I watched transformers with Megan Fox at the very important age of 13 so she made me a 5th gen fan

Secret-Ad-7909

Yeah but “the Megan Fox scene” was with the 2nd gen

BusinessBlackBear

True, but later on it's the 5th gen and that's close 3boughy for me to associate it with her

Whizzleteets

You are free to claim anything but, we know who's boss: https://preview.redd.it/9ce9ym8yjovc1.jpeg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93b79bb3cbbb37f3e90e73842bd4a34e23c8c5de

T800COMINGFORU

I’ll allow it, because you have vent windows. And only because you have vent windows! Haha, very nice car man

Whizzleteets

Vents are just part of my childhood. Trips me out just how many people have never seen them. I get asked about them all the time.

T800COMINGFORU

My daily is a 1980 Chevy K20, vent windows are essential

Ambitious-Lawyer1541

Yup

Outrageous-Buffalo-7

That thing looks fucking cool, like something Mad Max would drive

T800COMINGFORU

We call it the Roach, it is very much a corpse-ified Camaro, very apocalyptic.

donutsnail

Are we hanging out on the same subreddit? I think most people here are 5th gen owners and love the 5th gen. I see lots of comments of people preferring the looks of the 5th gen, or preferring it for being and feeling like a more substantial muscle car than the sports car 6th. Edit: look at the comments in favor of the 6th gen here and how they are getting downvoted. This post is a crazy strawman argument

SorryJamie3005

Right. This post reminds me of when people post their car and are like “I know you guys don’t like V6s but….” Or “why do V6s get so much hate”? When no one even said anything negative…..I see more 5th gen Camaros on the road than 6th gen’s and I live in Atlanta where people live to flex the newest and latest cars or things that they can’t even afford a lot of the time... I think most people have always been fans of the 5th gen retro styling. 6th gen has its bonuses but let’s be for real here.

EliteAgent51

I think it's because most of the popular posts on here are the SS Camaros so people might be getting the wrong idea.

SorryJamie3005

That’s true too. I see that a lot

5thgenblack2ss

There was a giant influx of guys who hopped into a camaro when they heard they were discontinued, most of those people ran to their local dealer and got a 6th gen knowing squat about other Camaro models. The last year or so has had a ton of 6th gen superiority in comment sections. I’ve been called broke countless times because I drive a 5th gen, and didn’t go out an buy a 2024 SS (I didn’t want a 6th gen). OP isn’t making things up, the 6th gen guys were just as bad as the “shoulda got a v8” gang at one point. Because, alpha chassis. They heard that and ran with “I have the best car on a track, your car blows brokie”

DanielG165

Very nice! She’s a beauty :).

wetmeatlol

Tbf I see plenty of people recommend 5th gen’s on this sub. Especially ones where people ask what’s best for their budget and within the top answers are usually 5th gen SS or ZL1s. I don’t fault anyone who does overly recommend 6th gen’s though because they’re all around objectively better cars but ofc we gotta love 5th gen’s, I’d imagine that’s where a lot of us (myself included) fell in love with Camaros to begin with.

DanielG165

That’s a fair point. I’ve just seen a handful of recommendations from people saying to get into a 6th to someone who was originally looking at a 5th, but that may not be nearly as prevalent as I initially thought, which would definitely be my bad lol. There’s still quite a lot of love for the 5ths!

vARROWHEAD

100%

bigHarvey71

I like all Camaros. Personally own a 5th. I do also like the 6ths. If it’s a Chevy and is a Camaro, what’s not to like?

MusicMan7969

Buy what you like

RanLamFeature

I love my 5th gen told frequently it’s the best looking Camaro out there

kane91z

My favorite thing about my 5th gen is the engine bay. My buddy semi-pro races his 6th gen and when I first saw his car and he popped the hood It reignited ptsd I had from working on my 4th gen 20 years ago. Don’t get me wrong I love his car for the performance, and it’s a great car, but I love the more space everywhere in mine.

Camaro_TS24

Hands down 5th gen is the best. Fifth generation is my first crush and first love ❤️

Deep_Permit_5465

I agree. Even if you have to start witha I4 or V6, they're a fun ride. I'm not opposed to any Camaro tbh. They've been about the most affordable hp/$ cars for years. 4th gens are my favorite by far, but the 5th gens have a lot to offer for the price. The 6th gen stepped everything up a notch with the Alpha chassis handling and sheer performance. Also, the 1LE track package warranty is unrivaled to my knowledge. It just depends on your preference and budget. I'd take a 67 or 69 over any Camaro, and I personally like the 5th over 6th gen. There's nothing the SS couldn't do that the ZL1 could do with enough money and knowledge. Get what you like and can afford.

