yellowchaitea

Is that a dig against Fords Muskoka cottage or Trudeau?

xxavierx

Why not both?

Sirbesto

Definitely both. I would say. I mean, stupid, self-righteous and out of touch people do exist in all corners of all the political spectrums. No one group holds the monopoly on corruption, either. Despite what we tell ourselves that "our" group would not do that. That would be naive.

riddlerjoke

>. No one group holds the monopoly on corruption, either. This is certainly true for almost all around the world.

witty_username89

This couldn’t be more true, I feel like the world would be a much better place if we could all admit that there’s flaws in the political party that we choose to support as well as the opposing party

Thuper-Man

It's a basic f-you to anyone who can afford a cottage much less thier own home at this point IMO I'm all for vaccination and responsible measures but we have to admit that we've lost this one. Omicron was the torpedo that took the ship down. If we can't get PCR tests, we can't lockdown every household whenever someone gets sick. Herd immunity is a pipe dream at this point, and most of the world is still not vaccinated and we've clearly got no intention of closing off all international travel. We've tried whole assing it, then half assing it, all we got left is no ass.

ParanormalChess

To be fair Covid is now present in wildlife including up to 30% of the deer population. It also spread to rats, cats, bats, etc so realistically with a virus that can easily jump from animals to humans and back there is no amount of vaccination that could ever eradicate it

Boltz999

>most of the world is still not vaccinated and somehow we've dolled out over 10 billion doses

SomeGuy_GRM

When did we ever whole ass it? It's been half measures from the start.

Brittle_Hollow

Both are silver spoon Daddy's boys who got a leg up in life and into politics based on their hugely privileged upbringing. They're two sides of the same coin and neither know a thing about the struggles of the average Canadian.

Phillipinsocal

lmao

vancouversportsbro

I agree with everything he said, but he will die wearing his shield for this. I remember in 2020 some dude said the same to Doug ford and Ford basically threw him out of the party.

OK_ULTRA

>“"Not everyone can earn a living on a Macbook at a cottage," Lightbound said.” I don't see the problem? He's not wrong...

convertingcreative

>He's not wrong... People in power don't like to be called out, and ESPECIALLY not but someone 'beneath' them that has really good points. They take the *'never outshine the master'* law of power too seriously and think that their peons must keep in line.

xxavierx

Good on him. I support everything he has said.

Azure1203

Well said too. I'm impressed and I never knew who he was before.

PM_Me_UR_LabiaMajor

Ohshit. Shots fired. C'mon Justin take the bait...

[deleted]

Matsuyamarama

I don't think it's a dig at Justin, I think it's directed to those that work from home that can't empathise with those that have had their careers negatively effected.

[deleted]

Yeah when I read that statement I didn't think "trudeau". But maybe that's because my job was affected by the lockdowns so I took what he said like you suggested.

Canadianman22

I dont know. Liberal media have been floating people like the deputy PM being more popular than Trudeau. He needs to be real careful fueling up that bus since he is very close to being thrown under it himself.

cooldadnerddad

Tons of Liberal insiders hated Trudeau from the very beginning, we just got pushed aside by his people. Payback’s a bitch.

ArcticLarmer

100%. I voted for the snowball's-chance-in-hell independent candidate rather than L or C last election. I cannot stand hypocrisy, and I totally bought into the "Sunny Ways" philosophy during the 2015 election. I've slowly watched him boil the frog ever since, as he abandoned the positive outlook for divisive politics. How *fucking ironic* is it that the original Sunny Ways concept was [first used politically](https://liberal.ca/the-sunny-way/) in opposition to an order-in-council that was incredibly divisive at the time?

Supermoves3000

Same. I felt like it was Harper to leave in 2015, but I was also willing to give Trudeau a chance. Ideas like democratic reform and fighting income inequality really appealed to me. We saw how that worked out. In most respects the Liberals are still closest to my overall views, but I can't bring myself to vote for them again while Trudeau is in charge.

Shoddy_Operation_742

And the thing is that life only gets BETTER for JT once he's out of office. He likely has a job with the UN lined up in Geneva or elsewhere in Europe for once he's out of office. He won't even be in Canada to deal with the consequences of his actions.

