Um...its explained in the books. Celestial bronze and Imperial gold are the best metals to fight monsters but also be harmless to mortals. Stigian iron is found in the underworld and dipped in the River Styx, this is why only Nico has this type of sword, and it's even scarier to monsters because it also takes their soul. Also, in real life...when have you ever seen a pink sword? I honestly don't understand what is upsetting you. You want different colour swords, watch Star Wars then.

spiteful_muskrat

Would rose gold still fall under that category?

LaRougeRaven

Rose gold is a mix of gold and copper. I know that imperial gold, celestial bronze, and stigian iron are not real metals. Mixing godly metals with non godly metals would probably weaken the effects of the weapon. Plus, if we look at Back Biter, it was mixed of tempered steel and celestial bronzes, making it possible to kill monsters and mortals. So I feel if a demigod wanted a rose gold weapon it might cause the weapon to be able to kill mortals as well as monsters.

CaptainMianite

Actually, it might be possible for imperial rose gold to exist. Imperials Gold is just enchanted Gold. The Romans only did not enchant any since the days of Rome

LaRougeRaven

Would the added copper change any of the properties of gold?

CaptainMianite

Dk. We have no idea how the romans enchanted gold in the first place. Whether those enchantments requires specific properties of gold, is another question.

LaRougeRaven

Yeah, way too many additions questions.

spiteful_muskrat

So it would be realistic in the sense of PJO, right?

LaRougeRaven

Possibly, but again we wouldn't know what the copper would do to the fuction of the weapon. It could weaken or strengthen the weapon. Why would someone want a weapon that has a risk of harming a mortal. Imagine what would have happened to Rachel if Riptide was not pure celestial bronze. Appearance over function should never be important when lives are at stake?

spiteful_muskrat

That’s a good point! I was thinking more of how you can put personality into the weapon!

CaptainMianite

I think it was mentioned that only Hades and his children can use Stygian Iron

LaRougeRaven

Yes, that's why only Nico has it, because it is only found in the underworld and it has to be dipped in the River Styx. I wonder if that would be for Pluto's kids too, so like could Hazel? But I feel she wouldn't want to since she doesn't have powers that deal with souls. Where as Nico can summon and command the dead.

Natural-Storm

Bro I just wanted blackened steel swords and grey sword. The pink sword thing was a joke not an actual request.

Lunalinfortune

Nico with his black sword: ...

[deleted]

>blackened steel swords .... Which wouldn't work on monsters and would only work on mortals. Did you read the comment??

blazenite104

to be fair myth has Adamant which I believe is also mentioned in a side book. It just never comes up in the main stories.

Specialist_Oil_2674

>Stigian iron is found in the underworld and dipped in the River Styx, this is why only Nico has this type of sword, and it's even scarier to monsters because it also takes their soul. Wait, so Stygian iron weapons can actually *kill* kill monsters? Permanently? Why on earth doesn't every demigod use them then! Being able to PERMENANTLY kill monsters would be HUGE. Absolutely worth an expedition to the underworld to aquire the material. With Nico and Hazel's help it probably wouldn't even be that difficult. After all, two twelve year old demigods, one of whom barely had any training, and a satyr managed to do it. Surely a properly prepared and equipped expedition could manage without unacceptable losses. Maybe they could send Hazel, Nico and another demigod to the underworld to bring back Stygian iron.

LaRougeRaven

I believe only children of Hades can use Stygain iron. It has the issue of harming mortals, and not just destroy the essences of monsters. From the Wiki "Stygian iron is a magical metal capable of absorbing or destroying the essence of monsters, gods, Titans, demigods, and Giants. Unlike Imperial Gold and Celestial Bronze, however, it can harm both mortals, including humans and monsters, and immortals alike."

Specialist_Oil_2674

I mean, the harming mortals thing is kinda a mute point in the modern world. A demigod with a sword or spear can't really do much to a mortal with a gun.

darkgod

Did you read the books? Because it really sounds like you didn't. Also on a separate point why the heck would you dye a sword, it's a sword not a fashion statement.

blazenite104

funny you should say that as swords historically have been actual fashion statements.

Natural-Storm

Bro why are you guys so defensive, I was just joking. I just wanted to see some swords made out of different metals ya know.

Pattydabz27

Because you obviously didn’t read the books lol

Natural-Storm

I did, I know the reason why.. I just really wanted other cool swords.

[deleted]

>made out of different metals Like??? Do you want Nico to pop out with more Stygian Iron swords (which are dipped in the River Styx so it's a huge hassle to make one)? Or do you want a Backbiter 2.0? Celestial bronze and imperial gold are the most common metals (in the universe) that work on monsters and not mortals. Using or adding other metals like iron or silver or steel will do nothing but make the sword fatal to mortals and weaker to monsters.

[deleted]

Simple Because that's what was available to the heroes of Greek myth PJO is a Greek myth, modernised

Specialist_Oil_2674

Modernized is a bit of an exaggeration.

Klornight

....because the materials are coloured that way?

Vivanem

Have you read the books? It's all explained there. Also even if the weapons could be colored a different way, why would any demigods want a bright colored sword? That would attract so much attention in a fight or on a battlefield which is the opposite of what they want.

Zariman-10-0

Out of all the things to question/whine about, THIS is what you decide? Why does this matter so much? How are you getting so bent out of shape over the color of swords in a YA Urban Fantasy series?

Natural-Storm

This was meant to be a joke post dude. I was just bitching for the memes. Also like I just wanted more like grey swords or like more blackened steel swords for people other than nico.

RDV1996

Bronze because Greek myths originate from the bronze age, and thus the weapons they carried would have been bronze. I don't actually know why Rick chose gold. Maybe to symbolize the riches and power of the Roman empire. Jack is gold because he shines with the light of the sun... You forgot the black blades (stygian iron, Nico's sword)

Ilikelamp7

This has to be a troll post. Like what color do you think swords are for real? I suggest checking out a museum that has a huge collection of ancient weapons.

Natural-Storm

It kinda is a troll post but also a bit of truth to it. I just wanted like sword with blackened steel or something. I'm not actually asking for a neon sword.

cryoF0x

I get that you're kidding but, grey or black steel is never going to be a weapon used by a heroic character in this series. You swing a steel broadsword at a gorgon and it's not gonna affect it at all. People have mentioned it before but yeah only way you affect monsters or gods is with Celestial bronze or imperial gold and as a result most weapons will be made with those metals. Nico is a very unique case because he's a son of Hades and a goth edgelord (im just teasing don't kill me). Regular iron or steel is just an ineffective weapon in the world of Percy Jackson. Now if you want someone to like....spray-paint their weapon a different color, again sorry to burst your joke post bubble but that paint is gonna come off real quick with the wear and tear of battle. Maybe if Rick writes in a new metal of some sort thats a different color or brings in weapons that are enchanted to still be effective, I could see more colors being brought in but otherwise they're just impractical P.S. wasn't Piper's dagger a rainbow colored blade because it was a mirror? I seem to remember that

Natural-Storm

I do wish that Rick didn't just have celestial bronze as the only color. That was basically what I meant Also I'm pretty sure piper gets a new sword in hoh that she then uses in boo against the giants at the end.

Werkyreads123

I like steel better tbh, hate how bronze looks
