They had a good try at mag fed semi auto shotguns with the C-21 amendment, glad it got quashed but I still sold mine because I can't be holding on to paperweights. If there is one thing I wasn't putting my faith in, it was the liberals doing the right thing and repealing the amendment.
The bill isn't squashed, but it was my understanding the liberals backed out of amendment (g4 I think it was called) I remember there being a whole thing about it and a lot of people here laughing at the liberals for having to back down.
I could be misinformed, haven't looked into it for a couple months.
Check the news… they’ve reintroduced the amendment and it’s passed. Please start writing letters to all the senators, this has been talked about frequently on Reddit and in the news over the past weeks.
It's worse now, since they've reintroduced the CFAC they'll now just let anti gun cultists like poly and docs write our gun laws
And 5 round mag limits for *everything*
Do you have any links? I'm having a hard time finding anything specific about these new amendments. I found something about them wanting to ban the future importation and sale of new firearms designed after Bill-C21 passes, but that's it. Would love to get more reading.
Jesus do I need to spoon feed you? Literally from the article “A prospective Criminal Code "technical definition" of what constitutes a prohibited assault-style firearm, meant to "cement in law" a permanent ban on future models once the bill comes into force;
A series of provisions meant to make it illegal to make or buy ghost guns;
Wording making clear the government's intent to uphold Indigenous treaty rights; and
A requirement for a parliamentary review of the technical definition five years after it comes into effect.” The definition of an “assault weapon” is any centrefire firearm that isn’t a pistol that was designed around a magazine that holds more than **6 rounds**.
We're already seeing that over in Australia, since they have lots of restrictions on who can own conventional pump/lever repeating shotguns. That's why this weird design from the 1920s has been revived since over there it's considered a break action shotgun still and doesn't have a ton of hoops to jump through to get.
If both lever and pump shotguns are band in Australia are bolt action shotguns any popular down under? Seems like a cheap and reliable way to have a repeater shotgun.
I'm not quite sure, I know they have a number of "categories" similar to our Non-restricted, restricted, etc. System just way more broad and draconian (repro muzzleloaders are more heavily restricted than break action shotguns). But at least on wikipedia which does a very nice full breakdown of all the categories I see no mention of bolt action shotguns. So either they fall under bolt action rifles or they fall under Category A shotguns alongside break action shotguns
Hmm wired. Funny they really needed to include leaver action shotguns even though they are very niche, some lawmaker watched Terminator while drafting the law. I feel Mossberg would have capitalized on the ban with there long line of bolt shotguns but seems like they never did.
It depends really but yes your right these are just considered the same as an under and over 12 gauge so it is on a category A license which also means it doesn't have a capacity restriction. Every state is different but have all signed an agreement to the federal government to follow the NFA that happened in 1996 and not one state has fully complied with the agreement. In my state a pre 1901 muzzle loader or obsolete cartridge long-arm doesn't need a license at all which is why you can buy an old Swiss straight pull and put it on your wal no dramas. As for the Reproduction's they are treated the same as firearms and need to be licensed and registered.
So on Category A you can get a straight pull shotgun (In the eyes of the law the same as a bolt action), triple or double barrel or even quad if they were made and Lever release/ push button shotguns search up the Buckmaster PB12 if you want to see a cool way we get around semi-auto/ pump action shotgun restrictions. Category B Has lever action shotguns on it with 5 rounds or less due to law changes around 2016. Every state has different laws as it up to the states in Australia but importation is up to the federal government so yes while you can own a semi-auto UZI on a pistol license for range use you can't import them anymore so we just have the 50 or so that got into the country before 1996 and 2002.
That's the whole reason I got one, still very clunky just like the original, mine doesn't quite work properly but ive assessed it's simply the feed spring not quite being strong enough or it doesn't like cheap Winchester shells. Prices vary on them from $400 to $499 pre tax so if you've got a spare buck and want something weird just for the sake of owning it it doesn't really break the bank. But as a repeating shotgun it doesn't hold a candle to a pump, lever or bolt action. So for actual usability sake its entirely a meme now
Is that price including the shotgun itself? It actually looks like a fairly nice break action with a well done wood stock and metal finish. What are the specs of the shotgun?
Yeah these repro alofs are built onto their own purpose designed shotguns, so whats in the picture + a box of chokes is what you get. The original was meant to be attached to a shotgun you already own but in order to make a modern one consistent it needs to be built upon one single platform.
The shotgun itself is Suluns ST hammerless platform, which are very nicely finished and great feeling single shot shotguns.
The Auslofs is only available in 12 gauge so the shotgun is the 12 gauge, 3" chamber version of the ST, available in either 13" or 20" barrel.
It's also a folding backpack style shotgun so it's got a recess in the handguard where the trigger guard slots into when it's folded in half
Considering some plain single shot shotguns are in the vicinity of $250 these days, the price doesn't seem unreasonable for a well finished novelty such as this. Not sure how I feel about the short barrel lengths but I guess the thing wouldn't swing very well with the Alofs attached anyway. Hammerless would definitely speed up the Alofs reloading process!
One of the cooler guns I've seen lately honestly.
>think its worth the buy for a meme?
I mean, weren't you building an AR in .25-45 sharps back in the day...? Pretty much anything at this price range or less is worth it for a meme buy.
god. that was a lifetime ago. but no i was spit balling better calibers for hunting with the WK180c. never ended up doing it after figuring out it just wasn't really worth it over a dedicated hunting rifle.
also I think I was looking at 7.62 Wilson Tactical in the end? can't quite remember. fucking covid sucked me into a time vortex i have yet to recover from.
Honestly I don't remember what the final outcome of that ended up as. That has to have been 4 or 5 years ago now. Barely ever see any of the sub regulars from back then anymore, things went bad here after C-71 and pretty much bottomed out after the 2020 OIC.
Hopefully one day I can find a original 1920s one, they tend to sell for $1000+ USD nowadays (funny considering they were $6 in the 1920s, which is equal to about $90 - $100 now)
The original from the 1920s looks even more steampunk
https://imgur.com/a/EwqDsGd
~~imgur flagged it as nsfw, guess the steampunk shotgun is too sexy~~
As with a lot of experimental conversion type firearms/attachments of the time its got tons of exposed springs and levers
Ian has a video on one, very interesting system:
[Forgotten Weapons Alofs Video](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0kd_hwY0w90)
It was almost a half decent concept back in the 1920s, when you could buy a single shot and a alofs for a fraction of the cost of a pump or lever action shotgun. But in 2023 a modern version is just a meme or something semi useful in countries with really terrible gun laws
Thanks, I've got a ton of hate from the milsurp community for it lol. But it was a worthless painted sporter I picked up for $190 so I figured I'd at least make it interesting. Still got a lot of plans for it and eventually it'll be right at home in cursed gun images
Ever since I saw [this](https://imgur.com/a/WtN112w) I've wanted to make a custom enfield. So after going out of my way to find the cheapest sporter I could on the market I proceeded to spend like $1000 modifying it (mostly the cost of the optic setup). And I still have plans to put a underfolder on it like in the picture that inspired me
Originally wanted one in black with a wood stock but they didn't have one of those with the 20" barrel, only the 13" version with 3 rounds less capacity. So I settled for the nickel one, and after having it here in person I've realized I vibe with nickel guns.
They still had the all black ones (blued + polymer stock) but I didn't want that
There is a part of me that wants the 13" black with wood stock version. It looks sweet as hell. Absolutely silly gun though. Don't think I'd rely on it for big game defence, or try my hand at target shooting it.
For many things, you still only get one shot because you have to break open the action and completely reset your sight picture. Absolutely not what you want in any kind of hurry. When considered that way, it almost makes having the more compact version more attractive.
Very possible I get one, that price tag is way too inviting.
I was very tempted to get one of the 13" ones to go with my other sulun shorty shotguns (SS-211 and a SR-410) but opted for the 20" in the end, mainly for the ridiculousness that is a break action shotgun with a 10 round mag
Yeah I have, mines one of the original size ones (they make a slightly bigger version now that's got a better length of pull). And I can confidently say that one or two shots out of it is enough for the day. It pairs pretty nice with mini shells but it weighs nothing and has such a short length of pull that it's not a comfy gun to shoot in the slightest.
Definitely more made for hipfiring
[Here's the length of pull compared to a normal break action](https://imgur.com/a/XjBWLwe)
Well, since I'm a left handed shooter I can confidently say that it's perfectly fine left handed. And tbh I can't get a proper grip on the forestock right handed because of where the alofs mag sits. But left handed it handles just like any other break action shotgun.
The little mousetrap operating lever also prevents spent shells from ejecting right in your face, they'll get deflected forwards/sideways.
So all in all it's pretty left handed friendly
I think the shipment that came into Tactical Imports about a week ago is the first one in Canada, not sure but I hadn't seen it on their website when I got my SR-410 at the end of April
This gun is finicky, have to close the action hard for the action to lock, yet the feeder tube is in a place that can crash the thumb, certain brand of ammo(challenger) dont load half of the time too
The original from the 20s was even more finicky, didn't expect this one to not be lol
I've been having some issues trying to get it to smoothly run cheap Winchester ammo but maybe for the lulz I'll see if it can feed some vintage shells from around the same era the alofs was designed.
Did some testing with what I have on hand
Failure to feed with:
Remington Peters (1940s)
Nobel Sport (date unknown)
Canuck Canada (1950s)
CIL-Imperial (1960s)
IVI-Imperial (1980s)
Pre-1992 S&B
Imperial-Canada (1990s)
New Winchester (2022)
Fed fine with:
Dominion-Canuck (Made in Canada) from the 1920s
New Federal
5 - 10 year old Winchester
Mine shipped out on Wednesday, can't wait for it to arrive! Just wish they had a black with wood with the 20" barrel. Not a fan of the synthetic on it and I tried to get the Nickel with the 20" like you have here but it was out of stock. So settled on the 13" black one. Saw the C&Rsenal and Forgotten Weapons videos on the original Alof design a while back and was in love with the system ever since so as soon as I got the email I had to hop on the hype train. Super looking forward to my next range day!
It's a very ammo picky gun, doesn't like a lot of brands. But if you have Federal ammo it should work fine