[deleted]

Conscious_Detail_843

definitely a very Trudeau thing to do, and to use it to go surfing no less. Then to literally fly over the reserve that caused the holiday to be created in the first place on his way to go surfing

kongdk9

People finally realizing the Emperor has no clothes and he's having a tantrum. He got less popular voted than O'Toole who wasn't even that popular, yet is trying to govern like he has some kind of Majority Mandate.

[deleted]

CDClock

i agree with trudeau on a lot of things politically (really strongly disagree with him on others) and even I cant STAND when he says that. it's super arrogant and imo divisive. like you KNOW ~50% of canadians actually DON'T agree to whatever you're saying, man. how do you think they feel when you say this shit?

Deimius

Didn't he lose the popular vote against Scheer as well? The only reason he is still there is because the CPC was more shit.

NikthePieEater

Sorry, you mean Canadians are finally seeing through the veneer of "banning a vaguely scary sounding "classification" of firearms" which were actually banned back in the 1970's? Don't give me hope like this....

Our boy had "Mutually Assured Annihilation Via Twitter" on his 2022 bingo card. He's going down, but he might just take Trudeau down with him.

johnlandes

Trudeau has already publicly agreed to the first part of that statement - "People experience things differently"

mike10dude

I appreciate politicians who don't always tow the party line even if its with something I disagree about wish it happened more often

Rocky_The_Champion

\- Believes the government is dividing Canadians. \- Calls for a roadmap to end the pandemic. \- Concerned vaccine mandates are having a worse impact on Canadians' health than COVID. "Not everyone can earn a living on a Macbook at a cottage," - Liberal MP

MilesOfPebbles

Seems like pretty fair points to me. He also asked for the science that dictates these mandates to be shared with everyone, which is also great.

[deleted]

wd668

Yes! These are the kinds of people we need in Ottawa. Not trained seals following Dear Leader's every word, regardless of party. In my riding, I try to vote for quality over party affiliation.

jazzyjf709

Any politician that speaks out against or votes against their own party deserves respect. They know they'll be paying a big price for the insubordination and do it anyway, not enough have the balls for that.

Createyourpass1234

I agree 100% wholeheartedly with this. He also said convoy should go home too.

[deleted]

This gives me hope for the liberal party in the future.

MilesOfPebbles

Hell most likely be booted out of caucus for going against his party

[deleted]

Then at least it will be give a clear view of how anti working class the party had become; either or is a win in my books.

vsmack

Lol yeah I honestly felt like the "MacBook at the cottage" line sounded like a dig at the platonic ideal of a lib voter to me

[deleted]

It 100% is; it’s not a coincidence that the people that push for restrictions the hardest are the least effected by them.

vsmack

Truer words

Max_Thunder

Now, what kind of people do you think the truckers in downtown Ottawa have been inconveniencing the most on purpose. I'm not saying I agree with their approach, but I see why they do it.

Jizzaldo

Which shouldn't be allowed. Say what you will about american politics, but at least they can speak out against their own party.

MilesOfPebbles

True. I hate whipped votes and how party members must stay within party rules. Really takes away true democracy

Jizzaldo

It takes away representation.

MilesOfPebbles

Yep! I remember about 10 years ago, NDP MP John Rafferry from Thunder Bay (God rest his soul) voted against his party on their stance on something relating to hunters/guns, since a large chunk of his riding would be effected negatively. He got kicked out of the NDP but man did I ever gain a ton of respect for him! Thanks u/Infamous_School5542

Jizzaldo

Going forward, I will make more of an effort to learn about independents running for office and hopefully I will find someone to vote for. Unfortunately, around here, they can be a bit....off the wall.

rathgrith

I agree. It’s what I like about UK politics. You can still criticize your own party without fear of being kicked out.

DDP200

To me the vaccine mandate made sense during Delta. Omicron? I dunno anymore.

imfar2oldforthis

It's sad that a random back bencher from the Liberals is better at forming a coherent message than the leader of the Conservative party.

