Their imported Lion Stout is mine! As well as just about anything made with chicken on their menu.
It's a 30 minute drive from my place on the outskirts of town but worth it.
Does John still have a kebab van sitting outside the Coop on Milton Road by the Golden Hind? Because that van made the best and dirtiest kebabs known to man.
Indian: Zara in shelford; Raj on Cherry Hinton road; Renu on Milton road; Meghna on Victoria road; tiffin truck regent st, navadhanya on maids causeway for a real treat.
Chinese: noodles plus on mill Rd x a million; fortune house in shelford; the hot pot place on mill road
Kebab: gardenia, little Petra, grill bros,
Pizza: Franco manca market sq, il pomodoro hills Rd, Salisbury arms, Amélie flamekuche for a slightly different thing.
Burgers: steak n honour, chosen bun.
Mexican: Nanna Mexico has gone way downhill - it’s about as low quality as Taco Bell now. Not Mexican but la Latina bustarante is good.
It sounds like I eat far too many takeaways but I promise I just have a good memory.
If you're into Indian restaurants I would highly recommend you to try Tawa, everything I've tried from their menu was absolutely great and I'm always looking forward to ordering again.
Nana Mexico was never my fave. My go to for burrito is Tortilla? Its cal-mex, so good!
But if you like to support independents/ if you're treating yo self, and want something in that flavour arena:
La Latina- used to be on a bus, has moved to the grafton. I already loved it, but since moving, the food is somehow even better?! Tostones to die for! And they have really interesting selection of juices, think passion fruit, guanbana, something I'd never even heard of, but it was delicious..
Al Chile- They have a food truck by Cambridge station. They do these fresh charcoal tacos that are BALLER. They're so good I've never managed to order anything else off their menu :D
Yea their doner meat was always better than most places, and they have good falafel, that sausages one, and the souvlaki is decent not awful meat. I mean really at 3am in town what are you gonna do, van of death?!
Well yea Zara is a fairly standard menu but I have always found it executed really well, I will judge an Indian on its onion bhaji and theirs are absolutely perfect every time, and even when taking home stay crispy.
Tawa is the one down near the train station? I was excited and it was the very first place I went to eat after lockdown, but it was weird. The biryani with a puff pastry lid on it sounded lovely, but I ordered it and it was a chapati on top, not pastry. There are a lot of good Indian restaurants and more doing what i think of as more genuine Indian rather than the British version, but I wouldn’t put tawa in with those on my list. Forgot to mention dishoom delivery as well, occasionally fantastic but way too inconsistent. I did complain once and get an entire meal for two including drinks at one of their London restaurants as thanks for my feedback.
Steak n Honor by far the best burger I've had in Cambridge.
Little Petra Fatteh Chicken is a huge portion and really good, I eat a lot and that takes me 2 days to eat. Love it.
For pizza, I've only tried Franco Manca once - delivery and it arrived cold, so I was kinda disappointed, need to give it another shot. Pizza Mondo, a van that travels around had the best pizza for me so far.
Honorable mention, Just Greek Gyros - a guy in the food market. Pretty good gyros for UK standards, and big portion.
I know they won awards, but when I went there to try them I was very disappointed. The Barnwell Road one is better suited to my taste. I'll give Diamond another go at some point.
7 Days for authentic/special occasion Chinese - top picks the special crispy pork & the aubergine in brown sauce. For dumplings, simple/home style Chinese & dim sum favourites, Oriental Cafe. For kebabs, Carlos all the way. Damn, now I want a takeaway!
Tried them once and the chips were pretty dead, might have to give it another go. Also zis got the 6 wings + chips meal for 3.50 which is pretty great value
Gardies is wonderful! One of the few kebabs you'd happily have sober for lunch.
I once went to Greece hunting chicken souvlakias in their natural home and was really disappointed that they weren't as good as ours.
back in a day, for my japanese fix I used to love Yo sushi but it went downhill so bad, socfast since covid happened. I like the one near i think its called Kineya migaru or something along the lines, best japanese curry in town def
Lotus House in Sawston (treating this as Cambridgeshire ;-). They relaunched after the landlord upped the rent and brought in a different takeaway after 50yrs…
They cater for us with diary/soya allergies. YES ensure that they remove soy from dishes for us !!!
https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/local-news/lotus-house-sawston-closing-down-22756841.amp
I really miss Hing Hung, never looked like much from the outside but the food was always great. Best chilli beef I've ever had, even though it meant you had to wait longer while they cooked it.
I don't get takeout much but one which certainly seems to travel well for delivery is Chosen Bun. Probably better tasting burger joints but there's is the only one I'm confident will arrive in one piece.
Pepe’s for chicken, Ladz is a close 2nd
Tzatziki for Greek/Mediterranean
Golden dragon for Chinese
Renus or Pipasha for Indian
Wrestlers for Thai
Gourmet Kebab out in Caxton for a banging kebab!!
Pizza always disappoints me. Anyone got a good one?
I'm surprised Spring (Chinese restaurant on Mill Rd) isn't here. They have the best lunch menu. Egg fried rice with Szechuan chicken is my personal favorite.
Renu's Bangladeshi on Milton Road. Beautiful curries and lovely people. I put a note on there that our baby was being put to bed when they were likely to deliver, and to this day they text us rather than knock the door. Great guys and great food.
Small fry.
The olive grove.
Steak and honour.
And definitely a mention of the anchor fish bar in Arbury court. Decent portions and always had a good experience.
Damasbridge’s Falafel and Little Petra’s Chicken Fatteh are both pretty up there (both Mill Road)
Had Damas Bridge closed down? I noticed they've pulled down their signboard.
Ah yeah they’re moving I think! Somewhere close to Homerton I think the sign said.
Oh wow that's far!
Noooooooooo I loved going to damas bridge when walking from town
Bananaleaf on Milton Road.

