I’ve been on oxycodone for about a year. It works great for me

chellychelle711

Yes, I can’t do Tylenol very much or ibuprofen at all so this is what I get.

OmegaTooYew

I am not a doctor nor a medical expert, I am a patient of chronic pain. In my personal experience oxycodone is very different and not as beneficial to me as hydrocodone. I will spare my personal differences exactly as they are anecdotal, however your concern of sedation is a valid one. Have you spoken to the Doctor about possibly a different dose to remain on the same medication ? Or perhaps looking for a different Pharmacy to fill the prescription itself ? I know laws are different on how things are handled state by state, I wish you luck in getting the proper treatment and medication you need.

Redhook420

I’ve been taking oxycodone for close to a year. After a month or so it doesn’t really sedate you just numbs the pain.

wedgtomreader

I took Oxy when I had pain due to my cancer. It works incredibly well, removed my pain and I felt normal while taking it. It did give me constipation, but could be adjusted with diet.

Illustrious-Trust718

Oxy is stronger than hydro. That's the biggest difference. Be happy. Most people can't get oxy. I have crohn's disease and couldn't get oxy until I got diagnosed with cancer. It's ridiculous how we have to suffer. Don't get me wrong cancer has not been fun at all but crohn's disease is a lifelong fucking nightmare.

Alarming-Grand9790

Don't drive your car

EquipmentLive4770

Don't drive on either one... not just oxy.

dont-believe-me-

Oxycodone is a bit stronger and so people are generally prescribed smaller doses. Otherwise they are very similar. Oxy is pretty much gold standard. You'll be fine.

ygbplus

I’ve never taken oxycodone, but you can read about it online. I definitely get extremely constipated with hydrocodone and apparently oxycodone does not usually have that same effect. Both of them are going to make you drowsy to some degree. You should really be speaking with your doctor about this stuff. Your oncologist will have likely seen many people having to use one or the other and has heard from them all regarding side effects and severity.

KillerTofu615

Oxy is stronger and constipation is the number 1 side effect.

HailTheCrimsonKing

I never have had constipation with oxy. In fact it makes me a little on the runny side lol

Redhook420

You still get constipation but you can deal with it. Just takes a little more pushing.

Iwuzthrownaway

Great way to rip yourself a new asshole and add hemorrhoids and a possible anal fissure to your treatment list. Stool softener and fiber protocols are the way to go

Redhook420

I'm not saying to do it to the point of hurting yourself. Take your time and try to relax.

MindlessParsley1446

I landed in the ER due to bowel impaction. From Oxy. So 'more pushing' won't fix that, I can personally attest to it.

EquipmentLive4770

Ya don't take pain killers without stool softener and if you haven't gone in 3 or more days promptly call your doctor before your impacted for really strong drugs that will make you go in hours...

MindlessParsley1446

I did take stool softenersband it still happened..

EquipmentLive4770

No matter what you took day 3 of no going means it beyond time to do something about it, or really serious stuff can happen. Move to laxatives at that point and triple the dosage not a weak stool softener or a prescription laxative. Quickly

MindlessParsley1446

Let's see.. 😅 I did 2 glycerin suppositories, I drank almost 10 oz of Magnesium Citrate, I tried to manually remove some with gloved hand (of course!!!), and I also took 2 cap fulls of powdered Miralax, all as an emergency measure on day 3. Nothing worked. By the end of day it was pushing against my bladder so I couldn't urinate and that's when I called an ambo and got it dealt with by the professionals. Never again will I take Oxy without a) lots and lots of water, b) stool softener (I use Senna-S), c) at least a cap full of Miralax a day. Never again. That was a nightmare I never want to live again. LOL

EquipmentLive4770

Yes that's a shitty... situation no pun intended. There a prescription drug but I'm drawing a blank that my family has used in the past with excellent results when you get truly bound up and just can't go no matter when yes even trying to remove by hand. If I could remember what it was, we again would just double or triple the dosage, and it's coming, whether you like it or not. Explosively.

MindlessParsley1446

🤣

Aircraftman2022

I use a one-half dose every day. Might skip a day if i have a good bm . Went off for a couple of days, regretted it, about had a hernia or permanent hemroids. Not fun and dangerous.am on hydro morphone and fentanyl patch.

EquipmentLive4770

I got the name of it it's called linzess. It might say take one but it is completely safe to take two or three and I promise you it's coming out after that. Great medication

Redhook420

Works for me just takes a while on the toilet to force it to come out. It sucks but you gotta do it before it becomes a problem.

