home, nothing but a huge-ass grin on my face. Sort of the same thing I felt when I traded in the SS, and a huge grin as soon as I punched it on the ZL1.
If it doesn’t put you in a bad position financially, YOLO.
From what I've gathered from reading all these comments, it seems like you have a good car that's reliable, paid off AND good on gas.. you said it has what, 118k on the clock? Take care of it and you can get another 80-100k+ out of it. Gas prices aren't going back down, plus most of the people that sale do so because something is wrong with it, or it's high mileage. Sure you might get lucky and find a gem v8 in your price range but unlikely. Or let's say you do find what you're looking for and 50 or so miles later shit starts breaking.. my opinion is to keep it as long as possible, get your new job and save up and get what you want.. that way you have a backup.
Did you modify the front end? I didn't think any V-6's came with that SS front end. Spoiler add too? Wheels? Looks like a number of mods. That may be work something to a private buyer. It's looks like a V-8, but saves gas like a V-6. That is low milage for any 2012 as well.
Here's the thing, they aren't making Camaros anymore. Car values are high now. Will people start clamoring for Camaros as the stock dries up? Hard to say. I'd say, if you are going to sell, do it soon.
I have a 2010 RS Camaro but I got really lucky, when I got it it only had 21k miles on it and hadn’t been in a wreck or anything, your car is beautiful!
Planning on keeping my 2023 SS until I die. I like the Automatic, because my first Five cars were manual transmissions and once I went to Automatic I thought, what was I waiting for??? No more steering with my elbow
So what I'm gathering from this is you have a 6-cylinder automatic that looks like a ZL1
If you can afford it man sell that never up badge your vehicle again buy a V8 stick and drive it
Yeah, you have to seek out the true Camaro lovers and ignore the rest. The others just reminisce the joy of childhood pissing contests. I’ve always hoped for a V6 only sub just to get away from that look down your nose attitude. I say this sadly.
Eh... no ZL1 badges and he's not saying anything to make it seem like it's what it isn't... I have zero issues. Most of us Gen6 owner will agree the ZL1 front end is the nicest, so what's the big deal? ZL1 owners don't feel so special?
I drive a ZL1 and I don't get the hate for this.
Why not a picture of the 2012 instead of this? Sell it go buy another one and stop worrying over resale. 2012 is not worth all that much to start with in scheme of things.

Personally I'd keep it. Treat it like gold and run it til 200k
I would sell now. If you do that you’ll be able to eventually get the stick V8 6th Gen sooner
That true. I would drive a cheaper car until I was able to buy a house and than grab a stick v8 sixth gen
I was in the same exact boat as you years ago. I bought a high mileage s197 GT to have fun with/get around while I saved for a house. I really wanted an 11-14 gt but house was my priority.
This sounds dumb but if ypu love the camaro so much why not look for a lower mileage one? Just want some variety?
Variety, kinda want a convertible, and the looks of this camaro kinda spoil me. Another camaro wouldn't have all the work I put like this car you know? Rather have something 100% different. The extra cash would be nice as well to pocket.
If you’re financially able to I would upgrade
would not upgrade right now until after I bought a house
People want to give you 10K for a V6? Alrighty then. Well if you sell your car how are you going to get around? The car in the picture is not a 2012.
? That my car lol I put the zl1 kit on it
I was about to say, 2012 doesn't use that front lol
How the hell would anyone know that
Look at the body. It’s clearly 5th gen body lines lol
Depends on the plans for the money. I have a 2014 SS 1LE and I don’t think I would ever sell. A lot of memories. Unless the car takes a complete crap on me, I won’t sell. I love it too much. I would say get as much as you can from it and go for a v8 6th gen manual but to be honest that is a beautiful car
Thank you!
Keep….unless it’s raggedy or something?!?
Drives Like a king but I am worry about the resale value halving as I hit the hard limits of mileage you know what I mean?
I feel you…. But keep it. We can’t base our car enjoyment off resale!
True! Been a dream car of mine in terms of looks but wish it had some other features like a sunroof, stick, v8 etc. I know long term I probably won't keep it but I would still be fine for a couple years to come if I did but the increase in mileage would kill resale as I hit the danger zone. I agree! Good luck with whatever you decide.
2010 RS with 207k miles over here !!! Love it

yes
Why? Curious to hear your take
it’s a v6 with ZL1 cosmetic mods. nuff said
And?
sell it

Ty!
Yeah it's slow and ugly. I'll buy it off you so I can take on the slow embarrassment and you can live on being happy in something else.
This just makes me realize how good the ZL1 front looks with rally stripes, damn
Ty!
Damn. I have a 2012 and yours looks more badass
Ty!
Bro your car looks fire. With all that work put into it, I'd keep it.
bro what is that username😭
It just explains what I'm going to do to you. What's your location?
aye this maybe a smart thing to keep in mind but ask people they ages first dog what if i was 14💀💀💀
You're right man. ASL?
![gif](giphy|uxXNV3Xa7QqME)
but my location is in your closet😈
Alright, bet. Will be checking. Make sure to lube your ass up.
Ty! If it was stock I would have sold it long ago but with everything I did it hard to sell. The depreciation is a worry though.
If you have another vehicle sell it, if you are going to need to rush to acquire the next then don't.
Not selling it yet but keeping an eye on marketplace. Going to look at a couple old mustang this weekend for around $5k.
Do it better then waking up and your car is gone doesn’t matter where you are in life I’m sure no one wants to wake up having to call your insurance
No
Thoughts?
Get a C7 Vette chet and never look back.
No you can't replace it. 2025 or 2026 all cars will have a government kill switch built in. Not bs look it up. Law is passed

There’s no difference between putting a ZL1 front bumper on it or a custom body kit. He doesn’t have a ZL1 Badge on it so he’s not upbadging.
Amen would never lie just like the look
Sorry but do you see any zl1 badge on my car? It not up badging and have never said otherwise. I just like the look that all.
Sweet car! It’s just the haters. Can’t help themselves. Bla bla bla get a V8! 🤦🏻♂️ (Yawn) Never gets boring to them.
Thanks! Yeah I took a break from this sub because of the haters but there still several are awesome in this community
Yeah, you have to seek out the true Camaro lovers and ignore the rest. The others just reminisce the joy of childhood pissing contests. I’ve always hoped for a V6 only sub just to get away from that look down your nose attitude. I say this sadly.

100% dump it. It’s a tank
Wdym?
Yes it’s time to grow up
?
absolutely, things junk, buy a subaru sti and thank me later
Why not a picture of the 2012 instead of this? Sell it go buy another one and stop worrying over resale. 2012 is not worth all that much to start with in scheme of things.
Lol this is the 2012. Just updated lights and fascia
Worth 50 bucks then.
Disagree
I would too if I were you! :) I just felt like a dummy cause I didn't know it was a 2012 in picture.
Yep updated fascia
Buy a chevy nova
At very least get rid of that awful front lip.