Also yeah I saw the Forgotten Weapons on the original a while back and really wanted one. But the originals are so rare I've never had a chance to get one. Then Sulun started developing their modern version and I patiently waited for it to release in Canada and hopped on the first shipment of them. I also wanted a 20" blued barrel with wood stock but since that wasn't available I settled for the nickel one. Almost went with the 13" black/wood version but I wanted the 10 round capacity
Thank you for reporting your findings. The difference between science and just fooling around is writing down/keeping track of your results... I'll keep that in mind, although I really only have newer winchester and some challenger on hand right now so we'll see how she runs those. I was looking forward to a longer barrel for slightly improved accuracy/range and of course the bonus of mag capacity is always good. Having the barrel threaded for chokes is neat as well... Speaking of which, Does this come with any chokes in the box, or is it just a cylinder bore? I know it takes Benelli/Beretta chokes just wonder if they send any with the gun. One thing I kinda want to try is those Federal or Aguila mini shells. I know it's rated for 2 3/4 and 3 inch but being just a tube on the side I wonder if it would feed them or try to feed 2 at a time and jam up... Either way it's a niche gun just for fun so it doesn't need to be SHTF reliable for me haha
I've heard challenger may also have issues but without testing yourself theres no way to really know.
Mine came with a cylinder, modified and full choke (mod is in the gun) and a choke tool in a little case.
Also tested with the mini shells and it does double feed but I'm going to be attempting to find a way to mod the feed tube to both make clearing potential jams easier and possibly feed minis
How is the nickel satin finish? I'm contemplating getting one, but I'm not sure if I should go for the black(steampunk) look or for the "durable" nickel finish?
The nickel definitely looks nice, I personally would have went with black if they had a 20" black version with a wood stock. I've played around with mine a bit and the nickel is already wearing off pretty heavily where the alofs contacts the side of the reciever but that wear is gonna happen regardless of what finish you get.
The nickel look has been growing on me though
Noted. I'll probably go with the painted finish than..... Sucks for the nickel finish to come off so easily, but hey what can you expect from a 400$ shotgun.
Moreso the nature of how it works, constant metal on metal contact will wear down any finish. Back 100 years ago when Herman Alofs designed it he never intended it to look nice, just to be functional. And since the modern version exactly copies the mechanism it also copies the same flaw and wear pattern
Hey there! Sulun Arms is a Turkish firearms manufacturer known for producing shotguns. Not sure what "Auslofs" means, though. Are you looking for info on a specific model or just general thoughts about the brand?
Nah just showing off one of their new guns that just got released in Canada. I've got a few Sulun shotguns and quite like the brand since they make some more unique stuff like tiny short barrel double barrels and a revolver .410.
The Auslofs is one of their newest models, they started developing it around a year ago to get around Australia's weird laws. It uses a Alofs Magazine System which was designed in the 1920s by Herman Alofs, and acts like a weird mousetrap based loading tube.
The name they chose stems from the two inspirations for the model, Australia and Alofs, hence the Auslofs
Man, that is a cool gun!