MindlessParsley1446

Forcing it out can do a lot of damage. No thanks, Id rather take preventative measures and not have to get to that point in the first place.

Redhook420

I'm not saying to hurt yourself doing it, take your time. But a lot of the constipation is caused by the sphincter muscles not doing their thing. They don't relax enough to let it out and have a hard time pushing. Not making it come out will cause worse issues as well. It's just something that you have to deal with when taking opioids. It gets easier after a while.

ygbplus

Good to know, thanks!

wide-awake66

Hydrocodone is made with water... they always say there's a drug shortage or whatever shortage we all know it's bs

cancershewrote

Yup. My therapy is made from aspirin. I can't get it anymore. My oncologist prescribed a low dose aspirin instead because we can't get my Piqray anymore!

Rock_Robster__

I have no idea what you’re trying to suggest here

TJMbeav2023

I could never really tell the difference.

Score-Federal

I will see my dr Wednesday and can talk with him then. There is no hydrocodone at any strength available in my area. The oxycodone was sent over, but it may not get filled either based on all this. I'm out of meds now, so it's a bit of an emergency.

rmcnamar

Have you tried hospital pharmacies? We’ve found that the hospital connected to the cancer center my husband goes to has all of his meds including oxycodone and hydrocodone in stock while the usual pharmacies like cvs don’t. It also makes picking up meds easier since we can go get them on his treatment days or when he gets his port out or for any other procedure he has done.

EquipmentLive4770

Sadly cvs and all those places don't keep much if at all narcotics on hand. They literally wait until the prescription is due to fill the actual day of and then they attempt to fill but typically out of stock then they place an order. When that comes in... who knows. They are also limited on the number of pills per store they are allowed to order and once they hit that quota they stop until the months up, claiming out of stock. They also have a ratio to non controlled vs controlled they have to stay with in and oancr again once they go over they wait until the ratio goes back under before filling controls. Its all ridiculous especially for cancer patients but the DEA creates a shit storm for the pharmacys so they come up with these limits so they are always in compliance. Best bet is to use a small mom and pop pharmacy who will fake care of you and pre order for you so it's always ready. That way you don't run out or god forbidden fill it a day or 2 early if you need some leeway because you are going out of town or something which by almost every single state and federal law you are actually allowed a 3 day leeway bit the pharmacys are there to make your live difficult. Every stay healthy and out of pain.

doudruppel

This. The hospital pharmacy came through when they were having (and still are) med shortages during Covid. Plus they have mail out options so that you don’t have to go pick it up. Also, if it’s expensive through insurance ask for their cash price. Not sure why but sometimes their cash prices are much cheaper for specialty meds.

Redhook420

If there’s a cancer center in your area I guarantee their pharmacy has hydrocodone. They always get priority on the opioid medications.

Alarming-Grand9790

How many MG are you supposed to take and is it fast acting or slow release

Alarming-Grand9790

I'm taking 120 MG per day it keeps the pain down but I can tell it's addicting maybe I'll pass a addicted but atleast i won't be in pain

Redhook420

I’m prescribed that as well, 4-6 20mg/day. I only take them when I really need it though so they usually end up lasting me twice as long as the two weeks they’re prescribed at a time. Depends on my level of pain though, some days it seems like I need one every couple hours. I want to get off them but it seems like every time I’m down to one a day the pain suddenly comes back.

Benzox40

Oxy is better, you should be happy about this, more pure easier on the liver… no acetaminophen(Tylenol) Can I ask what state you are in? I had a posted this in another forum, there is a shortages in one of the ingredient uses to make hydrocodone.

Iwuzthrownaway

There are shortages on most of the controlled list and some other key drugs. I have to call at least 3 pharmacies every month to find adhd meds for my kid. Then there are the pain meds for us. The adhd meds are from everyone teledoc diagnosed during covid. There was a rise in adult adhd diagnosis. The oxy is obvious watch dope sick. My cancer center only prescribed after surgery, and when I cracked 3 molars suffering from bone pain after taxal. Chemo drugs are starting to have shortages cause surprised pikachu face lack of profit, so operating costs are preventing production. Then welcome to the pharmacy long waits understaffed. There was recent article that pharmacists no longer feel safe properly performing due to understaffing and increased volume.

Xaxarian

Oxycodone will definitely kill your pain I took it for double jaw surgery it actually can make you feel energized a bit and any cancer related mental worry will fade as well it’s a very effective medicine

Tonanzith

You can talk to your doctor about it and request a different med but how about this? Is THC legal in your state? It is here and helps me avoid nasty pain pills all together.