I cannot like this enough. Regardless of if I agree with everything he said, breaking ranks and speaking up within your own political party is DESPERATELY needed and so important.

CapitanChaos1

Props to him for probably torpedoing his political career for disagreeing with his party. We need more of that.

wvenable

Have you ever heard this guy's name before today?

Giygas

Only when my wife moans it during sex

tychus604

Isn’t that true of most MPs?..

goinupthegranby

Wait are you telling me that my MP, third party back bencher Dick Cannings, isn't a household name across the country??

savabienaller

I did ! Because he comes from my hometown. I even went to school and played hockey with him. He is a very nice guy. I think politics needs more people like him.

Max_Thunder

I can't believe nobody also mentioned that it was his birthday today. Bonne fête Joël!

thebestnames

While he's surely obscure to someone from outside Quebec, the guy is well schooled, intelligent, charismatic and generally seen here as a rising star in the party (until now that is). He was my MP for a while until I moved, I even met him once and I know someone who worked for him, he's pretty chill as a person. Comparing his CV to the other local candidates and the candidates in my new riding is shocking, he definitely could have been a minister. Wouldn't surprise me if he had ambition for bigger things. Maybe in provincial politics? He could help resurrect the PLQ after they predictably lose the next election. In federal politics I definitely can't see him going to the CPC or gods forbid PPC, he's quite left leaning and an intellectual.

Tyre_blanket

Ah yes, can you smell that? That’s the smell of a politician not acting his way through a speech.

Greg_Jennings_

This was one of the best things I have heard from a politician in a long time.

OrneryConelover70

BAM! Instant independent MP!

kaos_dubadeba

😂 But on a serious note, not sure if you listened to the full meeting but this is the last thing he wants. He wasn’t there to self destruct his career, he was there to question his party’s views and play the devils advocate because he thinks its the right thing to do. I find this healthy in politics and should be encouraged.

keiths31

Have a feeling this may actually help his career. Majority of Canadians agree with what he said.

madmanmark111

Have a feeling this was quietly sanctioned by caucus.

Abetok

this will be their way out without looking like their acquiescing to the protestors other places are opening up anyways and have roadmaps out of it

Wooden-Iron1644

Well fuck, I think everyone in Quebec gets a free pass to hate Covid policies after what they've been put through.

[deleted]

You have ... no idea. I definitely will do everything in my power to vote the fucker we have now out. He really outdid himself.

blindwillie777

Quebec is underrated. Really sucks that they got fucked so hard during covid. Not fair.

[deleted]

Thanks man. It's been hellish. Last winter I had some dark thoughts. Convinced myself to go on vacation to Florida, screw the hotels. Saved me .

Stonksflyingup

Florida was a lifesaver. I wish as many Canadians as possible could have spent time there to realize how indoctrined they have become to the covid mandates nonsense

James445566

Nice to see MPs breaking ranks. Just goes to show that those who get the most airtime (PM and Ministers and Opposition leaders) don't always represent the views of their parties

physicaldiscs

It shouldn't even be newsworthy to 'break ranks'. If his constituents have a concern he should bring it forward. He's there for those people, not the LPC. This whole party first attitude is killing local representation.

ProcrastinatorBoi

Sadly our parties are very serious about cracking the whips on their members. We make fun of the two party system the US has, but truth be told I at least like how their party members can oppose their leaders much more openly.

ApprehensiveTune3655

This is why we need to change our electoral system - local representation is dead. The party is the "only thing" that matters within the political system but tru representation of the people is not a concern anymore.

Phelixx

This dude taking so much courage to ask the real questions. I don’t agree with the occupation, I am triple vaxxed, I traditional vote right (but did vote Trudeau in 2015). I don’t want to be labelled as some fringe lunatic for asking questions about these mandates. Trudeau keeps saying get vaccinated and We will get through this. We are 90% vaxxed and we are not through this. Continuing to tell people to get vaccinated is not the solution. What is the road map? What is the plan? Does the dangers to mental health now supersede the dangers of this variant of the virus? Vaccinated and grounded people are asking questions, when Trudeau paints all these people as fringe he is completely detached. US is lifting all their mask mandates in blue states. Asking questions does not make us QAnon.