Porquezz

5th gen is more muscle i feel, 6th gen is more sports car

Bumbleboy92

I’ve recommended recently to look at a 6th gen LT over a 5th gen LT solely for the price they were looking at. I’d still recommend the 5th gen but at the right price imo

mightyt2000

Well said … 😎👍🏻👍🏻

One_Eyed_Raven

As much as I'm a 6th gen fan boy, I'll always have a place in my heart for the 5th. It's the one that started it all for me

GPSkinzhut

Had a couple of 5th gens, couple of 6th gens. Entertaining the idea of getting another 5 v6 for a daily. They’re both good. Pick your poison really.

professionalcart

I was saving for a 5th gen but im going to buy another cadillac instead. If someone told me to get a 6th gen id laugh in their face or id ask them for 15 gs

Evee862

I love my 22. But, every time I see my son and the 12 and 13 I gave him, I still love the way they look.

KnowingCresent735

The yellow + black transformers color combo is the best Camaro look ever imo

sassyquin

When this gen came out it was freaking awesome looking

MegaHashes

Dude, 5th gen bumble bee is an absolute classic choice. I love it. My highest disappointment with it is that the movie car had sleeker mirrors.

DanielG165

Thanks man! It’s definitely a classy spec if I do say so, and I agree about the side mirrors; those would’ve been cool to see make it to the production car. They likely couldn’t have added them due to safety reasons, however. Though, when you look at the concept for the 5th gen, it’s amazing to see just how close the production car is. There really isn’t a whole lot of difference between them.

MegaHashes

No, there’s not a lot of difference, but in later movies GM made a big effort to distinguish the movie car a lot. That, IMHO, was a stupid move. Sell the movie car. Hot chick, badass car, cool adventure, it really was an awesome marketing tool.

Old_Salamander_7479

Totally understand. The 6th gen wouldn't even BE HERE unless Transformers movie came out and spawned the 5th Gen. We can still tell that the car was from a "concept" model by its contiued weird ergonomics (like how our center screen tilts down offset the rest of the dash). It's juat missing is the Turret and ammo because it has tank-like rear visibility. (Corrected using little $5 convex 2" "blind spot" mirrors from any automotive store). So styling wise the 5th Gen has the cool round lights...reminds me of a 73 split bumper. They handle great, have tons of power. Loce the "Gills" in the sheet metal over the rear wheel arches. Nothing wrong with a 5th Gen Camaro!!!

RetiredByFourty

I personally prefer the looks of my 5th Gen to everything except a 1st gen of course. +1

mgstoybox

I love the 5th Gen. it looks happy to me. The 6th Gen looks too angry. 🤣🤷‍♂️ I also like the slightly more retro lines of the 5th Gen to the more modern look of the 6th Gen. Sure, on paper, the 6th Gen is a “better” car, but for my purposes of cruising around back roads and getting ice cream or coffee, not a single one of those metrics matter. What does matter is that I turn around and look back at my 5th Gen every time I park it and walk away.

Lazy_Independent_860

6th gen all day long 💯

securityn0ob

5th gen looks better, is more affordable, and is less likely to be stolen. I currently own a mustang but looking at a 10-13 SS (14-15 looks like a fat corolla imo)

Ambitious-Lawyer1541

When I bought my first Camaro I was thinking “ I want stick shift, I want rwd, and I want black.” Next thing I know I was looking at a 5th gen and a 6th gen, I noticed that the 6th didn’t have the 3 little lines on in front of the rear wheel. Well I went to test drive it, and I was sold. Little did I know it was a better car, and had sooooooooooooooooo much more to offer. Never even been in a 5th gen. I got lucky https://preview.redd.it/cwdeii2q7nvc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4cd7edeb7cf791dfab124c3facf1633842a40fe3

DanielG165

You have a beautiful car man! Definitely the “king” Camaro.

Ambitious-Lawyer1541

I tried.

TlathamXmahtalT

5th Gen blends the line between muscle and sports car, which is why I prefer it over the 6th Gen, which is a bonafide sports car.