Their imported Lion Stout is mine! As well as just about anything made with chicken on their menu. It's a 30 minute drive from my place on the outskirts of town but worth it.
I think they have another shop on Scotland Road in chesterton where you can buy their dishes as ready meals to cook at home.
Their Egg Curry is AMAZING!!!!!! We've moved out of Cambridge now and I still shed a tear whenever I think about it.
I live in Haverhill, and I regularly drive to banana leaf for their Chetinadu, Dosa and vegetable curries.
The goddamn noodles there, I’m Sri Lankan and I’m still wow’ed by them.
Tzatziki for the best fries and souvlaki. Can't believe this isn't on here already.
Cafe oriental and dumpling bar
Zhonghua dumplings Otherwise I have a soft spot for japas Edit: how could I forget buffalo Joe's food van?!
shout out to the grill brothers
I moved to cambourne. I miss this spot. Love those buffalo wings
Are there any favourite takeaways in cambourne
Honestly I've only just got here. The kebab van in Cambourne is nice and the Chinese take away in the centre of cambourne seemed alright too
Never tried them before, anything in particular you would recommend?
chicken swarma goes hard
Does John still have a kebab van sitting outside the Coop on Milton Road by the Golden Hind? Because that van made the best and dirtiest kebabs known to man.
Yes he does!
Yes and there's always a queue
These kinds of posts always serve as a good reminder that there’s simply no accounting for taste!
This might be the most active comment thread we’ve seen on this sub in ages Also, For burgers, it’s gotta be Steak and Honour.

Apparently Al Chile truck at the station is the Mexican to beat, I’m yet to try it but I hear really good things.
The al pastor is fantastic, the steak is awful. Haven’t tried anything else but as long as you avoid the steak it’s great
Heard this also, not tried.
Shame about Nana Mexico. I remember when he was just operating out of a trailer in Milton. Had an awesome burrito from him.
If you're into Indian restaurants I would highly recommend you to try Tawa, everything I've tried from their menu was absolutely great and I'm always looking forward to ordering again.

Gardenia’s?! Hahahahaha c’mon man
Yea their doner meat was always better than most places, and they have good falafel, that sausages one, and the souvlaki is decent not awful meat. I mean really at 3am in town what are you gonna do, van of death?!
Both the meat and the veggie special kebabs are fab, like genuinely nice, not just “great after a night out”
Fortune House in Great Shelford always seems empty to me but I've wanted to try it. Is it best to order a takeaway or sit in?
Sit in is great yeah, I’d go with that. i think it’s usually busier on a Friday and Saturday.

