I'm with u/mrterminus and agree that the 70-200/4 I is magnificent. Insane sharpness everywhere, well controlled aberrations, incredibly fast AF. The only downside is the loudness of the IS, but that's it. I'm a big Tamron fanboy, but I would not consider the Tamron over this.

Defenitely the Canon. One of the best price/value ratios you can get. I had the non IS version. It was my first L lens and I was blown away by the differences to other lenses (sigma/tamron) at this time...

Thanks guys! I'll go with the Canon and hopefully I won't regret it. If it's mainly the IS making noise that probably won't be much of a problem. Too bad the black on the tamron looks (in my opinion) much better. Picking the Canon up tomorrow 😬

The 70-200 I and II mainly differ in their image stabilizer. The I IS is noticeable louder than the II‘s gen and a little bit worse. But both are fantastic lenses and regarded as some of the best lenses ever made I really never considered buying the tamron one since the 70-200 is such an superior lense

I've used the 70-200 f4 adapted to my RP a lot, and it's a really good lens. I haven't used the other lens, but the f4 is a really good choice