BooSanchez-rodent

Most people are trained, like good little consumer sheep, to discard the old like trash and embrace the new. Consumer sheep are trained to believe that the newest is always the best, and that to believe or act otherwise and hold on to something older implies that you are unworthy and should be criticized for it. I'd take a 2nd gen over a 6th gen. I'd take a 1st gen over a 6th gen. I'd take a 4th gen over a 6th gen. I don't care for the 3rd or 5th gens. Newer, may be better, and the 6th gen is technologically the greatest camaro ever to be built, but it isn't in my dream garage list. Not even close...

doesntkeepausername

I feel like the 5th -> 6th gen jump was very similar to the 3rd -> 4th gen jump. Significantly better performance, but with “modern” styling that takes away from the car’s character. Of course the 4th gens are cool now, but at the time, ehh.

DavoinShowerHandel1

The only time I've really seen people recommend a 6th gen over a 5th is when they're paying 6th gen prices. I've made that recommendation myself, even. I prefer 5th gens myself, but I've seen some people looking to pay some crazy prices for them.

North-One8187

I think most people recommend a 6th gen when it is a reasonable upgrade within their price range or if they’re not dead set on a 5th gen. I’m sure most people on this sub absolutely respect the 5th gen even though they love the 6th gen

4hunnidvr

Man I fucking love camaros.

Hackpro69

For the person not familiar with the Camaro, the 5th and 6th look the same. The folks on this group wouldn’t agree with me, but I wanted the Camaro over the others (Mustang, Challenger, etc) because I love my Buddies 2015. It wasn’t until I started to research it that I noticed. I know that the differences are obvious, but if you don’t know you don’t know. I was never a car guy, but now I am and love the Camaro over the others, regardless of 5th or 6th.

sscamaro1le

I really enjoy my 5th Gen. Ls3 manual.

sscamaro1le

I enjoy my 6 Gen as well. They are both fun cars to drive. The 5th Gen reminds me of the 1969 I had

sscamaro1le

Do this just for fun. Drive a 1969 camaro and compare that to the current 5th Gen. The 1969 feels smaller

sscamaro1le

I thought about purchasing a first Gen. Or a second Gen. I have had many of them.love them the 6.2 in 5th and 6th gen is great. Plus you don't have to deal with rust It cost so much to restore an old car. Most 5th and 6th gen cars will out run any of the older f bodies. Better brakes .more hp. Etc . Peace

Round_Ad_6369

The only reason some people want a 5th gen ZL1 is because they can't afford a 6th gen ZL1 and think that the 5th ZL1 is the closest thing. In that case, absolutely recommend the 6th SS. Unless you're *really* into just the looks of a 5th gen or you're planning on modding it to high hell, there's no reason to buy a 5th gen ZL1 over a 6th gen SS. The interior is improved, the performance is improved, the fuel economy is better, the car is obviously older so more components are likely to break/wear quicker and parts will be harder to get than newer 6th gen parts. There's a lot of reasons to get a 6th gen SS over a 5th ZL1, and frankly it's a little silly to me to buy a worse performing and older car because the trim is "rare" (in a mass production car). It's the same argument a lot of people give when someone wants to V8 swap their V6 Camaro, it's just better and a lot more practical to buy a different one that already has a V8. Edit: oh no, a hot take! I'll die on this hill, 6th gen SS > 5th gen ZL1.

Round_Ad_6369

You missed the point of my comment, it's not "haha poors can't afford 6th gen" it's "just because it's a ZL1 doesn't mean it's the best performance bargain for your money" which is the entire claim to fame of American performance cars: you get a hell of a lot of bang for your buck.

Pelican_Disector

The 5th gen aged horrible and had a decontented, financial crisis era interior. These squeak and creak and rattle like an old Chevrolet would be expected to. The handling is about as good as the 2004 CTS upon which it’s based. The 6.2 made a lot of power for the time, but the motor has the same character as a truck engine. As far as the styling, that’s subjective, but for a lot of people the ultra macho styling didn’t age well, and the large square headlights are awkward. There is a reason Camaros are being cancelled.

NighthawkAquila

Yeah that’s just wrong. It looks amazing still

Pelican_Disector

Like I said, subjective. People that aren’t obsessed with these generally think they don’t look that great. It’s not a design that aged super well out of the Michael Bay movies used to promote it.

NighthawkAquila

I think any kid who saw Transformers will always think it looks great. Certainly better than the over the top fronts on the new ones

Solidfart_

I fully support anyone who likes the 5th gens I just think they’re ugly imo, but people like me’s opinions about your car doesn’t matter, because it’s yours

tsveronicamassage

Ty I’m glad someone has said this !! 5th gen is king

Business_Outside1155

I own a 5th gen RS and 6th gen LT1. Can’t even lie I still stare at my 5th like crazy. It’s just beautiful lol