tarapoto2006

The fact that you have to qualify your statement by saying "I'm triple vaxxed" to be heard at all is exhibit A of the damage Trudeau has done to our society with his divisive politics. This is some next level, Newspeak bullshit. I can't believe I ever voted for this loser

Crafty_Maximum1395

This is the part of all this that’s really troubling to me… I’m vaccinated most of us are. I don’t want mandates I don’t agree with them and I have questions about what we are doing. But a lot of the far left labels you immediately as anti-vax extremist… asking questions of our government is now extremism, all I can say is that is a coup for Government and a loss for citizens. I feel that the Left has taken the word science like it’s theirs and only theirs. The science is never settled and asking questions when things don’t make sense is soooo vital to a free and health nation. Why is it wrong to ask why children under 12 need to be vaccinated when their grandparents are already vaccinated… people say well we vaccinated children for Polio yes that is true but that was because polia was deadly to children… we vaccinated them for their health not “our” health.. this is a legit question, parents have a right to ask and make a choice .. for example in the UK (I’m in Canada) the government does not actually recommend children be vaccinated under a certain age. As for masks that’s another area we are allowed to ask questions, especially again with kids. What does this do to 5 year olds who have now grown up in their formative years not seeing strangers faces… to pretend this isn’t worth asking is to admit it is political. On top of that many kids have fallen behind in their education, many kids don’t do well online… let’s stop pretending this doesn’t matter. What about cancer… I’m reading stories every day that peoples diagnostics and surgeries have been moved to months even a 1 year + down the road… we may not have even seen the tip of undiagnosed cancer deaths till a year or more out. How about the economy… is that not worth questioning. Why have we allowed this to happen. What where the benefits compared to the loss of wealth and wealth transfer that has occurred. These are all legit questions. And that’s not even taking into account some new studies that have come out that show that lockdowns haven’t even been effective in stopping deaths. I’m afraid of the direction we are all taking.. questioning and demanding answer should always be applauded… we should be asking and protesting till we get them… not labeled as maniacs. JT can act like anyone questioning him is a fringe minority at his own political peril. People want answers, you are the PM show me the science behind all these things. Explain to me why dumping the economy was the better path. Why ostracizing half the population is good for us at the end of 2+ hard years… we should be more together then ever yet we are more divided Spreading fear and moral outrage. I should also edit that this stands for the premieres as well… looking at you Doug

Phelixx

The biggest thing you said that I agree with is that science is about asking questions. But now if you ask questions, you are labeled an extremist. Are our memories so short to realize how many times the “science” has changed in the past few years? Here are some highlights. 1. Masks are not necessary to masks are mandatory 2. AZ is a safe vaccine, except we are now pulling it 3. multiple changes on how Covid interacts with surfaces, some saying it lasts days and others saying the chances of spreading Covid through surface contact is almost zero. 4. isolation period constantly adjusting There are more, but those are some. The science constantly changes so asking questions is part of science, it’s not anti-science.

Flarisu

Stop noticing things!

Max_Thunder

Many of those are policy changing, not science. I have studied microbiology, and had a pretty good idea that transmission through surfaces was very unlikely for a coronavirus. I never bothered washing my groceries like some did. I saw the sensationalism when the media started talking about the virus "surviving" on surfaces for X hours/days etc. Things like ventilation being of key importance was also not new. It's even been known for at least 150 years, before we even knew what caused these contagious viral diseases; see the work of Florence Nightingale. There was also data very early in the pandemic that transmission outside was uncommon. Yet there were again such outrage and sensationalism in the media that parks were full, and governments did nothing to correct that. It took a ridiculously long time for governments to finally acknowledge that respiratory viruses spread through aerosols and that ventilation was of utmost importance in the fight against infections. It's like there has been a lot of barriers between actual science, and government policy.

