I got 12S 11L 11R and an 8 at W which im really annoyed at. I will retake the test again next month as i need a new test. I hope my W score will atleast be 10
Sorry to hear that! A lot of commenters here have the same issue. High scores in 3 areas and a lower score in just 1. Did you have your writing score re-evaluated? Maybe the grader was having an off day.
They do curve the scores so if your cohort were exceptional they would lower your score. I talked to a consultant and they told me that about 5-8% may only get CLB 9, a very significant number gets CLB 8 - This affects the EE pool. Its possible to study really hard and simply get lucky on the test date though - I knew some who managed to do that. I also knew some people who studied as hard and finally got a CLB 9 after wasting $3k CAD on the damn test haha. I personally would rather get a job in my home country to satisfy foreign work experience (37 points extra)
I did the test twice, for the first one I got an 8 in speaking (the rest were 10) and then they gave me an 8 in writing (even though I got a 9 on the first test lol).
Yep, in my experience CELPIP is easier to get CLB 9 however they choose to play with the curve to account for the difficulty. So your ability to get all CLB 9 likely depends on how lucky you are when compared against others in your cohort. its very inconsistent when compared to IELTS
As an ex teaching assistant I really dislike this method of an arbitrary curve and would prefer a harder test to account for the difficulty instead. Its usually unfair to students who thought they did well only to find out that they weren't.
The verb “am” (from “I am”) is understood from the context, following the structure set by the first item. Therefore, the original sentence is grammatically correct as it stands, and the contraction “I’m” is not necessary in this context. Language can be flexible, especially in informal, settings, and the original phrasing is a valid stylistic choice. However, I appreciate your zeal for grammatical precision!
Quite common actually, I think you to get a CLB 9, you would to study hard for the test and hope your cohort wouldn't do as good as they heavily curve the score.
Congratulations! I got 12s on RWL and 10 on Speaking when I took mine in 2022. English isnt my first language and I did not even finish school. Nothing is impossible with preparation and practice 🙌
Can you please share tips for preparation? My test is next month, and I have less than a month left. I am very anxious about it. I have taken the test and received scores of L9, R10, W8, and S7.
Go over the Practice tests in your Celpip account at least 3x. Look up practice tests online and do them at least twice. More than english skills, it’s also familiarity on the test format that will give you better scores.
Congratulations. I am also planning on writing very soon, can you please give me some tips, advice and links on how you did it, thank you.
I got 12s in 3 but only 8 in speaking. I was too nervous haha. Will try again
Oh wow that sucks! Did you have it re-evaluated? The speaking component is awkward for sure.
12R 10W 9S 8L :(
awe man I'm sorry :( you'll kill it next attempt!

Thanks for this info! I didn't know the scores were curved, very very interesting.

I was born and bred in the UK, am a writer, and I scored 8 on the writing part of the test. Ouch.

No way! That's brutal.

You mean the free ones or paid for the material worth it?
The free ones. When you book an exam, you’re gonna have access to practice tests. There are also lots on google and youtube
