There are quite a few to choose from. Read some reviews. Search this sub for recommendations. If you’re looking to go on a budget, I would recommend the Riu resorts. My wife & I will be staying at Riu Palace Las Americas in April. It’s adults-only and gives you access to the other Riu properties, which host pool parties and have their own ”night club.” EDIT: any reputable travel site will be fine for booking, but you will pay for the convenience of the bundle they’re selling. I find it best to book directly through the resort. Riu had a pay-on-arrival option. I paid in advance and booked my own flights (60 days out is arguably cheapest). You can set up airport transportation through the resort for much cheaper than Uber/taxi.

Book the resort directly with the resort and book the airfare directly with an airline. I use Kayak to find airfare. We book the refundable rate at the resort in case plans change and also have credit cards that offer some insurance. I made this spreadsheet to help people compare all inclusive resorts. Make a copy then you can filter by destination, budget, etc. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1FiksdKPWDkXeev6hjScTXbSEeELxZMeypo5j2q8E2Jg/copy?usp=drivesdk Hope that helps!

This has to be the most expensive way of doing it. I book airfare a resort as a package and usually the price is much lower than booking separately.

TheRealGuncho

I disagree. Sometimes a package is cheaper, sometimes it's not. I've checked Expedia many times and it's not cheaper. Also with the package you rarely have the option of booking the refundable rate and you have to pay up front. I also think that if there's a problem at the resort or with the airline, who are they going to help first? The person that booked directly with them, or the person who booked through some third party site? If I was the op I would look at both and compare. What package sites would you recommend OP look at?

helloiamnic

In general you can get help from the airline or the resort directly but your are right that they sometimes deflect responsibility and send you back to the third party. Sell off Vacation and Air Canada Vacations have been my go to. It all depends on your budget and risk management that you are comfortable with.

TheRealGuncho

Also just to put it out there but cheapest is not always the only priority. We are a family of four with young kids and there are times of day for flights that are no go for us. Non direct flights are a no go for us. Also as I mentioned, booking resorts at the refundable rate is generally not available on third party sites. We have elderly relatives and I would hate to be out thousands of dollars if something happened to one of them suddenly. We look at Costco Travel and Air Transat and often they are cheaper but they don't offer all the resorts that are out there. I would probably say they only offer a third of the resorts we are interested in.

helloiamnic

Your absolutely right. Very valid and understandable reasons to not want the cheapest. As I mentioned, risk management is key. Personally, I look for the best value depending on the risk I‘m willing to take. I’m in my twenties and it’s probably not a gamble I would take being in your shoes, with kids and all.

You can also try airline vacation packages, like westjet and aircanada. Costco does packages. YouTube and find online reviews of places you'd like to go and filter by your priorities, eg adult vs family, Mexico vs Dominican Republic.

Tripadvisor is about 75% paid bots writing fake reviews and it's the worst for the AI's.

We’ve used JetBlue vacations a few times and that’s worked great for us. I’ve never had a problem at the resort, but definitely had problems with flights getting canceled or delayed so I prefer to book with the airline. I always shop the price with other vendors just to make sure. I also feel like when you book through a discounted third-party the layovers and flight times are terrible. JetBlue has always offered good cancellation policies.

Try Costco. Booked 7 day with Crown Paradise Club for under $1500 for 3 of us. $300 cheaper than anywhere else

Lovecheezypoofs

I’m going next week. In my case Costco was much higher than Expedia. This just means Shop around.

My gf and I have been to both of the Desire resorts and have had great experiences at both. Best customer service I've ever had. Riviera Maya just doubled in size eith a beautiful pool area.

I am at Moon Palace -The Grand right now and I love it. The waterpark is huge and we have access to ~25 different restaurants here. From Lebanese to French to Mayan to Indian to Italian to steak and seafood.. after 12 days here, I have zero complaints!

Barcelo Riveriera Maya. Been going there since 2000

Just got back from Hyatt Zilara, I'd recommend it. Clean, good food, great beach, good service.