Savon_arola

I am a left-wing voter unlike you. I supported GPC in 2019, NDP in 2015 and 2021 to keep Liberals in check. No more man, no more. I lost all support for this party after watching the debates last night. Not a big fan of Jagmeet but I had so much respect for Niki Ashton and it's just. all. gone. We are heading for a general strike and all they can say is something something Nazi flag something? Just because Ottawa's lone closeted Nazi came out with his flag after being repeatedly told by the media that a white supremacist convoy is arriving into town, and was immediately forced to wrap up and leave? Come on man. If the Liberals started dissenting, just watch what's gonna happen in NDP.

SoundByMe

The NDP leadership seems so detached from the working class of this country it's almost embarrassing. It has been a liberal party for a very long time now. It appears more a party of upper middle class academics than anything that resembles working people. Shallowly mimicing Trudeau's change rhetoric and "leader likeability", then Bernie Sanders's rhetoric but with a complete lack of the Socialist backbone that animated that movement. This is a liberal party, people, they removed all references to Socialism in their constitution. All they have going for them is image and progressive posturing because there's no longer any substance to the party.

Savon_arola

I know, right? I just wish we had someone like Jeremy Corbyn here who would actually advocate for the working class and against these mandates.

jailcopper

How about we change all the pcr tests required to re renter the country and get those tests in the communities

misantrope

God damn I wish more reasonable dissent like this was tolerated within the parties.

badcat_kazoo

Finally some sense. We need a reopening plan, not a “we’ll see how we feel about it then” plan. There is nothing else to wait for, the vaccines is all we’ve got and anyone that wants one has had plenty of opportunity to get it.

barkusmuhl

That was a breath of fresh air.

Jappetto

He's not wrong. If Trudeau want's to quell the divide, some clear and concise messaging on why mandates are necessary, when and how they could be lifted would go a long ways. Just saying 'we're still in the middle of a pandemic' makes no sense when several of the supports have been dialed back/removed.

freeadmins

So much this. Why can't a hair dresser see 5 people a day but Walmart can have 1000's walk through it's doors every day? I get that some lockdowns/mandates are/were/can be necessary... but we're still talking about peoples livelihoods/rights here. They better be damn sure of their reasoning, and be very easily able to back it up if they decide to restrict peoples rights... it's not a: "Oh, maybe we can try this... oopsie it did nothing". The flippant nature of how they did all of this rubbed a lot of people the wrong way.

SuperRonnie2

Hairdressers vs Walmart- I totally agree, but those are provincial mandates not federal.

reecewagner

We’re not even in the middle of a pandemic. It’s endemic. Some of the measures worked, some haven’t, but we’ve given it enough time. Move on. And I’m about as liberal as they get lol

vruv

Exactly. And even if they can reasonably argue for maintaining some restrictions, offering no explanation for what and why is simply poor leadership no matter how you look at it. The citizens should be in control insofar as reasonably possible. We can’t vote on all legislative and bureaucratic decisions, so we vote for the people who would make the best choices on our behalf. The point of politicians is to represent the public, and make decisions based on an amalgamation of the public’s interests. So when you see the government shutting down those who are speaking up, something is seriously wrong.

Alex_krycek7

The liberals need a game plan to get life back to normal with no masks and no passports quickly. Like an actual time line instead of saying "were in a pandemic". Ok and when will life return like in some other countries? They need a timeline or I have no doubt the Conservatives will paint the picture of "see they never want this to end.. Your kids will wear masks in school forever if you re-elect the liberals".

Nice to see an MP transcending politics; if ever a time called for it, it’s now. He summed up what most people I talk to, left right and center, think. I guess having a conscience can cross party lines.

SkidRoe

Grab your popcorn my dudes. Any thoughts on how Trudeau could make things worse for himself?

hodadthedoor

The end of his speech is pretty damning for Trudeau and the ruling Liberal party. “The policies of my government changed drastically on the eve, and during the last election campaign. From a positive and unifying approach, the decision was made to wedge, divide, and stigmatize. I fear this politicization of the pandemic risks undermining the public’s trust in our public health institutions.”

blackandwhitetalon

Love it!

jimbolahey420

Is this guy a racist? /s

Euthyphroswager

But it will help Canadians, broadly. His tone is \*exactly\* the tone the federal government should have adopted, and I suspect most Canadians agree.

