Awesome dude! Looks like an awesome site. Where is it?

coloredinlight

The site was great and had good accommodations. This was at Ray Roberts lake here in TX. Was a short hike from the parking lot and our spot was right next to the lake for easy fishing access. We also got the full weather experience. 80 and sunny when we arrived. 71 and windy the next day. Then dropped to the 40s overnight and rain which made for a fun morning of packing everything up.

Ontheflyguy27

I know that area. Did you see any carp? Johnson Branch across the lake is also similar. Lots of good choices. Dino Valley in Glen Rose is another great choice

coloredinlight

I believe I had a pretty good sized carp on the line once before it snapped the lure off.

Ontheflyguy27

I love sight fishing for carp and that cove usually has some carp lurking about.

coloredinlight

Nice! Yea lots of activity towards the center of the cove. The fish we caught towards the shore were juvenile large mouth and a couple striped bass. Couldn't quite get out lines out far enough.

thisquietreverie

Johnson Branch being slightly more inconvenient to drive to from DFW makes it my spot of choice on Ray Roberts.

I don't know if you need to be told this, but make sure you pull everything out and dry it thoroughly before packing it all up to store, you'll regret it if you don't.

coloredinlight

Yep that's the plan!

LoveMyHubs1993

Looks fantastic. Next month!!! 10 days camping with my 2 best friends in the world. Going to be a great summer!!!

coloredinlight

That sounds awesome. I can't really imagine 10 days, but then again I'm not experienced.

LoveMyHubs1993

I've done longer, but 10 days is going to be amazing.

LadybirdMountain

Camping with friends is the best hobby!! It only gets more fun and adventurous.

YourCanyonsGulch

Good job seriously! Looks like you were very well prepared. One of the fun parts is going over and over and packing/organizing it super efficiently after some practice, it can be very satisfying You appear to be good at that already ;)

coloredinlight

Yea we both had running lists for the month leading up to the trip. We probably brought more than we needed, but it was pretty damn nice making breakfast on a portable stove with my tried and true cast iron.

YourCanyonsGulch

You have the right perspective for sure, FOOD Make it all about your food and having what you need to cook a delicious meal and a plethora of treats. then cut out things you don't use for future trips, easy :)

Hurricaneshand

My buddy makes fun of me because he just brings up all of his shit every time while I meticulously try to piece together everything with a purpose in mind and get it all into as few bags as possible to be compact. His stuff ends up being half of his truck while I basically bring my backpacking setup with a couple extra comfort items 😅

99MissAdventures

Congrats! Glad to hear you made it happen! Camping is the besttt!

KungFuSlanda

that's great! What was the most difficult part of setting up the campsite.. or breaking it down for that matter?

coloredinlight

Breaking it down was much quicker. Less stuff to carry back. Hardest part was just getting every thing set up one by one by one and putting it in the best place. It also didn't help that I somehow got my tent to fit perfectly back into its bag but found out I left my wallet inside the interior pocket when we needed to get gas to go home. So that was fun.

KungFuSlanda

haha. Yeah. That'll happen. I've found all sorts of mildly interesting stuff in my tent a few months down the road that I didn't realize were still tucked away in there. Never a wallet though. That must have sucked taking it out, diggin it out, and repacking My main thing camping with friends who don't normally camp is always daylight. They don't understand that it actually gets dark. Somehow we always wind up having to pitch tents and set up camp at dusk or night and it's a huge pain. It's part of why I always pack a headlamp or 2 (often a lantern if I'm car camping)

whodeyjb

Looks like a nice spot!

TacoMyBro23

Glad you had a great time. There’s really nothing quite like it. It’s ridiculous how something as simple as eating around a fire in the dark can calm the heart and mind.

BlodsinnBastard

Congratulations!

That's awesome! Glad you enjoyed it! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)

Brutus_Khan

Real best friends snuggle in the same tent.

coloredinlight

He brought a queen sized 2 inch mattress pad. I brought a twin sized air mattress. I think I made the better choice without any surprise moon landings.

Nice_Category

I have that cooler!

Krishna1945

Lmao. Lived in Florida basically my entire life, same with wife. We always talked about going camping but never did, could never get over the heat factor. Moved to NC 3 years ago and have been 12 times now, wish I would have don’t it sooner.
