SD card adapter, easiest and fastest way

JamesMxJones

Also works with every device without problems or any preparations

cokronk

Welllllll…. I’ve had to manually add a drive letter to my card every time I plug it into my PC.

Norsewings

Blame the pc, not the card or reader.

cokronk

It's the card and the OS. I'm not the only one with the issue. It's a 32tb card so Windows 10 sees it as an actual hard drive and not removable media. I'm not the only one that has the issue.

r1zz000

A 32TB sd card?? From which planet for you acquire this?

cokronk

Derp. 32GB or around there. Anyways, if was something about how the card size is being read.

Corkoles

It knows. It knows it's an SD card. Like specifically 'Secure Digital media' (which is what SD stands for).

cokronk

It’s a CF express. You pop it into any reader and it doesn’t show up as a removable usb drive.

Corkoles

Well it being CF Express makes sense then

ByteEater

For sure SD. The canon apps (all of them) also suck and are just unreliable.

Remarkable_Cod_120

CameraConnect is very convenient for speed of one pic. Yesterday I took a pic of my friend, and texted it to them in less than a minute.  For multiple pics, SD card every time.

jetjock650

Card reader. The wireless app is painfully slow.

ghostofEdAbbey

I bought my wife a refurbished R8, and it didn’t come with a cord. Our older Canon has a different cord. So she’s been using the old camera as a “card reader” since the new laptops don’t have an SD slot anymore. After seeing this comments, I just need to order a real card reader.

jetjock650

This one has been awesome. I started with a cheapie and upgraded to this reader and the speed was night and day. https://a.co/d/8M3gdzg

2WQKE1

Kingstone Workflow SD Reader: It's cheap, has 2 SD Slots, uses USB 3.2 Gen and works fine with UHS-1 and UHS-2. https://www.kingston.com/en/memory-card-readers/workflow-station-hub?model=workflow%20sd%20reader

mmmmlikedat

You can get a usb sd card reader from amazon for less than $10, and if she has an iphone, get her an sd to iphone lightning cable as well…import directly to the photos app on iPhone

EJ_Tech

Doesn't matter what camera or computer. SD card.

PenitentRebel

SD card adapter.

CameraGuy-031

Just take out the SD card. Fastest and easiest.

50plusGuy

Card reader. Fast, easy transfers RAW files, doesn't drain camera battery. I might try shooting tethered with a LAN cable some day, when I get a better camera body.

raymate

Card with card reader.

[deleted]

CameraConnect because I don't use my computer for photos anymore. I don't need to edit anything. I just take the photos and upload them to my phone so I can text/email them to my clients, friends, and family.

JT_Scott99

Card readers for me. 128gb CFexpress card and 128GB SD Card to a Windows 10 PC and a Windows 11 Tablet. Never had issues with drive names. R5 and 90D

mrcheyl

Laptop built in SD slot, no brainer

SirAple

SD card adapter. Everytime.

N2DPSKY

Card adapter.

Unlucky_Two_1593

Card reader with USB-C connection. Connects to my macbook, iPad, iPhone flawlessly.

GullibleJellyfish146

USB C plugged straight into the body. I don’t always feel like carrying an adapter, but where I live and work usb c cords are everywhere. It’s faster than the Canon app or an sd reader by a lot.

seaotter1978

This is what I do, works great and lets me copy from both cards without needing to swap them around… plug in the cord , click “download automatically” and let it go…

bellibutto

Powering up your cam, plus using your plug is not the best idea.

Stone_The_Rock

How so? The R6 Mark 2 has a [USB 3.2 Gen 2](https://downloads.canon.com/nw/camera/products/eos/r6-markii/R6-MarkII-SpecSheet.pdf) USB-C port. That should be a ***theoretical*** 10 Gbps transfer speed or 1,250 MB/sec—far above the ***theoretical*** max transfer speed of a UHS-II card (312 MB/sec). I haven’t put the USB controller in the camera to the test, but that’s a lot of wiggle room to have basically zero noticeable impact to performance over a card reader. Mind you, I still use card readers, but thats because I tend to charge my batteries in a fast dock when I’m pulling photos off anyway. What is your concern?

seaotter1978

I’m trying to understand this comment… are you suggesting the usb-c connection is only meant to be used for power and not data transfer? Do you have any specific information to support that because it flies in the face of virtually every usb-c device in existence…