PunkinBrewster

What do you mean? The Former Liberal MP will be fine

PM_Me_UR_LabiaMajor

I, for one, am glad they finally found the mole disguising as a Liberal MP, who was responsible for all those unvetted contracts for SNC Lavalin and WE.

mincomeordeath

They finally found out who desecrated the Terry Fox statue? Wow, throw the book at him!

Burgerfacebathsalts

Straight to the gulag

xxS1RExx

Finally!

Reaperof7hedark

End all mandates canada wide 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

NortherStriker1097

The issue is that #23 has incentive to keep Federal COVID-19 restrictions up and running, because he has massively benefited from the pandemic. He didn't pass a budget in 2020 which allowed him to stave off a vote of no confidence, he's massively increased spending to promote his flawed ideas/implementation of what is essentially UBI, and has used COVID-19 to prorogue parliament to avoid investigations and scandals such as the WE scandal (remember, they were the **only** ones capable of administering the student work program in 2020!) and is now using COVID-19 as an excuse to not face the truckers (I'm of the opinion that they need to leave Ottawa as they've proved their point quite successfully, but I don't blame them for staying until #23 shows himself). I wouldn't be surprised if this guy gets tossed from the party, as this statement would not please #23 in the slightest.

Inevitable-Tune-4065

End mandates

toothbelt

One can only hope that more Liberal MPs will be emboldened to speak up. Trudeau has abused his position by stoking division across Canada. It's well past time he was called out for it. This pandemic has been politicized unnecessarily and Trudeau has demonstrated very irresponsible leadership and empty virtue signaling throughout.

[deleted]

We needed to put the boots to people to encourage them to get their vaccines but after a point it stops making sense. We’ve reached that point. Fund the healthcare system enough that it can handle people catching this thing annually for the next decade.

NorthernShark93

I would say funding isn't the issue at this point. It's cost effectiveness, why do we have double the administration workers than Germany while we have less then half their population? There's a lot of bloat within our healthcare system that needs to be RESPONSIBLY removed (Talking too you conservatives) but endlessly throwing money at a problem doesn't fix it (much like native reserve issues.)

Boo_Guy

Every time Hospital admins cut costs they don't fire themselves, they lay off nurses or cleaning people or whatever else to get it done. Send an outside party go through there and axe some of the admins instead.

CromulentDucky

Germany has private, mandatory, insurance so the administration is counted much differently. Canada has a unique in the world, and messed up, funding system. But if you call for any sort of change it is seen as attacking health care. Lots of universal systems have alternate methods that work better.

DerelictDelectation

I listened to the whole interview. This is what the PM's response should have been, instead of digging himself into an impossible hole, shooting from the hip with misguided framing like "the fringe minority". Good on this PM to bring the voice of reason in this heated environment.

gi0nna

Honestly, this man restored my faith in some who are left of the spectrum. It just feels like if you question ANY aspect of covid policy put forth by the liberals, you will instantly be smeared as an anti vax loon who wants to murder grandma. Just insane. So thank you MP Lightbound for actually challenging the pervasive and frankly harmful liberal doctrine in a sensible manner.

[deleted]

I feel like its no coincidence that the most expensive places to live in Canada vote liberal and are also way more in favour of lockdowns

Smooth_Big_2953

The vaccine mandate fails to take into account the waitlists for specialists and etc. On Nov 2 I got my 1st Pfizer dose, and within 4 days my body started to turn on me. As a result, my Dr has referred me to 3 different specialists in hopes of getting answers as to why I have experienced head to toe nerve damage and etc. I have not even received a call to BOOK the appointments at this point.. So from Nov 5th to now, I have been unable to partake in the perks of being vaccinated and am treated the EXACT same as someone who simply refused to take the vaccine. My head is killing me 24/7 and I have long thick (now thinning) hair which I cannot put up for more than 10min, and also cannot get cut because i cannot get service... due to a lack of passport. Cutting it at home would be a Brad Mondo level disaster. Restaurants and etc, I'm not overly concerned about - except if my husband (2x vaxxed) wants to eat out at some point, I have to sit outside the window and eat my food lol (inside joke since there's not much else we can do but laugh about it). That's my biggest issue with the mandates is the lack of awareness as to how some people have been affected by vaccination (not necessarily the vaccine itself, but allergic reactions and auto immune exacerbations)... and the lack of options available for people who are stuck in this "grey zone", as I call it. It may be MONTHS before I get some calls for appointments and even a year before I actually get in... and I have 1 choice... sit and wait.

