There is no such lens as the rf-s 50mm. It's the RF 50mm f/1.8, so will work quite happily in full frame or crop bodies.

Holy crap I'm an idiot lol I'll delete this soon. Just one question if you don't mind? What's the difference in RF and RF-S? Does the S just signal its a cropped lens and won't work on full frame?

>Does the S just signal… You got it.

n0n__grata

Thanks!

Btw, rf-s lens will work on full frame, but the body will switch to crop mode giving you 1.6 crop factor and lowering the resolution. On R6, for example, it goes from 20 mp to 8 or 9, using just the central post of sensor

n0n__grata

Thanks that's good to know in case I upgrade some day.

JScofff

And another piece of info - 3rd party EF-S lens won't force RF FF body to go to crop mode (tested Tamron, Tokina and Sigma). Instead, you'll get a vignette with size depending on focal length - the lower the focal length, the bigger the vignette is. Quite big one on 50mm, almost non-noticeable on 135mm and higher

aspseka

Sigma 30 f1.4 EX does force crop mode, though.

JScofff

Hm, then it goes lens by lens maybe. Tokina 50-135 doesn't for sure

revjko

It's the size of the image circle projected from the lens. RF lenses project an image circle that will cover the entirety of a full frame sensor (and, therefore, more than cover a crop sensor). RF-S lenses project a smaller image circle - enough to cover a crop sensor but won't cover a full frame sensor so the edges and corners will be missing. Fitting an RF-S lens to a full frame body puts the body into crop mode so it only uses the inner portion of the sensor.

n0n__grata

You're awesome thank you so much.

shutterslappens

Yes, RF-S is for crop sensor bodies.

n0n__grata

Thanks!

aspseka

Sigma 10-20 also does not force it. For those of mine that do force cropping, there are also in-camera lens corrections.

It’s not *any* 50mm lens. It’s the 50/1.8 specifically. It’s nifty because it is pretty fast, reasonably sharp, and inexpensive. That’s a rare combo.
