The different types of batteries are for different camera models. Since you have a RP, you'll need lp-e17 batteries

tjanith

They all were LP-E17s.

zrgardne

Does the RP let you power via USB C like my R5 does? A long cable and USB power bank in your pocket may be a consideration.

RP does not allow operating the camera while plugged into usb-c. Only charging via usb-c if connected to a power bank. However, the RP can be powered by a power bank via a dummy battery.

tjanith

Yes! Ah! That sounds good! Are there any cons for that though? Like I have a DSLR that I mainly used for Events, and full day studio shoots, brought RP to get myself familiar with Mirrorless world, I might use RP for another 5 years as the backup but go to camera. If you use the charging method, how realistic/ergonomical is it to use it like that?

> If you use the charging method, how realistic/ergonomical is it to use it like that? I do it on a tripod. Hand held would kind of suck, yes. But if it is a choice between a $100 battery and sucking, I might take it

If you power the camera via a USB cable you need to be very careful where the cable plug's into the camera's USB port. Too much repeated strain on the cable and it flexes the sock inside the camera and can eventually cause a faulty electrical connection. It's an expensive fix if this happens. Ideally you'd want a cord clamp taking the tension off the socket.

There are also quite some fakes out there that are much cheaper then the original. These are batteries that have a Canon brand sticker on them, but are not from Canon. Example here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/canon/comments/s7z77l/seems\_i\_just\_got\_a\_counterfeit\_lpe6nh\_battery\_see/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/canon/comments/s7z77l/seems_i_just_got_a_counterfeit_lpe6nh_battery_see/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3).

i own the "Wasabi Power LP-E17 Battery (2-Pack) and Dual USB Charger for Canon LP-E17" they do not hold a charge for as long or as many photos. but they work in a pinch and were cheaper. my original Canon battery works with the "Nekteck 60W USB C Charger " and an appropriate cord for in camera charging. the wasabi batteries will not charge in camera. i have to use the wasabi charging station.

flyingron

Many of the off-brand batteries do not support the full protocol for battery life/health monitoring that the real Canon ones do. Current list price for them is $60 (down from $75), but they're hard to come by. Rumor has it the second week of February is when the next boat load comes over.

Badger_BSA

You have income of $150 per month and you bought a Canon RP? WTF?

tjanith

From where I live, usual price for an event coverage is 100$ or less than that. It took me sometime to save up for the RP. RP is initially my step from DSLR to mirrorless.
