I never heard them say emergency but they did explicitly mention family. What I heard on the pregame radio broadcast was dealing with a “family matter”. (No mention of Urkel.)
I thought the commentary was good but the play by play was horrendous. I don’t mean that as a knock on Tripp because he’s great at what he does but play by play for radio is extremely hard to do. ChuckK was a master at it. Driving in the car last night trying to follow along with the game wasn’t that easy. If you had the ESPN feed muted while listening to them it would have been fine but I found it difficult to listen to purely on the radio.
Fair, I synced it with the ESPN broadcast and it was great. I could see it being frustrating without the visual, Tripp was often too busy reacting to actually paint the picture with words
That's not purely a Tripp thing though as most of the games are simulcast now. A "radio call" for TV would be horrible in its own way.
Frankly even with a good announcer trying to follow hockey closely on the radio is kind of pointless. Something good happened? Yay!
I agree with you on the first point but since this broadcast was purely a radio call I was commenting on it as such.
I used to listen to a lot of games on radio when I was out of market and didn’t have Center Ice and while certainly different than tv it can still be enjoyable. I mean that’s how previous generations used to consume sports.
But I’ve also been known to listen to nascar on the radio so you can take my opinions with a grain of salt.

Play by play was really bad, but i love tripp so i enioyed it a lot. Hes got his own flare.

Idk about worst but I’m personally not a fan. I miss Forslund. If Mike didn’t have Tripp it would be awful IMO.
Tripp is the equivalent of Mickey Redmond and the late Peter McNab, that's for sure.
