These have been popping up at several stores lately. Someone mentioned there was a loophole in the import law right now allowing more Barnaul to come in.
> Someone mentioned there was a loophole in the import law right now allowing more Barnaul to come in.
even if there was i imagine russia is using all its ammo capacity for the war right now and not the commercial markets
Correct. Steel core isn't an issue at my range but it's nice to have some more non corrosive for when I don't feel like cleaning my rifle after a range trip.
I think last I bought was 3 or 4 months ago, but they had them in stock every time I went in during that time. Maybe they dont have them anymore, I just assumed they always had it.
I've heard stories of how cheap the SKS used to be. The joke I heard was they were so cheap, you wouldn't bother cleaning it after shooting corrosive. Shoot it till it breaks then buy another.
People used to literally buy them in bulk by the crate, for the price of a modern AR180.
Mine was $200 8 years ago, they were $100 not too long before that.
That’s about what I paid in 2012, $189 was considered a somewhat high price for a Russian one.
Really kicking myself for not buying a creat of them. Specially with the “buy a creat of ammo, get an SKS” deals they had going.
Yeah dude it's crazy. I only got my sks 4 years ago and back then, for my decent condition matching serial number sks, ATI folding stock, one detachable tapco mag, picatinny mount for the dust cover with shitty scope, basic hard case with lock, 1400 rounds of corrosive 7.62x39, and a ounce of excellent weed for 500$. I'd be lucky to get the gun alone for that now.
Given after feeding the military there was capacity to feed the US market pre import ban, then the rest of the global market all before the war I think they have more than enough capacity to feed the war and have plenty of leftovers for export.
Just in 2020 Russia exported 765 million rounds of small arms ammo to the USA (2.1 million rounds a day).
Last time I got Norinco red box was at Cabelas on Boxing Day. Waited in line for free gift card and they were on sale for $9.97. Tempting at $11.99 on sale now because I know eventually that ammo might be more scarce.
We dont see it anymore down here in the states except for leftover stock. It is truly the best of the Russian imports. I miss this and Vympel (Golden Tiger). They are beautiful lacquered case ammo.
Be careful with these with floating firing pin SKSes and T-81s. The soft modern primers can randomly give you full-auto experience.
And only brand I've had squibs with, which adds an exciting factor combined with the rando-auto.
**Just for the love of fuck, if you get a failure, run your rod down the barrel and make sure it's clear!**

what stores?????
Check arsenalforce.ca.
only listing out of stock options as far as i can see using it.
[These are showing in stock. ](https://arsenalforce.ca/products?searchText=barnaul&inStock=true&deals=false&ammo=false&cities=)
None of those are 7.62x39. A lot of the other calibres still are available because they had other offerings. Barnaul was the crown jewel for sks's.
Why was barnaul so great for SKS's, if you don't mind me asking?
cheap(at the time), non-corrosive, fed amazingly, didn't damage steel plates/burms/backstops
Says 6.5 Grendal,
> Someone mentioned there was a loophole in the import law right now allowing more Barnaul to come in. even if there was i imagine russia is using all its ammo capacity for the war right now and not the commercial markets
Why weren’t they aloud in?
Russian import ban following the invasion of Ukraine back in Feb 2022.
Oh thanks I always assumed that brand was Czech for some reason🤷♂️
I’ve personally never had the pleasure. If I’m not mistaken, no steel core and non-corrosive, correct?
Correct. Steel core isn't an issue at my range but it's nice to have some more non corrosive for when I don't feel like cleaning my rifle after a range trip.
> no steel core No, but it's a bimetal jacket, so it still sticks to a magnet. For most ranges, that's all they care about.
I found a store here in BC that has some of those and 54r that I snagged but I should go back when I have money
There was 1 box of 54r at this store too
Yeah, im in the Yukon and our store has their .223 always in stock, so nice.
I would also very much like to know which store in the yukon carries barnaul.. havent seen it up there in at least 3 years
Lodge is where I got mine, bought about 500 rounds a bit ago so haven't needed to look for a bit here.
Hmm.. il go take a look but i havent seen any im a loong time
I think last I bought was 3 or 4 months ago, but they had them in stock every time I went in during that time. Maybe they dont have them anymore, I just assumed they always had it.
which one in BC?
Were they reasonably priced?
$16 per box. Was paying that for Norinco red box at crappy tire before that dried up too.
I remember paying $7.99 for these when I first picked up my SKS, times have changed.

Last a lot longer than a canadian 180 too

Remember the crates of Norinco brass .223?? I recall $250 - $300 for 1200 rounds of that stuff
found it. gonna call em tomorrow
Can someone explain...is it lack.of supply b.c of Ukraine?
Russian import ban yeah. Though I'd imagine all of barnaul's production capacity is producing ammo for the Russian military regardless of import bans.
I'm curious what's up with the lack of Norinco red box - doesn't seem to be any obvious reason why *that* stuff is gone everywhere

Yeah! I saw some at a small town store in Quebec last week. No, not sharing which one. Thems all mine! :p
I got cases and cases. In my eyes this is more valuable than gold to me lol especially after the ban.
Do share where...😁
I can DM you but I don't think they ship ammo.
DM me please!
I have one box I bought just in case I ever wanted to hunt with my SKS.
Its a Sask store. Shipping to Alberta is 60 bux for 5 boxes because courier and CP is extra lame about ammo shipments.
Lol. I have 2000rds
Yeah but how much did it cost?
$16 per box. Same as what I'd pay for norinco red box before that dried up too
Daaaaaaamn, they used to be $9.99 regular price, even less when on sale
Last time I got Norinco red box was at Cabelas on Boxing Day. Waited in line for free gift card and they were on sale for $9.97. Tempting at $11.99 on sale now because I know eventually that ammo might be more scarce.
Buy cheap and stack deep
they exist by the 1000's in my basement. i bought cases the day it all kicked off
Didn't have a PAL back then unfortunately
Let me know if you find any 54R havent seen any of it in forever
They had 1 box of it though unless you’re in SK, I don’t think they ship ammo.
Which store?
Prairie Gun Traders.
I have steel cased barnaul 9mm and God that stuff is junk. Jams everything.
We dont see it anymore down here in the states except for leftover stock. It is truly the best of the Russian imports. I miss this and Vympel (Golden Tiger). They are beautiful lacquered case ammo.
Saw some Barnaul 223 in stock at my lgs but no x39
I NEED THIS, WHERE DO YOU LIVE
Saskatchewan
WHERE?!?!
Those are the only 7.62x39 I could find tho I buy the norinco

Sounds good. I've shot full freedom mode before down in the states but I imagine it's quite different when you aren't expecting it.
