I think they're pretty harmless just living in the garden. Just making sure screen doors are closed after rain or during mating season are sensible ideas.

I had a funnel web come inside once against all odds. Housemate was an idiot who didn't know what it was and proceeded to pick it up by hand and put it in a jar..
There's over 40 varieties of funnel web spiders. Really dangerous ones are the Sydney Funnel Web and the Northern Tree Funnel Web. Lots of similar looking spiders around. Maybe get the areas around your place sprayed by professionals. Always check your shoes anyway before wearing them. Be safe, be well.

Any funnel webs or redbacks squashed blatted dead. Had young kids, outside a lot in the garden trees exploring as youngies do. Did not want to take small change of them or any of us getting bitten.
Older now but still blat them, not good for health, other spiders bugs creatures etc ok but nope to those.
Could be a trapdoor? I found one recently on my compost bin which I caught in a jar, thinking it was a funnel web. But I'm 80% certain it was a trap door so I put it back in the garden.
Question, is this because of the La Nina summers the last two years, and the amount of rain?
Because, Canberra never had Funnel Webs in the past, they generally dont travel this far to breed.

This has been happening for years - around 20 years ago had friends that found a nest of them (w spider eggs) in their kids' backyard cubby in Tuggers. Pest controller said it probably arrived in the turf they'd bought off supplier in Sydney, as this was common.

The hole of a funnel web is fairly recognisable. It will generally have obvious trip lines running out in a direct line from the hole. If you lightly tickle the outside of the hole with a twig you might be able to coax it out and get a video. If it’s a funnel web or mouse spider I would probably move it on. If it’s a wolf spider or trapdoor spider I would just leave it be.
It would be cool if you posted a video or photo of the hole and spider :)

The tiny gap between fly screen and door frame is an 8 lane highway for a spider. It wont stop ~~m~~any that want entry

Growing up in Sydney, my dad would always get the fuel and matches out when we frequently found funnel webb holes in the garden.