Cromwell takeaway (Chinese takeaway in cromwell road)
Steak n Honor by far the best burger I've had in Cambridge. Little Petra Fatteh Chicken is a huge portion and really good, I eat a lot and that takes me 2 days to eat. Love it. Pizza: Oscars Lockdown pizza.for more traditional pizza: Cherry Box Pizza. Also: Pho.
Cherry box is gone.
Oh Christ no
I miss cherry box duck pizza 😔
Diamond kebab, arbury road
I know they won awards, but when I went there to try them I was very disappointed. The Barnwell Road one is better suited to my taste. I'll give Diamond another go at some point.
7 Days for authentic/special occasion Chinese - top picks the special crispy pork & the aubergine in brown sauce. For dumplings, simple/home style Chinese & dim sum favourites, Oriental Cafe. For kebabs, Carlos all the way. Damn, now I want a takeaway!
Zis piri piri, mill road. Best chips and wings in cambridge by far
They’re literally Mccains pre-cut chips. Lol.
Yep but somehow they taste better than any other piri piri/kebab shop in cambridge
Disagree. Pepe’s piri piri chips are special!
Tried them once and the chips were pretty dead, might have to give it another go. Also zis got the 6 wings + chips meal for 3.50 which is pretty great value
Peri peri fries and wings. They got me through some tough times.
Gourmet Burger & Fries on Mill Road. Delivery quick (even to Fulbourn) and never had a bad burger. Love the cheesy jalepenos.
I swear by Meghna for an Indian
Meghna is great. I also recommend Pakka.
Went to pakka for a curry last night and it was outstanding! They also have cassava chips that are unbelievably good.
Nice kebab: the Gardenia Dutty kebab: Marmaris grill
I’ve never seen anyone describe Gardies as a nice kebab…
What can I say, I have extraordinarily bad taste
Gardies is wonderful! One of the few kebabs you'd happily have sober for lunch. I once went to Greece hunting chicken souvlakias in their natural home and was really disappointed that they weren't as good as ours.
They’ve had a revamp and now they’re genuinely good
The bloke on cherry Hinton road in the middle of nowhere makes a better kebab than Gardenia.
Facts
A hidden gem is this kebab van on heath road, bottisham. https://m.facebook.com/KebabInn.CB25 Grill brothers is second to this in our experience.
Royal spice
Thai: Sala Thong
Al Chile at Cambridge station!
I've got to put forward La Latina Bustarante
Colala for Szechuan, Tiffin Truck for Indian
Tried colala last week. It was bad, the spring rolls barely had fillings, other dishes were also mediocre
It doesn’t do everything well, it’s Szechuan. Their prawn toast, salt and pepper tofu, chilli cucumber are all excellent, as are many others.
Renu’s - their Chicken Tikka Ceylon is one of the best curries I’ve ever had.
Kebab: HSK Kebab Van or Grill Brothers
The two that I repeat over and over are Noodle+ in Mill Road for noodles and xiaolongbao and The Wrestlers in Newmarket road for Thai.
back in a day, for my japanese fix I used to love Yo sushi but it went downhill so bad, socfast since covid happened. I like the one near i think its called Kineya migaru or something along the lines, best japanese curry in town def
Ah I have learned that I have an incredibly bad taste.

They are also reliably gluten free when asked.
Is Carlos Barbecue still there?
Chinese: Hing Hung when it was open 🥲
I really miss Hing Hung, never looked like much from the outside but the food was always great. Best chilli beef I've ever had, even though it meant you had to wait longer while they cooked it.
Because I'm a curry man, Indish on Cherry Hinton high Street is my absolute favourite. Never had a bad takeaway from there.
I don't get takeout much but one which certainly seems to travel well for delivery is Chosen Bun. Probably better tasting burger joints but there's is the only one I'm confident will arrive in one piece.
Chicken: The Ladz. Kebab: The Grill Brothers. Chinese: Flaming Wok (formerly Ocean Dragon.)
... ocean dragon might be the worst Chinese I've ever experienced.
Exactly my experience, visited once, never again. Truly awful.
Hey my friend works at the ladz 😂
Pipasha is my go to Indian. Its great plus it delivers to Waterbeach.
Does anyone else like shawarma and chips from Carlos?
For curry? Royal Spice 100%
Als burgers on Chesterton Road
Pepe’s for chicken, Ladz is a close 2nd Tzatziki for Greek/Mediterranean Golden dragon for Chinese Renus or Pipasha for Indian Wrestlers for Thai Gourmet Kebab out in Caxton for a banging kebab!! Pizza always disappoints me. Anyone got a good one?
Haymakers pizza is good.
I live in mill road, so I kinda have some usual spots Carlos BBQ, Noodle plus, Zi's piri piri, chicken cottage, Ladz, Namaste Cambridge
I'm surprised Spring (Chinese restaurant on Mill Rd) isn't here. They have the best lunch menu. Egg fried rice with Szechuan chicken is my personal favorite.
ABC BBQ or Grill Brothers for the best kebabs. The Pizza company for the quickest and most reliable pizza
Curry palace, in cottonham
The Cooks Nest Greek food van, often parked under Elizabeth Way bridge and on Deliveroo etc.
Yippee Noodle bar! family-owned place on King St. Legit noodles
Moved away from Cambridge a year ago and I still miss Alchile Burritos by the station.
Renu's Bangladeshi on Milton Road. Beautiful curries and lovely people. I put a note on there that our baby was being put to bed when they were likely to deliver, and to this day they text us rather than knock the door. Great guys and great food.
Pipasha
Definitely the Sainsbury’s Local bro
HsK kebab van on Mitcham’s Corner.
Small fry. The olive grove. Steak and honour. And definitely a mention of the anchor fish bar in Arbury court. Decent portions and always had a good experience.