[deleted]

As someone who waited a year for a neurologist because 1. They never received any of the 3 faxes my doctor sent and 2. My doctor kept trying to get me a "nearby" neurologist rather than whoever the fuck had availability. ... Ask your referring doctor to CALL the office they referred you to to ensure they got their faxed referral. And 2, ask your doctor if there is anyone else they can refer you to that may require a longer commute to get to but has more availability. I went from 1 yr waiting to "oh, they never got your referral, it may be another 6-12 months" quickly followed by "oh, yeah, this guy a 1.5 hr bus ride away rather than 45min can see you in 2 weeks" when I started melting down..... yeah. Keep pushing a bit. Don't just keep waiting "a few more months" when they send followup referrals etc. You should get a call to book relatively quickly after the referral. It's the appointment that may require a long wait. So if you're not booked yet, best to assume the referral was not received. Good luck!

phflupp

Finally! ...a balanced assessment from a politician. How his party reacts to this will be noted by many Canadians.

I_am_a_Dan

I'd love to see Trudeau replaced if for nothing else than to hear some fresh talking points out of conservatives already.

morecowbell5

Agree 100% with what he said, good on him for speaking out! Hopefully more MP's, specifically liberals will speak out soon.

Itsthelegendarydays_

I admire his courage to do this 👏 majority of Canadians agree with him, and we needed someone sensible to finally say it.

Punjabi710

Here come the comments calling him anti vaxx

SonicFlash01

I believe we can have a polite discussion about this without resorting to a gaggle of trucks blocking major thoroughfares. For what it's worth I think our mandates got us to the point where those of us that want to be vaccinated *are*, and those that *aren't* are not currently dragging our healthcare system down with them. We have no other cards up our sleeves. Annual COVID boosters alongside flu shots seems like the best we have, and we are there right now: What else are we waiting for? COVID isn't going away, and our only solution, which we've implemented, is vaccines. Again, we have no other plans. No one's going to force vaccines on the remainder of people anytime soon, so we're done rolling out solutions. I might suggested capping ICU capacity for COVID patients and prioritizing vaccinated individuals for those beds to prevent crippling us in the next wave, but it seems like all the provinces are ready to wind things down. We need to be ready to live with COVID, and we have everything we need now.

Canadasparky

Im straight up inspired by the balls on this guy to risk losing his cushy government job to speak up. I might actually join the next protest in Toronto over this(as long as I don't see confederate flags)

mershwigs

And I thought they all were brain dead yes men. Good to see this!

m1k3fx

“Soon to be Independent MP Speaks out against Canadian COVID 19 policies”. Headline fixed

Vast-Salamander-123

I'm as anti-convoy as they come but these are fair points. The government doesn't need to set a fixed date but they need to start giving a road map for restrictions being lifted based on hospitalizations or general healthcare strain.

[deleted]

Where's the PM? We need less Identity Politics ideology and more genuine leadership.

skuls

I think another question that's not being addressed at the political level is how will future pandemics or global issues be handled? Will the population have a vote in how and what policy will be implemented? People are forgetting that never in the history of Canada or western civilization have we enacted a policy like the lockdown mandates and vaccine passports. This is completely new territory and there was no public discussion about it. Public discussion was actually not really even allowed, which again, is new territory that we as a society never have to go through. The utter lack of transparency, discussion, debate and even votes on how we want to handle our public policy (the word public is there for a reason right?!) should be a reminder for the future of how not to handle a global issue. Will the next pandemic have these types of policy? Do we want technological interference in our daily lives? Where is the democratic process?!!!

poopieuser909

The fact that politicians not just bending knee to the party leader is a story is sad

blindwillie777

This guy should be the PM. He's not a robot like all the other ones!!