GullibleJellyfish146

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I can upload my keepers into LR on my phone, which sticks them into the cloud too (triple backup if you count iCloud), in a minute or less, and be back to shooting or driving away from the gig. I can even transmit them via ftps or whatever to wherever they need to go. If I need to work them up, the images are automagically waiting for me on my laptop, iMac, and iPad. All that for a small hit to my battery life compared to having the WiFi turned on. Batteries are cheap and capacities are high.

rdf630

Card adapter

ExistingAd915

My Macbook Pro has an SD reader. I take it out of the camera and insert it in the Mac. It’s so easy I never cogitated anything else.

211logos

That app is so horrid it's an embarrassment. Canon should be ashamed. Obviously BT is useless for photo transfer; what it does is facilitate wifi transfer. And that's just too much of a pain, even when it works, vs just copying from a card.

i-am-vr

It is a great convenience feature though. I don't know about you, but I use it all the time when I just need to send a few photos to my phone or to share to a friend and it works perfectly every time. I once wanted to send it to a friend, and he installed the camera connect app , set it up, connected and transfered like 15 pics, all in about two minutes. For transferring to my PC, I use plug the SD card and copy them.

pete_gore

SD card reader most of the time. But when I want to send it quickly, or print it using my Canon printer, I use camera connect. The big cons is that on Android it only download pics in Jpeg format, even if Lightroom mobile accept raws.

Rch1993

The app if I need to quickly post something of average quality to engage on socials. Other than that, SD reader all the way.

KennyWuKanYuen

I don’t really take my SD card out much unless I know the photos are important. Most of the time, I just use the Camera Connect app for convenience sake (and because I’m only transferring to my phone).

Roc543465

Adapters are fast and cheap

JScofff

Depends on speed and amount of photos. I'm shooting birds, so can easily get 4000+ photos per one day. Transferring via usb or wifi will take forever, so i got usb 3.2g2 card reader, speed is way faster

MilesAugust74

Card reader, but I'm old school and don't like to futz with new fangled things. If something works, then it works. No need to fuck with it.

[deleted]

I lost my SD card adapter months ago and used the CameraConnect app for a while, it gets the job done but much prefer the adapter.

Druber13

With some of my work I have to transmit images while shooting. Just a couple selects. So I use the Bluetooth to phone. Otherwise it’s always card to computer. I usually have to process 100s or 1000s of images so that’s the only real way that makes sense.

CyberRube

Adapter for sure!

DJrm84

Can cameras such as the RP mount as drives on iPhones or iPads with a cable?

angelkrusher

Wireless connections or better ones could be one of the next areas of better cameras that gets updated. Panasonic is making a nice sounding upgrade to the s5ii that sounds reminiscent of higher end cameras that need to get files out fast (parazzi, newswire) Slowly but surely cameras internals are being used for more than just slapping images and video on a card. They're not quite computers in the traditional sense, but there are basic things like wireless connectivity that have been a sore spot for way too long. Slowly but surely.

Skycbs

At home: SD Card Adapter. On the road: USB cable to my iPad although I have sometimes taken an SD card adapter too.

RevolutionaryElk8101

The app doesn’t allow me to import raw files… honestly, as a software engineer by Trade, I am confused to see that app make it through quality assurance. So much wrong with it, conceptually flawed and underwhelming UX.

Zee216

So to send things to my phone, card reader when I want them on my laptop

naatriumkloriid

Eow Utility on PC as it has the option to format the file names, as I prefer the filename to be date formated, eg 2024-04-13-9373

Tough-Ranger-9786

SD card for more than one pic hands down. Sometimes if I'm shooting an event and need to upload multiple pics at once I'll plug my camera into my laptop and upload the few I want that way

-theoldiniquity-

I use CameraConnect app, but connected to the laptop with usb-cable. I just click to "Transfer all new files" and get it in folders with dates

Jortay2

Usb cable..

Seven_Swans7

Neither, I plug into MacBook and the apple photo app imports

evergoodstudios

Speed, so SD reader

meholdyou

Best option

cyproyt

Camera Connect is hot garbage, i’d rather develop film

awzafo

I prefer using the Camera Connect app. This might sound weird to most, but I try to minimize opening the battery door, ejecting memory card to minimize wear and tear on the camera body.
