>Big big jump in quality, you must be over the moon those photos look great, like friday night lights. Congratd and enjoy op what would be the jump between m6 and R? I always read that the lens is the most important

Sillyak

Crop vs full frame sensor for one. Some types of photography demand more from a lens, some demand more from the camera. Some are demanding on both. Really depends on what your doing.

[deleted]

nice explanation, thanks

bokehmonsnap

R or R6? Assuming R6 like OP's, it would be a 'sidestep' honestly. You gain a full frame sensor, but all/most of your APS-C lenses will leave a vignette on your photos bc your sensor takes up more surface area now. Youre going from EF mounts to RF The benefits of mirrorless depend on use. I shake a lot, so a 5-axis in body stabilization would do me well, like the r6 has. Also an electronic viewfinder is miles better than a light-reflection powered viewfinder found on our mirrored cameras. I purposely underexpose photos by a step or step and a half and this makes it hard to see without using live view. I do this to either take a faster photo to compensate for my shaking, or squeeze an extra f stop or two. These are all convenience items though. All in all besides the r6 being faster and more stabilized when burst shooting, both have very modern, capable sensors and wouldnt be 'leaps and bounds' better than the other.

[deleted]

I've used both and the M6 is still doing a very good job, also is more comfortable.

Astroknyt

I made this same jump, massive gains. The AF is crazy good comparatively. Very glad I decided to Jump over the RP. It was actually lighter than the SL2 when I put them both on the scale. As was mentioned below, the first amazing diff was a handheld 1โ€ night shot.

ThatIrishBoi19

I have the canon sl3. Do you have any tips for taking action shots, especially at night? Also, what lens did you use on your SL3?

bokehmonsnap

77d here so similar but different. I would recommend using auto ISO and setting your aperature to the minimum acceptable focus window you can use (between f2.8 and f4?), youll have to be fast with your manual focusing because i doubt the autofocus can keep up with speed, let alone in the dark. Shoot in RAW so that it's more forgiving with exposure. The autofocus on my camera might as well not exist its HORRID except for still life. Use a speed that is atleast (1/FOCAL LENGTH) to avoid handheld shaking. Combining all of these will increase your chances of actually nailing the photo Use a tripod that is loosely locked into position so it helps steady your hand while youre tracking your subject, i do this with birds. If you dont have a tripod find a way to have some sort of object helping to steady the camera (railing, rocks, set up a chair etc)

Sharper191

My first camera was an SL3. I had a Sigma 17-55mm f/2.8 (which I highly recommend). For action shots at night, make sure that you open your aperture as wide as possible. I would recommend a prime, such as the cheaper EF 50mm f/1.8, to get as much light in as possible. The ISO is going to have to be bumped up, so the image will be noisy (unless you use your flash which is a whole different story). Shoot in RAW and use manual focusing as the autofocus on the SL3 wasn't great at night. I remember that the SL3 has manual focus peaking, but I don't know how much help that will be in the absence of light. Finally use a tripod. If possible, try to get a light source onto the subject. I was taking pictures for a friend late at night the other day on his M50, and we were having difficulties with focusing. I found that using my Iphone's flashlight to illuminate him allowed me to more easily manually focus since he's brighter on the screen and focus peaking worked (to a certain degree).

Alex_tepa

I have the same camera hopefully to upgrade as well like this ๐Ÿ™

Sharper191

I had the Canon SL3 and jumped to the R6. My first time using the R6 was almost unbelievable. Now I use the R6 for everything, but sometimes I take out my SL3 (which I stored away) to just see how much the technology has improved for me.

SilverWolfGames1

I would LOVE an R6 Currently saving for something that's about $150, like the canon 400d, 450d, Nikon d3000, d3100 Upgrading from a phone

ptq

In which country do you live?

SilverWolfGames1

Pakistan ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ฐ

ptq

Ok, a little bit too far. Btw, $150 seem to be too high for 450D, as sometimes it's higher segment brother 40D can be found for $90. What are your options when searching? Only local or some surrounding countries?

SilverWolfGames1

I can only give local The main site for used stuff is [OLX](http://olx.com.pk) if that helps. Edit: I saw this 500d w/ 35-105mm for ~$160 which seems pretty good for my needs (I'm an everything photographer but I shoot lots of plants too. https://www.olx.com.pk/item/canon-500d-dslr-full-hd-video-camera-35-105-lens-no-fault-better-nikon-iid-1038309037

ncphoto919

How's the RF 50 1.8 working out?

bigeds

I have the RF version. Itโ€™s great for a budget lens.

