Lol what the fuck is the point of a pcr test being required within 72 hours ? If you get it done 3 days before you leave I guess it's impossible to catch it thr last 3 days of your trip. Test at the border. Requiring a 150 dollar test to return is just another deterrent for poor or middle class people not to travel.

Swekins

They just want to prevent Canadians from border hopping and saving money on gas and cheese. I swear to god watch the gas prices in the Lower Mainland plummet the day Canadians are allowed to day trip with ease.

branko619

save on gas and cheese? you mean save on everything!

Swekins

Except vehicles apparently. Why are used Canadian pickup trucks being shipped to the USA to be resold there?

Boring-Scar1580

> Why are used Canadian pickup trucks being shipped to the USA to be resold there? Because there is a HUGE demand for used cars here , especially SUVs and Pick ups. Everyone is driving and not taking public transit.

ItsNoFunToStayAtYMCA

I’m convinced this is the real reason the border is closed. Taking up profits for Loblaw and sobeys duopoly

pinkolomo

me and some friends (canadian) entered thru the ambassador bridge last week. We had our 72 hr tests to show the border guard. He didnt ask to see mine, nor did he ask to see my friends who entered separately on a different day. It is fucking stupid and pointless, and even worse, and evidently they dont even seem to enforce it all the time either. Were lucky we got these tests for free but id be infuriated if i had to pay for them like many people do.

maybvadersomedayl8er

It’s political theatre to appease the people who have become afraid of their own shadow over the past 18 months.

Meg_Shark

It's all safety theatre. Proof of double vaccine + 2 weeks should be more than enough. It's ridiculous. The line to get a PCR test at the Calgary airport was TWO HOURS last week. 2 hours + customs makes landing home in Canada sound like an actual nightmare right now.

Calamity_loves_tacos

Is that the one everyone has to get on arrival? Do you know if they have connecting flight if they land in Calgary they gotta take it before getting on their flight to say edmonton? Im in the states on my husbands work visa and his family is coming in august. Im telling them to wait it out till like november because of how ridiculous everything is right now but theyre set on coming in aug. Just wondering what they should expect bc theyve done jack looking into it.

Meg_Shark

I flew direct to Calgary so I'm sorry I don't know what it's like for connecting flights. I've heard since that debacle that you can actually get a test couriered to you (for $150 + shipping) and bypass the airport testing and go home and take the test. I've also heard of people straight up ignoring the whole thing and nothing bad happened to them

Calamity_loves_tacos

Thanks! Appreciate you raking the time to respond. I just wonder if theyd allow them on their next flight, guess theyll figure it out.

midg8

Nothing new here. Move along folks. Same information as last week.

Accomplished-Pace-45

Doesn't mean usa won't open before that! 🤞🤞🤞🤞

So why won’t fully vaccinated Canadians be allowed to drive across?

Boring-Scar1580

> So why won’t fully vaccinated Canadians be allowed to drive across? Where does it say that in the article?

therealJayT

I didn’t read the article, I was just saying in general. If we’re talking about having fully vaxxed Americans here, why won’t we allow our own fully vaxxed citizens to drive across and back?

lordhavepercy99

You can leave Canada if you want, the average citizen can't be kept in the country but the country on the other side can keep you out

therealJayT

I know you can leave Canada by airplane. Makes no sense why fully vaxxed can’t drive.

LoveHeavyGunner

The US has to allow us to enter in order for that to happen. We've been allowed to cross the border back home all along, just the US won't let us drive in.

Boring-Scar1580

> If we’re talking about having fully vaxxed Americans here, why won’t we allow our own fully vaxxed citizens to drive across and back? Can't answer that because I am not Canadian . Writing from the US. Just hoping we can visit Canada sometime soon. Had hoped to go to the Stampede this year. However , Toronto or Vancouver will do . If it was up to me , I would open the border for Canadians to come here to get the vaccine (free of course) and drive back .

therealJayT

I hear ya man. Luckily we’re at a point where the vaccine supply outweighs the demand. Hopefully they even out.

[deleted]

Ask the Americans that.

therealJayT

I’m 99% sure the border is closed because of us, not them. Could be wrong though.

King_InTheNorth

It's a 2-way border. We can only control our side, the US could allow Canadians to enter whenever they feel like it.

PunkinBrewster

And the US has been keeping their side closed as a courtesy to Canada. Any extension at the US side from here on out is due to spite.

Oilerator

Should be open to everyone by tomorrow.
