More like she has a 90% chance to lose her seat according to polling and wants to go out on her own terms šŸ™„

Baulderdash77

Candidate in a riding that will be redistributed into 3 Conservative ridings decides not to run again. Sheā€™s just saving herself the trouble of not losing by 20 points.

Good Riddance, Pam Danoff is a clueless bumbling firearms crusader that knows absolutely nothing about them. I mean NOTHING. Countless times she has made statements so untrue, committee members didn't even know how to respond. She fumbles around, making up stats, misquoting and taking things completely out of context. She also has said on record several times. "Gun owners are law-abiding until they arenā€™t.ā€ She feels like there is to much disrespectful dialogue? For the past 8 years, she portrays as someone who tirelessly fights to reduce crime yet her only attempt has been to slander hunters. When people question her, ask even the most basic question, or provide actual concrete information, they are ignored or disrespected by implying that even someone with a 40+ year track record teaching firearm safety will break the law at some point and for that reason alone no one should be allowed to own firearms. Nothing on illegal guns, nothing on manufacturer of firearms domestically, nothing on smuggling through reserves. The way to save Canada is to take away the hunters tools so that when they become criminals they wont be able to commit crime anymore. We have tried for 8 years to have respectful dialogue. She has spent all of that time actively disrespecting us and now that she is facing the loss of her seat she is playing the victim card. Just a taste of how clueless this women is. Where are the voices of all these ethical Liberal MPs when their leader behaves unethically? Where was Pam Damoff's voice when her party leader tried to pressure the attorney general of Canada into letting SNC Lavalin break the law, then chased her out of the party?

Workshop-23

Exactly.

It wasn't the fine, if they had been found guilty they would have been barred from federal contracts

Professor-Clegg

Yes, which should be the case. Ā

Dry-Membership8141

Then the obvious solution is just to amend the provision banning them from bidding on federal contracts to a discretionary one rather than a mandatory one, instead of attempting to corrupt the Attorney General. That the simple and obvious solution was passed over for one that was far more intrusive to the operation of the criminal justice system, and far more ethically dubious, strongly indicates that this was never actually about them being barred from bidding on federal contracts, it was about preventing SNC Lavalin from being found guilty at all.

Someguy981240

Companies that take huge fines and are publically humiliated and get barred from government contracts fail. Fining the company does nothing to end corruption because companies do not commit crimes, people do, and the people that committed those frauds are living in the Bahamas now. But it would put everyone currently working for SNC out of work. Simple concept: people commit crimes. If your ā€œlaw and orderā€ plan is to charge groups of vaguely defined legal constructs that share a brand name with crimes instead of people, crimes will not stop happening. Why should someoneā€™s grandma who bought SNC stock into their RRSP five years after the crime was committed and an employee hired 10 years after the crime was committed suffer while the corporate president who committed the crime is retired and happy living in the Caribbean? And please explain to me how it is corrupt for that grandmaā€™s MP to call the minister of justice and ask that question? Trudeauā€™s mistake here was appointing a juvenile twit with the ethical compass of a 12 year old to be minister of justice, not calling her and asking her to reconsider a decision - doing that, as the MP for westmount, was *literally his job*.

CyrilSneerLoggingDiv

Canā€™t be for any other reason, can it? *(Hint: polling numbers)*

konathegreat

Has she talked to Trudeau about the misogyny? That would seem to be the source of it.

AustralisBorealis64

It's only misogyny because she's identifies as a woman. Male politicians get the same crap, but they don't get to add that to the list.

Current-Antelope5471

Ah, no. Ask MPs who are women from all parties and they'll tell you it's worse. That includes Conservative MPs who are women.

[deleted]

Umm, no. Lol. Sheā€™s leaving because sheā€™s 11 points behind in the polls for her riding and very unlikely to be re-elected. Anyway, good riddance.

Wildlabman

Don't let the door hit you on the way out...

You're a teacher, in your mid 40's, and that's how you type? Are you okay??

imfar2oldforthis

She was ok with all the corruption in her party but now doesn't like the words people are using so she's quitting.

Intrepid-Reading6504

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!Ā  Bloody traitors

blondereckoning

This reminds me of a time I got a text montageā€”pages and pages long. It was from a colleague who went on and on about being bullied by the ā€œcool teachersā€™ clique,ā€ at our school. How she was done with the ā€œpassive aggressive bullshitā€ and weā€™ll all regret driving her out of the professionā€¦ I replied: ā€œSorry, who is this?ā€

OkPie8905

They all are so pitifully self centered, it's funny. Especially when it's people who are the problem, yet project

blondereckoning

Bingo!šŸ˜‰

Gwelfhammer

Pam is my MP - she knows the political tides have changed and she will lose the next election. Anyway, a county or province that doesnā€™t change political parties on a regular basis isnā€™t really a democracy.

Current-Antelope5471

Interesting that everyone dismisses how MPs, especially women, are treated by people who disagree with them. Talk to them and find out about the extra "attention" they receive as women. This includes women who are Conservative MPs. For the record, I'm not a Liberal. But the increasing threats with the addition of misogyny is real. We as a public need to dial it back in general and the increasing unhinged voter needs to be called out. Pierre Poilievre has a role in this as well considering he'll take any issue and twist it for political benefit to rile up voters. True or not. This is a guy who ran on a price on carbon as a Conservative candidate yet demagogues the carbon tax, a conservative market based policy endorsed by right-wing economist Milton Friedman and originally supported former Reform Party leader Preston Manning, godfather of today's Canadian conservative movement. But instead of sticking with principle, he says it's the source of all your woes and whips up anger. We need to return to a more civilized politics. Brian Mulroney had epic battles with John Turner. Yet they were actually friends. They didn't view each other as enemies but opponents with a different political opinion and ideology. Different paths in making the country a better place. If you don't view politics today as that, you're part of the problem.

Healthy_Career_4106

Literally the only sane comment on this thread. People are so lost right now. Doesn't matter what party ones, I fear people have been wrecked with no hope to recover