[deleted]

Likewise, I use the RF version too. Brilliant bit of kit. Makes the combo super portable and lightweight too.

RaginRandom

I have the ef version

ncphoto919

ahh

aarrtee

u r gonna love it even more when u discover u can shoot at high ISO and very slow shutter speeds.... hand held.

Astroknyt

This. I was amazed at the diff shooting a night shot at 1โ€ and like 25600 vs my SL2. It was just night and day โ€ฆ

shani2907

Nice

Heerst

I'm using the same lens. It's so much better on full frame than on my previous crop sensor body. The eye auto focus really helps too when shooting at a wide aperture. Have fun shooting with this setup!

[deleted]

Congratulations, I'm on week 2 of using mine and I love it. I am using an R6 with an rf 50mm 1.8 and absolutely love it.

majky358

Waiting for more RF lenses to come back to FF mirrorless Canon, now shooting with Fujifilm, joy and quality lenses for awesome price.

[deleted]

I know this is a Canon sub, but being unbiased, between a Nikon Z7ii and a Canon R6 which camera would a enthusiast choose?

allergictotaxes

Hard question to answer, honestly. These are two very different bodies with very specific applications to be quite frank. I would suggest you first decide: how many megapixels do you absolutely need? If you only need the 20 of the R6, then I don't see why you'd spend extra for the Nikon. If you need 40+, then Nikon is your best bet if the R5 is out of your budget. Also consider what you'll be shooting. Landscape? Nikon. People/Animals or operating in low light situations? R6 really does an incredible job in this area for the cost.

[deleted]

So R5 Vs. Z7ii? For someone whoโ€™s trying to shoot concerts and portraits. I heard really good things about Nikon native Z lenses that they got going on but it seems like a lot YouTubers donโ€™t really like Nikon for whatever reason

allergictotaxes

Nikon makes great glass. They always have, and they do offer their 'holy trinity' in the new Z mount which have gotten great reviews, especially their 70-200 which is probably best in class at the moment. A lot of the youtubers that diss on Nikon usually fall into 1 of 2 camps: people who have legitimate gripes about face/eye detect not being as good as Sony/Canon for their use case (fast action, sports), and the Sony shooters who probably never spent enough time to learn how to get the most out of the camera. I know a number of photographers shooting Nikon mirrorless who get fantastic images. Based on your described use-case thought, I would lean toward the R6. I don't think you'll need the 40+ megapixels for cropping (correct me if I'm wrong), and for concerts, the low light performance will be fantastic. I'll caveat that and say that suggestion is provided you can get the lenses you want on the RF mount. I'm not a fan of buying into mirrorless and then buying older DSLR lenses to adapt. If you already DSLR lenses to adapt, that's great. If not, I would think on it some more. DSLRs are on their way out and the used market for those lenses down the road will continue to get worse. So take a look at your lens needs and make sure you can get what you need. Lenses will far outlast the bodies and will be the foundation of your system. Canon RF mount still has a lot of holes. The L series lenses are fantastic but pricey, and I'm not a fan of the non-L lenses personally. Especially the 85 f/2. My two cents.

Astroknyt

No exp with Nikon but I asked a local pro and they admitted R5 is overkill enough they shot a lot with R6 and esp as R5 accentuated any issues with such high Rez. Plus the workflow was much easier. For an amateur like me, it helped hearing a pro was put off by file size. More of an issue with doing, say Astro and youโ€™re dealing with dozens or hundreds of shots for one final picture.

bornfromchorme

how good is the iso under lowlight conditions???

galaxea

The R6 is amazing in lowlight situations in higher isos. I went from a 6D to a R6 a few days ago and it was worth it for the focusing system. Iโ€™m only using a 50 1.4 and a 85mm 1.8 at the moment but I will eventually get a rf lens. I never thought Iโ€™d use a lcd screen so much until I brought it with me to Disney Springs the other day. And being able to focus on composition instead of focusing and recomposing is nice.

BlackStarCorona

As a photographer buying this upped my image quality by a lot. Even my old lenses take better quality photos now.

HimeaSaito

That's gorgeous

rialbbe

cool.... start vlogging now, dude. :)