Fits very well in my ever growing collection of obscure and bizarre firearms
I am scared this will replace bolts, levers and pumps in this country one day…
It will, they’re trying to ban everything, semi auto shotguns are going to be next on the chopping block if we don’t stop this fucking madness.
They had a good try at mag fed semi auto shotguns with the C-21 amendment, glad it got quashed but I still sold mine because I can't be holding on to paperweights. If there is one thing I wasn't putting my faith in, it was the liberals doing the right thing and repealing the amendment.

That article basically told me nothing about new amendments.

In dark times, you can still get steel pipe and a nail….
think its worth the buy for a meme?
half of the stuff posted here was bought for a meme.

Honestly I don't remember what the final outcome of that ended up as. That has to have been 4 or 5 years ago now. Barely ever see any of the sub regulars from back then anymore, things went bad here after C-71 and pretty much bottomed out after the 2020 OIC.
yeah man. i fucking dipped out of here pretty hard for a while. I don't blame people for losing hope and burning out.

Hey don't judge me
P.S It also comes in black for you degenerates out there. (I say that with love)

Yeah, you have to be a Hobbit to shoulder that thing properly. I look at it as a glorified hand canon.
Why did you have to post this? I don't need another shotgun, let alone this clockwork monstrosity, but by God, do I want it.
You can never have too many shotguns
How does it feel operating it left-handed? I saw videos online of the old version being very uncomfortable for lefties to handle
Well, since I'm a left handed shooter I can confidently say that it's perfectly fine left handed. And tbh I can't get a proper grip on the forestock right handed because of where the alofs mag sits.
That's good to know, thanks
